2. 2003 Midnight Venture studded seat. Best glue used to repair small area of torn leather/pulled seams? Is it even possible? Damage located on seam just where it should get lots of abuse from mount/dismount. Any advice/experience? Thanks!

4. I currently own a Kawasaki 1600 Classic, it's not the best bike for two-up rides, it's a little bit shy on power for this purpose IMHO and the brakes and shocks aren't cutting it either. Don't get me wrong, she's been a good bike but maybe not the best thing for hauling two people comfortably. I might keep it as my own ride and get something else for two-up. I'll admit that I was kind of feeling the tug of the Harley Glides but the price is certainly up there, the reasonable side of my brain just can't come to terms with laying out that much cash for a motorcycle. They're nice bikes alright, but not that nice! And while there's a side of me that wouldn't mind being part of the big HD family out there on the road, another side of me wants to buck this idea completely because I'd probably feel like a lemming for letting social pressure influence my choice of a bike. Believe me, I've wrestled with this on and off for a couple of years but I'm now pretty sure that the non-HD side is winning this war in my head. While I've never had the chance to ride a Venture, I've got a feeling that for two-up touring, a V-4 would be better then any bike with a V-twin anyway, no matter what brand. So, I've tried to hone in on what might be the best touring bike for me, which one ticks all the boxes, or most of the boxes. The new Vulcans are out because they're V-twins, and I've read enough reviews that were less then excited about Kawasaki's newest offerings. Plus, there's not much of a dealership network for Kawasaki here right now anyways, so they're out. There's always the Goldwing but I'm not keen on the overall look of that bike, it pretty much leaves me cold in that department. Plus, it's really pricey! Even used, they're way too much money. So, that lead me to the Yamaha Royal Star Venture. Really nice looking bike, seems to be of the highest quality too. It feels quite luxurious when you sit on it. I find it a tad top-heavy but I'm six feet tall, so I should be able to get used to it. The hardbags and trunk are super high quality. Actually, it seems that the total carrying capacity of the Venture is exactly the same as the Harley Glides. So, lots of storage capacity! It also seems to look a bit better then the Harley, especially when looking at the back end, the saddlebags and trunk don't look boxy like the Harley's. Like I already said, I guess I just can't see any sense in spending a small fortune on a motorcycle when you don't have to. The Venture is a LOT of bike and luckily, doesn't come with an inflated price. It just looks to me that the Venture is probably the best deal out there for a touring bike. It's a beautiful looking bike, performs very well, is super reliable, has a great track record, lots of them around, lots of Yamaha dealers around and is priced for the common man. Hooray!!! Can you tell that I'm really impressed with these bikes?!
5. I have an Ultra Classic, and it may be different from an RSV I'm not sure. When my wife and I are using the intercom if I adjust the VOX all the way, so conversation is automatic (instead of having to push the PTT button. I get lots of static. If I turn the VOX down a little everything is fine except we have to push to talk which is a PIA. Can anybody shed some light on what might be the problem?
6. Our "FALL-HUR-RAH" Rally went real good lots of good food and fun!!! Here is the photo show. http://www.photoshow.com/watch/FJ4wv9yf PHILL
7. Looking for opinions of Consumer Cellular. I need to find a new plan for the mothers and on the surface this looks ok. They charge on incoming and outgoing, but the old women don't use cells much, so that's ok. Lots of complaints on the web, but you can find lots of comlaints about ice cream if you look close enough. Anybody actually using this company? Thoughts?
8. Finally got are enhanced license, so we are going to Alexandria bay for the weekend. We would like any help on stuff to see or do on the Canadian side of the boarder. Also how is the 401 to ride on ( lots of traffic ) compared to RT2. Thanks Nyjerry
9. actually Naperville is where I'll be Friday around lunch time. Of course Chicago style pizza comes to mind, but what else would you consider that is only or the best is available in the Chicago area? Chicago style hot dogs has been suggested, too. I found Giordano's and Lou Malnati's pizza in Naperville rated very highly. Also Portillo's Hot Dogs looks promising. I'm getting really hungry now!!! Also, do you know a good pawn shop with lot's of guitars? Or a music store that has lot's of used equipment? I'm flying my 50 year old Fender Super Amp up there Friday to have it repaired and serviced at Victoria Amps. Brother gets me buddy passes, so flying it up there is not much more than shipping it and it can't get lost or destroyed! Should be a nice adventure. Thanks, James
10. if you need something fun to do next weekend check out the hub rally on the calender 29th, 30th, and 31st. great riding and lots of commeraderie. and you will get to meet some very special people. ( fellow venture riders). :clap2:
11. a fellow is supposed to pick up my zx14 tomorrow. the wing is next to go. it's an 08 with 14,000 miles and loaded with all the extra goodies including a hitch that has never been used. well over $21,000 invested ,ridden in rain once, looks like new. dark red metallic. premium audio. lots of chrome and neat things. pm me if interested. swifty, this ones for you. lol:2133: ps. please help me retire again.

