  1. I would start by filling carbs through the fuel line and opening the drain plugs. If you get fuel there then you know the floats are operating. If you have to tear em back down make sure to blow out every tiny passage with carb cleaner and air.
  2. Don't ya love it when you get the copy cats. I listed some new show equipment designs last year, within two weeks a guy from Texas not only took my design but cropped my pics down some to use on his website. I welcome competition but come on if you can't do your own designs I'd think you could at least take your own pics. :soapbox:
  3. Great looking scoot Chief. Still got her? Love the looks of the 1st n 3rd gens.
  4. This should go without saying but CHECK YOUR PRESSURES. I was getting ready to leave the firehouse this morning when my relief officer showed up on his HD bagger. I noticed his front tire had some flex in it and asked him about it. It's the first time he's had it out this year. We had a pencil gauge in the station that didn't move on the front tire and showed 10 on the rear. He said it rode fine on the way in. So just a reminder check your bikes regularly and keep em upright. I've picked up way too many riders over the years and had to zip a bag over a few, never fun, STAY SAFE. You 3rd genners stick a gauge on it sometimes too, I've had a TPMS lie to me before on a car.
  5. Dang. Now you went and found something on the 3rd gen to make me jealous. My cruise only goes to 80. Coulda used it this week coming out of Nashville I hooked up with the purtiest lil Mustang and we ran 85-90 for miles in the manual mode. They got the good looks and better cruise, please don't find a place to stick two more pistons or you'll cost me a bunch of $$$$$$$. Stay safe
  6. Problem here is they've taken out all the registers and made it self check. I worked in a grocery while in high school, if I wanted to run a register and bag groceries I'd still work there. I know I'm old and set in my ways but I expect customer service and am willing to pay for it. I just went to the auto parts store and bought filter and oil, I may have paid more but I got waited on and somebody got paid to do it. To me that's a win-win. Sorry I didn't mean to hijack your thread. :soapbox: I still do my banking in the lobby with a real teller and write checks to pay my bills. Talk about old school.
  7. Slynky you are exactly the type of buyer I was hoping to hear from. We know the V twin turned off a lot of potential buyers. I was wondering how many came in excited for it vs how many like the SV for the rest of th design. It's just a weird curiosity of mine. Now on my point of view for Don's high mileage question the Yam V4s are well known for going well past 200-250,000 miles so 100k wouldn't concern me at all on a bike that appears to be taken care of. On an air cooled engine I'd be a little more gun shy. Now where are the pics of that new machine? I do like the looks of em, the front reminds of a Camaro for some reason.
  8. Welcome to the nut house. I recommend you join up, its well worth the $12. Enjoy the new ride.
  9. You also have a signed contract that they pay the note. Seems to me they have breached the contract. I'd still demand money or bike, you're paying for it after all. Again good luck, enjoy the Yamaha.
  10. Hate to see this happening. If I made two payments I'd definitely be beating down their door to get the bike back. If you're paying for it take it. Glad it's not a huge financial impact, it could be huge to some. Good luck.
  11. I think we're going to head out Thursday and stop somewhere past Louisville, then ride in Friday. Anybody else running that way?
  12. Most of that is above my head but as far as the BT input I found a receiver on eBay that I mounted inside the fairing and tied into the 12v lighter plug circuit. It goes on and off with the key and no batteries to charge.
  13. I haven't seen anyone tell you not to like your ride. In contrast I've seen several congratulate new owners. My question was based on somebody else getting their panties in a wad over bike comparison. This thread was started about new hopes before the bike was built and is carried on to the present. Good day.
  14. I think Don pretty well nailed the feeling of the 1-2 gen riders. Yes a lot of ragging on each other goes on in good fun, mine faster, mines better, etc. I have both the 1st and 2nd gen bikes. I do wish the 07 had the power and fixed fairing of the 86, I also wish the 86 was as comfortable as the 07. Neither one is perfect but I have a blast on both. I don't hold Ill feelings toward Yam or the owners of the 3rds at all. I don't foresee me ever owning a 3rd gen, V-twins are everywhere and do nothing for me. I will still congratulate anyone who has one and likes it for finding what they wanted, they are great looking bikes no doubt. In my eye it's just another V-twin though as far as me buying one. I ride with HDs, Hondas, and Kawasakis too, I'm just as happy for them finding what they wanted. With that being said, how many of you 3rd genners would have still bought that same bike if it had 4 pistons and a radiator? I'm not asking as a joke but just wonder if Yam would've turned off many riders with it. And yes even though it's a totally new design, as long as it says Venture it'll be a 3rd gen to me, no offense intended. Oh and by the way both of mine still have cassette players. NANNER NANNER. That's one change I think everybody wanted.
  15. Needed some things from Nashville so I made the 240 mile round trip. Running anywhere from 80-90 most of the way and still got 37 mpg on the RSV. The thing I don't get is the cruise cutoff is 80 true speed, so if the system knows where 80 is why did they throw the speedometer off?
  16. Check your air filter to see if it's saturated with oil. Other than that and the oily mess it makes you're probably ok.
  17. Look in the 1st gen tech library at bottom of the forum page. There are a couple TCI articles. Once you get it keep in mind that these bikes will run like that if you have the air box open. They need that restriction to run. Welcome to the nut house.
  18. You nailed it. Look back to the 80s Mustangs, Chargers, and for goodness sake a 4 cylinder Camaro. They all resembled their ancestry somewhat and carried the badge but were nearly brand killers. The Venture faithful ride 4 cylinder water cooled peg draggers that will eat HDs for lunch and go for 250k miles or more without major rebuilds. I know it's marketing but I still can't wrap my head around changing that platform. I have a 32 year old bike that I can tour on or go tear up the twisties. Maybe it will pull in some Harley faithfuls but I believe the 1800 water cooled boosted power plant would've been the Venture boom we were looking for. Having said that I'm somewhat technology phobic, I envision lots of problems with so much tech on a bike being ridden in the rain. I hope in 30 years while I'm sitting in a corner of whatever nursing home my kids imprison me in eating jello and drooling on myself somebody proves me wrong with a 2018 Yam with 300k miles and going strong. But for now I'll stay with 4 pistons and 10,000 rpms.
  19. I've talked to Rick twice about doing my seats. Can't wait to send em after MD. Seems like a real nice guy.
  20. Please post a follow up on how she likes the pegs. My wife wants something to help with the seat pain, she mentioned somewhere else to rest her feet. I talked to Rick Butler last week about seat mods to help her too. He was too booked to get to it before MD so I'm going to send them when we get back.
  21. Doing 80 today on the interstate going to dr when a woman in the right lane decided to be in the left lane. Rear brake lockup, tire smoke, and one finger waving. Maybe the book is right. Just don't know how that Japanese book writer knew.
  22. Now jump on and bring it to MD.
