  1. Met Jerry, whose 2007 is ALMOST as pretty as my 2009. Nice to meet a fellow SoCal Venturer. Thought it was a HD from 1/4 mile back, then got next to him, gave a courtesy wave and SHOCK!! We puled into a Starbucks and enjoyed a cold one. Haven't seen another Venture on the road down here. Hope he sees this thread and responds... Kevin
  2. I don't have any flashing trees or reindeer noses to send out, but I would like to wish everyone a merry CHRISTMAS!!! I'd like to thank Don for this website and all the people I've met through it during the year! Take Care and God bless us in 2009! Ken & Jackie Wasielak
  3. I met AKRefugee (Keven) Saturday and we had a good ride with some Friends of mine. What started as a ride for 3 bikes ended up with 6 bikes and 10 people. The weather was great not too cold just brisk. It looks like I may have a new riding partner during the weekdays. Thanks Rod
  4. evertime i come on the site ,which is about 10 times a day i see members on line that have never or rarely ever post. don't sit on the side lines jump in and get your feet wet. i'm sure everyone on here would love to here from you. we have almost 6000 members.it would really be wild if we could get most of them to participate. i have met some really good people, and made close friends with alot of the people on here and some of them i have never met face to face. so jump in and join the fun. we need you. bill
  5. I just returned from Buddyrichs House and he helped me(actually he did all the work),install his cable to have my phone, both hearing and mic, integrated to work in my headsets..IT WORKS GREAT!!!!! I had to talk to all my friends on the way home and ALL said it was quiet as a mouse on the receiving end..Again Buddy Thank You VERY much..As far as you all who have never met him,Ive only met him 3 times,he is a GENIOUS on electrical,I learned ALOT from him! For those who say they dont need a GPS,Try finding his house on a map! Thanks Again Buddy,Tom
  6. Met up with Ediddy today at the local stealer, we talked bikes and VR and just killed some time, then we took a ride over to the HD stealer and looked around there for a few minutes and walked out in shock after looking at the prices for those new models...........Way too much cash for any bike, IMHO. We then went to lunch at Mc D's and just happened to miss the rain storm that started after we got there so we sat and talked some more till that stopped. Now in case anyone is looking for a good deal on a used RSV, they had a Liquid Sliver one on the floor, loaded with all sorts of chrome goodies, upgraded speakers, power amp, with just 16,000 miles if I remember right, bike looked fantastic, they took it in on a trade for a GW. The salesman stated they would take $12,000.00 for it. Wish it would have been there when I bought my VStar, I could have paid a little more and had it instead. If your interested its located at Cycle City Power Sports in Newnan, Ga. It was good seeing Ediddy again, I last saw him in Tifton, Ga. when we did the Venture West/East Coast version and rode through the dirt...................Looking forward to meeting up with you again Eddy. Its great meeting up with other members on any occasion, we even talked about the VR family and how grand it is to have all these friends. And thanks again for the travel bag Eddy. It will get much use in the near future.

    Warning!

If you ever plan on ever attending the Pork in the Pines Rally event I just want to warm you! You will meet some of the best people in the western hemisphere if not the world. Since this was my first (as stated on other post as being a Virgin) I realy had no idea what to expect. Finally convince the wife to go because she "didn't know anyone" I told her that it's all good and that I was going and she needed to commit. Well she did. At the rally I met people from Wisconsin, Montana, Canada (eh), and people from all over Minnesoata. If you ever go be prepare to have some of the best pork roast on the planet. Be prepared to be made at home and that you have always been part of the familly. Be prepared to meet people and be treated like long lost friends. Be prepared to have all barriers and preconcieved notions errased and meet some realy nice and real people. Like Rick said he has friends allover the country there isn't a place he can't go where he won't be asked to stay with the people. That is how I felt at the PiP. Met new friends and learned a whole lot of stuff about me. We sat around the camp fire and laughed and laughed and told stories and our best lies. Met new friends and renewed old ones. Ate and drank and spread good cheer. I sincerly want to thank all who organized this rally all who attended. I feel like I have just made many new friends and now have the face to go with the name. My final warning is this guy named Wildhare ever shows up, becarefull. He is a good ol boy from east Texas and that man is a riding fool. He puts more miles on in a month than a lot of people put on in years. He is a real character and I am damn proud to call him my friend. The Canadan Crew were a great bunch of guys and gals and trust me they know how to party. And lastly Thanks to Gary and Ann for allowing a bunch a crazies to share there home and shop and homested. So my final warning is if you weren't there you really missed it. Thanks all!
