  1. Didn't notice any issues with heat from the pipes. If you have stock style pipes you can probably keep your platform height a little lower. Had to raise mine to miss the fishtail tips. I didn't use a cooler. It's just a Rubber Maid storage container that I had kicking around the shop. It had lockable latches so that was a bonus. It was pretty much water tight but when we did Top of the World Hwy. It got full of dust. Anything we put in there that we were concerned about getting wet, we put in a zip lock plastic bag.
  2. Well these will all be guesses on my part. Me (with riding gear) 230 wife " " " 140 saddle bags 50 trunk & luggage rack 50 receiver hitch rack 40 total 510 Not counting all of my safety chrome, GPS, XM radio, wife's purse etc. etc. Probably another 100#s so lets just round it off too 600#s or almost 200#s over Yamaha's limit. We didn't have any handling issues in over 5000 miles. Tires still look good and mileage didn't suffer either. I did bottom out the suspension a few times on some of the roads in Alaska and the Yukon. I think we have all seen a few bikes with the rider and passenger that would weigh in at well past the max too. IMHO they just put that number out there to cover their butts in case of a law suit.
  3. Yes, I would guess that, if not a little more.
  4. I weighed my receiver mounted luggage carrier after it was loaded and it came in at 40#s. I didn't notice any handling issues at this weight but when we tied a well loaded overnight bag to the top for a short distance I could tell right away it was there. I would suggest to keep the weight as close as possible to the back fender. The further it is away the more leverage on the receiver.
  5. Got it on my calender too. Went to Barrett Jackson in Scottsdale last year.
  6. Same story here Don. My oldest son was very good and even considered taking music at the university level. Four months into his first year of engineering he quit playing and hasn't played since. Same thing with number two son. Very disappointing for me. Especially after paying for the instruments and all those lessons. And driving them to practise in all kinds of weather. I love the horn but after six lessons when I was about twelve my parents decided it cost too much.
  7. I was in that area and there didn't seem to be a great road network. One main road with lots of traffic. Maybe some off road opportunities??
  8. I was there but now I'm here and there's no snow and I'm riding the bike here and there and everywhere.
  9. I had a private message requesting more info on how I made the luggage carrier so I've attached another pic showing the bottom side. I carried about 40# total gross weight in the carrier without any handling problems.
  10. Hi and welcome to the family. Here is a picture of what I did for more room for our trip to Alaska last summer. Best part was it cost less than $50. I had most of the stuff kicking around the garage.
  11. Be thankful Peggy. Where I come from the teachers and staff were still required to show up whether the buses were delayed or even if they didn't run at all. Some people will drive their kids to the baby sitter, I mean school, no matter what. I remember two times that Leslie put the car in the ditch trying to get to work. She made it both times but the car didn't.
  12. She was crying after the 3rd period.

  14. Hi Eddie, We're supposed to be in Kerrville Tx. for March 1. Sorry we'll miss you.
  15. Thanks. We are in Corbin Ky tonight so we'll be hitting Atlanta early afternoon tomorrow. Don't think we'll be stopping. Staying at Elko Ga. tomorrow night.
  16. We will be in Bushnell at http://www.theparadiseoaks.com/
  17. The shuttle is packed and the trailer is loaded. Now to get out of here before the next weather system arrives. Florida, here we come.
  18. There's also a large flock of wild turkeys (birds not hackers) that come by from time to time but I haven't got a picture yet.
  19. Here is a pic of the view from our dining room window this morning. I counted nine but there may have been more than that. They played out there, having a good old time running back and forth for a couple of hours.
  20. Hope you showed your good wife how much you appreciate all her hard work in hunting up those tips.
  21. We live next to a golf course. The T deck for the 17th hole is about 100 feet away from our dining room picture window. There is a huge old oak tree right there and I can't tell you how many times we have caught guys standing behind that tree so their buddies can't see them but facing directly toward our house and watering the tree. Mary likes to wait until they are about mid stream, so to speak, and then tap on the window. You would be surprised how fast the zipper comes up. (OUCH)
  22. Nice Peggy. I had a three track electric train just like that, way back when.
  23. Wow Peggy, you're a couple hundred mile SOUTH of us or more and you have way more snow then we do. But we don't have to go too far north to find a whole lot of it. We only have about 2" on the ground here but my son has about four feet up in London, only 100 miles NE of here. Hope you guys get it all cleaned up before I head south in a couple of weeks. A little rain to wash the salt off would be nice too.
  24. Don't tell anybody but there is another entrance....South of Detroit.
