  1. As I have never trailered my RSMV, my question is where do you place the tie downs on the front of the bike? I have a 5x10 and my wife is wanting to trailer it a distance then spend the weekend riding around the area. (location unknown to date) I have good secure places on the trailer but I have not quite figured out where to place the straps to hold the front. I have vents attached to the front engine guards so I can not tie it there. Any help will be appreciated.
  2. OK folks...we have decided to give away another new Bushtec trailer this year at the International VentureRider Rally. As last year, you DO NOT HAVE TO BE PRESENT TO WIN. The winner will be awarded a gift certificate for their choice of the Bushtec RoadStar or Turbo II trailer. You will be responsible for picking up the trailer from Bushtec or paying for shipping. Please see the rally page at http://www.venturerider.org/irally for complete details and to order your raffle tickets.
  3. I'm thinking about a getting a fold up trailer for trailering my 2005 RSV. One similar to the Kendon 2 place. Any pro's or con's on this issue would be greatly appreciated. Bill......
  4. Hey I ran across this website while responding to an article on another forum. My little cargo trailer uses torsion axles, and I highly recommend them. Here is a way for the trailer builders on here to put a nice axle under their home-made or harbor freight trailer. They come in 425lb and 550lb sizes for our use. http://www.etrailerpart.com/halftorsionaxles.htm
  5. I probably missed it, but how did things work out for picking up the trailer?
  6. I had a customer come into the shop yesterday with a Harborfreight trailer I haven't seen before: http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/photos/02500-02599/02575.gif The dimensions are almost identical to the standard, red powder-coated, 12" and 8" wheel kits: Bed dimensions: 40" x 50"; Weight capacity: 1400 lbs; Gross vehicle weight: 1618 lbs; Receiver size: 1-7/8"; Tongue level height: 14"; Overall dimensions: 87-1/2"L x 52-3/4"W x 22-3/4"H But there are a few differences: It's powder-coated in black and not in the tacky red The diamond plate covers are included There are two extra stringers toward the hitch, stabilizing the platformI guess with a few minor modifications, this would make a perfect cargo trailer. Just add a roof-top carrier box, remove the leafs down to the main spring leaf and flip the axle (easy done as it is set-up for 0º Camber and 0 toe-in). The fenders should still be in an acceptable position with moderate loading. I would also recommend replacing the supplied, Chinese bearings and seals with something more suitable for highway use, even with proper lubrication and maintenance the life expectancy seems rather short. Also, don't expect too much from the quality of the powder-coat. It still looks better then the red stuff but is by no means perfect. Here is the link, unfortunately it does no seem to be a store item, but a special order catalog or Internet item only: http://www.harborfreight.com:80/cpi/ctaf/displayitem.taf?Itemnumber=2575 This link will give you any idea about assembly: http://www.harborfreight.com/manuals/2000-2999/2575.pdf As of today the price of the trailer is listed as $249.99 plus overweight shipping, not sure if you have to pay shipping if you order it in a physical store. I actually got a shipping quote of around $60. Hope this helps, Klaus
  7. I bought a harbor freight trailer kit. I will be painting it black as the standard red paint just doesn't go with my 2 tone blue 89 VR. I am curious as to what others have put on top of the trailer. I have looked at the Sears x-cargo 189.99 http://www.sears.com/shc/s/p_10153_12605_02872020000P?vName=Automotive&cName=Automotive+Accessories&sName=Car+Top+%26+Hitch+Carriers The dimensions look like it would be alright. I checked into painting it to match the bike but wow. The body man said it would be $200 or more. That sort of negates the savings of the HF kit. He also incouraged me to get something in fiberglass. So, What have others put on top of their HF kits? Tim Lantz
  8. Your thoughts please? This is a serious matter. Rear tire load capacity varies by make of tire but lets say the average is 850lb. If a Yamaha venture weights 800 lb how much weight is riding on the rear tire? Now at 70 mph the front end gets lighter so does more of the weight transfer to the rear? Add a 250 lb rider and 150 lb passenger now what do we have on the rear? Fill the saddle bags and maybe 25lb tongue weight for the trailer. Is it possible we are overloading the rear tire load rating?Yea I know put the rear on a set of scales when loaded but how much extra weight at 70mph? Not complaining just thinking snow on the ground and nothing else to do.
  9. I can't get this to load into the classified so hopefully this will do.... Santa brought us an enclosed cargo trailer for all our toys so now I need to sell the 2002 BAXLEY GT2000. Without a doubt the easiest loading and most stable pulling open motorcycle hauler ever made !!! I just don't have a need for it any longer... This trailer has all the options Baxley offers except the tool box and chrome wheels... New price is $5140. Selling this one for $3000. Always kept under cover when not used (which was maybe a total of 7000 miles. Here's the Baxley web site check it out !!!: http://www.baxleycompanies.com/ Here's a couple pictures: http://www.ridersrally.com/gallery/data/500/4772Double_Hauler_2.jpg http://www.ridersrally.com/gallery/data/500/4772Double_Hauler.jpg
  10. Has anyone ever seen or used one of these trailers? http://www.discount-trailers.com/motorcycle_trailer.htm I've been thinking about either building or buying a 5x10 trailer. I saw this and it interests me because it would fit through my basement door (60" width) for storage. My concerns with the design are the relatively narrow track which may be mitigated by the low center of gravity. Also, I don't know how sturdy the trailer would be without a full frame. Would the diamond plate flex? Just curious. DT
  11. Electrical dead. Batt is fine. Power at the main 30 amp fuses but nothing at the dash. Going to the shop tomorrow. Very disapointing, first time I've had to trailer a bike home in six years and 90K plus miles.
