1. My Venture is lowered and now i need to shorten my kick stand a bit. I was wondering about how much i need to take out of it? I am thinking maybe an inch, does that sound about right? Also to those of you who have cut your stands, did you cut it above or below the loop on the stand?
2. I switched out of my factory windshield that was cut down 4" for the 21" clearview with the vent and light tint. Much smoother ride! I read a post where someone had stated that the taller the windshield equaled less buffeting. It definitely cut the buffeting by 75% at 70mph. I can now ride at 75 mph (correct speedometer) and not have the buffeting as before. The main reason I cut my factor shield down 4" was I felt like I was either trying to look over or under it. With the 21" I have no problem looking thru it. I would definitely recomment the vent, it allows alittle bit of air to come thru to damper the vacumm effect. Not sure what it'll do to my fuel mileage, but so far I'm very pleased with their product and craftmanship.
3. I know it may be a odd subject... But I need to know. What do you guys wear for underwear on a long road trip? We are planning a 4000 mile ride this summer in early August thru the midwest. Its going to be HOT and sweat will be a problem. Cotton underwear just doesn't cut it. What do you recommended and why? Thank you
4. I had pulled my poor old 83 Venture out on this bright sunny Monday (holiday in Canada), and gave her a thorough once-over : check the plugs for sootiness/too clean, any leaks, all fluid levels, air pressures, etc. My bride offers to cut the lawn if I can watch our 2 darling girls (ages 4 & 2) for the time. I say no problem (her having cut the lawn in... ummm, never). The girls and I play happily in the back yard, when I hear a "GGggrrrrunnnch" followed quickly by a "whack". The result is posted in the picture. I believe she hit a pine cone with the lawn mowver, which promptly decided to launch it full speed with significant rotational velocity towards my bike. Ugggh. I know it need some touching up anyways, but did she have to hit the one panel that was fine ?
5. can anyone help me i removed my exaust off of my 89 royale thinking it would be easy to drill out the baffle to give a little louder tone i used a cuttoff toll to cut through the 3 welds on the cone ..does the entire cone need to be cut off cause it wont budge and i dont want to do too much damage to it if it gets to be too much of a pain and help on doing this mod taking off the cones and finishing the job with the baffles would be most great full i need to get this done before the thursday before memorial day weekend ...i taking a trip to newbern tenn the first bike trip since jess and i split and its like a celebration trip on the divorce being final on the 7th of this month thanks a million oh and squid if you read this do you want those 2nd gen pipes back if not ill find a home for them:think:
6. Do any of you guys have a cut down windshield; meaning at least 3-4" under your line of sight? If so, what do you think of it? Like it? Hate it? Does your head get buffeted too much? The previous owner had installed a Clearview but the top of it is directly at my line of site level so I'm always trying to sit up or I'm slouching. Actually, I hate to look through a windshield; much rather look over them. I'm considering cutting 2-3" off this Clearview but just wondering if I should go taller instead.
7. Hmmm, my wife has been asking me to cut down the maple tree in my front yard for two years now. The power company has hacked the tree pretty bad, and it's hollow. A local stray cat had a litter of kittens in the tree about a year ago. So I finally get the tree service scheduled to come out and cut the tree down when my wife says a bird is nesting in the tree. I walked out there and sure enough, a robin is firmly wedged into her nest. Wikipedia says the eggs should hatch in about 12 days, and the baby birds should be out within another two weeks after that. I suppose the tree has been there for 60 years, whats another month, right?
8. While adding Dyna Beads to my tires this evening I noticed a small cut in my front tire (after adding the beads). I'm leaving next week on a week long trip and I am debating on whether I need to change the tire before I go or not. The tire has less than 2,000 miles on it. The cut is about 1/2 the depth of the tread at the tread and then taper up to nothing at the other end. The cut is clean and there is nothing in it. Attached are a couple of photos of the tire to show the cut and the scale. I'm seeking other opinions. Would you ride on it or not? Dennis
9. My '86 venture was missing the CB when I bought it and now I'm integrating a FRS/GMRS radio for an easy (cheap) bike to bike solution. I figured out how to integrate the unit with the bike intercom using the CB jack on the amplifier and the built in PTT switches. What I need to figure out is how to cut the radio out automatically when using the FRS (like the CB does). On this web site (http://www.delusional-mechanic.com/) he identified that the center pin has 8V on it when the vox has cut out the radio. My question is: Is the 8v a result of the mechanism that cut the radio out or is it the signal that is cutting it out?? In other words If I send 8V on this pin to the radio, will it cut it out the radio, blow it up or have no affect?? Thanks Mike
10. Yup.... Sad Day!! I watched as some guy took her down the drive way for the last time.. I sold my `05 Aero to a young School Teacher yesterday... I didn`t want to sell her but I didn`t ride her any more and she needed to be on the road.. I almost got KBB for her, but cut the guy $200.00 ... so now its just the Green Beast in the shed.. hope it doesn`t get lonely....
