  1. I have bought a 2007 Royal Star Tour Deluxe which I haven't picked up yet. In the meantime I have been reading the manual and come across engine break-in period. I have never owned anything new with 0 miles. The manual says avoid prolonged operation over 1/3 throttle in the first 600 miles then avoid prolonged operation over 1/2 throttle to 1000 miles. Basically I understand this to baby the thing for this time. This may be a stupid question but my concern is what is determined to be "prolonged operation"? I have an hour ride with this coming home mostly highway speed. Is an hour considered "prolonged operation"? I ask this cause as the manual states "there is never a more important period in the life of your engine than the period between 0 and 1000 miles". Is there anything else I should watch out for. Thank you in advance for any replies.
  2. We went for a ride today and upon our return I smelled antifreeze. I located the leak by the right rear sparkplug around a plug that looked like it could be tightened with a hex key. I tried to tighten the plug but it didn't turn so I backed off until I can find out what this is. My manual is snuggled up in my warm garage in Tennessee and I'm here is sunny, chilly Florida..I'll appreciate any comments. Thanks.
  3. Hi, Well I got my new to me 2004 Midnight Royal Star Venture home this afternoon from Calgary, AB to Red Deer, AB. Wow! Do I love this bike. I had forgotten how much I enjoy the RSV. There was no owners manual with it but I downloaded the PDF owners manual from here. Thank you very much for that. I have a question. This bike has heated grips. The person I bought the bike from didn't install them. Are they stock or would they have been installed by the original owner? I didn't think the RSV had heated grips. Thank you in advance.
  4. Found the manual link Thank you.
  5. Well, I went to put the bike away for the winter and learned a few things. Last year when I owned the vstar I pulled the seat to hook up the tender and found that I had no battery. Today I pulled the side cover off thinking I was so smart and found fuses. I than pulled the other cover off and found the over flow for the coolant. It was now time to read the manual and discovered that I needed to pull the seat off. Well, since I had the owners manual out I thought that I would look into why the radio or Ipod keeps going in and out. Well most of you probably know by now that the CB radio was on causing the music to go in and out. Oh well, lesson learned; can't wait for spring!
  6. ...for my bike seem to be difficult to come by. It's a 1987 Venture Royale that came with the original owner's manual and a 1983 Service Manual. I know that there were both cosmetic and mechanical changes in 1986, so I would like to have a newer manual, if possible. Neither Haynes nor Clymer show a Venture repair manual on their sites. Does anyone know of a company that has some kind of service or repair manual for the '86 to '93 bikes?
  7. Last weekend, I noticed a mysterious red light come on when I rev limited in 2nd gear. I'd never seen it before, and the manual was inconvenient. So I checked the oil level and was shocked to see that it was at the bottom of the sight glass, and looked rather black. I just changed the oil, and it was black and nasty. Clearly, she burned oil since the last change (about 4000 miles ago). I changed her oil just before my trip to Zion National Park, Four Corners, etc. I towed a trailer on that trip, so 3500 miles of those 4000 were towed. She's never burned any oil (except when I overfilled her, before I realized she took less than the manual). She just rolled over 50,000 miles. What causes a bike to burn oil? Dave
  8. desperately after hand book, as not sure what and how everything works, haynes type manual would be great, thanks in advance:smile5:
  9. I just picked up an EZ-Tach made by Electronic Specialties to help me with my carb sync but I didn't get a manual with it. Does anyone have access to the manual or know where to get one online? I can't seem to find one. It is an Electronic Specialties 325 Cordless Inductive Tachometer Thanks
  10. Got a new to me 06 venture...only yammie manual available...which other model uses the same engine, frame, etc....that the venture uses and has haynes or chylmer manuals available?..what do you all use?....thanks, Mick
  11. Hello, what does the second light down on the left of my 1989 venture royale mean? It kinda looks like a small bulb surrounded by a housing. Does it mean low brake fluid? Or could it mean I have air in my brake lines?? Is it a symbol for a drip of something? I don't have my manual, so I'm at a loss.
  12. I will be installing a GPS unit next week on my '05 RSV. I am looking for the Auxiliary DC jack that the owners manual (3-21) says is "at the front". Is this jack located under a cowling somewhere? The manual shows a picture, but not a good one. Another question is do I want to use that jack or just run the GPS from the battery? Thanks.
  13. Used my carbtune for the first time. 1 & 2 carbs were slightly off. 3 & 4 were even, but there was about 3 difference between the left and right side. Got them adjusted so there all within 1. I noticed there was a lot of bounce on the needles of 1 & 2. 3 & 4 were very steady. Is there something I can do reduce the bounce? Anyone else have this problem? I never thought of changing sides to see if it was the carbs or the guage, until just now. In the carbtune manual it said some adjust the carbs at a high idle. Wondering what most do when syncing?
  14. I know.. I know... this is definately not Bike related... BUT... If I soon don't get this thing fixed, I won't be riding anytime soon. Looking specifically for a free online download. Ebay sells service manual for around $200. I've seen them online but can't find the links anymore. Am having Hydraulics problems in the outriggers and need to tear apart.
  15. I have an owners manual for a '98 shadow spirit for anyone who wants it. No takers will send it to the trash.
  16. The hubby put a new battery in the 05 Venture and now our head sets don't work.....I tried finding a thread about the subjet but didn't find anything....anyway, the hubby has been swamped and hasn't had time to read the manual. My question is...when you change the battery, does he need to reset the radio/speakers/etc? and if so is it easy? Thanks Deb
  17. ... is there any way that you could put a direct link to the ‘new’ members public profile when you post the “Welcome” message? That way if they don’t post a reply to the welcome message we could still learn a little about who’s coming on board by clicking on the link. It would save having to do a manual search through the Community members list... or am I just getting lazy? (you don't have to answer to the "lazy" part )
  18. I'm trying to buy an owners manual for my 1989 venture royale and the site is asking me if it is a XVC13DW or XVC13DWC model--anyone know the difference and how can I tell the model I have????
  19. I'm looking for an owners manual for a 1989 Venture Royale---Any suggestions??---Thanx:bang head:

  21. Can anyone steer me in the right direction,I need a new service manual for my 1985 Venture. It as cone missing over the winter ,and there are no signs of it. All so Iam thinking of changeing out my antifreeze with something better.Like Royal Purple,or some other product that will help keep things a little cooler. Ant suggestions would be appreciated. And last what is the total amount of antifreeze in the bike system... Thank you Stan
  22. OK, so it's not Venture related, and a shot in the dark... My grandson picked up an '89 Ninja 600 basket, and I wonder if anyone here might know where I could find a downloadable service manual in PFD like we have available here for the Ventures. I tried a search, but couldn't find anything. Any help would be apreciated.
  23. Did I read somewhere that the 2ndGens have a cigarette lighter power plug??? Or was I halucinating again..... I didn't see any reference to one in the owners manual.... but I'm pretty sure I've run across posts about it... Never mind I found it..... Sorry for the dry run...
  24. Please help! On the way down to Panama City yesterday my low beam went out along with the driving lights. I still have the high beam, and the headlight fuse is OK. Does anyone have any thoughts or suggestions before I search for the dealer here? Also, if the bulb simply needs changed, how do I do that? The owner's manual and the service manual are not much help...
  25. A huge thanks to Saltydog for converting this manual to a .pdf file and making it available for all our VentureRider members. He says it is a good resource for members needing troubleshooting and operating instructions for the Yamaha CB radio. It is a good source for all the part numbers. You can right click on the link and then "save as" to download it to your computer. [/url]http://www.venturerider.org/cbinstall/venturecb.pdf