13. Peggy and I are just back from a five-day vacation in Townsend, Tn. Went up just to ride the mountains for a few days. Had some very heavy rain for two days but the sun did come out eventually for the afternoon hours and we got in plenty of riding. We rode through Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg. Lots of tourists even midweek. It is beautiful beyond words there, even in bad weather and the pictures do not do it justice. Had some slight issues with the trailer that had to be resolved. Fortunately, it fits through the door so it spent several nights in the hotel room with us!! Rode home today through the park to Cherokee and lots of back roads most of the way. Hope you enjoy the pictures.

15. I'm looking for a good store to check out helmets--anyone know of one that has lots of options?
16. Since I now have Collector plates on my bike I decided to stop at a local car show last night since I was riding by. Lots of neat toys to look at. And won a free dinner in the raffle. Missed the $50 gas card by 1. There was a custom trike there that was made from the back half of a Pontiac Fiero GT and a motorcycle front end to make a trike out of it. Lots of custom fiberglass to bring it all together and then it was painted a burnt metallic orange. Sorry but I did not have my camera with me. At one point I noticed a group of people standing by my bike arguing, so I wandered over to see what was going on. Turns out they were arguing about what year Gold Wing I used as a base to build this custom bike that I had. They could not / would not believe that was a stock Yamaha, even with all of the Yamaha logos.
17. Just installed my Trunk Organizer today. Very easy install and actually a pretty nice little luxury to have in the trunk there. Actually, it takes up little space and fits the contours of the trunk pretty well (by using velcro). I was very pleased with this addition and it will keeps LOTS of neat little things at my fingertips. Here is a link to where I purchased it ($34.95): http://www.americanmotorcycleaccessories.com/proddetail.asp?prod=AMA0790 Here are few pics.
18. See Link: http://www.tachyoninc.com/HTML%20Manuals/2010%20XC%20English%20Manual%20HTML.html Hope to have this in 2 weeks or so. I done LOTS of Research and this should be on your research list too for consideration.
19. I'm a relatively new member and Venture owner, and I just wanted to say thanks to everyone here. Over the past week I did some winter projects on the Venture that include: passing lamp install using Freebird's wiring diagram for the relay and Tony Dathan's spacer, an auxillary fuse panel behind the battery like several members suggested, Goose's carb heater switch, Goose's fix for the broken windshield bracket tabs (yes, broken tabs with only 3400 miles), and CarbonOne's bracing for the front crash guards. All of your postings on these issues saved me lots and lots of time and money, and for this I am thankful. In addition ... I am thankful that today I got to ride for a couple of hours! It was mostly sunny, upper 30s, 5-10 mph wind ... awesome!! Art Thomas, aka "sallys dad":thumbsup2::thumbsup2:
20. Got off at 3PM today and ran home to go for a ride. Hit 40 today with the sun shining. The DC is finally seeing a little bit of a warm up. I only went out for an hour but boy did it feel good. Lots of salt and sand on the roads, at least along the sides so taking it easy is required in the turns but at least I was riding. Oh yeah, did I mention I got to ride today.
21. I've just purchased a Nuvi 780 which has MP3 capabilities. I was just wondering where most of you guys got your MP3 audio from. I have well over 1000 songs in Itunes, but it is my understanding that those files will only work on my IPod. Is that correct. I've tried Limewire, but that stupid thing carries lots of bugs and really slows the puter down as it wants to run all the time. I'm sure there has to be a good place to get the songs I want.
22. I had the bike on the lift to do some repairs and noticed a small 3/16" deep slice/gash in the sidewall. of my Elite II. I recently replaced a virtually new Avon due to a nail that friends convinced me to replace... Dang, this is getting old. It says the sidewall is 3 plies. Still lots of tread on this sucker. I know I should probably replace it and be safe but are the wife and I really worth the expense? I'm in a dither with this......thoughts!
23. And maybe some more. Finally bought a new stable and a house to go with it. Marca is happy and Eric & family are ready to take over living in the old homestead. Closing is mid October, then some time for refreshments,,,and upgrades,,,,, and then we hope to settle in about mid November. Three car garage with 2 doors, will be lots of room to fix and repair, back yard big enough to make a campgound, with more room in the side yard. Even room for a BBQ. Now where to park some bikes,,,,, maybe the neighbours will like me after all.
24. We just got back from the Smoky Mountains. 1700+ miles round trip. We rode the Dragon 3 times, saw lots of deer and wild bear at Cade's Cove, rode practically every mountain road in the National Park and Foothills Parkway along with the Cherohala Skyway. We had a great trip other than my wife having a fender bender with a truck that stopped at a green light - she is ok but her bike has a few scuffs and scratches. It was absolutely beautiful country - we've seen it lots of times before but not from our bikes.
25. I just completed the TVA Fire Academy last week, and when I got home, my defenses were down. I had been home about 2 hours Friday, when the flu hit me hard. Everyone seems to think it was the H1N1, but not positive. I was shivering like crazy, and my temp kept trying to hang around 103 degrees F. I had a bad headache, swollen glands in my neck, sore throat, and overall weakness. I didn't freak out. I drank LOTS of cold water, used ice packs, and took lots of Ibuprofen....and I waited it out. After the third time of sweating it out, the fever went away, and hasn't returned. I still have a bit of a sore throat and headache, but I think they will pass with time also. The important thing is...I kept my butt at home, and didn't go out spreading it around. What a way to spend my Labor Day weekend. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-sad.gif
