Hmmm! Maybe ya'll need to find or train better staff.

Must admit I didn't know about the Bass Pro buyout of Cabelas. We have a BP store "local" too but it's 80km away! I hope they don't close the local Cabelas which is only 15km away! & yes maybe the guy I spoke to had heard the take over news & was having a downer because of it. Always sad when people lose their jobs, been through that a few times myself due to takeovers, buyouts etc. Like FlyinFool I do try to buy local even if it costs a bit more, I do agree that the "local service" is worth something to me. However being on a fixed income I really can't afford to pay ridiculous amounts more but will eat 10 or 20% simply for the convenience. Additional Shipping costs can often make online purchases & "savings" a bit of a false economy too. Some time ago my wife saw a m/c jacket she really liked in a local stealership, end of line, no more available. She tried it on but it was just too small & she needed one size larger. The store said they would not be able to get one in her size. I came home looked online & found the identical jacket in the larger size. Cost at the local store Cdn$350 cost online (at a US store in NY) US$98!!!! That sort of difference I just cannot afford to eat.

Just to clarify... I went to the local store! (& have been there four more times in the last week!) I do support local stores & if you read my post it was the LOCAL STORE that advised me to order from their online website (not from a cheaper one, or a Chinese knock off store!) Anyway I was at the store again today spending yet more money locally, so I inquired & asked if they could provide any info about my online order. The store staff were really helpful, found my order & gave me a full update as to its progress & when I should receive it. They said that they would also have been upset by the attitude of the the associate I spoke to when trying to progress the order.

Over a week ago I went into my local Cabelas store to make a "sale item" purchase. Although shown as "in stock" I was informed by the associate after much rummaging & searching that the item wasn't in stock, (it turned out later that the associate was wrong & the item WAS indeed in stock at that time!) OK no problem, (we all make mistakes!) the associate suggested I make the purchase on line, that way it would be sent straight to my home, no freight charges as I could use a coupon code. On 23rd Nov. I placed my on-line order, paid in full & received a confirmation by return. Having heard absolutely nothing, on 29th Nov. I called Cabelas "Customer Service" (Ha! Ha!) & spoke to an indifferent & very bored sounding individual. I gave him the order details & politely asked if he could give me any idea when my order would be shipped, his answer?.... "When we get around to it!" I was taken aback by this response & said "what does that mean?", he replied "we're very busy & working as fast as we can, it'll be sent when it's sent, you'll get an e-mail when it's dispatched!" (I have yet to receive that e-mail) I sent an e-mail detailing my experience with "customer service" but I have yet to receive a response to that e-mail! It's now 1st December & I have still heard absolutely nothing from Cabelas. They have my money, (so why sould they care?) I do not have my order, nor does it it appear that it is even in the mail yet! Just a warning, if you plan to make make Christmas purchases on-line from Cabelas, be warned by this experience & brace yourself for possible disappointment!

FREE Healthcare... for which we pay $92/ month (Medical Services Premium) billed monthly & dependent upon one's age & income. (& boy do they get on your back quick if you miss a payment!) Some pay a bit more others less, or nothing. The BC Govmint keeps talking about doing away with the fee BUT it ain't happened yet & nothing supplied via the Govmint is ever FREE. On top of that $92/ month we also pay $5000/ year extended medical & dental (but that is optional & our choice)

No sympathy at all for US gas prices! LOL we are currently paying Cd$1.25 per Litre. If my math is correct that equates to Cd$4.70+ per US gallon, at current exchange that's around US$3.80/ gallon. We are outside the greater Vancouver area which imposes an additional "transit" levy & can add anything from Cdn 10-20c per litre to that Cd$1.25/ L. As for the price going up before holidays, of course it does! The gas companies know that more people will be travelling so they use that as a way to increase their profits, they have to make more money! Let's face it no matter what the price we need the damn stuff, so we pay up or don't travel. As for making a lot of money up here in Canada...:crackup:

I have posted this link before, but it's too good not to do it again in this thread for those who may have missed it previously.... https://biggeekdad.com/2012/10/move-the-deer-crossing/

Those bucks must have been going at a helluva rate when they hit that wall! & three of em too, maybe you should move the shop out of the way!

Comments made weren't that the slide itself wore Puc, just that the blued outside "finish" could wear off (making the gun look more used that it actually was).

