  1. I HAVE A 2007 ROYAL STAR TOUR DELUXE,I INSTALLED A SUNPRO SUPER TACH II.IN THE SUNPRO PAPER WORK IT STATES THAT IT WORKS ON SYSTEMS THAT DO NOT HAVE DISTRIBUTORS.WELL IT DOES BUT IT ONLY READS HALF THE RPMS. THE TACH COST $29.00 AT ADVANCE AUTO PARTS,SUNPRO SELLS AN ADAPTOR BUT IT COST IS $50.00 AND PRESENTLY OUT OF STOCK.I CAN MAKE THE ADAPTOR FOR ABOUT HALF THAT COST PLUS SHIPPING AND TAX. IF YOUR INTERESTED I CAN BE REACHED AT frank6087@hotmail.com I THINK THIS SHOULD WORK ON VENTURES ALSO BUT IT HAS NOT BEEN TESTED ON ONE. REMEBER MY SYSTEM IS TRANSISTORIZED ,4 COILS,AND NO DISTRIBUTOR
  2. On a ride the other day I noticed a vibration when under power. If I pulled in the clutch at speed, the bike was very smooth. I figured that before I started down the mechanical road, such as checking the u-joint, I would check the carb sync. After a ride to get it up to temp, I shut it off and hooked up my four tube mercury sync tool. I started it up and it was slightly off so I tweaked it a little and my idle got a little smoother. One of the things I also do is bring the bike up to about 3000 rpm's and see how close they are at that point using the throttle lock to hold rpm's. I noticed this time that I had a bit of difference from carb to carb. I adjusted to bring them back even, but when I brought it back down to idle, I was off a little again. I have not checked my diaphrams yet and am planning on replacing them but I was wondering if anyone else runs their engine to a higher rpm when syncing carbs. You just need to bring the the rpm's slowly down to idle if you are using a mercury sync or it will suck the mercury into the carbs. RandyA
  3. I don't have a tach and am curious to what kind of rpm's the 06 is turning at 70 mph. tks
  4. Good morning all, I am having an issue with RPMs (I think). I was out riding around and everything seemed great and then I lost the "umph" from first gear. It acts like it wants to die at an idle and I basically have to wrap the throttle around just to get going at a normal pace. When it gets to just above 2000-2500 RPMs, it takes off and almost leaves me behind . So far, I have replaced the plugs and am running Seafoam in the gas and the oil. Can anyone point me in the direction of where I should go next? Thank you, Clay:bang head:
  5. Can anyone tell me where the signal pick up for the tachometer is on an 84 Venture Royale? I'm having "issues" with the engine missing and choking off when operating at low RPMs. It misses at higher speeds as well when I try to "jump on the throttle". The problem seems to coincide with an erratic tach indication at low RPMs. Thanks, Scott P.S. I replaced my Igniter Unit Assembly two weeks ago and everything was working great. Last weekend, while on a 200 mile ride it started acting up.
  6. Hello to all, been a while since I've been on here. My venture started bad this year, the floats were stuck, so i took the carbs off to clean. Did a tune up and synced carbs. But just an oddity, when I set the choke to full, the bike doesn't seem to bring the rpm's up as fast as it use to, it does run a little rough when cruising. I may try to sync the carbs again, but any suggestions? Thanks guys!!!
  7. Just bought an 86 Royale was told carbs were rebuilt ha took them off they were not so I took them apart and cleaned them put it all back with no extra parts I get it to idle at 1000 rpms but im getting popping and back fireing please help.
  8. OK, so I bought my 84 VR solely for the purpose of safing gas on my way to and from work. And so far, when compared to my Dodge Ram 1500 Quad-Cab 4x4 With the Hemi, it's doing what I need it to do. But I'm wondering if I'm running it at the proper RPM range to maximize on my mileage. I was reading in another thread that these engines seem to prefer the higher RPM's over lower RPM's. I've been running mine low so hopefully it'd burn less gas. Am I on track or do I need to keep the revs up?
  9. I am visiting family over 200 miles form home and my bike isn't running correctly. Ran between 55 and 60 all the way and got just about 46 miles per gallon but when I am at low rpms and hit the gas, I have a bad hesitation, I think it is missing on one cylinder until rpms get up a little then it takes off. Changed the plugs but no help. Put sea foam in and no help. Wonder if I have a diaphragm that went bad? If so how hard is it to replace? Any help would be appreciated. How do I tell which diaphragm it is?
