  1. Thought some of you might enjoy this, it's a GOVERNMENT funded motorcycle video advocating riding a motorcycle in NSW Australia. There's novel huh? Can't imagine it happening here though, 'cause as we all know bike riders are all mean, nasty & shouldn't be on the road!
  2. You guys are getting more like Canada every day! Here all handguns are limited to 10 rounds max (except for 22LR) If the standard mag is more than 10 rounds it has to be pinned at 10! Today I saw one of the most ill informed anti's spouting to the media. He was part of a nationwide demonstration against "assault weapons" (which cannot legally be purchased in Canada anyway). He stated "We need to change the laws that allow people to carry these things around!" Thing is, we already have such a law.... any restricted firearm (which includes all handguns & many (restricted) long guns that "non-shooters" would consider to be "assault weapons" can only be transported when unloaded, in a locked case & fitted with a trigger lock. So we already have the law this guy wants, but he was so ignorant he didn't know that. Oh! BTW he was a doctor who one hopes is an intelligent person. Sometimes I just despair at the ignorance out there BUT these seem to be the people that get listened to. Oh for an NRA equivalent up here! All our advocacy groups do is argue among themselves as to which one is best. None seem willing to take on Gov't head on.
  3. 1st Glad you are OK. Stiff & sore will eventually disappear. Can definitely see the headlight cluster shape in that hood! But I don't understand... you were stopped in traffic? How come his front hit your front & you are both pointing in the same direction?
  4. Not seen that guy before but I'm going to look out for his videos. Thanks Puc!
  5. Always the same... the idiots spoil it for the law abiding majority. In situations like that a water cannon would be a pretty good tool to have. Agree totally with Puc, inanimate objects don't kill. It's when idiots use them that cause problems. Mob "anything" needs to be stopped & those involved punished & not just with a slap on the wrist. I get soooooo sick & fed up of hearing about 17 year olds committing crimes then they can't be punished (or even identified) "because they are minors" & "didn't know what they were doing". Ya! Right! FFS!!!!!!!! Don't get me going!
  6. Don't have that particular make/ model but check out the Sig-Sauer 1911-22 or the GSG 1911-22 (identical firearms, both made by GSG (German Sporting Guns) in Germany) The one you mentioned may even be made by GSG too! The Sig & GSG 1911-22'ss are full size, take most Regular 1911 accessories & are very similar in weight & feel to the "proper" 1911. GSG did a really good job of replicating the look & feel of a 1911 but in 22. I've read varying reports on the "conversions" so would be wary & the conversions probably costs what one of those dedicated 22's would cost. Lots of you tubes on both pistols out there. Very reliable too but you do have to keep em clean. I got a Tandemcross accurizing kit that I have yet to fit. (Metal one piece guide rod (stock is plastic & can break) tapered muzzle cone, different spring etc) Fun to shoot & cheap ammo. btw Some may poo poo them as not being real guns but..... who cares if you're having a blast.
  7. Friend of mine has one. He didn't like the "insecurity" of stopping as he got older, (on a conventional bike) he is also a little vertically challenged. He really likes it but to me it looks like a peculiar riding position, but I guess more akin to a conventional feet under your hips (not forward as with cruisers). He really likes his, but do sit on one & try one out as they're not for everybody. They do look & feel very "big" though & they're not exactly cheap! Try one see what you think.
  8. My wife's old dentist had great reviews, we even gave him one. BUT what most people won't know is if he was doing a good job, or merely covering up problems that would surface later, as they have done in my wife's case.
  9. Hey Puc! to try to help with your decision, we were talking recently about my wife's options with our new dentist. He showed us some partials for where she's had extractions, but said a lot of people can't get on with them. They also (so he said) get food stuck around them & can be a bit of a nuisance. He recommended implants but of course that's more expensive. Whatever you choose, hope it works for you. Good luck!
  10. But how does one KNOW who the good dentists are. You hear a lot of horror stories. My wife is having a lot of problems right now, due to a dentist who hasn't been as diligent over the past 25 years as we thought he was. She's had to have two extractions & two root canals since late December with more work to come. Root canals were just over $1000 each, extractions were $900 each. We've spent over $4000 & of course our extended health insurance ($5000/ year) covered only a very small part of the first extraction the rest was down to us! But here in as everyone knows..... we get FREE healthcare! Yeah! Right!