11. this is what they look like when you cut the center out with a haxsaw:farmer:
12. help, I have a 97 F250 7.2lt (460) FI problem is, it will cut off while driving just like I turned the key off, most times it will fire right back off, some times I have had to let it set about 10 min, then it will start. It will turn over, I have power to everything, but not fire to either the plugs or the injectors, maybe both. I have checked all of the grounds that I can find, and all seem to be fine. I did have an alarm on it, that I removed. I removed the alarm while the truck was running, in case I cut the wrong wire. any Ideas on what to look for would be great. I can not replicate the problem, so that makes it twice as hard to figure out what is going on. Thanks for any help. Kreg
13. my riding season is officially open . just got another raise. going to cut my gas bill by 60%. happy day.

15. So, it's Saturday, it's raining/snowing, I have nothing to do. Have my fairing split to install an extension to the Aux Audio line coz I removed the cassette and I was thinking about auxilliary power switches for things like driving lamps or whatever. Remembered seeing others with those chrome 3 switch boxes on top of the front brake reservoir (I like those) and also remembered the nice rocker switches below the gauges on the Harley Ultra so, I started fabricating and came up with the following.... First pic is the Factory "bare bones" cruise switch. Second 2 pics are the completed result. Rest of the pics are in order of build process. I had some flat 1/8 thick (appx) 2" wide aluminum that I'd used for something or another. I cut a piece 6" long. Used a cardboard template to determine the appx cutout below the cruise switch. Made the cut and then realized I needed tabs to mount it. Was going to use some angle brackets but decided it would be easier and cleaner to bend the existing aluminum so I had to re-cut (hence the "fixed up" pic). Also realized that the original size (using angle brackets) would hit somewhere near the ignition switch when the wheel was turned to pin. Made the bend and checked for positioning. Cut the holes for the switches ( appx 5/8 by 1 & 1/8 based on the rocker switch I used). I drilled a hole big enuf to get a jigsaw blade in and then cut to appx size with that...then used a file to finish off, checking often to get it just right so that the switch would pop in (forgot to take pics of the switches but I used the kind that have little "pressure tangs" on the back) I drilled 4 holes for mounting screws and used some short sheet metal screws and screwed them right into the plastic. I drilled small pilot holes first. After all the cutting, filing, and checking for fit was done, I smoothed all the edges, roughed up the surfaces, cleaned it with thinners and painted the bracket with a "textured metallic" paint (black of course). I toyed with the idea of smoothing and polishing the aluminum but I felt it would not blend with the overall look. Rocker switches mounted....not yet connected to anything but hey... one day they will be!
16. I put this same post in the original thread but decided to do it again with a new thread since I was so slow responding to the last questions. Sorry about the delay responding. Been in south Louisiana piggin' out on Cajun cookin'! Use duct tape to protect the chrome and a sawzall (reciprocating saw) to make the cut right past the seam (on the exit side of seam) as it drops to a cone. Smooth out edges with an orbital sander. Paint the insides with high temp black paint. Be careful and don't cut into the inner pipe until you decide how far you want it to extend out of the baffle plate. Doing it this way keeps you from having to remove the mufflers. If you're nervous about cutting, leave extra metal that can be slowly ground down with a 4-1/2" angle grinder.
