  1. Got the oldest daughter loaded up to move off for medical school and the RSV for the ride home. We're supposed to guide them to adulthood and teach them to be an asset to society and turn them loose on the world. I'm proud of what she's accomplished and where she's headed, but dang it she's always been a daddy's girl. The other one only has two years of high school left and she plans to move off to be an engineer. Don't have a clue how to be an empty nester but it's around the corner. Awful proud of both of them but I'm just not ready to let em go. My parents went through it 7 times but we all still live within a 20 minute drive of where we grew up.
  2. Kawligaaa.........
  3. I'm with Don on this one, love old wood guns. Where I live a 200yd shot is not often an option. I like hunting the deep woods and my favorite rifle for that is my old Marlin 44 mag. I got it used 30 years ago, it's been bumped and scratched and generally abused as my first choice of shooters. With a safe full of nice guns it's always the first one I reach for. It's fed the family truckloads of deer over the years.
  4. Or how old was the gas brought to you on the side of the road?
  5. Prayers up and may only gremlin bells be tolling.
  6. Asking for tire recommendations is almost like opening the what kind of oil can of worms. :confused24: Some really like the Shinko 777, some the Dunlop Elite III, I am using the Michelin Commander IIs. I didn't like the Shinko wear, that being said I have some weird affliction in my right hand that seems to crank the throttle in the curves and take offs. That seems to shorten tire life. Haven't tried the Dunlops, but really like the mileage I seem to be getting on the Michelin. I've only got about 2k on it and don't see much wear at all yet. Welcome by the way. It'll be the best $12 you can spend on a Venture. If there's a problem on a Venture it's been discussed here and the fix found. :sign16:
  7. Lost the tip of one into the bone working on a fire truck. The good news it doesn't take long to be able to use it as long as you're careful. Take care of it and good luck on the healing.
  8. Why are y'all riding with my wife?:no-no-no:
  9. Congrats
  10. https://m.ebay.com/itm/yamaha-venture-drivers-back-rest-mounts-and-saddle-bags-saver/232799208849?hash=item3633ea0591:g:rT4AAOSwx5laou~d A link to some brackets. I think these are MKI grab bars and brackets. I'm looking on my phone though. Might look on a computer to see em big enough to tell.
  11. Not a great pic but all I've got. There are 3 diamond shaped holes it pins into for front-back adjustments.
  12. You need the brackets. They mount in place of the helmet locks and the end bolt of the passenger grab bar. The locks then mount on tabs on the bracket. Just pulled one from my parts bike that Luv my 40 is interested in. Irony is that rest is why I bought the parts bike but it doesn't fit the MKII.
  13. Ah I didn't realize the frame was threaded. Most good hardware stores here have a size/thread gauge if you take a bolt.
  14. If you're replacing it anyway the thread pitch shouldn't matter. Find the right shaft size and get a lock nut to fit. I'd go with a hardened bolt.
  15. I gave $4000 last year for same bike. Needed tires and battery with 31,000 miles and thought I got a good deal. Mostly stock, had a few extra lights and K&N filters. And you know blue is fastest right?
  16. TCI connections? Maybe check all safeties, tip, sidestand,clutch/gear, etc.
  17. Ignition switch? Wire pinched in triple tree? Loose connection? Loose fuse? Kickstand switch? I know Hannigan leaves kickstand in place, don't know about yours.
  18. Glad it didn't strand you on the MD trip.
  19. I've used a strip cut out of a 2 liter bottle before. Seemed to help some but my seals were shot.
  20. Oh the things I would've done with the phone number he texted from if it had been me. Puc's much nicer than I am.
  21. You can't fix stupid, not even with duct tape.
  22. Moral of the story: Ventures are to be ridden. Trailers are for when bikes are broken.
  23. I recently helped a friend replace a radiator and heater core on a 40k mile car. He was on the road when radiator started leaking and he used a fix in a bottle just to get home. Stopped both up within 300 miles. I don't know what brand he used but I will buy parts before I use any of them.
  24. Take the screw out of the bypass, the plug should pull out to replace the o ring. Be ready for the detent ball and spring to try to fly away. I wrap a rag around it as I pull it out to catch them. I personally shy away from any kind of stop leak in a bottle, it can stop up radiators. Some have had good luck and like them, me not so much.
  25. Congrats. I've got the same blue RSV. Hope you like it as much as we do.