  11. I think there is enough evidence that helmets DO save lives but it should be left to the individual to decide. But might peer pressure persuade someone who wants to wear a helmet not to do so? ('cause he/she would be seen as the softy?) Introduced here last year. Police can now stop you anywhere & demand a breathe sample. They do NOT need any reason! They can come to your home, state that a report has been received about your driving & can demand a breath sample! They can do this up to TWO hours AFTER you have been driving! They can also enter a pub, cafe etc & demand breath samples from people who have been driving (even though they may plan to take a taxi home). Refusal to supply a breath sample will, we are told result in a criminal prosecution & a criminal record! I do not condone drinking & driving but these draconian measures are seen as being quite acceptable by the snowflakes. Don't even get me started on how we have to transport &/or use firearms for legal purposes; of course the gangs & criminals who cause all the problems & use firearms illegally obey all these ridiculous rules too! (NOT!) In Canada it's getting that we ARE guilty until we prove we are not! But that doesn't of course apply to REAL criminals!
  12. Don't understand it. It should never snow in Victoria with all the hot air coming out of a certain building!
  13. We had cherry blossoms on our two trees last week too.... You guys seem to have it worse than us this year. We were on SSI last week (didn't go on the bike though LOL) visiting friends & then on to Nanaimo & Gabriola viewing a house (glad we weren't going this week!)& there was a couple of inches. But it's just gone nuts since then. Our friends on SSI were without power from 22nd to 28th Dec. We had to go out today as my wife had a medical appointment. People just don't seem to be able to drive in this weather. Wrong tires & their reaction seems to be "foot to the floor" if wheels start to spin. Couple of pics taken around Mission earlier. We've had between 6" & 10" but it's varied a lot dependant on location. It's also that light powdery snow that blows around a lot, but easier to clear than the wet stuff we usually get. Hwy 7, Lougheed driving east Mission- Junct. 7th & Grand You gotta laugh! Schools closed, snow days (offices closed) all over the place, public transit not running or ridiculous queues, God knows what'll happen if we ever get a REAL &/or prolonged winter! This is CANADA after all!
  14. I hear you! Try living up here where anyone who wants to enjoy anything more than a BB is viewed by the majority of the populace as some kind of redneck, fascist, racist, xenophobic, bigot! (But I'm OK with that! LOL) On the news the other night some kid had been messing with his BB & nearly did the old "put your eye out with that trick" He was fine, just a small mark, it was close to his eye. a lot of fuss about nothing. How did the media report it? Young boy injured while playing with an assault style BB gun! Say What?????? Thay just love it when they can add that "assault" tag makes it sound so much worse than it may be.
  15. Looks Good! I had a very similar cover on my 2000 Silverado Step Side (short bed). Not sure if it's aftermarket or not. It sounds more like your buddy's cover. It has an aluminum frame that clamps to the bed rails & 3 curved spars that go from side to side. The cover has a definite curve when fitted. It could be "rolled up" from the rear & tied at the front of the bed, behind the cab with a couple of velcro straps if not needed. The side rails stay in place but the cross spars are easily removed. It was quite well made but I found that as it aged it became more & more difficult to pull the cover tight enough to "snap" the concealed flanges into the grooves on the support rails. It's really hard on the fingers even when it's warm but almost impossible if it's cold. I could guarantee that when the cover was on, I'd need to pick up something that meant the cover needed to be removed! Sod's Law I guess. I eventually gave up on it. PS My tailgate would just brush under the rear cross rail which had foam on the bottom, made a decent seal but not stormproof.
