I've read several posts over the past year concerning the occasional squealing/roaring noise coming front the front area of the 1st generation Ventures. My noise would come and go so I removed the speedo cable and the problem disappeared. My repair dictated that I remove the instrument housing and unplug the center electrical connections. I then injected White Lube (white lithium grease) several times using the end of the speedo cable to push it into the bearing area. I then reinstalled the cable and this "fix" cured the problem. Hope this helps someone that may be having the same problem.

The man who is going to paint MamaMo's 99 took one look at it this evening and said Blue & White. I slipped him a twenty ahhhhhh I mean thanked him for his opinion and left on the scoot. He and MamaMo were standing outside arguing about PINK when I left. Stay tuned for Harley riders knows best or MamaMo gets her way??? I think Blue and White is fine fine fine. Even if it is a REDNECK color.

I have recently acquired a 1989 Venture. I replaced plugs and wires, and replace battery cables as per this web site. I 'thought' I remember that after doing that, my bike would indicate around 14 volts during highway cruising and drop to around 12 in town or idling. Yesterday, my battery seemed a little sluggish on startup and I noticed only 12 volts during highway speeds, dropping to around 10 v in city. During starting, the voltage would indicate 8 volts or less. I suspected a stator problem and looked up the testing alternator by GeorgeS in 1st gen library and I quote: "At the Large White Plug, with the 3 #14 wires comeing from the Alternator: Do the following: Measure the AC voltage on each wire. You can stick the meter probs into the end of the White Plug. ( located just behind left rear cylinder, White connector, with 3 white wires thru it ) With Engine running, you should Read 9 to 15 volts AC, ( thats AC, not DC ) on each wire. If the voltage on " one" wire is substantially , Lower then the other two, then your Alternator is failing. " I am a little confused about the measuring method but here is what I did. I took apart the plug with 3 white wires running into it. I then measured across the matching wires to the 2 plug halves ie wire #1 from female plug to #1 tab in male plug. This was done while the bike was running. I got 17 volts AC across 2 of these matching wires and nothing or very little on the third...I assume indicating my stator is going or gone. Here is the funny thing though. If I reversed the leads on my meter then I only indicated 7 volts AC on the same two wires and nil on the third set. Why would that happen? I mean, what difference if I measure left to right or right to left on AC current? Weird. So, any suggestions? I assume I have to either buy a new stator or is there such a thing as rebuilt stators? How about trade ins? Anybody know? Are there any more tests or things to check to confirm stator is fubared? Thanks.

Does anyone have a good (cheap) source for crash bar clamps? I am looking for two so I can put the crash bar brace on my 05. I believe they are the 1 inch ones. They are pretty proud of them up here in the white north! Thanks

Any chance anyone out there knows of a trunk (or even the top half of one) for a white 1988 Venture Royale someone would part with? A friend of mine is restoring one he recently rescued. If so, please contact him directly at maleneym@aol.com (or reply here and I'll pass the messages along). Thanks!

The helmet I had for sale got lots of looks, but no offers. I have changed it to an auction item. To bid, got to the classifieds auction section. This is a 2yr old Silver LG HJC SYMAX modular(flip-up) helmet with a J&M Elite Headset and lower cord. The helmet and headset retail for $259.00 and $229.00 respectively. The helmet is in Good to Great Shape, the clear visor was replaced at the end of last riding season. The helmet has black reflective eagle stickers on each side that reflect white when hit with light at night. It also has white reflective tape on the back. I will split the shipping with the winning bidder up to a cost of $15.00 to me. If you have questions about the helmet feel free to PM me or email me at saulst@sbcglobal.net.

Went up to Sault Ste Marie for my fathers 70th Birthday Party. Had a good time, but we left this morning in some nasty weather. The first 180 miles of the 475 mile run was not fun. We were travelling between 25 and 50 miles an hour. Windy, snow coverred roads with white out conditions. On top of the Mackinaw bridge they were escorting the trucks and trailors. The rode way was clear, but the wind WOW. You can see the car in front of us was white with snow which was the way most vehicles were and you could barley see there lights, when they hit there brakes. The last picture is my Father with Mr. Bon Soo (Mascot of the winter carnival), who made an appearance as my cousin is the Vice President of the orgnaization. Made it home safe and sound, after longer than normal run. My two Brothers, sister and family are still in the Sault as they closed down highway 17 on the Cdn side so they were not able leave. Brad

Since we have such nice cold weather here in the south, figured might as well take the beast apart and repaint it. Wanting to go back with white paint to make it for noticeable on the road and since I live on a gravel road maybe it will not look so dirty too. Any how which is the best white paint for the beast as for good contact and that will last many years down the road? Has anybody added any type of metal flake to white paint before? If all else fails I could just use can spray paint and use some of my daughters glitter. buddy Buddy
