  1. Yes we did have a few "idiosyncrasies" (so did our vehicles! LOL) do you recall Lucas Electrics in the British cars? They were a law unto themselves, but as you say a ton of laughs to work on (looking back that is!) maybe not so much at the time! A friend & I used to think nothing of stripping the engine out of his beat up old mini on a weekday night, after work, fixing, tuning & whatever else it needed, then he was racing it at the local track at the weekend. Loved the little Bug Eye. I always wanted an MGB but never made it My first vehicle was a Lambretta Li 150 scooter, I'm thinking circa 1962, rode that thing for maybe 3 years, to school, then work but of course I needed a car so I could take the girls out! LOL btw If I've not said it before, (& even if I have) Thank You for your service! PS Love the 70's hair & the 'tache
  2. :sign yeah that: I see 'em too. Bet that Red one cost lotsa $$$$

  4. Beats messing with a trailer I guess!
  5. Ya can't take it with you :mo money: I love spending other people's money. LOL Beautiful car & I'm jealous, hope it works for you!
  6. Ha! The difference in cultures. Being from the UK our cars were way different (& mostly much smaller) than the US vehicles. I must admit to really liking some of older US cars that you guys had. But as some of you have indicated trying to buy a decent one now is extremely difficult, not to mention expensive. I'd probably have to sell my house. I do enjoy looking though at some of the local shows in the summer. My first car (which I loved at the time) was a used Ford Anglia 105E. Not sure I'd want another one though. Had to laugh at Don's comment "it was only 250hp".... my 997cc Anglia was 39hp (according to Google) My wife's first car (she's Canadian) around 1973, was a used, white, Fiat 850 Spyder (she can't remember what year) which she loved, (she tells me she named it Theodore!) she rode into the dealership on her bicycle. The sales staff were highly amused!
  7. There could be reasons why his insurance quote is so high. Age, Driving record, accidents etc. It sure sounds like a LOT even for Canada! Alberta usually has much lower premiums than here in BC. Crazy, crazy rules up here! According to our "esteemed" leader we are supposed to be a nation of gender equality! Guess the insurance company didn't get that memo. Don't know why women are traditionally thought to be safer drivers anyway, I've as seen as many lousy women drivers as I have men. I had to laugh at the pastor's comment about going to the Social Security office & demanding his benefits 'cause he "feels" like he's sixty five!
  8. That's why I said we are lucky to have the Cabelas locally. Where are you now? I thought you were in Surrey? I know you got the RV so maybe you're on the move. I wouldn't cry without a Rona though. LOL.
  9. Frustrating! Bear in mind this refers to shooting supplies, firearms etc & Gov't rules & regs are partly to blame. Maybe I should have taken up instead. LOL We have a Bass Pro store but it is a one & a half hour drive away (if traffic is good). We are lucky to have a Cabela's store only 20 min drive away. But here's the rub. Bass Pro & Cabela's recently merged, (Jan 2018) they plan to continue as two separate storefronts. Cabela's leaning more towards shooting & hunting with Bass Pro leaning more towards fishing & camping etc. (that's what we were told anyway) but there will be a fair amount of crossover. Bass Pro's website only shows US products & US pricing (fair enough) & they try to direct Canadian customers to Cabelas (who do not carry the same range of goods) & who's prices are invariably more than the same item at Bass Pro. (Example: An archery release I bought at Cabela's for Cd$140, same item at BP Regular Cd$125 & now on sale (latest flyer) for Cd$99!!!) So, I see something on Bass Pro's website & I have no way of getting it (unless I'm lucky & Cabela's keep the same stock) but mostly they don't &/ or (as above) it's more expensive! Today I got an e-mail from Bass Pro & it's titled "Learn what the Bass Pro site can do for you!" It's almost like they are saying look on our website & see what we have, & you guys north of the border can't have ANY of it! I contacted Bass Pro & they tell me they are "working" on a Canadian website with Canadian content & Cd$ pricing, but when it will be launched is anyone's guess. Meanwhile we have to look at what you guys can get & your prices & merely dream! Meanwhile we have to actually go to the "local" store to see what they have in stock & to see their Cd$ pricing. Plus it's also :scorched:too freakin' HOT, supposed to be 35-38deg C today (100 deg f) it's supposed to be cold up here! LOL
  10. Sincerely hope all is well with the old Pucster & not a recurrence of any illness. Feel the love Bro! :bighug:See, all these folks who care about ya! You must be doing something right!
