  1. My wife calls smoking an HD a sickness I have. I overheard two riders at a gas station talking about the "sharp color of blue wasted on my POS Yamaha" last week. I waited for them to leave so I could take em on the highway. Didn't take long. I laughed the next 50 miles. Glad I'm not alone.
  2. You didn't say what bike. Assuming 1st gen since 2nds don't have a factory tach. The tach fires off the #2 coil, start testing there. Also check to see if running on 2 or 3 cylinders. Mine dropped 2 with a bad tci. They run amazingly well on 3.
  3. We need to get together sometime. I put in about 225 today through W KY and ILL. Karbers Ridge and Garden of the Gods.
  4. No time to be bored today, I designed and fabbed up some brackets for a new trike company that will debut in Daytona next month. Tomorrow will be 50 degrees warmer than it was a few days ago so I'll be out on the Venture burning up some miles. Mid 60s in February :7_2_104[1]::banana:
  5. I believe kids need exposed to some of the jobs we had as teens. Most of them have no idea what a hard days work is. I grew up as a hod carrier on my dads job sites, 5 boys in my family and we all spent our summers on the job from age 12. I spent the months of August and Sept in the tobacco fields. Spend all day cutting, spiking, and hanging tobacco in 90 degree heat 90% humidity and you'll understand a days work. Most firefighters work a 2nd job on their days off as pay is far from great. Nearly all of us older guys are in some type of construction but these younger guys think they deserve high pay/low work jobs. I had one with a wife and kid at home complaining about money problems so I set him up with a friend to work on a block job. He made it to lunch and told me that he wasn't going to work that hard. I always thought a man did what he had to do to pay the bills. Now all the farmers and many construction companies are using immigrant labor because young America is too entitled.
  6. In light of the current weather I thought this might need bumped.
  7. We may have to drink our summer air but you can keep that winter stuff up there. Supposed to hit single digits here next few days but I put 100 miles on the RSV today. NANNER NANNER.
  8. I burned through thousands of rounds in my earlier years but don't shoot much anymore. At the rate I shoot now I should plenty of ammo for life. This is my version of fun with guns now. I hunt some for food but love to watch the kids on a hunt.
  9. That is very helpful. Thanks.
  10. Don't know if the internet ate em or not. Pics didn't show up. Thanks for the effort.
  11. From what I understand Larry no longer makes them so I plan to make some myself. I have a weakness when I design and build things, I overthink it and have to put in some extra movement or mechanism just for the fun of it. I'd like to see pics of Larry's rests and any others out there. I don't know which direction I'll go but have a few ideas.
  12. I'm thinking these will work on the grab rails to mount a hinged arm to the rest. https://www.amazon.com/MxEol-Bimini-Hinge-Mount-Stainless/dp/B07CGNJNM1/ref=mp_s_a_1_8?ie=UTF8&qid=1548209664&sr=8-8&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_QL65&keywords=bimini+clamp&dpPl=1&dpID=41glOYFWaNL&ref=plSrch
  13. Does anyone have some pics of passenger armrests? I'm looking to build a set to keep the wife happy. Maybe if she has a place to put her hands and grab onto when she gets jumpy my helmet won't get smacked as much. I've spent a couple hours searching old posts but most of the picture links are gone. I have a couple ideas but would like to see some other ideas. I pulled a set off my blonde MK1 parts bike before I sold it but none of that assembly will be used on the 07.
  14. Bob you've been in my thoughts a lot in the last few days. I'm a firm believer that one's attitude and tenacity have a huge influence in health. Keep yourself surrounded with family and friends keep up the fighting attitude. I saw your post recently about being with the 101st, they're down in my neck of the woods. I stopped to eat beside the post last month. Still praying.
  15. Pretty cool. Maybe if I ever have grandkids.
  16. A few weeks ago I put the bike UP on the lift, re-shimmed the valves to open UP the gaps, pulled the swingarm and greased UP the bearings, then I pulled the brass caps and richened UP the mix. Today I buttoned it UP and took it for a test ride. Now my spirits are UP because I got to ride in January. Now if it'll warm UP I'm ready to ride. Oh yeah I synched UP the carbs while I was at it. :biker:
  17. Sorry to hear that. Condolences.
  18. There are a couple of very good write ups in the read only library of using a proportioning valve to meter the fluid movement (Rick Butler mod). I'm just throwing a few more curves in the issue with a car tire and trailer. Finding one answer to the many riding options will never happen. The more educated I am on the issue may help make the best decision though. Two piston caliper, proportioning valve, less grip in the pads, or a mix of some or all these may be the best answer. The more people I hear from with experience along these lines helps my thinking a lot.
  19. I went the other way with wired helmets so I don't have to deal with dead batteries. What you're wanting is above my head.
  20. 05 is 2nd gen. You can install a Bluetooth receiver to the input beside the cassette. Depends what all you want Bluetooth. That aux input will let you listen to music. I have a 12 volt receiver inside the fairing that turns on with the key. Add a few more pieces and you can Bluetooth phone calls to your wired helmet.
  21. Yep y'all see my issue. Most of my local time is one up, I don't use much rear brake then. Long trips are usually two up and some of those will be towing. Having a good rear brake in all three of these times will be nearly impossible. Having a car tire I know helps with lockup with extra traction, I was hoping to hear from someone who has been down this road before. And yes the reflexes can get us in trouble quick, we got sideways on the slab due to a cage changing lanes beside us recently. I had to act like it was no big deal to keep the wife happy.
  22. I've been reading a lot of old posts about brake pads. I'm thinking HH fronts but seeing the organic s on rear to slow the lock ups as a god thing. NOW the big question since I have a Nexen tire ordered to try darksiding will the organic or the HH pair up better with the braking power of the tire? Lots of posts about tires. Lots of posts about brakes. Haven't found a post about brakes on the dark side. I'll be two up a lot with a trailer some so the braking may be fairly important sometimes. Anyone with experience on this?
  23. If these things will get me across the border there's no telling the terror and trouble I can cause Marcarl and all those Canadian members EH?
  24. 🤞🤞🤞hoping there are no elbows or bends in that old pipe.
  25. Mine was torn down longer than I planned and memory was a little fuzzy. I too took off carbs but I didn't have to take parts back off, didn't forget to hook up throttle cables before seating carbs, or have a small leak from not installing the water hose clamp. I also have several tracts of ocean front property for sale if anybody is interested. :bang head: That's my story and I'm sticking to it. On a good note it fired right up after reassembly.
