  1. In need of a shorter windshield here. Was wondering if anyone has tried the Bagger shield or would i be better off just cutting down my old one. Any infor mation would be helpful. Thanhks Joe
  2. I won this helmet at the STAR Midwest event last weekend in Indianapolis. Black, new, size XL, normally I wear a Large, but the person offering the item for the charity auction said it ran small, so I tried it on and it was a great fit. Here is my review after a nice one hour ride last night: I got to try out the Shark Evoline helmet last night. This is a heavy helmet, I feel it and the weight naturally shifts depending on where you have the chin bar, feels best with the bar back, but I don't think it will be a problem in either case. I had it on for an hour and it was fine. Weight was one of the worse comments about this helmet that I have read in reviews, I don't think it will be a problem for most people. But most important, it was the best helmet I have ever had for the least amount of air buffeting or wind noise/blast. With the bar back and the shield up, it was a nice flow of air around the face, with the shield down, there was a noticeable slow flow under it but not up into the eyes. With the bar in front position and the shield open, there was a little air around the face, and with the shield down, I could only feel a tiny tickle on the bottom of my beard. That was the important test, because if the helmet let a LOT of air up inside around the chin/mouth/eyes with the bar down and the shield closed it would be hard to stay warm in winter, but this promises to be a very comfortable and warm helmet in winter, with convertible features and usefulness well into spring and starting early fall. Yesterday it was totally comfortable. NOTE: temp about 67, winds calm. Bike: 89 VR with Baker wind wings and stock windshield. Most helmets put a lot of air up under the shield on this bike. Speeds, city to 55 country to 70+ mph highway. So now I look for a headset system for it.
  3. Got my new Clearview Shields installed today. Wasn't quite as easy as some said but overall not too bad. Just an FYI. I bought a blemished one due to the speed I needed it and I still can't find the blemish. Got it for 20% off. Also had the vent included. I took it out for a quick spin and even though it's shorter than the stock there seemed to be less wind buffeting around the head area and it seemed quieter overall. One thing that surprised me what how much damage there is around the fairing where the shield was mounted before. I took the word of someone else and saw it for the first time today. It looked like whoever installed the stock shield put the bolts in way too tight. Most of the fairing was broken/cracked. Hopefully the bolts will hold it in place.
  4. BaggerShield's new tall and wide RSV shield is now in stock and ready for shipment. Picture of the shield is below. This shield adjusts from 10.5" to 16.5" and is 4" wider than the stock model. 5. I talked to the owner, John, at F4 about getting a new windshield on my RSV. I told him I wanted a vent and he said the standard answer is no, but since he's the owner maybe. Well, he checked out the shield and said he could get the Goldwing vent installed. I know there was discussion on this before, the lack of a vent was a deciding point for many. I'ts the same height as stock but 2 in. wider per side. The Lexan sounds like a superior product and for $30 more than comparable Clearview shield, I think I'll go for it.
  6. The new BaggerShield for the RSV is all finished and currently in production. The new model adjusts from 10.5" to 16.5" and is 4" wider than the OEM shield. Thank you to everyone for their suggestions in the development of this shield. We tried to incorporate all of the feedback we received. The new shields will be ready in about 2 weeks and we are currently taking orders. Remember all Venturerider.org members receive 10% off plus free priority shipping. Send me a PM for your code to use at www.baggershield.com or give me a call to order by phone. Tomfieb was kind enough to let us use his bike for fit up and photo shoot. Here's a look at the new shield. http://i1204.photobucket.com/albums/bb402/BaggerShield/BaggerShield%20Product%20Line/StarVen105-165.jpg Thanks again and ride safe,
  7. I just installed a Clearview XXLarge Shield with vent and I have a reflection of the gas cap in the shield. Anyone else have this problem and did you fix it and how? Thansk
  8. Hey Boss, You've got the link spelled wrong ("sheild" should be "shield"). FYI.
  9. Today I cut down my stock windshield to 12". I was very happy with the height on my test ride, I looked through it but could still sit up higher and look over it for the rain. I then decided to try and buff the scratches out of it and it seems there is a film on it that I ruined. Now the shield is useless. Has anyone had any luck looking through the show chrome shield, is it clear enough. Kinda frustraited now, but I have no choice but to find a new shield.