  12. I had a quick question. I am getting ready to start my trailer project and they have the trailer kits on sale at Harbor Freight. here is one with 8 inch wheels for $139 http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/displayitem.taf?Itemnumber=42708 and the same with 12 inch wheels for $169 Which one should I go with as I have never hauled a trailer behind the bike. If I go with the 12 inch tires will it sit level with the bike? Any help would be appreciated cause I am not quite sure which would be the best way to go. Paul
  13. Here's a 1st Gen with a camper and a trailer worth looking at: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=320191686162&ssPageName=ADME:B:WNA:MOTORS:1123 Terry
  14. Guys...need some input here if ya'll don't mind. I'm lokking at buying a 1992 Ford F-150 XLT extended cab fully loaded and not a 4x4. 5.8L engine, auto trans with trailer towing pkg. color matching canopy. Extremely good condition (from what I can tell) and has 180000 Kms (just over 100000 miles) It's got the captains chairs, air cond. cruise, tilt, pw & pl ... near new tires, new battery (I helped the guy install that today). I'm gonna test drive it tomorrow. What I need to know is what kind of problems these ford trucks are prone to. What should I be checking for? I've only had 2 ford trucks in my life, the first was a new '76 which I only kept for 6 months and the other was a '78 that I bought in '85 and I only kept that for 2 months...(traded it in on a new Mazda). This Ford I'm looking at is on the second owner...he's had it for almost 3 years. The first owner used it mostly to tow a camper trailer to Arizona once a year and back. While there, it basically sat for 3 month's. The current owner also towed a trailer but they bought a bigger trailer so the went out and got a bigger truck. He's asking $4000 OBO here's a pic
  15. What wires need to be connected to what to convert my 86 Venture to a 4 wire system for my camper trailer?
  16. Does anyone have a hitch for a 1st Gen. I have an 86 and haven't had much luck finding a trailer hitch for it. Any help would be great. Thanks.
  17. I was in a local indy shop today and he has a 2006 Bushtec trailer for sale. Less than a 100 miles pulled. He is asking $3000. for it and if anyone is intrested I can give you his phone number. It is white-has the front bra-and covered cooler mounted on it. Looks good. I have no intrest other then letting ya'll know of a good deal.
  18. Taking the scoot slapping a few necessary items on a stripped or a touring package for the road trip.now thats what motorcycling is all about..... I remember a seeing a Aston Martin towing a trailer this summer and towing a trailer with a motorcycle :rotfl:What a joke it takes away the meaning of Adventure Im hoping that my health issues will get better but Im planning to ride my 88 Honda Super Magna 750 to Dons Maintenance and all my necessary items will be in a pack sac thats 1350 miles to Lowell and the rest of you that dont pull a trailer
  19. Any interest in 1st Gen trailer hitches ? Today a welder friend of mine stopped in to drop off a seat pan from a '54 and '55 Harley Davidson Hummer for me to recover during the winter months as he is restoring . He noticed that I had a Markland trailer hitch laying around the shop (Muffinman's hitch) and he mentioned if I could gather enough interest in them , he could make them for around $100.00 each . No chrome , nor powder coating , just plain bare metal . This welder friend of mine is one top notch welder and specializes in fabricating trailers and hitches . He is also a biker as well . I didn't think of it till later , was to ask him to make receiver hitches out of them . But I am sure it is doable . There are several Powder coaters around in my neighborhood .I could take the hitch I have in possession to inquire the cost to have them powder coated as well . Any interest ? BEER30
  20. Hadn't seen this one before. It doesn't use a hitch. Connects to the rear axle. http://www.motogoodies.com/
  21. Hi Guys! I just purchased a friend's (pull behind the bike) trailer and it has the perfect place to mount an ice chest cooler rack right between the hitch and the bed. So, now I'm looking for some suggestions where to look for this type of rack. It would also be nice if I could use it alone (on the hitch) without the trailer. Anyone have some ideas or pictures to share? Thanks & Be Safe! Pete.
  22. I just posted my Kendon Trailer in the classifieds if anyone is looking for a really nice standup trailer. I can't use it with my Sidecar on my 05.
  23. well this morning i saw my trailer at bush tech. Just to let you know its a nice one but, they wouldn't release the trailer. they said my hitch was not to there likening (safety) i asked them if we could spend a few mins to reinforce it. i told them it dont have to look pretty just to do the job. so i ended up with no trailer. then on the way home my clutch went i made it home almost, with just 70 miles to home plate. so one of my buds rode on home and then came back to get me with a trailer. FUN FUN FUN:draming:
  24. I may be in the market for an enclosed trailer large enough for the 2000 RSV. It will be mainly used for my band's equipment, since Ventures do not require trailers like some OTHER bikes. However, we could use it in case of long vacations that don't allow the extra time for the entire journey to be taken by bike. Anything out there? I am in Dallas.
  25. Im going to be picking up my trailer from bush tech on Nov 2 and riding up on the 1st, anyone want to ride up there.
