  1. OK its my first time to MD. Now besides any parts for mintenence, Is there anything I kneed to bring? I understand toilet paper is a comdity that should be brought also. Now my wife asked and my answer was I dont know. So here goes. Since Don is nice enough to let us camp in his yard, what does every one do about a shower? Im sure we can arrange something but she was just wandering. David
  2. Prayers are needed for a member here..... TxVenture, Don H. , I just spoke with him, he was admitted to the Hospital today, he had gone into have radiation treatment and his back hurt so bad that he couldn`t lay on the table. He also has an open wound from the Biopsi that he had done a few weeks ago. Don has been going through Cancer treatment for a few years now, and he really could use every ones prayers. Thanks alot!!
  3. I posted this in the Trike area a week ago and received no replies, to I thought I'd throw it out here. It is to help a friend that is trying to get back to biking again... Front tire for GW trike... I have a friend that just bought a '93 Gold Wing trike. He had been trying to get back on a bike for several years but is slightly paralyzed in one arm and had to go with a trike. The front tire is a Dunlop EIII 130/70R-18 and is in need of changing. Are there any alternatives that he could use? It looks as if the trikes mainly upright stance wears out the center of the tire prematurely. Any suggestions? Thank you! Don __________________
  4. I just spent a couple of hours in the garage doing various things (first time I have been able to do that in a couple of months, boy was it nice); One of which was changing the coolant (and flushing the system, replacing those stupid little rubber plugs). I read over the article in the Tech section and it made changing the coolant a breeze. The coke bottle method worked great except for the front left cylinder which Pheonex had warned it wouldn't work. But an old T-shirt did the trick So, just wanted to say thanks for that great write up. Don: thanks to you for keeping this place up and running. For those of you that haven't done this yet, I think the hardest part was refilling the coolant slow enough so that it didn't come up and out of the filler opening. Me, being impatient, had a few spills. Luckily it was just distilled water that I spilled (I got some practice since I flushed the system twice).

  6. OK, so I cruise out to Don's house to have him so generously sync my carbs, and in the meantime I have a potential buyer who lives 30-40 minutes from there. The buyer meets me at Freebird's house, sees the bike, talks to Don, and we walk over to the pond to discuss the deal. Under threat of attack by pond monsters (we were standing next to the 'Beware' sign) we made a fast, no-hassle deal! Not sure if it was the fear of attack or just Don's good nature that assisted the most, but my thanks and gratitude to both. Not only did he get a great running bike in the deal, but hopefully he will be one more attendee at maintenance day. Note to Don - the bike ran tip-top, of course, on the way home. Watched it pull out on the trailer this morning, so I'm back to a one-bike stable with the 1100 Virago. Stay safe everyone! Have a great riding season!
  7. thanks to Don and Rocket my class computer is working great. Don pointed me to the 1st. gen tech forum. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=493 Rocket, Paul if i remember right, actually called me and told me how to operate the thing. I had requested that info and He made the call within a few minutes of my post. This is definately an "Above and Beyond" group of folks. Rocket also told me that it may take more than one try at "the fix" to get it right, He was right. and, I think the trace was bad on the board because i wound up putting a couple of jumpers on the board to get it to work.. Thanks again:bowdown: Now if i could just get the blinkers and cruise to work.
  8. Well, I finally did it...Don (B2Dad) finally let me drive his trike. He took me out to the wilderness (state park) and let me drive it around the "loops". No trees jumped out in front of me...let me just say that right off! And when I got back after the first one, Don still had a tuft of hair left and a few fingernails LOL!! So around I went again. At one point I actually got it into 3rd gear!! Woo Hoo! Felt the wind in my hair...or would have if I wasn't wearing a helmet and had a windshield. It was a good day folks. We went on a nice ride and had a good time. The first real ride of the season. Mine, that is. Don already did some riding this week (thanks Monty for letting me know!) so I finally gave in today and we BOTH went riding. What's that saying? If you can't beat 'em, join em? I guess his hand survived. He's not hurting much tonite. A few more trips around the park and a written test and I might just get my license...will let you all know when it's time to look out for the hot chick on the trike...LOLOLOL!
