  1. Well another week done at Ft Gordon and cant wait to get home, they have been so high speed here:rotf:. but i sure am missing a ride or 2, Chelby doing well at home she just full of smiles.
  2. In the tool kit I have there is a "socket" to fit the spark plugs. However I can't get anything in there, that comes with the kit, to be able to turn the socket. The only thing that fits is the wrench and I can't get it down in there. Am I missing something? I didn't think that the kit had ever been out of the bag.
  3. I got a set of IMC motorcom HS-G15's headsets and I am not able the the driver from the passenger helmet. One speaker, from the passenger connection, is not getting sound either. I think the when the passenger speaks, it is supposed to cancel something, I dunno. I have new J&M cables from the tuner installed as well. What am I missing? Remember the 85's do not have a passenger controller. I have replaced the radio and cassette player on this but not the tuner or anything else.
  4. Hi, I'm missing the hazard switch from my 84 Venture Royal, however after going over the wiring loom I can't find where the 5 pin plugs located, should it be on the right side or behind the headlamp? I've looked but I'm stumped, not sure if it's been cut off:detective: as there's no battery plug as well, that's also been cut off as I can see the white/red wire. If anyone's got one for sale with the right hand grill please let me know. Things get better, playing around under the dash and now, the onboard computer's not working, great. I've taken the clock off now and will give them a good going over.
  5. Hey all as I reported today was the day I picked up the VR down in Fitzgerald Ga. from the govdeals.com auction... I arrived bright eyed and bushy tailed this morning excited about the new ride... Get up leave the motel forget to get gas... thank goodness the Ford didn't mind.. I got to town got gas, picked up some last minute things at the Walmart, and went to meet the Chief of Police and pick up the bike... Met with the Chief ... really nice guy talked a few minutes with the asst. Chief they advised for me to back up to the garage where they held the bike. I backed up and they opened the door and there sat my new ride.. I look across the lot at her in her glory and I see she is got some runs on the lower fairing from the paint job. I thought nahh just seeing stuff from 20 feet away my eyes were playing tricks on me. I move closer see that the runs I saw were indeed runs.. Get even closer see pieces missing, now I am slowing down and looking harder. I move right next to her and she had the left side lower plastic sticking out some. Moved even closer yep plastic was sticking out. Hmm start to look it over more the plastic is missing more where the vent is the vent is broken out. The right side the entire side cover is missing, the front fairing is busted the lower fairing is busted. Where the side cover was missing you could see that the plastic remaining was all broken. Wanting to look at the gas tank to see if it had rust issues I touched the fake tank and it moved. The entire piece was disconnected so I lift it up not disconnected BROKEN. Crap I am thinking reach back to look at the seat to see how bad the connection is broken seat moved. The points the seat connected were broken off and the seat just sat. Apparently the jail convicts had scraped the paint of stating Police and the city name with no regard to the paint. Bike appeared to have been sprayed with a paint can. Side luggage locks would not clamp down on the side covers. Rear luggage scratched all to hell. The tires were decent other then little dryrot. The Class had been disconnected and was not working, the battery is dead which was expected, the stereo was missing button that appeared to have been broken off, the front windshield had some film on it where when I wet my finger I could not wipe it off. Appeared like maybe they used acetone or something to clean it with the last time it was cleaned and then gotten dirty on top of the wipe marks. Chiel saw I was not happy with what I thought I was paying a premium price for on a bike alledged to have 4000 miles on it. The bike I learned from the chief was purchased by the dept in 1991-92 wasn't positive exactly but either way they claim at that time the bike had 2 miles on it. The condition of the bike appeared to have been ridden hard, laided down to rot and then picked up out of the field to be sold. NOT what I felt I was buying. Chief also advised that "when we tried to have the bike fixed at the yamaha shop they were not able to get it running". I told chief I was not expecting a new bike but that at least a bike that needed carbs worked on due to varnish or gumming from a bike alledged to have 4000 miles on it not a bike I was going to have to strip down and rebuild from scratch. He asked me what I would pay for it and I told him honestly... I dont think I want to pay anything for it. He agreed to release me from the sale and not charge me a penalty. This he agreed to since the bike is listed as a 1984 actually is a 1986 and listed as 1100cc and it is a 1300cc. Bottom line Didn't buy it he did tell me he was sorry that I traveled from the Poconos down to pick it up and for it not being what I expected.
  6. OK folks, the good news is that I have just completed the initial installation of the newest software here for the site. It seems to have gone pretty well. Now obviously you will notice some things that are missing. I will be working on the site for most of the night but the downtime should be over. Please be patient as I work at restoring missing features and ironing out any bugs that may show up.

  8. I looked through the thread(s) here on xenon lights and figured a changeover would run me 150-200 bucks. Is this the same thing everyone's talking about, or am I missing the fine print? http://www.jcwhitney.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Product?storeId=10101&Pr=p_Product.CATENTRY_ID%3A2014567&TID=8014524F&TID=8014524F&productId=2014567&catalogId=10111 Appreciate comments/advice. Thanks.