  8. I was standing at the sink a bit ago washing some dishes and just thinking..day dreaming.. started thinking about all the awesome things people from this site have done for others, the way they help expecting nothing in return, the way they dig in their sometimes empty pockets to help someone else in need...the way they arent afraid to ask for prayers when they have a issue in their life or the way they arent ashamed to share problems and fears and illness and happiness and sadness with everyone here. some people here i have never met or may never meet, but they have touched my life.....I have cried here, laughed here, even gotten mad here ..Ive lost special people from here..been inspired from here... I have met some of the most awesome people in the world ! I just felt the need to thank you Don.....and everyone else here for all the laughs and the fun times and friends Ive made and things ive gotten to do and be part of because of this. ok you may now return to the regular scheduled program........ .....geez its tough being menopausal..your emotions sometimes control you......
  9. met this younger guy as he was pulling up to a convenience store. he was on an '02, v-star1100. he said a "buddy, didn't like the way it handled, ".and just GAVE it to him! i offered him 4 times what he paid for it, and he turned me down! can you imagine a guy turning down a 400% profit??? lol just jt
  10. Met Eyehook yesterday when he and his wife came by the house. Turns out my wife knew him for about a year at work as they always talked about our dogs on break. The world dont get any smaller than that. He just purchased a 1986 Royale, Black and Uschi. Looks to be in excellent shape with 47k on the clock. Im sure he will post some pics soon. That was a hint, Larry.....
  11. Well I rolled in to the homestead at 10:00PM last night with 15 hours on the bike (not counting gas breaks and eating). Pulled a trailer from North Branch MN to Denver then up to the Black Hill of North Dakota then over across the plans to Home. I met Daryle and his nice wife in Larchwood Iowa on the way out and I met BigJohn in Denver. On the way home I met OB-1 and his nice wife up in Sundance Wy, We all went out to dinner together and shot the BS. All were VERY nice people and all love bikes and especialy Ventures. So whats not to like????? I spent a day hacking around the Black Hills, saw Mount Rushmore, drove the canyon (not to miss) but unfortunatly didn't get to the Neddles canyon and where ever the buffalo are. Sorry I didn't call OB-1 to go for a ride for the day but I just hacked around locally and was going here and there without a real plan. I was fortunate that I never really hit rain on the way out or on the way back, some sprinkles but no out and out rain. Well I take that back, while I was visiting with Daryle and his wife I rained like cats and dogs but since I was visiting and indoors I didn't count that. It cleared and I was able to get another 100 miles on before calling it a day. All the way out and all the way back no matter who I talked to, biker, shop keeper, cagers, cashiers they were all just great, friendly and polite. EXCEPT the one cashier in Cheyene WY that had a personality of of a cornered bobcat with someone poking it with a stick. I finally had enough of her being rude to all the customers ahead of me and when she pulled that crap on me I told her she needed to get a personality. As I walked away I mumbled to myself what a B!tch, I thought I heard from behind " I heard that". While I hope she did mabey she will get a handle on waiting on people. Yes I know it can be a SOB dealing with people all day but she needed to treat people a whloe lot better. OH YA! the equipment failure....... Well.... when I was in Nebraska getting lost I noticed that my rear tire was looking thin so when I got to Denver I had it replaced at Coyote Yamaha. they put on a Dunlope 404 and the bonus was the whine from the original tire disapeared to. But that wasn't the failure........ the failure was while in the Black hills I had to use my Strebel horn on a cager. Well it sounded ok for a split second or so then it sounded like it was being strangled (and still does) I havn't used it much and am diasapointed that a failure of this type occurs after a less than 10 seconds total use. So thats my story and I'm sticking to it! I am spending the day recovering from yesterdays ride. Good to be back and safe riding to all who are on the road. Bubber aka Steve Stelter

  13. Beautiful day today so I played hookie and decided to go for a ride, contacted one of our members, "Pilot" from Delaware and asked if he would be interested in getting together for lunch, he said he was free, so I headed the 130 miles to our meeting point. I had originally planned on treating him to lunch at a rest. but once I got down there he insisted on taking me back to his place and he fired up the grill, we sat around and swapped the bull had a great lunch and then he rode about an hr north with me on my ride home. Jim is a great guy and his wife treated me like family, it just amazes me how friendly the people are on this site, Arent alot of places in this world where you can contact a person you never met, get together for lunch swap a few stories and feel as though you connected. Thanks again Jim for your hospitality, and thanks Don for starting this group. Geez 20 more years of this, and I could be Lowell Jr. Craig
