  1. I 've got a few more pieces added to the bike plus some extra chrome trim. I think this is going to turn into an ongoing project.
  2. I think George was a little frazzled with the wiring on his bike to be too concerned about Bobbie's Mustang. Kudos to the KID for the wiring job, he knows his way around a pair of wire strippers! We had a good time, especially when all of the lights on Sleeperhawks bike worked properly. I can't believe I forgot about the Cherry Pie sitting on the counter. Dave P.S. Glad to have you back RiderDuke
  3. They don't install any easier on the Venture. I think the grill was designed for the older Royal Stars, from the mid-90's. Dave
  4. I think the reason these two filters are not recommended is because of their overall poor quality in materials. The couple of filters that are recommended are built better and with better stuff. Now having said that, if you are pretty religious about changing your oil (every3K to 4K), using a cheaper built filter should not be a problem. Dave
  5. David, you had to go and bring that up. I'll fess up and admit, I left the switch on and let the battery die. And yes, I had to get a push to get the damn thing to start. I'll lay off the first gen bashing, now that I have been put in my place! Dave
  6. I have to laugh every time I hear a 1st genner say the 1st gens are faster than a second gen. I really don't care to have the fastest , if I did, I would have bought a Hyabusa. I do enjoy going to the M&E's and not HAVE to drag out the tools to make repairs on some worn out part of my bike! I really admire our "Chrome Callenged" members and their 1st generation Ventures, it takes alot of courage and mechanical experience to try and keep those old dinosaurs on the road. On the serious side, I think old man winter is really working hard on all of us. I want to get out for a nice loooong ride, instead, I sit here and try to stir the proverbial pot. I hope ya'll don't think I'm being too mean spirited. I always love a good lighthearted debate. Dave
  7. It's really simple to tell a 1st gen from a 2nd gen. The first gens are the ones torn apart laying all over the driveway and the owner is on E-Bay hoping he can find the needed parts, while the second gens just keep going. Let's see how bad I get bashed over this!!! Dave Disclaimer: The above post is purely meant in jest, before you first genners take offense and demand I be banished from this great site for spouting blasphemy, please accept my apologies. I do not discriminate against first genners, I make fun of everybody.
  8. That was the best 30 or 40 laps of racing I have seen at Daytona in quite a while. Glad to see McMurray win the "Great American Race", good guy. But Juniors move from 10th to 2nd was incredible, he was driving like his daddy. Hope he has more of that in his system! I'm with you Beer on that Jeff Gordon thing, just can't seem to like the guy, too pretty I guess. But, he traded in one hottie for another. (I still think there was a lot more to his breakup with Brooke than will ever be told). I hope Daytona was just the start of better racing for this season. Dave
  9. :rotf: Ted, you left South Carolina too early!!!, We ain't seen that fluffy white stuff in a couple of years now. Of course it has been a little colder than normal, and with all of this rain, the wife and I are staring to think we need to build an ark. At least it isn't frozen. Good luck digging out of all that snow! Dave
  10. You might want to send Sleeperhawk a PM. He has a couple of Carb Tunes and is usually willing to help a brother out. He lives in Coumbia, Sc which is only about an hour and a half away. We could probably set up a small meet, eat, and maintenance day when the weather turns for the better. I'll be willing to jump in and get them things tuned up. I can give him a call if you don't feel comfortable asking him. Maybe if we can get Sleeperhawk to synch up your carbs, his wife, the Mechanic will bake a couple of pies! She bakes an awesome pie, whatever flavor it is. Let me know if I can help. Dave

    Roadstar

I have done some minor work on quite a few of them, 1600s and 1700s. They are very easy to work on, if you can do most of the service work on a Venture, the Roadie won't be any problem. They are nearly as reliable as the Ventures as well. You will find alot of similarities between the Roadies and the Ventures. Just remember when you first start riding it, it is a V-Twin, it won't rev very high like these V-Fours. They do create some vibrations as well, nothing terrible, just not as smooth as a V-Four. Hope you enjoy it! Dave
  12. I thought you guys would have a little laugh at this ad for a 2000 MM Venture. http://www.totalmotorcycle.com/photos/2000models/2000models-Yamaha-VentureMMLimitedEdition.htm The picture is fine, but scroll down to the specifications. I don't think the person editing this web page knew very much about the bike. Dave
  13. Could you attach a link to the website? I went to http://www.grasshopper.com, it is a website for wireless phones. Don't think they sell backrests. Dave
  14. When I bought my RSTD back in '05, I had Progressive also. They said the premium was double to what I had on my previous bike. I started laughing, ain't no freaking way I was paying that much. Long story short, I shopped around and found a great deal with the little Lizard guy. Maybe they need to change their ads, "So easy a dumb backwoods redneck can do it!" . Dave
  15. If you have an older Royal Star Tour Deluxe (pre '05) you can use the Kuryaken covers for the Road Star. Newer Tour Deluxe ('05 and up) has the cruise control mounted in the switch housings just like the '99 and up Venture, but the older Deluxe didn't. The switch housings for the Road Stars are identicle. Dave
  16. Yes, there is a 2010 model Venture. The only thing different from the original '99 is the color and I think the CD changer is standard. Yep, it's still got the cassette player too. Dave
  17. I'm running an MT90 (130/90) up front. Dave
  18. I am running a 170 - 80 on the rear. It's a Bridgestone Spitfire dual compound sport/touring tire. I'm on my second Spitfire rear and absolutely love it. The mileage wear is decent, they handle very well, and the price is a lot less than Avons or Metzlers. I think I paid $76 for my last one, plus shipping. I had to grind about 1/8 th inch off of the rear fender inner supports, it never did rub, I just wanted a little extra clearance for piece of mind. Dave
  19. I'm not wanting to be argumentative, but... Isn't the whole idea of buying anything to get what you want for the lowest price possible? That being said, an '06 with 0 miles or 10,000 miles, it doesn't matter. It's still an '06 with a book value of around $9,000. Now this seller (I assume it's a dealer) has owned this bike for 4 years paying insurance & taxes for flooring it, plus it's taking space that a more current model could be using. Pick, your friend should take all of this in account to make a fairly educated offer. The seller should be motivated to unload it. That's my 2 cents worth. Good luck to your buddy with the purchase. If he does get it, I guarantee he will enjoy it. Dave