  9. Anyone succesfully repaired 1st Gen radio buttons and how did you go about doing it? I'm not missing any button covers but not all my buttons work.
  10. I'm hoping someone can help me with this. I was able to aquire a CB and amp etc out of a 90 VR to put into my 84 which comes with nothing. I got the AMP, the CB, front and rear controllers and SOME of the wiring. It appears I am missing something. Not sure how this goes together. I have one hole open on the AMP that has to go to one of the headsets. I have a wire with split in it that looks to go to the front and a headset can be plugged into it as well as a hand mic (which I got as well) but it dosen't have a wire to plug into coming from the AMP. This is the wire I think I'm missing. I also don't seem to have anything to plug the controllers into. There is a 3 point plug part way down the one cable that I do have coming from the AMP but the plug isn't the same. Question is can someone tell me what I need. Point by point what gets plugged into what so I can look for the missing parts. (maybe someone might even have the missing parts??) Any help would be appreciated... Wayne
  11. If somebody wants this bike whole this is the last chance before I tear her down and sell it in pieces. It need tires, fork seals, exhaust leaks from bottom and the seat has a seam that has come apart in the front. There is also a piece of the front faring missing about two inches around. Motor runs rough. 1200.00 takes it whole or it's comming apart next week and hitting ebay.
  12. Today our motorcycle ministry is riding to deliver gifts to underprivleged childlren who wont have a Christmas, this is the third year we have been doing this, and its really fantastic to see the looks on the kids faces when a group of leather wearing motorcyclists arrive at their front door and deliver gifts to them. They dont know its happening in advance so its really a big surprise to them when we show up..........BUT, a nasty stomach virus has me down for the count, so Im missing the ride of the year..............:crying:
  13. I have a 97 royal star classic with 35000 miles on it. I have had it for 2 weeks and have put over 1000 miles on it. I upgraded from a v-star 650. I love the ride and have learned so much from the site. It appears to be missing or vibrating on a moderate throttle (I have been at 50mph in 3rd, 70 in 4th and still notice it). It is noticible when giving throttle from an idle while in neutral also) I have put two sets of plugs in, synced the carbs (to the best of my abilities), checked the resistance on the plug caps(all about 10k and have just ordered new ones based on info from this site as I am getting some ignition noise when listening to the radio on the head set). When I increase the throttle through mid range, it appears to be missing. I have ran a can of seafoam through it. I have adjusted the idle mixture screws. I removed the air cleaner cover and moved the slides back and let them go. The slides for cyl 1&2 return slowly, the slides for 3&4 come back much quicker. I have not pulled the the diaphagms to check for holes. At cruising speeds (high rpms) it seems to run fine. At an Idle. all cycinders are fireing and all plugs appear to be burning clean. Would the shimming of the slides help this? I was reading several posts that were discouraging. Comment about not doing anything to this model year and instead selling it to get a 2002 or newer. Is this the case for this bike? I am not looking for a dragster, just a comfortable dependable ride. I know I am rambeling. any helpful hints would be appreciated.
  14. Besides a few screws loose. Lone Eagle made a present to me of the diamond R light bars as he had an extra set due to a mistake at the dealership installing his. (How fortunate for me) However I must be missing something as they contact the top of the muffler before lying flat ont the saddlebag mount. Do you have to lower the muffler?
  15. Dumb question? maybe. I don't care. I was forced into swapping my antennae out this week when I noticed the old one had gone AWOL. The mast came right out of the base. I was in the middle of about 1000 bikes on the local charity run. At one of the rest stops, I went to get a bottle of waqter out of the trunk and thought "Gee, looks like somethings missing." Once I figured out what was missing I thought, "Gee, I hope it didn't hit anybody." Here's what I've accomplished so far: My Father has an old Goldwing sitting in his garage with a firestik on it, so I borrowed that. If I can't get it dialed in I still have to buy one, but a good place to start. Bad news is, that since he took the radio stuff out years ago, he snipped the cable at the base, so that was no good. However, i work two miles down the road from a truck stop, so I wemt shopping after work. Found a cable with the one end already set up for the antenna for around 8 bucks, got the PL259 to motorola adapter for 3 bucks and picked up what seems to be a pretty sturdy fold -over adapter for another 8, I might not use that, they had another quick release adapter that allows full removal of the antenna for the same price. I think I like that idea better now that I think about it, but it will depend on where the antenna ends up in the folded position. So far, so good. Under 20 bucks spent and only another 20 to spend IF I can't get the SWR right on this antenna ( it's an older one without the quick adjust screw). BUT.....I can't figure out how the seat comes off to run the cable. I also want to install the brake light modulator my dad gave me while I'm in there. So What's the secret?
  16. Got a question. My bike is missing on one cylinder. Changed out the coil and the wire and of course the plug, but still have the problem. Is the ignition controlled by the computor or is there something else to check?
  17. I'm fixing up a 200l RSV salvage I picked up on Ebay. The bike was dumped and there was mostly cosmetic damage. I've been using Plastex to fix broken and missing tabs and mending cracks. This stuff works great!
