  1. What kind of tire pressure are people running on your 1st generations? My bike has the Elite III's, don't have the manual.
  2. After GeorgeS posted the link on the superstore front tire , I ordered one last week and received it yesterday. It was a total of about $102 including shipping. Thanks George. I put it on last night and just using the axle and jackstands, I balanced it myself. I had to take two weights off the wheel that was on the Avon to get it where I wanted it. I usually remove and replace my own tires as I like to clean the wheel and check the valve stem, but this was the most difficult tire I have ever mounted. It seems to have a much more stiff sidewall. After putting over 200 miles on it today, I can say that I do like it. At first I felt I had lost just a little of the agility that the Avon had, but now I feel it is little better balanced over all. I have had an Elite III on the back since last summer and feel the bike was more stable on the back than the Avon. One thing I did notice was the Elite III is at least an inch taller than the Avon and to me that does make a little difference with my short inseam. RandyA
  3. If I were to purchase front and rear Dunlop Elite II RWL tires, will I be getting an older tire? What I mean is now that Dunlop is making the Elite IIIs, have the Elite IIs just been sitting around someones warehouse for a very long time just waiting for some unaware person to take them off their hands. I really like RWLs and since RWLs are not available in the Elite IIIs, I am almost forced to buy Elite IIs. Too bad Avon doesn't make RWL in any on their tire models. So, I guess my question is if I buy Elite IIs am I buying new tires that are no longer made and are already very aged when I get them new? Any advise?
  4. My "what are the differences" post has kind of splintered off to talk of tires so I thought I would start a new thread about tires for gen 1 ventures. I have a 1989 VR and the existing size tires are Front 120/90-18, and Rear 140/90-16. I have searched the site and haven't found the definitive answers I've been looking for so I'll pose them here. 1. Where is the best place to buy tires (best, not necessarily the cheapest)? I'm not afraid to install the tires, and I'm not afraid of shopping online either. 2. I have decided to go with the Dunlop elite 3, but I can't find a vendor that lists the 140/90-16 online. Is there another size that firts correctly? Southwest Moto doesn't list the size tires I need in the elite 3 model. 3. From what I have read and found there isn't an Elite 3 in a 120/90-18 size for the front so what is the best option? Pirelli, Dunlop 404, or Avon (if Avon what is the correct size, and tire model name?) I am a rookie to street bikes, therefore I do not anticipate being too aggressive on the road. With this in mind, I don't need the "ultimate" performance tires, but I do want good solid tires. If possible lay this out like I'm 3 years old, and don't know diddly about purchasing a tire. Thanks for the help! Chris
  5. I just installed a set of Elite 3's on my 07 RSV. I only got 8,300 miles on the stock Bridgestones, didn't like them anyway. First impressions of the Elite 3's, in stock sizes, F&R: Low speed handling much improved, great on pavement with rain grooves, seems to hold the road much better in curves, corners alot better, also they don't growl like the Bridgestones. All in all they handle alot better than the OEM Bridgestones. Also I bought them through SW Moto. Blaine seemed easy to work with, the whole transaction went quit well. I'll keep you updated on my impressions as I get more miles on them. Only got to put on about 100 miles today, but so far so good.
  6. I was using the Dunlop Elite 3 on the rear and ordered an Elite 3 for the front to use when the Elite 2 wears out. After 6 months the order had not been filled. Apparently the Dulop Elite 2 is no longer being made and the Elite 3 is not available. I cancelled my order. My question is what is the next best tires for my 86 Venture? Should I order Metzlers or something else?
  7. I was just wondering if anyone has ran the Dunlop Elite IIIs on their Venture. I called a Yamaha dealer to ask if he had any 404s in stock and he advised he would not mount them on the Venture. He said on a bike that size he would only mount Elite IIIs. I told him that the 404s were the recommended tire, and he advised that his conscience would not allow him to send someone off on a Venture with 404s under it. I've ran 404s with no problem.
  8. I'm getting ready to change a back tire on my 07 RSV in about 2,000 more miles. I want to go with the Dunlop Elite 3 and was wondering what kind of mileage to expect. Or would I get more mileage out of an Avon?
  9. After reading the threads on the Elite III, I am wondering if there is any concerns with mixing an Avon on the front that looks almost new with 10,000 miles on it and an Elite III on the back of my 83? The Avon on the back is beginning to get a little shallow on the center of the tire grooves. I noticed this when I was walking around it when it was laying on it's side. I really do like how the Avons feel, but I am not sure I want another Avon on the back with the 75mph and above rear end wobble. I have not done the homework as far as finding out if one is bias or radial. RandyA
  10. I went to Dunlop main web site: They list the Elite 3, in MR90-18 Front, and MU90-16 Rear. I checked several on line dealers, but nobody seems to have the new front Elite 3 as yet. Anybody know if they are available someplace ??
  11. well thanks to Bongobob, i now have my new Dunlop elite 3 on the rear of our 86. (i have an Avon Venom on the front) what a nice ride, tracks straight, rides quiet. cheers, Scott
  12. My '86 Royale came with a new Elite II rear tire. The front tire should be replaced and I'd like to switch to Venoms. Is it safe to run a Venom on the front and leave the new Elite II on the rear? Thanks, Gary

    Lost It

Guess everyone has their day, so mine was today. Was on my way to the dealers to arrange for new skins, that was after new Avons yesterday. So it was, that somehow, somewhere, somebody misattached the saddle bag to the side of the scoot and off she came at 120, that about the speed that floppy happens with the Avons, so now it's Elete II for a try. Tried for Elite III but they don't seem to be available so that's it, new tyres and now we need a new saddle bag, right side , outside only, brown. Any one have one to sell, I'd be interested. Carl
  14. First long ride whit new Dunlop Elite 3 whit smaller size in front , never will go back to standard size in front and no more Brickstones tires . It's a smoother ride and having the front tire smaller does improve handling , the bike seems lighter the only thing wrong whit it is riding on cracked pavement and we do have a lot of it around here but never the lest i do have more pros than cons . Thanks to all of you who already tried this mod and communicated it to others . Now I am convinced .
  15. Well, finally was able to go for a ride this morning ,after a long winter . Just could not wait to go for a ride whit these new tires. Man what a difference ,smooth ride even whit a 39 lb in front and 41 lb rear , will never go back to those Brickstones , they don't last so long and are as hard as rock . Got these Elite 3 from your side of the border ,had them installed at a performance shop around here . Now let's hope they will last longer than the OEM ones .
  16. Hi, Time to replace the Dunlop Elite II tires on my 1st Gen 83 VR. before my long summer tour out west....I've looked at some of the previous posts and am wondering between the seeminly ever popular Venoms loved by lots on here, the Elite III's , The Conti-tour and The Michelin Commander.. SW motor Tires and American Motorcycle Tires seem to have the best prices.. Any words of wisdom or warning concerning the above? Thanks, Clay
  17. Any recommendations where I can buy a front Dunlop Elite II online, from a place where they haven't been sitting around for years on the shelf? I put new Elite II's on last year & just getting ready for another trip & noticed a small cut in the sidewall...I don't "think" it's a big deal, but better safe than sorry... Thanks in advance for any suggestions...JR
