Hey Clive! I was going to try some "tire goop" to see if that worked BUT a number of folks said don't as it corrodes the inside of the alloy wheel. I must admit it's a pain to have to keep checking the pressure every few days. I know we should do that every time we go out (but who does)? My Kawaski Vulcan has spoked wheels & tires with inner tubes, never been a problem! I took the old valve out earlier but didn't have a replacement so put it back in & pumped the tire up again, see how that goes but I will get a new valve core.
-
Hope so to! I'm going to try that too.

I have a very similar problem on my RSTD. Loses 5-6 psi over a few days. Left for a longer time (like weeks) it will fall to around 10-12psi. I too suspected the tire bead but I did the soapy water test & can't find any leaks. Valve seems ok (always do the spit test) after adding air. I did a really good tire inspection & again a soapy water test.... nothing! I may try new valve core, never thought of that! It's very frustrating. Like you I just check the pressure every few days & top up when necessary (nearly always) but that's a PITA especially if we go away anywhere for a few days. Which we haven't this year. Hope you find the problem soon. Guess the answer is to take the wheel off & get it to a shop to check & refit the tire etc.

Good comeback! Good luck with the sale & with the new bike (but I'm still disappointed!)

Say What??????? You mean you're NOT going to send it to me for me to take care of for you. You're going to take $$$ instead. Gotta Say Don I'm a little disappointed! LOL

I understood that there was a mounting ring that comes with the kit, the (flat) ring is used the other part is surplus. I bought one of these kits some time ago but never got around to fitting it (on the "to do" list!) I didn't think it involved any drilling? At the time I bought mine there were a number of threads about how to fit it all, one was particularly good with photos. I'll see if I can find it again & add it here. Found this from one of my old posts hope the links help also do a search for the posts by Alsbar (He actually installed one of those kits I think) Hey Eagle, here's one thread link http://www.venturerider.org/forum/sh...ghting-(again) Alsbar has done the work & has a good thread, there are other threads that I'll add here when I find 'em here's another http://www.venturerider.org/forum/sh...ght-conversion here are the LED's that I was thinking about using http://rover.ebay.com/roverimp/1/711-53200-19255-0/1?pub=5574636522&toolid=10001&campid=5335830059&mpt=[CACHEBUSTER]http://www.ebay.com/itm/7-LED-Chrome...son&rmvSB=true & here's another thread with other suggestions: http://www.venturerider.org/forum/sh...ional-lighting & this one http://www.venturerider.org/forum/sh...ght-conversion Hope all that helps

Hey welcome back! Always nice to see someone make good after having health problems. Good luck & happy riding to you & your wife! Take it easy & stick to quiet roads for a while. It's like riding a bike... you don't forget.
-
Your wife sounds a bit like mine! I often smile when I hear of those poor guys who have to "sneak" toys & such into the house or be devious with what they are doing. I guess we are both pretty lucky to have found the ladies we have!
-
But I thought you said a while back that you didn't get time to ride the "old" bike? Now you got two, tell you what send the old one to me & I'll look after it for you! LOL :crackup:No really I would look after it!

Wish more folks lived their lives using "Cowboy Logic" I think the world would be a far better place! -

Take care both of you (or should that be all three of you).... or maybe four.... Ah! what the heck take care!!!!!!!!

Not looking to hijack the OP's thread (maybe it might even help him) but just wondering... Is there a way to bypass the ignition switch as far as the lighting system goes? (eg could a relay be installed that runs the lighting via the switch & therefore puts less current through the switch) I understand it's a pretty common problem & something that really Yamaha designers really should have known better or perhaps even published a fix for what appears to be bad design. Maybe someone here has already done the mod?

That's great news! Glad they are all OK & just having fun by the sound of it! Thanks for letting us know Jeff.

Yep! saw it straight away. It does look like a shadowy figure but is nothing more than the darker bush behind the bike. Typical photo composition "error" you know, like those photos of folks with trees growing out of their heads & such! As long as it didn't ride off on your bike your OK. LOL

Reports do say that it isn't as bad as last year, there is less land being burned this year, Less than 50 "Fires of Note" (way fewer than last year) with only one on Vancouver Island, but there are many more smaller & new fires. Try living on the Fraser Valley for smoke! LOL I agree it is still bad but I think sadly this is going to become an Annual occurrence. Thing that amuses me there is a Province Wide total outside fire ban, but the natives, (our "Guardians of the Environment") who are protesting the Kinder Morgan oil pipeline at their hastily built shanty town/ tent city, (Camp Cloud) have a "sacred fire" burning FFS. & no-one has the cahones to make them put it out!