  9. Another newbie question. Are Venture's prone to getting gas in the crankcase like the Yamaha Virago's if the petcocks leak or do not shut off? Just checking for overall impressions. Thanks again Don
  10. Another newbie question. There is a handle by the passenger seat, if I follow the cable it goes to the passenger backrest. What is this supposed to do? I pulled up on the lever and I think it is supposed to allow access to the rear compartment? Thanks in advance, Don
  11. I have another question, can the handlebars be adjusted, I want to raise them a little. Looks like there is an adjustment nut that pinch's the handlebars, can I crack them loose and bring the bars up, say 1/2-1"? Thanks, Don PS Forgive me for a lame question, just want to be sure I can do this.
  12. It was just brought to my attention that Don Brechun, username DonB, passed away in September. This is the first I've heard of this and was very sorry to hear the news. If anybody has any details, please let us know. Our prayers go out to all his friends and family. Don was from Windsor, ON, Canada.
  13. Haven't been on the site all that long but I decided to change my name from Crazy Frog to Travelin Man. Thanks again Don.
  14. Don suggested to me a darksiders meet and eat, what do yall think. Don your in texas, I'm in georgia, sounds like old miss, or new orleans in the spring. Or any other sugestions. Gregg
  15. hi all just to give everyone a little update on brad & lonna. they should be arriving at my house late afternoon today. brad said they drove all day yesterday in the rain. it's about another 6 to 8 hr drive. will update when i lay an eyeball on them. don c.
  16. :icon_smile_questionDo you turn off the fuel petcock on your bike when you are not riding? I got accustomed to not worrying about this with the 1st gen but see the manual says to turn it off when the bike is stopped. Is there a danger of fuel flowing down thru the carbs and into the cylinders and to the crankcase? Thanks! Don
  17. Hey Don, Who won
  18. Don, As much as I like your avitar Eagle, Just couldn't bring myself to use it. Just seems to belong with you. Found this one, and with it being white--which goes with my black and white bobber, I used this one. Seems to kind of finish it off---least till I change it again. Steve
  19. Here are a few pics of the work that got done on Gunboats ride this last Sat. Ponch installed a great set of gages and Don and myself ( Ponch helped also ) mounted up his new Kumho rear tire...balancing these will make you pull your hair out... http://s20.photobucket.com/albums/b230/kbay116/Gunboat%20gages/
  20. Hi Everyone - I too am considering putting a Voyager on my 2009 Venture S. I seem to remember somewhere that it said the side saddle bags would not open with the kit on. Can this be true? Does anyone have a Venture with the classic kit that can tell me for sure? That would make a big difference to me. Thanks for the info. Don
  21. don mentioned to me at the 09 rally, that he would like to do a meet at the hub next year. well i'm chompin at the bit already. it won't be an international rally. some one else can do that. it will be a 4 day get together. no raffles, no prizes, no registration fee, no catered meal, no shirts or patches, no planned rides, just a barbeque one night, and a good old let your hair down and relax meet, at a little cooler time. since don is on vacation at vogel right now i thought i would mention this to see how many folks would like to see this happen. we had so much fun and commaraderie this year and the hub is a wonderful place for a big meet. how many of you folks would be interested in attending? just curious.
  22. just, wanted to thank the one who made this rally and all the meets we have possible. none of us would be together without don. had a great time with him and Eileen this week. two fine people. don hope the new addition to your family works out for you and Eileen. :clap2::clap2:
  23. just got home about an hour ago. what a great time. got to see everyone off, almost. we are going to do it again at the hub next year. thats all i will tell you. i will let don elaborate on it when he gets a chance. since it was his idea. i will be available to help with the planning if don wants me.
  24. well i finally bought a new acer aspire one net book. haven't got a clue whether it is good or not. i wanted something for traveling so i could bug you all on the road. i will bring it with me to the hub. i will definately need a computor wizard for help. maybe i can con don into showing me how to use it. i will trade beer for help. it has 2gb ram, and an 11.6" lcd, 250 gb storage. just the right size to carry on the bike. see you at the hub don.
  25. Hi All - I am considering putting a Voyager Kit on my 2009 Yahama Venture but would sure like to see one before I do that. Is there anyone within a 200 mile radius of Chambersburg, PA that would be willing to let me come and visit to see their voyager kit? I sure would appreciate it. Thanks much. Don Wood
