  1. Finally got the tour-pack on thanks to the bracket from (member) naturbar. The 1998 TC is a little different from the late model TDs, in that there were no quick mount lugs and the rear holes are a little more than a inch different. Oh well, after I finally convinced the parts guy at the stealership that quick mount lugs were in the '05 TD parts book, not in the accessories book I got them ordered. Cut the stand-offs off the bracket and redrilled the holes. One twice, after my machinist son-in-law mis-measured:doh:. Anyway now it's on...
  2. My bike decided not to start after getting gas the other day. I thought it might be the battery because its not exactly new. I had the battery tested they said it was ok so I checked the voltage with the bike at 2000-4000 rpm and it was 13.4 V DC the book says it should be 14-15 V. Is that right seems a little high to me. So you fine folks think the stators going? I have not checked the resistance yet or the AC voltage.
  3. While at Vogel I was presented with a book written by Peter Egan, titled Leanings. Peter Eagan is a contributing editor of Cycle World, Road & Track and a few other mags. These are stories and articles taken from Cycle World and are very good reading. YammerDan presented me with the book, and stipulated that the book had to be passed on to any member who wanted to read it. I am the 4th to have it according to the signatures in the cover. So if you are interested in reading it just post your request here with your mailing address and I will forward it on to you, when you are finished you must sign it, inside the front cover, and post here for the next person to read. That simple. Dan, you forgot to sign it so I will "forge" your name in it. And a big THANK YOU, to the person who bought this book, it was great reading.
  4. What does the yamaha book say about the interval adjustments for the valves on the engine? I'm at work and my book is at home. thanks gunky
  5. disregard post.. de-idioted the book and figured it out..
  6. Hey Guys I'm stuck without a way to go right now. Don't want to just jump and buy something. Pocket book not in greatest shape after this one. Just what do you think of this one?? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&item=160338682918
  7. http://www.customcruiserchrome.com/book Nice cover on the book as well Curt
  8. There has been so much talk about no 2009 venture that when I took a ride to the dealer and mentioned it. He pulled out his 2009 products book and showed me the 2009. Same bike, same features, different colors. Yes the is a 2009 model. Kenw

    book for road trips

Is a publication, like a book, or mag, or something like that that gives ideas for 1-day bike trips for PA or for other areas? Right now I can't break away for longer rides, but want to take a series of day rides from the house. I know how to look at a map - just wondering if someone has put together different routes for different areas.
  10. Letting off some steam here...sorry. What good is having a blue book value for trade in if a dealer won't use it? Instead they use some auction thingy. Kelly blue book rates my 07 Chevy Equinox for $16,000, I went to try to trade for a 08 Wrangler and at first they only offered 11,000. I told them no, KBB say's its worth 16 and they left for another 15 minutes. Came back and said the very most they could give me was 12,000. They showed me what they use, a sheet showing what they can buy my car at a dealer auction for. They said 11 was high and he went above his boss and offered the 12. This is total bull. I am a cash paying customer, no financing, I was there most of the day on Sat. and there from 1:30 to 4:00 today and these JERKS have the nerve to try and sell me this Jeep for sticker price and offer me below Blue book trade in value on my one year old car. Sorry for ranting but I am just soooo peeved at the situation.

  12. Rambling Man (Bruce) let me borrow a coffee table book he has called "The most scenic drives in America". It has a listing by region of 120 road trips, hard cover, 400 pages. It's very easy to use and could come in handy for planning trips. I found several places on e-bay to buy it. Here's a link for the seller I bought from. http://cgi.ebay.com/The-Most-Scenic-Drives-in-America-120-Spectacular-Roa_W0QQitemZ150209042189QQihZ005QQcategoryZ377QQrdZ1QQssPageNameZWD1VQQ_trksidZp1638.m118.l1247QQcmdZViewItem In looking at the Readers Digest web site there are several other books offered there along the same theme that look very good. Their prices are a bit higher than e-bay though.
  13. Sometiome this spring the State Dept. will be issuing a passport card that can be used for land and sea travel when intering back into the US. I though for those going to VR II it might be something to think about getting. It might be easier to pull out a card than rummage around for a book. They haven't set an exact date yet as to when they'll be producing the plastic card, just that it'll be spring 2008, and you might want to wait until they actually do as you have to submit your current passport along with the app, and I wouldn't want to be without something. I called to get varification and you will get both a card and a new book. The cost is $20 bucks..... Here's the site to download and print up the app.
  14. I saw this on the nascar website. Should be an interesting book when it's done. http://www.nascar.com/2008/news/features/02/28/kpetty.bike.ride.kschrader/index.html Margaret
  15. I have a Chilton Motorcycle repair manual for sale if anyone's interested. Covers BMW, BSA, Bultaco, Harley, Honda, Kawasaki, Montesa, MotoGuzzi, Norton, OSSA, Suzuki, Truimph, Yamaha .... I'm gussing it's for bikes around 1970 era as I got it when I had my '72 Truimph back around 1976. The book was published in 1974. It's in pretty good shape...has a bit of a "burn" on the edge of the front cover that extends to the first 2 or 3 pages. 1376 pages in total. No idea what this book is worth so if anyone's interested, make me a offer...I'll ship it COD or will find out shipping cost and add that to the price.
  16. Been a member of this great site for a number of months and enjoy coming on just about everyday to read what my fellow members are saying about the great bikes we own and ride. But finally I think I may have something to contribute or complain about or even ***** about. And that is the extra it cost us(Canadians) to accessorize our bikes. For example: I recently ordered a replacement patch cord(upper) for my RSV. Refering to the book it was $32.95 plus tax of course 14%, my dealers price was $44.00 and change. New price came in of course since the book was printed in March. Just for S&G I checked the price of the same part in the States. $25. I know our dollar is just starting to rebound after some thirty years in the rear but price gouging seems to be the norm here in Canada. I know a easy remedy would be to order it from the US but we know what happens when we fail to support our local distributers. Also for example I just finished watching a report on how car dealers in the states are refusing to sell cagers to cross border shoppers. Not sure if this will end up in court but so much for free trade. By the way a new RSV is over $21,899 here compared to $17,599 in the States. Wish I still lived in Virginia Beach.
