  1. Yep y'all see my issue. Most of my local time is one up, I don't use much rear brake then. Long trips are usually two up and some of those will be towing. Having a good rear brake in all three of these times will be nearly impossible. Having a car tire I know helps with lockup with extra traction, I was hoping to hear from someone who has been down this road before. And yes the reflexes can get us in trouble quick, we got sideways on the slab due to a cage changing lanes beside us recently. I had to act like it was no big deal to keep the wife happy.
  2. I've been reading a lot of old posts about brake pads. I'm thinking HH fronts but seeing the organic s on rear to slow the lock ups as a god thing. NOW the big question since I have a Nexen tire ordered to try darksiding will the organic or the HH pair up better with the braking power of the tire? Lots of posts about tires. Lots of posts about brakes. Haven't found a post about brakes on the dark side. I'll be two up a lot with a trailer some so the braking may be fairly important sometimes. Anyone with experience on this?
  3. If these things will get me across the border there's no telling the terror and trouble I can cause Marcarl and all those Canadian members EH?
  4. 🤞🤞🤞hoping there are no elbows or bends in that old pipe.
  5. Mine was torn down longer than I planned and memory was a little fuzzy. I too took off carbs but I didn't have to take parts back off, didn't forget to hook up throttle cables before seating carbs, or have a small leak from not installing the water hose clamp. I also have several tracts of ocean front property for sale if anybody is interested. :bang head: That's my story and I'm sticking to it. On a good note it fired right up after reassembly.
  6. That's the set I used. Good as new.
  7. Here's mine after 45000. Checked and replaced them during valve check. Luckily it hadn't left me on the side of the road.
  8. I just did mine on the 07 at 45000 miles. None were out of spec but several were just above minimum. Gotta thank Skydoc for the use of the shim kit and tool and Mega2500 for sending me two shims I needed to finish. Now all are near the max spec so should be good for many more miles.
  9. Glad to see this post. KY will start the new license in April, mine will expire then anyway and was trying to figure out if it will get us across the border without a passport. We are considering going to Niagara Falls when we leave Freebird's maintenance day. Our 25th anniversary is just before MD and I don't think she'll count that as the celebration trip. I got away with it last year but I think she expects more for 25 years. I thought she won the lottery when she got me but evidently I got to give a little more now and then.
  10. There's a 2018 red near me for 22k new. Best price I've seen next to Don's.
  11. https://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?939-Lowering-the-Front-End This is from the tech library assuming you have a 2nd gen.
  12. 60s and sunny here. It's killing me as my bike is down for maintenance and I tore a shoulder before getting it done. Bikes are all over the road. Enjoy your saddle time.
  13. I was in a HF store today and they had one, said it was delivered a few days ago. They didn't expect it as they had not seen one in a couple years and it's no longer listed on the website. Manager is thinking a load may have been found somewhere and they're selling them off at clearance. Check back each week when they get a truck in. The one they there had a hole in the box so he offered it at $180 and let me open it up to make sure all major parts were there. I didn't count bolts and nuts but did go through the parts list and it's there. I couldn't pass it up. I had been in contact with Dfitzbiz about the one he has, good deal for someone. We have so many miles between us mileage on my truck would've eaten me alive. I did check tire date-51/17 so one year old.
  14. Hate to hear that. Glad you are ok.
  15. The OPD valves are required and static testing with new date stamps every 12 years now. They really cracked down on it around here.
  16. The firefighter mentality in me says YIKES.
  17. Hard to tell on my phone, is that the tank valve? If so we can't even get those tanks filled around here anymore. They won't fill anything over 12 years old.
  18. I think I sent a PM. Phone is acting crazy.
  19. For the good news get ready for the sticker shock of new units. In the ever lasting search for higher efficiency and free energy heat exchangers have gotten paper thin, coils are aluminum and thin, the new ozone saving refrigerants run at ungodly headpressures, motors are computer controlled multi speed units fit for space travel. With $1000 motors, blown coils and lines, burned out exchangers, and fried circuit boards you can expect 10-12 years service from a unit that costs double to buy and a fortune to maintain. But hey you save $150 a year in energy. I want my old units back with cast exchangers and solid state controls. 30 years of service with cheap repairs, I'll gladly pay for the wasted energy. I don't need a 14 speed condensor motor anyway. Sure am glad the tree huggers can enjoy their $10 lattes while basking in the glow of saving the world with energy savings. Now go see how much energy is used to make new units to replace these pieces of *+=\\.|{}#. :soapbox::bang head:
  20. I did the commercial/industrial HVAC thing for 13 years before I started fighting fires. I'm not familiar with Tempstar but the units we were seeing 30 years ago were at the beginning of the energy conservation kick. The lighter weight heat exchangers didn't hold up well at all. The reason I say that is I would inspect the exchanger before spending any $$$ on it. If it has the older inducer instead of the negative pressure ones used today a bad exchanger can cause you to wake up dead. If I remember correctly the indoor fans on most of those older units operated on a heat button switch mounted near the exchanger. It sounds like you're on the right track on the pilot sensor to me too. 30 year old memories along with my CRS may be totally off :puzzled: 🤷*♂️🤷*♂️🤷*♂️ Yeah I know after proof reading this I'm not much help.
  21. Yeah, I commented on your sale post. That whole 1000 mile round trip discouraged me. My truck loves fuel:mo money::mo money: Not to mention it gets cold up there.
  22. I think I'm going to put a hitch on mine while it's torn down. My sister has a Hannigan trailer I'll take on a test run to see if I want one. If not maybe I'll fab up a small rack to put in the hitch for another small bag.
  23. Best price I've seen in a while if you need one. Good til end of January.
  24. Got it penciled in on our calendar. Planning to be there and to bring a few goodies for the raffle table.