  10. Anyone know what the standard size of the windshield is and what is the tallest and widest shield I can get and where from???? star4772
  11. I got my F4 Customs windshield back in December, but the weather has been CRAPPY here until this weekend...a beautiful weekend too I might add...so I finally got a chance to shoot a couple of pics that really show off the clarity of this shield. YES, I love the shield. I got the one that is 2" wider and 2" taller than the stock shield. I would DEFINITELY buy this shield again (especially after riding in the rain one day last week)...light rain just SHEETED right off the shield. My only (EXTREMELY MINOR) complaint is that I do wished it still had the black shaded strip at the bottom of the shield. Not only did that strip make the stock shield look better, but it also reduced glare a little bit and hid the dirt between the shield and the fairing. Here are the pics. Wally
  12. I hope this helps anyone getting ready to order a windshield. This is just info. I ordered an F4 17 1/2 extra wide "no vent" last week and it came last week. Fast shipping:cool10: A mistake was made and they sent me a windshield with a vent hole but no vent. I called and they said they will ship me another one and they would pay for shipping both ways. So far so good. I got my windshield yesterday with in three days and installed it today. Now comes the info for those looking for a new shield. I had ordered 3 years ago a Wide Yamaha shield. It was too tall for me so I cut it down to 17". The measurement was from right behind the gas cap straight up to the top of the windshield. I could see over the windshield with about 3" to spare. I liked it. I am 5'10 1/2" If you look at Yamaha's windshields in their book, you will notice they have a black haze at the bottom. That is there for a reason. I know this because. The F4 that I installed today doesn't have that feature. With out it you can see down behind the windshield and see stuff you ought not to see even with the chrome piece installed. I took the chrome back off a took a black magic marker "for now" and colored the bottom and it helped. Come spring, I will mask and paint it or what ever? Also the 17 1/2 shield now measures 22" high form behind the gas cap to top of windshield. It is also 1 1/4 wider each side than Yamaha's extra wide shield. This may not be the so called "right way" to measure but, it will let you know how I measured mine and I was happy with the 17". I will have to wait until the weather breaks here in Michigan before I will know if I like it or not. I already miss the black haze at the bottom and I can always cut the shield down if I don't like looking through it. Just food for thought.
  13. I was wondering how tall the stock shield is? The former owner of my new to me 2004 Midnight Royal Star Venture cut the stock shield down and I get a lot of helmet air when I am riding. Yamaha Canada wants an outrageous price for one of theirs. I did look at a Tulsa screen and it looks like a good replacement. It is taller and wider, something I think my wife will appreciate. Chris in Red Deer, Alberta. Please check my website http://www.elementscifi.com
  14. It was quite chilly today for the ride in. I have a heated jacket liner and gloves and the bike has a heated seat and grips which were all set on HIGH. I was wearing wool socks in by boots but my feet got cold. I probably will not ride in weather this cold again..... BURRRRRRRRRRRRR The one real complaint is my glasses and face shield got foggy whenever I slowed or stopped but at 40 MPH or faster I had no fogging issues. Being blind at a stoplight is NOT good......
  15. My new Clearview windshield (Medium Light Grey with vent) arrived on Monday. I installed the shield on Tuesday morning in less than 20 minutes... very straightforward and easy, even for one who is mechanically challenged. The grey shield on my grey 2008 Venture looks great. I went for a ride, and had no complaints from my passenger. There was no noticeable increase in wind buffeting even at speeds over 100 kph. I noticed a little more wind, which is what I wanted. At 5 ft 11 inches, I am still looking through the top few inches of the shield, however. I was hoping to be able to see over the top. I may shorten the shield by four inches or so. The Clearview shield is much more solid than the stock shield. The shield I purchased was advertised as having “very slight scratches”. I will have to take a very much closer look, as I have not spotted them yet!
  16. Sure would appreciate it, if someone out there has the right rear exhaust heat shield or header for the quad exhaust found on the RS Boulevard. Mine took a short leap of a long bridge. New to the site and new to the RS. I have about one year with a 1999 Royal Star Boulevard originally with 5k miles and got it for $4k. Haus, lives outside under a cover and is my daily driver. I know the mufflers aren't stock but the headers are. The heat shield fell off on the Peterson Poker Run to Key West last month, made a nice shiny chromy splash. I would rather save the $300 the stealers are charging for an oem replacement. file:///C:/DOCUME%7E1/andraded/LOCALS%7E1/Temp/moz-screenshot.pngfile:///C:/DOCUME%7E1/andraded/LOCALS%7E1/Temp/moz-screenshot-1.png
  17. Before I trashed my Cleirview shield (since it snapped off) I pulled the vent out of it. I bought the shield from a fellow member here who bought the shield from clierview with the vent installed. The vent works fine (the ball bearing could use a cleaning and lubrication I'm sure) but all the pieces are there. I was going to hang onto this vent and install it in another shield but I think I'm going to give the round pop-vents a try and figure I can pass this along to another member that wants it. I'm asking $30 (USD) And that is shipped to you (in the US). If anyone in the Vancouver BC area wants it, I can deliver it to you for no charge sometime between 6-21/Oct/10. I have attached some pictures. I can take PayPal, Personal check or cash (if we meet in person).
