  1. that sounds like a cool idea. we have plenty of space for one. any one else want to elaborate on that idea. don't hold back. bill
  2. heres a good one. one morning years ago i ran over a dead white german shepard. dead center. it was still dark and i was doing about 50. gripped the bars and gritted my teeth and felt a little thump thump and that was it. had visions of a total disaster. when i went to pick up my new gold wing 4 months ago. i was driving my ranger truck and trailer to arkansas and ran over a dead deer in the road at 70 mph, dead center. once again gritted my teeth and heard one heck of a noise. stopped to check for damage and had none. trailer came off the ground when it went over the deer. but no damage, just a lot of blood and hair. i have this thing with animals in the road. i think i attract them. i have hit 3 live dear. two with my car and one on a scooter. almost totaled the scoot.
  3. i was figuring events that are over could be deteted. alot of it on there.
  4. hey lewis what time are we meeting at flying j ?
  5. linda and i rode to hannibal mo. today and on the way stopped to visit some very good friends and 2 of the finest people we have ever met. brian and michelle wegon. brian has not been on here for almost a year and several of us members were deeply worried about them. they are fine, and i hope brian will again become a regular on the site. we love them and miss them. bill
  6. chalk is tasty, but i'm into pudding now. teeth are rotting out and freebird might fire me. so i decided to mellow out. only weak spot now is knocking wings and sportbikes. still makes me want ot bite off a hunk of titanium.
  7. if i remember right my v-max was redlined at 9500. never watched the tach just shifted by feel. squeeze can probably elaborate on that.
  8. as lewis said the hospital is not at all depressing. it was a heartwarming experience. really nice place and i really respect danny thomas, and family for the amount they have sacrificed to build and maintain this fantastic facility. they are what good people are all about. learned alot and became a much better person after the visit last year. boy i left myself open on that statement. let her eat ozark. lol. what ever lewis works out i'm in. by the way dragonrider is a pretty good guy and deserves alot of credit for his part in supporting st. jude.
  9. i've heard 2000cc's, and a six speed for starters. neither one is really needed. can't think of anything i would want changed on mine, accept power outlets standard, and five years worth of free gas. lol
  10. ozarks idea sounds fine to me. we could meet one of their people in the lobby and present the money to them and leave. may work out better for people going back home the same day. bill
  11. thanks wolfie, i new i forgot something. sorry about that swifty.
  12. since all the members are going have input on our meet this year i am going to keep you informed every so often on whats happening on our planning committee. we have had a lull in the planning due to some personal mishaps and bringing a busy riding season to an end. after the st. jude ride we are going to start kicking butt again and cindy who is incharge of registration along with black owl will be getting the registration fee together and start taking registrations. since this is going to be a very big meet. we need all you folks to plan ahead so we can figure attendence numbers for the t-shirt orders and planning for the final dinner. the 60 rooms at the hub are full and we are starting to fill motels in nearby harrison. here's what we have so far. we are going to have maps available so groups can get together and plan individual rides. there will be to many bikes for planned rides for the whole group. we are going to have a catered final dinner in the awesome hall that we have available. we are going to have vendors on site inside the airconditioned hall. danob11 is incharge of the vendors . blackowl has suggested having skilled riding games so we will be working on that. rose bud is working on name pins for all the people who register, that are really neat so we know everyones name. don freebird has come up with an awesome logo for your t-shirts, and name pins that you will get with your registration. buddy is handling the motel accomodations and has a list of them on the site. roadkill is working on the raffles and i think we are going to raffle off a trailer again. colesgrandpa is working on the rides and ride maps. dooder1 and i are bringing up the rear and working on the food and all the junk that no one else is working on. members of the committee have been to the hub and they are working with us to make this one great meet. we have a great group working on this and i can't thank them enough. squidly and don freebird are on board to keep me out of trouble and make sure we don't forget anything. we have a few neat things in the works that i will let out down the road if they work out. anyone who has any ideas to make this meet any better. email me and we will take them into consideration. like i said this is your meet and we want it to be the best and most enjoyable ever. bill
  13. your right the wing does show its weight at low speeds i feel more secure when i come to a stop on the wing. although i would'nt win any contests around pylons. it's still a 900 lb. bike.
  14. yellow is cool. and they look sharp, but not to inconspicuous. there is a guy in our area that rides a yellow wing. he has the whole nine yards. yellow helmet, riding suite, and yellow boots. you can see him coming. he almost resembles a bumble bee.
  15. about the wing foot pegs. i bought my wing on a whim. my wife sat on one in jeff city at my st. charles meet and eat, and said the passenger seat was awesome. i sat on a friend of gary n's wing at my meet and eat, and could flat foot it . my rstd was just to top heavy. i came close to dumping it about ten times at parking lot speeds. i bought a vstar 1300 to replace my rstd but my wife hates it even with the corbin touring seat. so i got a killer deal on the wing on ebay from a dealer in arkansas. my first ride was not a good one. could not get along with the foot pegs. since i was already committed to the bike i went for a long saturday ride and decided the bike and i are going to have it out. rode about 300 miles and when i got home had all my problems ironed out. i love the seating position my leg problems have all but gone away. i realized i was not used to bending my legs that far and my tendons were getting tight. thought it was old age. wrong. been riding bikes with pegs all my life so figured it's not the bike it's me. my legs aren't back to the shape when i was 16 but i don't limp any more and i can actually lift my feet and get them up on the pegs on my zx14. i rode it 100 miles and no leg discomfort whatsoever. i ultra, ultra love my wing. i loved my rstd. some times you have to move on and find something more fitting.
