  1. Hey, Snag, what have you heard of the guy who was killed the other day 'test riding' a motorcycle? The paper didn't say much beyond 'hitting a speed bump'.
  2. I haven't been around the site much lately. Sold all the bikes and bought my 53 Mercury Monterey 2 Dr. Hardtop. I am quickly discovering that parts are hard to find and when I find them they are either pitted or very expensive. As a result I'm clearing out some of my motorcycle gear to raise funds for my new project! I take donations as well!! If you run them through the church I can make them tax deductible! Just kidding. I love the car and haven't missed the two wheels ------ yet!
  3. What do you do with old Bumper Cars? WHO KNEW? Yes, you read that right; these little beasties are street legal. They run on either Kawasaki or Honda motorcycle engines and co-opt vintage bumper car bodies into the most awesome form of mini-car we've seen in a long time. There are seven of these little monsters floating around California, and they're all the creation of one man, Tom Wright, a builder in the outskirts of San Diego who figured the leftovers of the Long Beach Pike amusement park needed a more dignified end than the trash heap. They were originally powered by two cylinder Harley Davidson Motorcycle engines but they rattled like heck because of the two cylinder vibration. Tom replaces them with four cylinder Honda or Kawasaki 750's, and a couple have been measured as capable of 160 MPH (which is terrifyingly fast in machines with such a short wheelbase).
  4. The Navigator and I are flying out to B.C. in June for our daughters graduation. She was attending Simon Fraser University and has completed her Grad studies. For the two weeks that we will be there she has a fairly busy schedule planned for us. One suggestion she made is that we rent, borrow or steal a Motorcycle for a day. Is there a place in the Vancouver area that I can rent a Motorcycle for a day? If so does anyone want to play tour guide? Wayne
  5. I just saw this on another board. http://www.cjay92.com/Contests/Register.aspx?ContestID=134250 CJAY 92, Cycle Works and Husky have decided to give away FREE gas! Its High Octane Tuesdays all summer long! If you own a motorcycle, listen to CJAY 92 Tuesday mornings to get the secret location. Then at 7pm you have 94 minutes to feed your motorcycle some 94 Octane and drive away without paying a dime. wish we had that here:confused24:
  6. Hello Everyone: It is so early in the riding season here in Nebraska, been cold and wet. I heard last weekend about a biker from a nearby town that struck a deer while riding his motorcycle. I am saddened to learn he passed away due to his injuries. Although I did not know the biker, my heart goes out to his family. He was one us. Ride safe...

  9. Okay, not sure if these are real or not, but I thought it was funny as heck! http://www.handerpants.com/ Won't be long before everyone will be wearing them...get yours quick and lead the new trend!:rotf:
  10. Does anyone have experience or thoughts with removing heavy smoke damage from a motorcycle? Thanks in advance.
  11. Interesting read on suspension and how it works - http://www.cyrilhuzeblog.com/2011/04/14/the-inner-workings-of-motorcycle-suspension-part-1/
  12. Two bikers died this weekend in Houston. In separate wrecks, both were caused by cages turning left into the path of the oncoming motorcycle...
  13. This is the first time I have actually SEEN counter-steering in action. Who knew you could ride a motorcycle in so many ways? [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=No_vqA2A3KY&feature=related]YouTube - Freestyle Streetbike WM 2009 Zürich, CP Chris Pfeiffer, World Championship[/ame]
  14. (MUNICH, GERMANY) Norbert Reithofer, CEO of Bayerische Motoren Werke AG, announced today that Harley-Davidson Motor Company has accepted a friendly merger agreement by BMW and will combine their motorcycle manufacturing facilities. Mr. Keith E Wandell, CEO of Harley-Davidson, will become president of the the worldwide motorcycle division, which will include the current BMW Motorrad division, Harley-Davidson, and Husqvarna. "We have long felt the need to diversify our motorcycle production by adding models more attuned to the cruiser market," Herr Reithofer said. "With our current BMW line, our Husqvarna line, and now the new Harley-Davidson line, we will be able to penetrate all parts of the worldwide motorcycle market." Mr. Wandell stated that the move, which has taken the motorcycling world by surprise, was accepted by Harley-Davidson as a way to strengthen its capital base, which has never recovered from the 2008 financial meltdown. "We also are looking for ways to streamline our operations by combining research and development, design, and marketing components of our motorcycle lines." The two men showed off a prototype of the kind of combined work the new combined companies will be capable of by announcing the BMW H1600R, which features a Harley motor in the body of the current K1600GT, suitably modified, with a distinctive orange and blue paint scheme to combine the colors of the two companies. There was also a clay mockup of a version of the current RoadKing Classic with the iconic BMW boxer motor, which is promised for fall introduction. FOR RELEASE AFTER MARCH 31, 2011
  15. If your in the area I'm sure your motorcycle or car will enjoy it. It says its updated monthly http://www.pure-gas.org/index.jsp?stateprov=VA
  16. If you wear a leather vest and choose to put a LARGE back patch on it with territorial "rockers" under the patch you are in violation of the Motorcycle Protocol of any 1%'er Club which may be located in your State. Make no mistake about it....These 1%'ers take this SERIOUSLY and will confront you. If you are lucky they will request you take off the vest....There will be NO 2nd request forthcoming....There will be no discussion/debate from them regarding your RIGHT to wear whatever you want. Violence is the norm because this violation of their Motorcycle Protocol is a direct insult and show of disrespect to their Club. I'm posting this in the best interest of ALL members of this Site. I will NOT debate this issue on this Forum. To each his own regarding your individual actions. Regards and respect to all......Boomer
  17. I got this in a email today from Motorcycle U.S.A. http://www.motorcycle-usa.com/659/9429/Motorcycle-Article/Motus-MST-Tourer-Public-Debut-at-Daytona.aspx?WT.i_e_dcsvid=1034585792
  18. Motorcycle Trailer! Check this out. Saw this at Harbor Freight, not a bad deal and with the 20% coupon found in most magazines. (I know there in the gun magazine) The 20% would be off the $379.99 bring the total to around $304.00+tax:sign isnt that spec
  19. My wife wants to take a ride this summer that covers about 1000 miles. I think it's a great idea but worry about one thing. I'm riding a 1983 classic that not one motorcycle mechanic wants to touch at a dealership, and parts are impossible to come by outside of a motorcycle wreckers or ebay. I already have trust issues with the bike after it blew out the TCI 2 years ago on a 200 mile ride and I am hesitant to trust her to take me 1000 miles without troubles. It's mostly the age, the fact that there are almost no real Motorcycle mechanics at dealerships anymore and the no parts thing. I calculated the worst case and a flatbed tow back home from 500 miles away is $2800.00! Am I being a worry wart? or are my concerns for a long ride justified?