Congrats on the new goodies! I'm thinking of getting one of these https://www.cabelas.ca/product/94872/sig-sauer-1911-rimfire-pistol on sale at the moment, it's made by GSG (German Sporting Guns) & the GSG 1911 & SIG are identical (apart from naming marks) lots of accessories & spares etc It's only a .22 but that's all I want at the moment & can't afford silly money for bigger ammo. The ONLY real negatives I've seen in multiple reviews are 1. the finish can wear off the slide (slide is aluminum & the bluing can wear easily) 2. Many don't like the grip safety (I don't think it would bother me & it can be overridden if necessary)

That's one nice looking bike, CONGRATULATIONS :happy65:on no longer being bikeless! That's the bike I wanted, before I got the RSTD. & THAT very colour too!!!! I can go off people you know! LOL

Wouldn't say we're "Preppers" but my wife always has a good stock of food in. Not for any particular reason just if we can't get out etc. Water would probably be more of a problem. As for defending what we have, here in the good old frozen North we're not allowed to do that!!!

So sorry for your loss. I lost my Mom a few years ago. I still miss her, but we often recall some of the things she did, her mannerisms, things she said & those memories often cause us to smile or even to laugh out loud. So even though I can't see her physically she definitely hasn't left us. Mom's never do! Yes you will miss your Mom, but you will always remember her in Oh so many ways. -
You know I'm just blown away by the number of things guys on this forum have done, have knowledge of & can offer help & advice on. At the moment we're just kinda weighing up the pro's & con's. We're thinking it could be a relaxing & rewarding past time (especially when unable to ride in the winter) Sizes we're thinking are .357, 30-06, 9mm (maybe others too) but that would do for starters.

Just wondered... I know we have a few shootists on the forum, so just wondered if any of you do your own loading? Does it save much? Or does it just allow you to shoot more (for the same cost) A friend & I are looking at a Lee Loadmaster Progressive press & just wondering about pro's & con's of DIY loading.

Here is something painful to watch
Kretz replied to Du-Rron's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
That's the thing with You Tube videos. You really have to use a LOT of common sense, because there are many people out there purporting to be "experts" & they're not! You really have to be very selective as to what advice to accept. Ha! Just look at some of the shooting & archery (use & setup etc) videos to see what I mean! There are some who really do know what they are doing & there are a LOT who.... well.... put simply.... Don't! I guess this video does show that almost anyone can replace their brake pads & save a lot of money. One does hope that they will also do the things in Puc's post at the same time, but I guess many won't. -
Thanks for resurrecting this thread, I've had a few good laughs out of the various comments. (especially the poster who said "DAMHIKT & to make sure window is OPEN before shooting!) Yes the little boogers can be very destructive! Poison is nasty stuff & they die a horrible death. Shooting has to be the most humane way to reduce their numbers, don't know you can ever totally get rid of them. Funny isn't it many people will object & get bent out of shape about shooting but will have no problem calling out the "pest guy" who will use poison. We had a friend who used to buy sacks of peanuts to feed them, the little beggars rewarded them by chewing their Christmas lights, breaking into the attic & chewing wiring, insulation etc cost $$$ to put right.

Not sure the "Rotella Line" is all synthetic. AFAIK T4 is dino oil. T5 is semi-synthetic, T6 is full synthetic. But that may not be what you're talking about as you are talking about fork oils.

Nice to know someone has nice weather . Today has been dark, wet windy & miserable. So I did some drywall work in the basement !

My apologies Dan! No offense intended, just me being pi$$ed off with things & good folks getting messed around. I know one shouldn't tar everyone with the same brush, I'm sure there are conscientious Gov't workers too. I was talking more about the paper pushers I've come across sitting in offices looking smug & politicians, not guys on the front line as you were.
-
:soapbox:I am so sick & fed up of hearing about Gov't dept incompetence. It's not just your country, ours too & the UK (where I'm from originally). If you're prepared to work, pay taxes & be an honest, decent person you seem to get screwed at every turn, in favour of others who won't The UK Gov't recently sent my wife a form to complete, enclosed with it was another form to complete to tell them what form you are sending back to them & why!! FFS!!!! Most Gov't workers know that all they have to do to get paid is turn up, they don't need to be diligent, efficient or helpful & at the end of the day they retire with a big fat pension! Sorry for the rant, I know it doesn't help you. Good luck in finding your way through the minefield, hope it all turns out well for you.

You know us Canadians.... we're always smilin'! We got so much to smile about

Hey SivrT good to see you're enjoying the touring. Just to make you smile, we've already had a light :snow:snowfall here in the Lower Mainland a couple of days ago & today max temp was 4 degrees! Touch & go whether a snow storm moves onshore tonight/ tomorrow! Didn't make it today & hoping it won't tomorrow either!
