  1. They sure have, but Florence skirted more south so Raleigh was spared the worst unlike other areas. He arrived in NC from the UK (where we hardly ever see those extremes) two days before Florence. Now Michael, I think he's starting to think "what the hell...."
  2. My nephew in Raleigh NC, said that Michael was worse than Florence (around where he is). He had to drive 90 min west for a business meeting, took him four hours to get home. Said he couldn't believe the number of vehicles that had spun off the highway. Power lines & trees down, he shadowed a big rig & was doing 35 max (when he was actually moving). Thoughts to all, hope that you were saved any major damage or losses, but maybe that's hoping for too much Stay Safe!
  3. Not a Ford but I have a Chevy Silverado 4.3L V6 with Manual Transmission. It's a 2000 with 126,000km (78,000 miles) It has cruise control. Haven't used the Cruise in a long while but yes it did work last time I did. If I remember correctly (& I may not be) it dropped out if I a) changed gear b) braked A number of friends thought it was most unusual to have cruise on a manual shift truck! But it seemed to work. Being from the Uk I didn't have any experience of vehicles with auto transmission or cruise so had no idea about it when I bought the truck.

    New Trailer

To pull it? or to ride inside it? LOL
  5. There was another thread on here a while back with the same video & a number of folks chimed in with what they thought happened. First guy to come off seems to cut that corner too tight, clips that "hole" (missing piece of pavement) which sets him off balance & away he goes. Second guy looks back & the bike goes where he's looking. Once his front wheel gets over on that steep shoulder he can't hold it & he goes over too. With both bikes, once on that uneven & very steep shoulder, it's almost impossible to keep a big bike upright. Added: you actually hear the first guy say twice "I hit that hole in the road" if you look carefully, at 1min19/ 20sec just above the sport bike mirror there is a distinct dark patch (hole?) maybe that threw him off balance & again once over on that bad road edge there'd be no going back.
  6. Of course the REAL answer is to NOT lose your keys, wallet, shirt, mind or anything else
  7. So sorry to hear that! There are scumbags all over the place. Wouldn't it be nice if we could give these lowlifes what they truly deserve! You are correct they just don't care, no respect for anyone or anything! & the law (Ha! Ha!) says the poor soles were so disadvantaged growing up & that's why they need to take your stuff. I really makes me mad!
  8. $19,000!!!!!!!!!!! That's around $25-$26k here, That's unbelievable, like I said I priced it up here & they are $36k plus! Next time I go car shopping I'm taking you with me! Well dealt Puc!
  9. & it flies by even faster as you get older. You'll soon be wondering how the hell did I find time to work! Enjoy you retirement!
  10. Those 'lectric veee-hicles are expensive! :mo money:but maybe when you factor in running costs, maybe not that bad! Up here one of those would cost $38,600 plus taxes of 12%. Not sure what Gov't incentives are on offer at the moment.
  11. You sure do seem to be enjoying yourselves & seeing some sights. Good on you both.... livin' life to the full! :banana:Absolutely wonderful. Pleased your "new" micro camper is working well for you, you might want to share your exploits with Hyundai, who knows you may get a sponsorship deal! LOL Keep up the good work!
  12. Nice videos Puc thanks for sharing! It's absolutely wonderful to see our wildlife, we sat in our kitchen just a few nights ago watching a huge black bear feeding on our apple tree. (& he's most welcome!) That Moose did look to be a fair distance away so all the looky-loos probably didn't scare it. But please remember that we can scare animals with our mere presence. I saw a story recently where a Moose, exhausted from it's swim across a lake was then scared back into the water by a mob of tourists taking photos.... It drowned! Please be aware when viewing wildlife & do responsibly & from a distance. Thank You
  13. Yes it's similar here, foreigners can drive while on vacation but only for a short time, & if you live here I believe you have to apply for a Provincial licence within 6 months of arrival. (it may even be less). They even made me do the full test, theory & road test then wanted to include me in the "new driver" graduated program that has many restrictions. Fortunately I was able to talk to someone who exercised a bit of common sense! Just to clarify though my nephew isn't applying for citizenship he is a US citizen (born there) but has lived in the UK since he was about 3 years old. Thank guys for your assistance, please keep the suggestions coming. He's going to talk with some independent agents tomorrow. I'll let you know what happens.
  14. Thanks for your reply! Yes he can prove his UK experience, but his new US (NC) licence is only a week old, I've passed on your comment thanks again!
  15. My nephew recently moved from the UK to Raleigh NC. Yes just in time to meet Florence! He's 30+ has driven in the UK for around 13+ years, has driven in the US on extended vacations & he's undertaken additional training, he knows how to drive. He wanted to buy a Golf R, but looks like insurance is going to kill the deal. He's looked at dozens of insurance companies but the cheapest deal he can find is $450 a month!!! I'm assuming the silly cost is due to him not having a US driving history & the type of car. Apart from downgrading the vehicle, can anyone offer any help & or advice?? Thanks in advance.
  16. Me too! Absolutely ages! They were never right anyway
  17. & NOW all you have to do is actually RIDE the dang thing!
  18. My nephew was very lucky, he says it's wet in Raleigh today (Sat 15th) but things are mostly OK. Shops are even open. I have to say I'm extremely impressed by the weather service on abc 11. Superb detail in their information. Let's remember & thank the reporters & crews that were out in the storm to bring updates. Especially let's give thanks to the front line responders for all their diligence & hard work helping people & the Linesmen who are doing their best to restore power under extremely difficult circumstances. We hope & pray that those affected will be able to get their lives back on track very soon. Stay safe everyone!
  19. That's hilarious! LOL'd at your comment re clothing! Pleased you are enjoying the cruise anyway!
  20. Take care, I really hope there will be few problems for everyone. But maybe that's expecting too much. Be safe!
  21. My nephew (post #4 ) is off. Hope he doesn't leave it too late, he's found a place to stay west of the Smokies, near Chattanooga, so he's leaving early Thursday morning. Personally I wanted him t leave Wednesday. I think he'd have stayed & toughed it out if he'd been there a bit longer; but after only a few days, not really knowing the area, the stores (of which many were already empty) or many people I persuaded him to get the heck out of Dodge.
  22. So today I replaced the valve core. I'll let you know if it stops the slow leak.
  23. My nephew just moved to Raleigh (from the UK) he arrived yesterday 9th! Starts his new job today! Talk about being thrown in at the deep end. I just hope his new associates & colleagues will keep "the new guy" on the right track as it's not something he's used to at all in the UK. I messaged him a few hours ago to ask how his first day at work went & also told him to listen to the warnings & not to underestimate what could be coming! I haven't had a reply yet. Just watched this, seems they are as prepared as they can be: https://www.newsobserver.com/news/local/article218119200.html I must admit to being quite concerned. Be safe everyone! Just heard from him, all OK at the moment but the worst is set fro Thurs/ Fri (nothing has happened yet). He went to the store to get provisions but it was stripped bare he said!
  24. I believe it can be done & has been many times BUT... the tire has to be of the right type (smooth on the inside) the wheel has to be the right type etc etc. Friction & flexing between the tire & tube are what causes problems (apparently) Note: So it's may not be as simple as just putting a tube in & the problem is solved. You could be creating more problems. I'm certainly no expert! That's the way I understand it anyway. Of course I have been known to be wrong.... Yep! It did happen.... once! LOL
  25. Thanks for that! I had something very similar but without the screw on fitting, worked well but the gauge blew after a year or so. I find it a real PITA getting to the front tire valve around the disc rotors. Not much room at all to get i there. Should have got an angled valve fitted.