  20. OK folks, here's the thing. Motorcycle Gear, previously New Enough, has changed the program that they have used for a long time. The old program allowed you to designate your "favorite club" and then they put a dollar in the clubs account that I could then use as prizes and etc. in contests. They have now discontinued that program. They are now using a "affiliates code" like many other online advertisers do. They will now pay a small fee if a buyer enters their site from clicking on a banner. So, I am asking you to please use the banner that rotates at the upper right of the forum and the home page if you go to Motorcycle Gear to place an order. If you go to their site via your own bookmarks and etc., VentureRider will get no credit for your purchases. The same is true of Jake Wilson and Motorcycle Superstore. If you don't go to their sites by clicking on the banner at the top of our site, we get no credit for your purchases there. I don't fill our site with a lot of banners because I don't want this site to be about bombarding you with advertisements but if you use the few that I have at the top, it does help to support the club. Also, we have $159.00 in our old account with them and we have to give it away now or will lose it. So, we need to have a contest and the winner will receive a $159.00 gift certificate from Motorcycle Gear. I will give it some thought and come up with something later today. I will make a new post when I decide what kind of contest it will be this time. It will be something simple though and probably run for a week.
  21. This is a very simple system that I just installed on my bike for two reasons. 1. I do not want to remove the seat all the time to charge the battery. 2. I also want a quick system to jump start my motorcycle should the battery go dead on me for any reason and I need to get home. Its nice to have a system on the bike so as one does not have to tear the bike apart to get to the battery connections. I want a fast fix if I am down for any reason. Plan ahead!! Steps 1. Remove the seat so as to access the Battery and the cover for the circuit breakers left side rear of motorcycle. "near battery" 2. Get a large electrical wire or what I did was use electrical wire with three wires inside the rubber covering about 9 inches long. Need large wire to start the starter should it be necessary to jump start the motorcycle. 3. I then got two electrical connectors which would fit on the battery positive post and one that would fit on a 5/16 inch bolt that is one and 3/8 inches long. 4. I then drilled a 5/16 hole on the plastic cover that is behind the battery near the positive post. 5. I crimped the electrical connectors on each end of the wires. 6. I put one connector on the 5/16 inch bolt and put on a nut and tighten the connector to the bolt. 7. I then passed the bolt through the hole that I drilled 5/16 in the plastic and installed lock washer and bolted it to the plastic cover. The bolt is now sticking out about 3/4 of an inch. 8. I then installed the other end to the positive post of the battery and routed the wire where it would not be hitting anything. 9. I then tested the system by placing my battery charger on the motorcycle with the postive lead attached to the 5/16 inch bolt and the negative place on any ground/metal on the motorcycle. 10. The bolt is extremely hard to see with the seat both on or off but it really helps in knowing that you can charge the bike and jump start without removing the seat and etc. If anyone would like to see photos of the system installed write me a e-mail and I will send the photos. 22. Need a helmet? 2011 Motorcycle Helmets cops hate I never cease to marvel at the Free Enterprise System. When a product reaches the point where it's nearly impossible to improve its functionality, someone will still come up with a way to make people want to ditch their old one and get yours.
  23. This video confirms that motorcycle riding can recapture your youth!
  24. Need to get 2 new tires and 2 new helmets...Motorcycle SuperStore has what I need so I was wondering if anyone had a coupon or promotional code I could use for my order? Or maybe another store (Jake Wilson?) that you might have a coupon code for... Thanks!
  25. A couple that attends our church had their house burn down this week; they were well insured and are all ok, however the fire department is telling them that the cover on his motorcycle rubbed against the bike and ignited a gas leak. I am curious if anyone has ever heard of this happening? http://www.abcnews4.com/Global/story.asp?S=13891411
