  1. In the end Swifty got all his covers chromed. His bike ended up in his living room during the winter and got thoroughly cleaned every season. I think he liked taking things apart. Evan is now the proud owner of all that chrome, but likes his 88 more.
  2. Thanks. The only thing that hadn't come apart and get fixed\modified\redone was the engine itself. Buddy that bought it is still a very happy camper. Sometimes I kind of wish I had kept it, but at a round 1k$ per year for insurance, that didn't make any Dutch sense at all. I really did like that scoot though, right from the first time I set eyes on it. I now have a nice 88 sitting here. Maybe I could take it for a spin before Evan fixes the plastic, that way if I drop it he might not notice so much.
  3. The best things about Puc's hot dogs is that they are free,, and you know a Dutchman,, say free and he's all over it!!!!
  4. So does this say that you were mistaken and I was on the right track, or does it mean that the track I was on was going somewhere and you were following?
  5. I wouldn't say the Spyder is taller than the Royal star. Height in the RS didn't change with the conversion. Now road clearance might be different, only 4.5" on the Spyder, but I'm slowly working on that, Every scrape adds a bit more room for the next one. If I had know about the Endeavor I might not have gone with the Spyder. Looks like a real nice setup.
  6. If I remember correctly there is only one bolt to remove and that is the big one in the center. Put the puller on it and it should pop off. It's only the OEM ones that seem to have a real liking to stay put I think.
  7. Special tool generally indicates anything you have laying around that looks like it will do the job. Then take special interest in how it's done. If it doesn't work the first time, get a bigger hammer and then you'll not have to think about why it broke.
  8. Sorry guys, I really didn't think that I was going to cause an all out war here,,, now it seems to be NY vs Mich,,,, this could be interesting though. And Bob, I think this was before Ben days. Fact is we rode down by ourselves and back on our lonesome. Don't remember Wayne being there either,,,, buuuuttt, I could be wrong, it was early in VR days and we didn't know everybody.
  9. Now this has been bugging me for some time, what reflects more light? White or silver. History: Some years ago there was a meet at WowSkunks place in New York State. Two VentureRiders presented themselves there if I remember correctly, Bongobob and MarCarl and I think that Runninbare was there as well. Hey, there might have been more, but it's a long time ago, and I just can't remember. Anyways, this discussion centers around Bob and Carl. We both had 1st gens and both had modified headlight tunnels, and 'then the fight started'. Bob had painted his white and Carl had covered his with aluminum tape. Question was, who had the better light output, Bob or Carl. We never did come to an agreement, we just stayed friends instead. Problem: As I thought about this though, I thought that it wouldn't be fair to have Bob leave this world with an erroneous thought built into his mind. Can you imagine what could happen on the other with bad info? I would not want to have anything serious happen to my friend Bob, just because I didn't want to tweek his mind with a minor correction . On the other hand, if I went to the next life with a thought that wasn't entirely perfect, can you just think of the confusion, discombobulation, discord, and other misconceptions that might arise from such thoughts? So help us out here, please!!! Solution?: I did a little research, and so far have discovered that although silver will reflect less light than white, it actually has smoother surface and so defuses less light, and so it reflects more light beams in the desired direction. So that is a start, now I'm looking for input from the experts. And PLEASE!!! I want to stay friends with Bob, so let him be as right as you can.
  10. The covers and such are doable, but take time to accomplish. First remove all clearcoat with paint remover, then sand with 600 and better, then finally buff with a buffing wheel. I found that a small wheel on my highspeed hand drill clamped into my workmate worked the best, using black buffing compound. I then washed the part and finished it with Classic Cloth. After that it was a yearly cleaning with Classic Cloth to keep things looking good. Never put clear coat on it again. I did all engine covers, forks, floor boards and what ever else wanted to come off. Now your engine don't look so good either. Guess my advise would be to remove it, strip it entirely and then paint the color of choice. Polishing that would be almost impossible.
  11. It's about time somebody got out of the way so I can get a job back. I would like to get some things done but it seems I get less of that done now that I'm retired. The best to ya. Hope it all works out. I'm not minding it a bit!!!
  12. Thanks, a good spring refresher.
  13. Well didn't get here in time for the poll and wasn't aware that you was having ANOTHER birthday. But seeing as you have been around for this long, there must be a reason for you still being here, so wishing you blessings from the Master, and that you might enjoy many more days to come.
  14. CRAP!!! the world is passing me by. I have 2g on my phone and don't use it, and a further 4g on my Garmin and that is only partially used. I must be missing out on something!! Guess I'll just stay in my corner and be happy.
  15. Squirt a bit of carb cleaner into the front cylinders while you have it running. If things improve or get worse, you have a fuel problem, if things stay the same, look for an ignition issue.
  16. So we need to know if this is a new thing for you, or if it was this way when you got it. Sometimes it's a real bummer trying to find neutral, but 1st should always be available. If it's been this way since you go it, then if my memory serves me correctly, there is a chance that when the rebuild was done the shift shaft was not put back properly. The reason second gear goes south is a washer at the end of the gear train being too soft. If you take the middle gear cover off, you can actually see it and touch it, but you got to remove the transmission to repair it. If there is an extra washer in that location, and I think there are 2, then it will screw with the shifting. Don't ask me how I know. The second washer is a thin washer and can easily be missed on re-assembly. The other issue might be that the shift forks are bent a bit, again you need to get into the tranny to fix. If you can shift to 2nd and 3rd easily enough, my guess is that it is not the clutch. By the way, $12 is a stipend to access all the info and help you are getting. Join us, and be happy.
  17. Congrats you two, I thought that maybe at your age you might slow down a bit and we could catch up, darn, still 3 years behind Carry on, and His peace and love continue to surround you.
  18. Could be a screw letting loose on the stator.
  19. You have a room reserved! Guess you get to pay for the second night eh, it has all the taxes attached? See you all on the 9th.
  20. After all this, I guess I'll see what a Red Roof looks like.
  21. Hope it works out for you, but then I hope in a way that you don't get to use them much. Might I suggest that the controller is normally behind you?
  22. That's quite a haul Greg, and you ain't there yet. Hopefully you can get-r-done before long.
  23. I would not see any problem ad far as mechanics is concerned, but is your hitch good enough, how much paint do you expect to loose off the bike, how dirty will it get and where is the dirt going to hide are some things to consider.
  24. The ones I have work good.
  25. I wish I could lay out the day for you, but we are working/talking about changing it up a little somehow,,, and then again, maybe not. Whatever gets planned, we have an open house all day long, enjoy lunch and supper together, get here when the time is right, and leave when we're told the day is over, or when we've had enough of the host. Some folks come by for lunch, some stay all day, and some only seem to like supper. Coffee, tea and water are provided, we haven't seen any adult beverages and don't seem to miss them a bit. We have a donation jar set out so you can help with the costs if you so desire, but supper is usually split by the eaters. You get to park your scoot on the street, so the neighbours can oggle the nicest one. So far we have not had any stolen, run over or in any other way lost or damaged. We have a well supplied shop, and it's not uncommon to see it being used for one thing or another. If it rains, it rains, but it has never yet stopped us from having a get-together. We have a fairly large patio, 750sqft shop, trees and grass. Chairs are supplied by us and the neighbors. If we have meat to eat, it comes from the best Butcher shop in the county, even though I say so myself. You just might to get to meet somebody from Kingston or from Windsor, or maybe even Detroit, we even had somebody from Georgia show up a couple of years ago. You asked!
