This is my first time posting on here. Exhaust question- is louder better or not? I have almost been ran out of the road before because of someone in a car not hearing or seeing my bike. I have noticed when riding in my truck that if a motorcycle with loud exhaust is beside of me then I can hear it before seeing it. If you change exhaust do you have to have the carb. rejetted? Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Hairman

its time to chang the oil in my 06 RSV which i bought used the dealler said that the bike had Yamaha Lube in it when i bought so should i put that back in it or not. i also hear guys talking about putting sea foam in it right before i change the oil will that help me or hurt me by doing so? thanks

I am wanting to add with and length (pull back) to my 07 RSMV. I have risers but would like to have the bars much wider and be able to set back without reaching toward the bars. If anyone has made this change, I wouls appreciate you letting me know how it turned out. Also a part number and where you purchased them if possible

I know this is a dumb question but here goes. I own an 83 VR, about to change the plugs and can't find what to set the gap to any help would be appericated. Also my headlight fuse blew and when I went to change it the holder was brittle and broke, I rigged it for now but need a replacement, probally the whole panel. Anybody got one or know where to find one. Thanks everyone.

Has anyone here changed out, or had someone else change out, the AM/FM on their ride? I have the 04 RSV and can't stand the stock system. When I leave the area where my programmed channels are set then it's a pain in the arse to try and change them. I'd like to get something easier to use and preferrably one that won't break the bank. I'm not particularlly talented enough to do the work myself so I may have to take it somewhere for the job. I'm ok with the stock speakers. I'm also hoping the new system will improve the volume for my XM. My Garmin has XM and the volume thru the helmets suck. I can hear the radio with no problems but the XM just won't go up loud enough when at hi way speed.

got the voy back to gather,need to road test it had to go to the doc,yasterday,my blood pressure has been realy,abnormal,sence i got back from kitchner,they changed my B P med,and i'm not responding to the new med vary well,it gose hi,over night,then low in the after noon,so the riding is out till after next tuesday,if it is ok by then this is V A's,doing they will change your med,to a cheeper generic the head pharmacist can make changes,and the doc,[dont have any say]then have to check and reavaluate the dosage,untill it is,kinka back to normal

I am going on a overnight weekend trip and would like to change the rear drive train oil today sense its been a little over a year sense I have had it done. I have done it myself on my old 2001 Suzuki Volusia but haven’t tried changing it myself on my venture I usually let the dealer handle it. I am at work right now and don’t have access to the owners manual to figure out what type of oil to get for it on my way home. Can some one please post a walk through on how to change the rear drive train oil and what oil is best to use?

Ok here's the story I can't use the design that Jeff picked for the t-shirts. So I had to make a quick change so I can order them. Here's the links and you can order one with pockets now if you want. First is with pocket the second without. Hope everyone see's this cause I'm gonna have to get the order out no later then wed. Noise in final drive area after rear tire change

Installed new rear tire on 83 Venture. Followed instructions, complete with lithium grease before re-installing wheel and lubing axle. Upon completion fired it up for a test run and got a very loud scraping type noise similiar to worn out metal to metal brake pads on a rotor. Lightly pulled brake handle and no change, stepped on brake pedal and no change. Put in back on the jack, fired it back up, ran it through three gears and no noise. Shut it down, put it in neutral and manually spun the wheel and could not detect any problems. The only wild card I can think of is upon completion with the bike still on the jack, I put the grease gun on the grease zert on the drive shaft housing. It took a lot of grease. I'm wondering with the swing down all the way when it was greased maybe this is causing the problem???? Anybody have suggestions before fight the misquitos and pull it back down? By the way, thanks for the reponses on no rear brakes. I finally elevated the front of the bike and bled off the front, then elevated the rear and did the same. Within 3 or 4 minutes I had rear brakes again. I remembered we had to do that sometimes with ford rangers bleeding clutches. -
I got the mirrors done, I only had one base with boot so I painted the other black. I used a 10MM tap on the bases, I would like to have used larger mirrors may change them this was a test. Mirrors $17.00 from JC Whitney any suggestions welcome. Dale

According to my manual on the '97 RSTD it shows oil quantity as follows: Total amount: 4.6 US qt. Periodic oil change: 3.7 US Qt With Oil filter replacement: 3.9 US qt. Now, If the manual shows 3.9 quarts required if the filter is changed how does that add up to 4.6 qts total? But what I really need to know is, if I change the filter, how many quarts should I put in? Secondly, if I don't change the filter this time, how many quarts should I put in?

well today i got to change the oil which is a big deal for me, now i want to change the final gear oil, my question is do i remove the side bag and if so is it hard to do, remember i'm a mechanical geek. as always you guy's have been great with your help. thanks,bob

Hey Folks, It seems that I am the butt (yeah go ahead and laugh) of an unusual prank. I went to change my info in my user CP to reflect my new bike in it and lo and behold, a gremlin popped up. It seems that when I went to do the change, I became a Super Moderator. Now I dont know how to react to this, I have no special powers, nor a whole lot of smarts. But I will say that being given this prestediguous title I will work very hard to be what I have been labeled. I am getting ready to change the final oil on my 03 RSV, I just turned over 21,000 miles and this will be the second time I have changed it. I would like to change it over to synthetic and am looking for a recommendation. The service manual calls for SAE 80 API GL-4 hypoid gear oil, I found an SAE 75W-90 API GL-5 that is made/sold by Super Tech. Has anyone used this type of oil in their bike? Any feedback or suggestions would be helpful. Thanks

I hear that Yamaha retrofitted the early Ventures with a crankshaft 'paddle' device to improve oil circulation over the stator coil to dissipate heat from it. Does anyone have a part number for this 'paddle' ? I am going back in to change the starter clutch and I'd like to install one of these while I am at it, but can't find it listed in any of the parts diagrams at Yamaha.com. Thanks, Brian H. When ever I open photo bucket the text is soo small you can not read it. You can not advance to the next page because you can not see a button. Also when you open a picture in comes in so large it is fuzzy. Any ideas to change the settings to enlarge the text and make the photos normal size. ? Brad

Is Fram #PH6017A the right filter. I've always had good luck with them, especially as often as I change oil. TIA, Eddie

Have a squeaking in drivtrain I believe. Sounds much like a bad u-joint. Squeak gets faster with speed of bike. Recently replaces rear tire. Lubed axle,repacked bearing and change final gear oil. Any ideas as to whats causing noise? Thanks in advance

I am new owner of a 07 RSMV and just going threw the break in period. The Bike runs like a dream and is schld in for it's first oil change next week. I am cusious if upgrading to a K&N filter will make a noticeable difference in Power, also cusious if I have to re jet??? Tks Victor .

time for first 600 miles oil and filter change, question ? would you go ahead and put the mobile 1 4t synthetic in now or wait. also do you need a filter wrench that fits a rachet or a regular one with a handle. just wanted to know before i start changing in the next few days. thanks, mike b.

Has anyone changed the original 3.5 X 16 front to a 4.5 X 18. If so how did it work out?