  10. Hi guys. I'm new here and to the yamaha royal star. I have been riding Kawasakis and Harleys for the last 12 years and now am the proud owner of a 2007 RSTD. I have a problem with the bike that has just occured. I have had the bike since Dec. and have put 13,000 trouble free miles on it until now. I recently added K&N filters and on the initial ride i noticed that when cruising in the lower RPM's (lets say in 5th between 55-70mph) when I twist the throttle 100% the bike bogs down.If I roll out to about 3/4 throttle it picks back up. Once into the higher rpm's the bike doesn't bog down as bad but I can feel it is holding back. I changed out the spark plugs, went back to the stock filters and evem synched the carbs and have the same problem. I am hoping someone can give me some guidance as to what it could be. I am pretty mechanically inclined, but since this setup is new to me I'm scratching my head. Thanks for any help:confused24:
  11. I want to synch my carbs but I need a hand-held tach to set the rpm's at 1000 rpm at idle. How are all of you who haven't added a tach to your scoot setting your rpms? Up here in Canada, nobody carries these inductive tachs:doh:(the type you clamp to spark plug wire). What are y'all using?
  12. ok i know my bike still isn't running great yet but i was kinda curious at what RPMs you all are at when your leaving a stop? my bike seems to want to try and stall if i'm under 3500 rpms. just want to know if this is way off from what everyone ellse has to do with there 1st gen
  13. I am having a problem with the area just above coasting and pulling. If I am running on flat ground with just enough throttle to maintain speed, at say 30 to 45mph, I am getting a constant skip, but not like a single dead cylinder. When I give it just a little more throttle, it smooths out and pulls fine. I have been thru the carbs recently and cleaned the pilot valves and everytrhing else. I have also synced them again today and they also look good with the rpm's up to 3,000 to 4,000. I have tweaked on the mixture screws, starting at 2 1/2 turns out and really can not tell much difference when turning them in or out. I have also worked on the diaphrams and have no holes. I also ran a full can of Sea Foam thru it today. Is there any suggections? Denden, are you listening? RandyA
  14. Here is a chart some of you may find useful, since this question gets raised occasionally. It compares the engine rpms of a stock 2nd gen Venture against what they become when a V-Max rear gearset is installed. Mph is down the side, gear number is across the top, stock gearing rpms are on the bottom of each box, and the rpms with the V-Max rear gear is on the top of each box. To make things a bit more readable, the rpms are rounded off to the nearest 10, which isn't detectable on most tachometers anyway. If you're one who doesn't like math, then don't bother to read the rest of this. The stock gearseat has 33 teeth on the ring gear and 10 teeth on the pinion gear, where the V-Max rear gear has 9 teeth on the pinion gear. Basically, the V-Max rear gear will raise the engine rpms about 11% over stock: (33/9) / (33/10) which simplified goes more like this: 10/9 The numbers in the chart are calculated figures based on the results of one of my dyno runs, which eliminates the speedometer error (about 10%) inherent in our bikes. The dyno indicated an engine speed of 6610 rpms at a road speed of 87.33 mph in third gear with a V-Max rear gearset. Then I calculated out the miles per hour and the transmission ratios to get the rpms at other road speeds and in other gears. Since my bike is a Royal Star which has a different primary gear ratio as well as different transmission ratios then the Ventures, I had to calculate through all these different ratios to get what rpms in a 2nd gen Venture would look like. For starters, at 90 mph in third gear it goes like this: 6610 / 87.33 x 90 / (29/25) x (30/25) / (85/51) x (87/49) = 7510 where (29/25) is a Royal Star third gear, (30/25) is a Venture third gear, (85/51) is a Royal Star primary reduction ratio, and (87/49) is a Venture primary reduction ratio. And that is with the V-Max rear gear since that's what I started with. To get the rpms with stock Venture gearing, multiply by 9/10. Clear as mud? You were warned. I drew a few different charts showing rpms with various transmission and rear gear ratio combinations on both Royal Stars and Ventures. I made them for myself quite a while back, partly because our bikes don't have tachometers and I wanted to know what rpms I was running without spending the coin it takes to buy one, and partly because I wanted to know what would happen with different transmission and rear gear ratio changes.
