  1. I'd start by making sure the red cable is on the phillips and black on the flat. Or is that the red handle screwdriver is positive and black negative? Oh! The insanity...........is the smoke still in the wires. ....
  2. I wasn't clear, it's a Bluetooth receiver plugged in under the fairing to the 3.5. I didn't want to have to deal with downloading so I use Pandora. It'll work with iPod also without any other equipment. I have a ram mount on the bars so I control from there. It's just a way to bypass isimple and software issues. One of many options. I'm a techno-phobe so I stay away from iTunes.
  3. I made these after the 9 hr trip back from Don's took a toll on my wife. The arms are 1/4" 6061 aluminum with nylon swivel washers for smooth movement. Tension in adjustable. Pegs can be black or titanium color. All stainless hardware. You do have to drill one 1/4" hole in the floorboard mount bracket, takes longer to do that than install them. I have the same type bolt heads as on the side covers to match them. I go in for surgery Tuesday so it'll be a few weeks before I finish the ones I have cut out and can make more. I think I'll do some with and without the horn tab. If there's much interest I'll list them in the classifieds. For members only they'll run $125.
  4. I did similar to Rafterd using this one, it has the 3.5mm jack. I stream Pandora instead of downloading. You can jump it off the lighter plug so it turns on/off with the key.
  5. Mine are polished to a mirror finish. Trying to decide whether to clear coat or wax for protection.
  6. I was never around the nukes but have spent a ton of time in the two food plants, a chemical plant, and a Fisher Price plant before they shipped it off to Mexico. Some time in a few others but these were the main ones. After I got into the fire service I was still working part time mainly for the chemical company, it was all stainless too. They are the reason I got out of the business years ago, I saw too many things going on to get me killed. As far as the third testicle goes two always got me in enough trouble I might not have made it with a third.
  7. I used to do a LOT of metal work in a couple of food plants here. Everything was stainless from the ductwork to wall trim and tons of custom parts. To be honest I loved it then but I don't miss working with stainless. It's so much harder on tooling and skin. We were touring one of those plants recently with the fire dept and I stopped to look at a very complex piece of equipment. One of my firefighters asked if I could build it trying to be funny, the plant supervisor laughed at him and quickly informed him that not only did I build that one 20 years ago but I also built the piece of equipment needed to make the compound bends. Ended the smarta$$ comments then and there. Dang, ya got me thinking of days long gone, I'm gonna have to pull out the tig rig and go grab some stainless bar stock now.
  8. I'll check with powder coater to see if he does the powder coat chrome.
  9. These are polished aluminum. I can do stainless and also considering powder coat black arms with aluminum pegs. I don't have a chrome shop close. I haven't really thought what it'll cost to make them, I'll get back to you.
  10. I finally got my parts back from powder coat and installed I integrated a Wolo horn mount in the right side mount. I went ahead and punched out a few more sets while I was set up. The question is I plan to donate some to Freebird's MD raffle and for St Jude and I'm not sure if people would want the horn mount or is it better to cut it off before powder coating? I guess I should also ask if anybody wants them at all.
  11. Not only is it 1st gen, did you catch the 1300 engine badge?
  12. Got in 225 miles this week 1/2 on the slab. Handles great up to 80. Haven't tried more yet. Did find rear brakes will lock up with the ct when 4 deer jump out.
  13. Ok now I'm the one confused. I've never met Puc in person but I've seen some pictures............sane?
  14. Had to go up into Illinois today to retrieve some paperwork for the wife. On the way back I wheeled into a gas station to fill up and noticed a saddlebag hinge hanging off the side, both screws fell out. Fueled up and pulled away from the pumps to fix it. Just as I finished and was putting the tools up a pair of HDs pulled in next to me. Just finished in time. I don't want to know what I'd have heard about a Yamaha vibrating parts off. I did get around 225 good miles in with sun shining and nearly 60*.
  15. I have PM'd Big Tom, waiting to hear back
  16. If it started at 25 and dropped I'd start with checking the hand pump.
  17. Things are looking up!!! 60* tomorrow and Wednesday with sun. Dairy Queen opens Friday, yep we still have a walk up DQ that's open March 1st til Halloween. No chicken or burgers, just chili dogs and the original DQ ice cream recipe. Xtra large strawberry malt coming up!!!!!!
  18. I wouldn't advise bypassing the switches, you end up with a bike that will start in gear without the clutch pulled and front brakes not killing the cruise. I hate to admit it but I have an 86 with the clutch side bypassed, have to watch starting it. I'm not 100% sure but I think it's a multi contact switch and mixing those circuits may do bad things.
  19. Clutch side operates safety switch to start in gear and kills cruise. Brake side is brake lights and cruise. Sounds like new levers are for a bike without cruise to me.
  20. You need to re-read my post. I said SOMEWHAT sane. That's about as good as it gets. :confused07: Are there any members that can be called sane?
  21. Sun is on full report, first time in days. Heavy rain and storms yesterday, temps creeping toward 50 and winds starting to slow some. Starting to get twitches!!!
  22. We plan a big tour out west after we get the last youngun grown and out. She just turned 17. This year we're going north, plan is to make Don's for a couple of days and maybe follow Bongobob and Marcarl toward their homelands and take in Niagara. That'll be our anniversary trip of 25 years. Figure I owe her that much for 25 years since I took her to MD at 24. I'd hoped to make Vogel and/or Asheville but Doc says this shoulder thing will have me off work 5-6 months, that may put a kink in my travels. Hope to see you at Don's.
  23. I was looking thru the VR merchandise thread, all the posts are 2009-2010 or so. Is there anyone still doing shirts, jackets, etc? I would be interested and guessing some other newer members like me might also.
  24. I spent a year looking for that color bike with decent miles and price. I wanted it from the first time I saw one. If we ever go to a trike it will have the 99 red/silver paint scheme. Those are the best looking trikes on the road.
  25. Other than a few gadgets on the bars it looks pretty well like Yammy built it. Well a little dirtier in this pic.