  18. Ok, to start this off. Those who don't know me should know that I have a rather large mellon on my shoulders. So consiquently it's hard for me to find a helmet to fit properly especially a full face or modular helmet. Every one I tried on would push back on my chin uncomfortably so I have worn a 1/2 or 3/4 for the past 6 years. After going over the 100,000 mile milestone on my RSV I got to thinking just how lucky I have been not to have been in a major MC accident or a minor one for that matter. The wife has been talking lately about going to a half helmet because of the heat or at least a 3/4 and I am somewhat ok with the 3/4, I am adamatly against her wearing a 1/2. Being the hypocrite that I am I used the excuse of my abnormally large "MELLON" as the excuse for my choice in helmet. Putting all that together and I decided to get a Zeus Modular helmet and give it a try. Several years ago I tried on a Zeus XL at Myrtle Beach Bike Week and although it was a bit snug it did have chin room, more so than any other helmet I have ever put on. So after much deliberation I pulled the trigger and ordered a 3XL (told you it was a big mellon) Zeus ZS 508W helmet and here is my take on this $90.00 Modular helmet. The helmet came with two helmet bags and extra hardware. Right out of the box I noticed that it had a pretty good finish on it. The flip mechanism worked easy and I was anxious to pull it over my head. The helmet slipped on like it was made for me, plenty of room inside(in fact I had to wear a schampa head rag to get that perfect fit feel). Now for the real test, closing the chin bar. When I dropped and locked the chin bar I was surprised to find about an inch to and inch and a half distance from the helmet to my chin. So far so good. Next thing I noticed was there was a lot of room around my ears, enough in fact for a headset with room to spare. The helmet feels sturdy as does the locking mechanism. Rode to work this morning and although it took some getting used to I really enjoyed the helmet. Lets get the bad out of the way first off. Over 55MPH I started getting wind noise, it wasn't terrible but it was noticable and coming from around the face shield at the top. I closed all vents to make sure and it made no difference at all. Like I said it wasn't terrible but after things being quite for the low speed it was noticable. I usually wear ear plugs with my half and 3/4 anyway so no big deal for me. That was it for the bad. The Good: No wind buffeting at all. (Most of my helmets have moderate buffeting) Vents seemed to work well, I could feel cool air on top of my head with them open. Chin vent directed air to face shield and kept it realativly fog free. Face shield has several detent and locks securely in each one. Fairly large view port so you don't get that claustraphobic feeling. Plenty of room for sun glasses. No undue pressure on your ears. Easy one handed operation. Optional Dual Lense Face Shield Optional Dual Lense "Electric" Fog Free Face Shield If I were to give it an overall grade I would give it a A-. Here is a link to a review of thier first gen modular.http://www.webbikeworld.com/r2/zeus-helmet/zeus-helmet.htm I just read on their site that the 2009 model is SNELL certified. That's a first for a Modular I do believe. Here a a few pics of my helmet minus the neck roll. I hate those things. http://i227.photobucket.com/albums/dd227/SaltyDawg83/c72b7a22.jpg http://i227.photobucket.com/albums/dd227/SaltyDawg83/7b213680.jpg http://i227.photobucket.com/albums/dd227/SaltyDawg83/c3bc19e9.jpg
  19. Hello: I am looking for a 19.5 " windshield for my 2005 RSTD does anyone have one that might want to trade for my nearly new 17" shield?
  20. I really want to hear Santana/Dave Clark Five/ Conway/Ten Years on my ipod/ear buds heading down the highway doin what a Royal Star does best. I wear a half helment with no front shield so the wind tends to drown out the high and lows. Any suggestion to get that music inside my head. Are there rheostats etc to increase ear bud volume. Ipod volume setting on these Sony ear buds ($85) is a joke when on the road. Thanks Max
  21. Well, I got my new windshield last week from F4 with the goldwing vent. Since then I've ridden when it was around 50 degrees and over 80 degrees, {a day apart so I didn't have to wait}. I was happy with the protection the 4 inch wider shield provided and it seemed I could hear the stereo better at highway speeds. When you open the vent you get a good rush of air at chest level. You can adjust the opening to whatever you like. I had them mount the vent 3 1/4 inch above the slot in the bottom of shield {you have to have the chrome strip off to see this} and it ended up being about 1/2 inch above the dash so you could probably lower it more if you wanted. This was on a standard OEM height shield. Nice not to see a fog when the sun shines.
  22. The only thing I do not like about my new (to me) 2006 RSTD is the very high windshield. I have always set my shields up so my line of sight is about 2 inches above the plexiglass for an undistorted view. This windshield seems about 5 inches too high for my 5 foot 9 inch frame. Have any of you folks cut down the stock shield? I also found out Yamaha makes a direct replacement unit that is 7 inches shorter....anybody have any experiance with the shorter shield?
  23. Just ordered a Clearview XL, tinted windshield with vents. After seeing all the Ventures with this shield on at the last MD I just had to take the plunge. And they are giving a 10% discount on new shield orders.
  24. Ive read the current threads on the subject but i am lost. I am 5' 10.5" tall. I cut my factory shield down to 17" above the bottom of the gas cap area. At that height i was looking above the shield which is what i want. However the buffeting was terrible. So I contacted ClearView and they were great about pre-sales support. I ordered the shortest version which is 19" above the same point. We thought that since their shield leans back Id still see over it. However it didnt work out that way. The bigger problem was the buffeting wasn't reduced enough for me. The recurve helped but not enough. Let me say, the ClearView folks are top notch. Although we couldn't get to a solution, they took great care of me. SO, here I am asking for advice. I want to look over the shield and I want as little buffeting as possible. If this sounds familiar and you've found a solution PLEASE share! and thx......
  25. I've found few of these that actually work as advertised. This one sounds promising. If you have a problem with your face shield fogging up, it sounds like this is worth a try and not terribly expensive. http://www.webbikeworld.com/r4/clarity-defog-it/