  14. Rode my bike from Don's house to Toledo on Sunday and met a guy that says he used to be a member on here awhile back. Said his name was LA Ray on the site. 15. Today I met with stvmaier, Steve and his wife were real nice people. They are from Illinois passing through Mobile. We met at Ruby Tuesday and sat in airconditioning for a while to cool off and talk. Nice to meet other Venture riders from all over the US. Wish I was going their way on a ride like theirs, all the was to West Virginia then back to Illinois, must be nice!! tew47:bighug:
  16. It's with a very heavy heart that I let you all know of the passing of a great friend and brother. Many of you who are PGR members may know the name "Deltoid" GA Ride Captain. Mike Bland was one of the finest people I've ever met and one of the few I would consider a true friend. He lived with no compromise. A Marine to the end Mike died of a brain tumor Friday night without a wimper. Through months of deteriorating health he never complained and continued to make people around him laugh and feel good about themselves. I will really miss him. I bought Mike a Venture Guardian Bell last Christmas in the hopes that there would be a miracle and Mike would ride again. He has an '07 Midnight Venture and was a member here even though I don't think he ever posted. He liked to read a lot of the tech stuff. Mike was cremated Saturday and we will have a memorial service later this week. the Guardian Bell will be attached to his urn and protect him on his final ride. I wish you all could have known him. He would have fit in perfectly with the great group of people I have met here. Thanks for the friendship and the miles Mike. I will miss you.
  17. So, I put the tags on, changed oil, filter, and seafoamed the fuel. Took off and proceeded to run 1 1/2 tanks of fuel through today. Come out to 366 miles. Went to Austin on the interstate, over to Canyon Lake, went and met JRichard, then went to Perdenales State park. Met some Valkyrie riders and rode with a few Harleys. Mocha is running top notch. After the SeaFoam and Marvel mystery oil in the crankcase the idle went from 950 to 1100. Gonna change plugs and put in synthetic this week. Bought a set of Morgan carbtune II's just to finish it off. Looking forward to next weekend and more hill country. Oh for the northern folks, my thermometer registered 78 in the back yard today. JRichard-you missed a great ride!!! JB
  18. I'm just getting in from a wonderful 150+ mile solo ride through the gorgeous farmlands east and south of Atlanta. It was a beautiful day with lots of sunshine and strong winds. The temperature hit the low 40s, but the wind chill dropped that another 8 degrees. Of course, that doesn't count for what I call "bike chill", which is the additional 10 degree drop you experience at 75 mph! So, that's a good start to the New Year! I sincerely hope and wish for a healthy, joyous, and prosperous 2008 for all of my great friends on this forum, those I've met and those I haven't met yet! Terry
  19. Communicating over the 'net has certainly proven to be a really good method to get to know a person without really knowing them and more specifically, without knowing what they look like. I'm sure each of us has had a time when they've met someone and instantly either liked them or disliked them within the first 5 seconds. That's a strange phenomena. Then, after communicating with that person for a while, especially the one they didn't like... ya found the person was really quite nice. I know for a lot of you, you've met each other or at least seen a pic (as I have from viewing pics posted here). For many of us though, we have no idea of what everyone looks like so I thought it might be interesting to have a place on this site where we can post pics of our selves (other than our pic gallery). More like a common place where we can see everyone. Any thoughts/input on this...maybe we have this already and I just haven't found it? Maybe Freebird can create a "Picture Gallery" for this?
  20. Here's to those we know, Those we knew, And those we never met. Thank you for all you've done or do. Have a safe Veterans Day.
  21. Met Larry a '89 Venture rider comming out of WalMart today. He just moved here from Ohio. The bike used to be his fathers. Will be going on PG ride with me on Veterans Day. He and his wife are real nice people. He rode it down from Ohio. Lower Alabama is comming up in the world. tew47
  22. They certainly enjoyed everything...I am going miss them...It is still getting to me and I had never met them. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=12939