I have to smile at some of your "complaints" about the cost of your insurance. I just haven't bothered insuring either of my bikes this year in large part due to insurance costs. I know I've published my costs on here previously, so here to make you guys sigh with relief, are the rates I would be paying here in BC. Please bear in mind these were LAST year's figures there was a roughly 15% increase at the beginning of this year. Just to clarify, I have a clean driving record & get the maximum discounts allowable for "being a good driver" (that's the way the Insurance Co word it!) So the amounts below are AFTER my maximum discounts (43%) 2006 Kawasaki 900cc Vulcan: Liability only $990 (up to $2 million) don't forget to add 15% for this year's figure 2009 RSTD 1300cc - Liability only $1046 (up to $2 million) again, don't forget to add 15% for this year's figure Please Note: I cannot shop around, we have only ONE insurer here in BC & they are useless. Liability insurance must to be purchased from our Provincial insurer, we have NO alternative so they can charge what they like. Good drivers are not really rewarded, & we have been advised that all drivers can expect minimum 10% increases in 2019 & again in 2020! In addition to the above I have separate private insurance on both bikes for collision & comprehensive that adds another $$434 (for both bikes) So... very sorry, but don't expect me to cry :cry:at the amounts you guys pay! LOL Forgot to add that even with those rates our insurer is set to lose $1.3 Billion this year! Just been reading the thread again agree totally with Leroy. I too would like to know why it is the vehicle that has to be insured. Four vehicles four insurance policies! Any claim is made against the driver not the vehicle. Why can't insurers insure the driver? Why insurance "per vehicle". Also, when a person has multiple bikes why can't they insure say, the most expensive one, issue one plate & that plate can then be transferred to the other bike(s) after all most people can only ride one bike at a time & the other(s) remain in the garage.

Holy Crap! That almost looks like a new bike! As for importing, I know my local border crossing (Sumas, Wa) freight/ mail receiver "Ship Happens" used to offer a service where they looked after all the forms etc for you. You got the vehicle delivered to them, it had to be there a couple of days while they applied for the necessary paperwork, cost wasn't silly but that service seems to have disappeared from their website. Maybe there are similar services offered by US/ AB border towns. I don't think it's a particularly onerous procedure, here's the official Transport Canada info: http://www.tc.gc.ca/eng/motorvehiclesafety/safevehicles-importation-usa-index-445.htm http://www.tc.gc.ca/motorvehiclesafety/safevehicles/importation/usa/vafus/list2/Section8_0.htm hope it helps. I tried previously to look into bringing a "salvage title" bike from US to Canada but no-one could give me any useful information, not Gov't, Transprt Canada or useless ICBC (insurance corp). So I just gave up after the big runaround! Not the same but my RSTD was an Alberta bike. I was told I needed to get a mechanical inspection done, local stealership quoted me $150. I spoke to the mechanic & he said all they do really is check, lights, brakes, numbers (& not much else) I went to get temp insurance so I could ride it to the stealership. My insurance agent said because the bike was stock, it didn't need an inspection, all I had to do was to take it to her, she checked the VIN # & then registered it as a BC bike. Saved me $150. Of course as soon as I insured it I then had to pay the GST & PST on the price I'd paid. What a con! The Gov't collect taxes every time that bike is bought! -

That's a very nice looking bike. And it was HOW MUCH???? Maybe you should go buy a lottery ticket! The bike transport is just like the RoRo slides used for cars but on a smaller scale. Very innovative! I see you live in AB, bought the bike in Phoenix, how do you go on with importing to Canada? What hoops do you have to jump through? -
One of the things I was taught in my m/c course was, except in an emergency, do not use the kill switch to turn the engine off. Get into the habit of using the ignition key, every time, that way your will never come back to a bike with lights left on & a flat battery. Turning off using the key & removing it when you do so also means you will never leave your key in the bike to help a would be thief.

Of course you could always pay the "membership" that way you get to stay around, post & ask questions. But perhaps you don't consider it worthwhile to stay.

Ha! Ha! I wonder why? LOL (My Dad & I often had "words" about my hair!) Ah yes Smith's (bouncy pointer) gauges.... As far as fuel gauges go though my 1500 Silverado takes some beating! Apparently a brass wiper runs along a carbon track inside the gas tank. The brass wiper wears & the fuel gauge reads all over the place. It's a common fault I'm told. I got fed up not knowing how much fuel I had so I had the repair done, of course that also involved replacing the fuel pump too!

Yes we did have a few "idiosyncrasies" (so did our vehicles! LOL) do you recall Lucas Electrics in the British cars? They were a law unto themselves, but as you say a ton of laughs to work on (looking back that is!) maybe not so much at the time! A friend & I used to think nothing of stripping the engine out of his beat up old mini on a weekday night, after work, fixing, tuning & whatever else it needed, then he was racing it at the local track at the weekend. Loved the little Bug Eye. I always wanted an MGB but never made it My first vehicle was a Lambretta Li 150 scooter, I'm thinking circa 1962, rode that thing for maybe 3 years, to school, then work but of course I needed a car so I could take the girls out! LOL btw If I've not said it before, (& even if I have) Thank You for your service! PS Love the 70's hair & the 'tache