  16. Forgot about the Steel works! Did part of my apprenticeship training there. Remember being on a catwalk waaaaay above the soaking pits & rolling mills changing out thermocouples. Errant steel rod that had missed the takeup spools wrapped around the roof beams. It would snake up there when red hot hit the beams etc wrap around & then cool there! Boy was it hot up there. & who remembers some of the pranks the old guys used to try to pull on us young fellas? Go to the stores & ask for a long stand. After asking & waiting 1/2 hour or so the storeman would ask "Got your long stand yet?" It could go on for hours till the poor apprentice realised! The other one was go to the stores & ask for a can of tartan paint. I was pretty savvy, so I would either ignore the orders or just go & kill an hour or two in the canteen with a cuppa & bacon sandwich! That sort of thing now would be seen as "bullying" & cruel & not be allowed. Young people now appear to need telling how valued, loved & wonderful they are, & expect to be rewarded for mediocre work. I was just relaying some of this thread to my wife who said, ya! before college, daytime I worked cataloging an art collection nights I worked in an automobile chrome plating plant for a number of months. Said she used to get lots of small cuts on her hands & again lots of "healthy" (not) fumes she also did numerous waiting table & cleaning jobs so it's not just us guys who did what was needed!
  17. They wouldn't believe it! Forgot to mention in my offering above, I started work at 17 & was made redundant three times before I made 21. (no fault of mine btw, the companies just closed down for commercial reasons)
  18. Ya a lot of those old industrial plants have a lot to answer for. I worked all my working life in the chemical/ petro chem & nuclear industries. Goodness knows some of the hazardous fumes & chemicals that were ingested back then. All sorts of fumes Amines (a horrible cat pee smell that would blanket the whole town) Acetone, Ammonia, Toluene, Benzene... distillates of all kinds... if it ends in "ene" I've probably breathed it in at some point! & some of the dusts were even worse... One plant I worked on produced Chromium Dioxide. Everything was covered in green dust. If exposed for long enough this stuff ate away the lining & septum in ones nose! & We won't mention working at the nuclear disposal site in Cumbria where you couldn't even see the stuff that could kill you! Getting suited up, entering & exiting the facility via multiple RA monitors & showers. Another plant produced a very fine white powder Titanium Dioxide (an inert brilliant white "filler" ) used in everything from Paint to chewing gum. There were occasionally accidental releases of Titanium Tetrachloride a gas that when it came into contact with moisture solidified almost immediately to a cinder (sponge) toffee consistency. If you breathed it in you were dead as it solidified in your mouth throat & lungs. A few workers were killed by that stuff. The cloud would drift around until it either dispersed in the wind or was hosed with water. Ah! the "Good Old Days!"
  19. Here's a link that some of you steam buffs may be interested in. I saw the Sir Nigel Gresley, Mallard & The Flying Scotsman in Steam at York Station many years ago. It was the last time all three ran together. A speed record of 126 mph seems pretty tame nowadays! Times move on! https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2354692/Mallard-surviving-sister-locomotives-come-celebrate-75th-anniversary-speed-record.html
  20. Glad I was able to repay some of the laughs you've given us Puc! When I was a kid I used to sit on the back wall of our street house yard & watch the steam trains go by. We lived four or five houses up from the main Darlington - Stockton railway line (First public railway 1825) in the UK. It had expanded by then of course but unfortunately in the '50's already steam trains were starting to disappear.
  21. I was going to say it's the pwer plant for Yamaha's next gen Venture!
  22. Well you could well be correct on that! Most 223 only firearms I've seen are indeed bolt actions. Whereas most if not all 556's are semi-autos. But the AR is 223. The Mossberg MVP Varmint I was looking at is marked both 556 & 223 & that was a bolt action with magazine. As you say it can be if you stick to what's marked on the barrel you won't go too far wrong LOL.

  24. I've read a fair bit on the subject but I'm no expert, the consensus appears to be that 556 & 223 are NOT the same. HOWEVER that said (I don't want to get long winded) if a firearm is marked 556 & 223 there'is no problem using either. IF it's marked 223, then 556 ammo should NOT be used IF marked 556 it is generally widely accepted that 223 can also be used. As I understand it, it's all to do with the pressures generated & the angle of the cartridge shoulder. I know, I know there will be many folks who will say they have shot both calibers from all sorts of rifles, I'm just stating the conclusions I've come to, to make sure I & those around me are safe. Like I said I'm no expert so take this for what it's worth! LOL
  25. Ya! Like that, but to be honest that does look a bit "photoshopped" LOL Good effort though & better than I could do
