  1. Wow! that sure is a beautiful piece of wood! Funny I was looking at a used 1100 & also a couple of 870's at the weekend at a sale at our local range. The 1100 I quite liked the fit & feel & he was asking $525 obo for it. BUT the guy selling it talked me out of it, he is a dedicated trap shooter & said it wasn't really the best gun for trap. I will see him at the range though so may talk to him again about it. The Turkish one I mentioned, (Churhill by Akkar) that company used to (maybe still do) manufacture for Charles Daly who I gather is well respected in the US. They are also backed by one of the big importers in the UK. They make all parts themselves & don't contract out, so they have a good handle on quality control. We'll see.... like I said $1500 is a lot for a toy!
  2. Very nice! I'm currently looking for a nice O/U Trap shotgun. but they are all too much for my pocketbook! Would love something like a Browning CXT but at $2400.... I did see this at a local store last week & I'm tempted, but still a lot of $$ for a toy! Yes it is made in Turkey but they do get some extremely good press. http://www.italiansportinggoods.com/firearms/shotguns/over-and-under/churchill-206-sporting-g2-adj-comb.html add another 12% sales tax to that price too. You guys just have it way to good down there. LOL
  3. In that pic above, how about just a short (say 2" maybe 3"long) flat strip (aluminum or SS, drilled as necessary) that would drop the light mounting height to get it lower & away from the plastic above?
  4. Saw a similar recently, light went green a the guy in a truck took off regardless of the car that was completing a left turn in front of him. Nearly ran into the back of him. GREEN light means "GO IF SAFE TO DO SO! So many seen to see it as GO! I have right of way & if you are in my way I'll drive over you. Way too many distracted, I'm late, in a rush morons out there on the roads now. & yes I truly believe that many drivers really don't care if they injure someone, people make mistakes when driving but instead of raised eyebrows & a shke of the head we now seem to have an "I showed him/ her" mentality. & have you noticed how these bad drivers always turn aggressive if taken to task over their stupid actions?
  5. Agree totally, it's a very difficult bike to add things to. On my RSTD I did look at adding lights to a clamp around the front suspension tube or even using the mounting "lug" that holds the front fender to attach some sort of fabricated bracket. But it may not look that good. If you have the full fairing (ie Venture) even that may not be possible. Hope you can find a solution, keep us informed.
  6. Absolutely incredible things. I had a 24" gas powered one in the UK in the 1980's & used it to cut my paddock with it. They float on a cushion of air & work very well. Did a great job of cutting my grass for a number of years & great for sloping terrain. I thought they were quite easy to use, but they were never really intended for preparing "golf green" & "showpiece" lawns, though they could make quite a decent job of the average lawn, but the early ones couldn't pick up clippings (now they can) Some thieving ba$ tard stole mine out of my barn! https://www.flymo.com/uk/products/hover-mowers/
  7. Ya! But the original error was a human one. i.e. his old boss didn't renew his contract, so the computer system just did exactly what it was programmed to do under that circumstance. It worked flawlessly by all accounts. Shame though that no-one could intervene, to correct the error. But again the system was obviously programmed to prevent any "exterior interference' once the "ex-employee" process had been set in motion.
  8. You won't get Rotella T6 for $20 a gal in Canada, here it will cost you around $40-$47 for 5 liters dependent upon your location. I'm in LM BC & I pay $47 unless it's on sale. Then they may drop it to $40.
  9. Well, I never re-jetted mine & the bike has run just fine for the past two plus years!
  10. http://www.sherv.net/flag-emoticons.html I've often wondred why there wasn't one about the size of below. There are a few here, maybe where yours came from anyway, (but there are a few bigger US flags to choose from).
  11. Ooops! My bad! Reading the posts I think more than just me thought it was a recent acquisition.
  12. Congratulations! It's Beautiful! Hope it gives you (& your wife) many years of fun & enjoyment.
  13. Doesn't that just pi$$ you off when you get a real bargain & the Guvmint screw you for your purchase price PLUS some fictitious add on ? Anyway sounds as thought the bike is running well, now get out & enjoy it... it'll be or or even all too soon.
  14. Yes, that's the "story" that ICBC like to put out & so many believe it! Last year when applying for their annual increase, ICBC was asked by the Utilities Commission (the body which approves any increases) to quantify their losses due to fraudulent claims. At the time ICBC was running a huge TV commercial campaign telling the public how much fraud was costing them. However, the truth of the matter is that ICBC when put on the spot, had to tell the Utilities Commission that: They were not able to provide any figures as their accounting systems do not, & can not, differentiate between fraudulent & genuine claims! I'm not saying there aren't fraudulent claims (I'm sure there are) but much of their losses are due to mismanagement, huge bonuses paid to executives & more importantly the fact that the BC Government has for years pulled millions of $$$ out of ICBC's profits that then went into Prov. Gov't "General Revenue". Since 2010 (when the the Prov. Gov't changed the law to allow them to siphon money from ICBC) they have taken some $1.2 BILLION from ICBC's profits! I may be wrong but I believe ICBC is the only for-profit public insurer in the country.