  16. is there free shipping on the cigar. congradulations, glad to here the great news. bill :clap2:
  17. love the addition of the tire pressure indicator and making the heated seat and grips standard .that accounts for the price increase on the standard model. don't know if i could handle the yellow.
  18. the venture handles pretty good for a big touring bike. i had an rstd with the venture trunk. the wing has a much lower center of gravity due to the aluminum frame and low profile motor. my rstd was heavier to drive into the curves and a little more top heavy. the wing has a very rigid frame and does not wallow like my rstd did. the wallowing was a little unerving at times if you hit a bump at a high degree of lean angle. the wing on the other hand wants to take you deeper into a curve if you let it. i have folded my highway boards up several times on my wing and drug my toe on the ground. i have shorter chrome pegs so i haven't touched them yet. at least i haven't looked. it can make you over confident in the twisties if your not careful. had a slight rain the other day and got the rearend loose in a curve.think i hit some anti freeze. got it right back no problem. i have a secluded clover leaf that i kind of test lean angle on once in awhile my scooter and rstd maxed out about 45 and my wing will pull 50 before things start dragging. my zx14 will probably make 55 or a little more. i don't make a habit of driving crazy but once in awhile when i'm out alone with no cars on the road i get a little agressive. the limiting factor on the wing is things draggingif the wing had about a 3inch shorter wheel base it would be awesome in the handling department. it is one long bike.
  19. i would never berate a venture or rstd, i loved mine. here are some of the things i like about my wing. frame mount fairing, great weather protection. no engine heat, ultra premium audio with plug and play for any device or lighting you want to put anywhere on the bike. single sided swingarm with easy wheel removal no splines to grease, antidive, sportbike like handling with no frame flex, consistant 45 mpg, 1800 cc of balls out stump pulling power from idle to redline, engine smooth as glass even at 1200 rpm two up in 5th gear. fuel injection, electric adjustable head light and rear suspension with digital read out, reverse, interlock brakes, height adjustment on windshield, i can flat foot it and bend my knees. heated seat and grips, gps, abs, airbag, and lower leg warmers available as an option. loads of accessories available at very reasonable prices. wings aren't that expensive if you shop around. i gave $ 16750.00 out the door for my 08 premium audio. and i can extend the honda 3yr. warranty anytime in the next 3 years another 4 yrs for a total of 7 yrs unlimited mileage for $480.00. from direct line parts. i am totally comfortable with the foot pegs now and hardley ever use my highway boards. there is no comparison between the 1500 wing and the 1800 totally different bikes from the ground up.
  20. counting the days for the st. jude ride. coming from st. charles, mo. down hwy. 55. anyone want to ride along? leaving st. charles at 5 am. if it rains i am going to cage it. but i will be there. who all is going. lets here it from you. i am planning to make it a round trip on saturday, but may stay over in memphis and come back sunday morning. this is one great must do meet. the bunch that did it last year will agree with me for sure. hope to see a bunch of our members there. bill :clap2::clap2:
  21. gee, i did'nt think my new wing was such a crappy bike. maybe i should rethink the mistake i made buying it. of course i am old and only old guys ride wings. i even need a blockand tackle to get on it . it's so tall. sure will cut the curves as fast as the best of them and out run most of them. guess i'll keep it another year or two. maybe i will find a flaw in it. us old guys need a quiet smooth bike so we can get our rest.
  22. both great bikes. which ever one you like is what is best.
  23. there are lots of chrome shops in the bigger cities. i use st. louis plating alot 314-652-0488. they have been at it for years and do bike parts only. not cheap due to the epa. they do aluminum, and stainless steel. also polishing. you can ship the parts to them. just tell the lady scooterguy from st. charles told you to call. they do all my plating and it is show chrome. bill
  24. kind of have to agree with you. i loved my rstd but was constantly down shifting to keep it on the power band. it would really buck if you got the revs to low. don't down shift my v-star 1300 near as much. seldom ever need to down shift my wing. once in fifth gear you leave it there. think my vstar might out run my rstd. feels awful strong.
  25. i am kinda proud of it. he has about $40,000.00 dollars in it figuring cnc programing and all the other crap. almost everything on it is reproduction including the custom built frame. the only original cushman part is the rear hub and brake drum. even has custom made hydraulic front disc brakes. thats my shop that the pictures were taken in. he wanted me to keep building them to sell, but it was just to much work. most long drawn out build i have ever done and will never tackle something like that again. he is in the process of reverse engineering it and building one for a guy up north. i had one i built for myself that looked just like it with an automatic transmission several years ago. he wanted a four speed cuz he liked to shift but i think the automatic would beat it. got one in the works now that i am building with a brand new oem 1953 crosely engine and an automatic. had to stretch the frame 5 inches to mount the engine longetudinal. some of the members here that have been in my shop have probably seen it. kind of lost interest but someday i will finish it. bill