  11. I'm sure lots of people think "Their Oil is Best" ask 100 people & you'll likely get 75 answers as to what oil is "best". It's far too wide a subject & way to subjective to come out with a "best" oil. Every manufacturer makes superlative claims about their oil. There is no "best" oil. Whatever you use is "best" for you, that's why you use it!
  12. I first heard about Rotella on a Kawasaki owners website & then later, on this website after I got my RSTD. I & many others have been using Rotella (personally I use T6 synthetic) for years & have never had any problems with "sludge". Rotell is also JASO certified for use in wet sump motorcycle engines. As someone said earlier I suspect your "mechanic" is full of "sludge", but... maybe he's right & thousands of users & the Japanese motor manufacturing industry are wrong
  13. What about drilling a single mounting hole in the lower part of the wind deflector? Attach a nice angle bracket to the deflector then mount the light on that bracket. That way the lights are higher up & shouldn't come into contact with anything if you bottom the front suspension.
  14. Don, that story brought a tear to my eye! Thank you for being honest & decent I sincerely hope you will be repaid for your kindness. Respect!

    Marijuana

Have never smoked (or any other way imbibed) it. No particular desire to. Guess I was lucky as I didn't even know about drugs when I was at school, college etc & afterwards I was too busy earning a living. However as I age, movement & aches & pains get worse, I do wonder... I know people who've used marijuana to help with medical complaints & pain in particular & they say it works, but not always & not for everyone. All I hope is that it won't unleash a whole lot of "stoned" drivers onto the roads. God knows there are enough lousy drivers & crazy people out there already! Especially here in Lower Mainland BC!
  16. So sorry to hear of the loss of your friend & Thanks & Kudos to those who tried to help him. I agree with what's been said, but especially regarding media coverage, just about everything now is reported & portrayed as "sensationally" as possible! Sadly the biking community are often seen as "untrustworthy" or "strange" in some way. People forget there are probably more respected & accepted members of our communities riding motorcycles (ordinary working guys & ladies) than there are those that cause the problems, BUT who is it that gets the adverse media attention, which is then used to tar us all with the same brush!
  17. Just an update.... Been doing a bit of digging seems that biggest part of the problem is getting export licences in the USA & not so much importing to Canada (though there are still hoops to be jumped through). Anything gun connected, (even parts) that cost over $100 need an export licence but a friend told me about this outfit: https://www.irunguns.ca/content.php?page=import-process apparently they can transport between USA - Canada & Canada - USA. They have offices in both USA & Canada & the process appears quite straightforward, but it's not cheap & adds $200 for the first item & $150 thereafter (not sure if that Cd$ or US$) but they look after all the legalities & paperwork in both countries. Wrth knowing if I see a super genuine, knock-down price shotgun for sale in the in the US. LOL PS: what happened to that ugly shotgun contest?
  18. When I went to my local stealer, he found them & said $5.27 EACH. I said "get real, you must be joking!"......... He wasn't!..... I walked out & have been using aluminum or copper washers ever since.
  19. Glad you said "supposedly" inncocent... there seem to be more & more cases now where a person can be adjudged by the media (in particular), social media & even the law to be Guilty & they have to prove they are not! (btw not knocking the US as its the same here!)
  20. :happy65:Congratulations Don! See, all that worry & it was easy in the end! LOL. Let's just hope you never have reason to use it!
  21. Hey Jeff! You can pay crazy amounts for crossbows. If you do decide to give it a try & just want a cheapie, have a look at the "Centerpoint Sniper 370". I did a LOT of research for a friend. He ended up buying one & is extremely happy with it. Very adjustable for fit & it get some rave reviews. It's the one I'd get fwiw. Definitely worth looking at imo. It's also now in its second generation & they have ironed out a few of the minor niggles that some folks had.