  15. Congratulations! Beautiful looking bike, hope it serves you well. See, there are decent honest people out there & genuine bargains do exist & are not always a scam, really pleased for you! ENJOY!
  16. I'm not looking to burst anyone's bubble here, & this is only an opinion, (& you know what they say about those) but that is not an totally original bike, (ie as it came out of the factory) It's a very nice looking bike & the price was good but: Those scrapes on the muffler, engine guards etc did not come from a standing drop, That bike has been in a slide (or those parts may have been taken from another bike that was in a slide ) it has been repainted in places, the leg guards are not the same colorway as the rest of the bike (they would be two tone red/ grey), I don't know if that's a 1999 colorway or not but I bow to the superior knowledge of others (especially Don) on here. Having said that if it runs OK & rides well & you don't mind the cosmetics, who the hell cares? Enjoy it if you decide it's a keeper!
  17. The minimum (standard) basic coverage we are required to have (here in BC) is $200,000. (probably varies by Province) BUT insurance agents push people to get $1 million minimum & really talk up the need to have $2 million & now they are even pushing for $3M or even $5M. We even have to sign to say that we were offered higher liability coverage but turned it down. You are correct that that payment would go to the 3rd party (ie the guy you hit) The argument for higher coverage being necessary is that if a claim against you involves (say) a young wage earner they could in theory be awarded expected wages for life, mortgage payments, on top of pain, suffering, property damage etc etc (Last year the premium to increase from the basic $200k liability to $2M was $166 (after my $160 discount)
  18. Congrats on the barter Don! Hope it's a good deal for you. You guys have it so good down there with that sort of thing. Way to many hoops to jump through up here for gun owners. Having said that I did have a great day out on Sunday with a few friends despite the weather not co-operating. And before anyone says anything, yes, they were all proved safe & unloaded at that point!
  19. Are the bikes from this company mostly insurance repairs or write offs. I only ask because I noticed an "adjuster log in" also some of the bikes for sale appear to be missing parts , (eg front wheel fenders). Also the bike pictured above has a red/ grey paint job but the leg guards are a different colour. Never seen that on any Yamaha RSTD or Venture. The leg guards are usually same colours as the main bike. Still a beautiful bike though & one helluva deal! Congratulations, hope it serves you well.
  20. Sorry can't help. Here in BC we have the dreaded ICBC (Insurance Corp. of BC) effectively a Gov't department! (I know it's not, but it may as well be) Inefficient, expensive, uncaring & a monopoly! We CAN opt to take our "optional coverage" (collision & comprehensive) to a third party insurer, which most of us do, but our Basic 3rd party insurance MUST be through ICBC. We have been informed that ICBC's insurance premiums are increasing FOUR times this year (that, to compensate for the $1.3 BILLION Loss these clowns made last year) What private business do you know that can make that sort of loss & stay in business? Last year my BASIC 3rd party injury insurance (with $2 million liability) on my RSTD cost me $1046 & that is after a 43% discount, (for age & driving experience) otherwise it would have been $1861.00!!!!!!!!!!!!!! For a vehicle that gets used once or twice a week that is extortion to my way of thinking. On top of my basic ICBC insurance I pay another $400 for collision & comprehensive from a private insurer. This year due to the increases I have not yet insured either of my bikes. We have been told that ICBC's costs have increased by 35-40% so, I expect the cost for basic to be around $1450! & that is after my "good driver" discounts. (Most of my friends are paying $125-$140 per month for basic coverage). Talk about getting screwed! We are being priced off the road!
  21. I did realise that... my comment was tongue in cheek & meant as a bit of a leg pull. Maybe I'll just shut up now!
  22. Personally, I ask one question, does the oil lubricate my bike the way the manufacturer intended? Other than that I really don't care what it's called or what "group" it's in. At the end of the day it's ALL down to personal preference! You like this, I like that, he likes something else. It's all semantics. I think these oil threads often get sidetracked by minutiae, manufacturers' claims, brand loyalty & personal opinions. You can compare till the cows come home you are never going to find one "outright winner". We're not going to strip our bikes to component parts after every oil change to measure wear & tear to see what difference the latest oil made. (at least I'm not). Are you happy? Is your bike happy? End of story!
  23. Came across this site whilst doing a little research for my nephew who may be immigrating to the US soon. Seems quite informative (& up to date) on the laws & rules of various States, I was looking specifically at S.Carolina & the information provided seemed very comprehensive. https://www.gunstocarry.com/gun-laws-state/ the above link gives an overview for each State, then you can click on the "main article" to get very detailed info for each State. Including the specific law references! Excellent website for information! Enjoy! Here's the "full" entry for Michigan https://www.gunstocarry.com/gun-laws-state/michigan-gun-laws/
  24. Sure wouldn't be riding any bikes of mine after giving me lip. Bad enough to take down your bike but then to tell YOU you're too cautious. Sounds like a rather ungracious & ungrateful "friend". Hope your bike isn't too beaten up!