17. Just HAD to post a new thread to extol the virtues of my new Stebel horn. I love it! Haven't even blown anyone's doors off yet........but I know I'm gonna! If you DON'T have one......go buy one today. Never let that goof in the Ford pickup or that little old lady in the Mercury Marquis drift aimlessly into your lane again!! I can't WAIT for my first altercation. Am I sounding passive/aggressive yet? Too many years of being cut off, I guess. Have a great weekend, folks......I know I WILL!! Mike

19. I saw you hug your purse closer to you in the grocery store line. But you didn't see me put an extra $10.00 in the collection plate last Sunday. I saw you pull your child closer when we passed each other on the sidewalk. But you didn't see me playing Santa at the local Mall. I saw you change your mind about going into the restaurant when you saw my bike parked out front.. But you didn't see me attending a meeting to raise more money for the hurricane relief. I saw you roll up your window and shake your head when I rode by. But you didn't see me riding behind you when you flicked your cigarette butt out the car window. I saw you frown at me when I smiled at your children. But you didn't see me, when I took time off from work to run toys to the homeless. I saw you stare at my long hair. But you didn't see me and my friends cut ten inches off for Locks of Love. I saw you roll your eyes at our Leather jackets and gloves. But you didn't see me and my brothers donate our old ones to those that had none. I saw you look in fright at my tattoos. But you didn't see me cry as my children where born or passed away & have their name written over and in my heart. I saw you change lanes while rushing off to go somewhere. But you didn't see me going home to be with my family.. I saw you complain about how loud and noisy our bikes can be. But you didn't see me when you were changing the CD and drifted into my lane. I saw you yelling at your kids in the car. But you didn't see me pat my child's hands knowing she was safe behind me. I saw you reading the newspaper or map as you drove down the road.. But you didn't see me squeeze my wife's leg when she told me to take the next turn. I saw you race down the road in the rain. But you didn't see me get soaked to the skin so my son could have the car to go on his date. I saw you run the yellow light just to save a few minutes of time. But you didn't see me trying to turn right. I saw you cut me off because you needed to be in the lane I was in. But you didn't see me leave the road. I saw you, waiting impatiently for my friends to pass. But you didn't see me. I wasn't there. I saw you go home to your family. But you didn't see me. Because I died that day you cut me off. I was just a biker. A person with friends and a family. But you didn't see me. 20. Went for a ride the other day and when I got home and started to gather my belongings I went to open the trunk and it went up 1/2 way. I gave it a reasonable pull but it didn't seem to want to budge? Anyone have any experience with this. I haven't tried too hard yet but if somone has a short cut fix I will not be offended;) Thanks in advance Mark
21. I've been following and reading some posts on installing RK slip-ons. Have also read how to mod them for more sound. Everyone talks about drilling out, knocking out plugs, etc. Today I found a local customizing shop for Harley's and asked if he had any RKs. He took me over to a shelf he had in back and got several down to show me. One set were stright tip and I could not see through them another set which he had cut out (gutted) were in bad shape. Then he showed me what he said was a newer set (he said from an 06) that were slash cut style and were in good shape. When I held them up I could see all the way through them no plugs or anything blocking view or anything. I could see a pipe in the center with lots of holes in it running the length of the inner pipe. He said they were stock and nothing had been done to them. My question is are there diff cores in the stock RK mufflers. Some blocked by plugs and baffles and some that you can see stright through? Sure need help.
22. I have seen where some were asking about muffler for venture that sound good but not loud. The yamaha shop gave me at set off of a 2007 tour deluxe. has the same the part number as the ones on my 2000, except they have moveable tips. I used a dremel tools with a cut off disk, went up in the muffler 1 inch and cut the tube, pushed it to the side and put them back on, they sound great, but are not loud unless under full throttle. also you can't tell the mod has been done looking at the muffler, nor can you run the stick up into muffler to check the baffle. This can be done to any 99 up venture, it was easy to due only takes about an hour. You do need the extension set for the dremel tool. Gregg:big-grin-emoticon:
23. ok, need some help here.. I installed my R/K`s last Sat. and took them back off in about 10 min.... hated the way they fit.. sounded good but looked like some rigged %$#@... I have the Kury. clamps and they still did not cover the pipe where the RK`s meet up. Looks like some of the pipe on the mufflers needs to be cut off.. any one have any Ideas, I have seen them on others and they looked good, I thought about useing the cone from the stock, but didn`t want to end up with 2 sets that I can`t use.. Just a biker...

I got this in an email tonight, and I thought... ~R JUST A BIKER I saw you hug your purse closer to you in the grocery store line. 25. After a few days, we can laugh about some of the things that took place. After the crash, I got up off the road and removed my jacket and helmet, walked to the ambulance to be checked, and they cut my shirt off and my new jeans almost to the crotch! Would have cut my jacket too if I hadn't taken it off. After 5 hours in the ER I got to go see my wife. I expected to see her dressed (or undressed) just like me. WRONG! She was still in her jacket, shirt and jeans. She simply got feisty with them and told them they were NOT cutting up her outfit! Guess I should have thought of that. When we were finally released, she walked out looking fine. I walked out without a shirt and my pantlegs blowing in the breeze, and patches of hair pulled off my chest from the sticky things! Tomorrow I'll see about getting the bike back to the dealer for an estimate. Then I'm sure the fun will begin with the insurance people. Health-wise we are doing better. Mostly just sore. Thanks for the prayers-they really do work. Mark