  22. I guess your wife woke up huh? No, Not ugly at all, it's an heirloom & wonderful that you have your Grandad's gun!
  23. Hey Jeff, Well what do you know? I too have been an archer (off & on) since being a teenager! I used to do pretty well in my teens (when I first tried archery) & twenties in a local league in the UK. I practiced & dropped off for years as work, jobs, time, life & the universe allowed. Then I just lost interest... again for years. After moving to Canada I took it up again in a small way, then took courses & became an archery "judge " (referee) why they call us judges I'll never know. I also took the NCCP (National Coach Cert. Prog.) course & became a Coach & along with one of Canada's very senior coaches whom I'd got to know we started a number of "Archery in Schools" programs. Each week we would go along to three local schools to teach the kids "Olympic (Recurve) Archery. It was hectic, we also taught & coached at a local archery club (my wife also took the coaching courses so we are both qualified to teach) But as often happens, politics, know alls who don't like their methods questioned & helicopter parents made it difficult & we backed away. We still shoot ourselves but have backed away from the rest of it. As for the eye thing my wife is Left eye dominant but strongly right handed, she also has a problem that she can't close her left eye on its own (ie wink), we tried for a while doing what you did but she both looked & felt deformed. At the time she was getting all sorts of advice form folks trying to help, just made matters worse! (it was those episodes that made us decide to get into coaching, but properly). Anyway a lady that was heading to become one of Canada's next Olympic Archery Coaches visited the club one day & she & my wife hit it off big time! She decided that due to physical difficulties my wife really should shoot right handed, so I thought about the problem & came up with a solution. I opaqued the left lens of a pair of shooting glasses to stop her left eye from "taking over" & it worked! Some time after that due to diabetes complications my wife lost her sight first, partially, then totally. She wanted to continue shooting so I thought about it & designed & built a "tactile sight" (from bits of proprietary kit) that she could "feel" & that allowed her to continue shooting. She did amazingly well & you can imagine some of the comments when a "blind lady" was led onto the field holding a bow & arrows! At that time her coach (the lady I mentioned earlier) was taking a team of Paralympic archers to Beijing & tried to persuade my wife to go along & compete. But it was all too much both emotionally & physically dealing with the sight loss & she declined. Anyway, the wonders of medical science (& five operations later) my wife's sight was restored somewhat for which we are both sooooo incredibly grateful. So we still mess around with bows & arrows, but not at any serious level, we are able to shoot short distances in the back yard. Last year I bough myself a compound but only have it set at around 50lb due to a shoulder injury from a mva. I play with it but don't shoot competitively. My wife btw was also Silver medal winner at the BC indoor championships (the first major competition she entered) some years ago, she even shot a "Robin Hood" in that competition! She's shot two in her short archery career I however have never shot one (She says it's more good luck that management!) LOL We also try once a year to have our "riding group" over to our place for an afternoon of archery & a BBQ. We provide all the equipment & instruction, last time there were around 15 attended. They thoroughly enjoyed it, in fact I guess that's what got me into the shooting & guns as one of the participants said, "Hey! Dave, You should come to the range with me sometime & have a play with some of my guns!" So there you have it a short history of Kretz, his absolutely, incredibly, amazing Missus & their archery exploits! A very long winded way of saying Hey! Jeff! I'm an archer too! LOL PS. We both enjoy 3D too, our local Rod & Gun club has a 3D course, they are currently looking for an Archery Chair, I'm tempted, but then I think Nah! It's back to the politics & BS again. One of the local clubs around here does an indoor turkey shoot around Christmas (no we don't actually shoot the Turkeys) it's a regular 3D but indoors, prizes are frozen turkeys.
  24. Some years ago, many companies stopped using the chemicals that actually kill weeds in favour of "eco" & "green" alternatives that seem to do absolutely FA! Then they have the nerve to up the price because these things are "environmentally friendly" & cost more to produce!! It's a bit like the Ethanol in gas!
  25. Don't think you'd find anything like that , but dang you got somethin weird goin' on down there.... You guys should know you're supposed to be shootin' at those targets out in the desert though, but just look at all those holes in that there roof! LOL Hope it don't rain much there!
