well, this is about as far as I got...mebbe I should ride one eh? But, I sure wasn't impressed with the limited space in the "space-like" side bags...

Another suggestion is Cranbrook, BC. or somewhere in that area. There is a lot of camping and lakes around there and a few great backroads. The town of Kimberly is close by and is a real cool place to visit. http://city.cranbrook.bc.ca/ http://www.city.kimberley.bc.ca/siteengine/activepage.asp?PageID=1

OK, answer to Q#1 I only had one new bike and that was the first one... a 1969 Yamaha 125cc twin 2-stroke. I blew the motor twice and sold it with probably 2500 miles on it LOL Answer to Q#2 I am seriously going to be looking at the new Kawasaki Voyager. Based on current riding, it would take me 10-15 years to put 100,000 miles on. I hope to change that once I retire.

I'm thinking the 3rd gen Venture will be styled more like the Victory Vision or the BMW... I really think Yamaha will move away from the current design. I do feel that whatever the design is, it will be a "leader".

I've test ridden 3 Nomads ... 1st one was a 1500... other 2 were 1600. Definately smooth for a V-twin but very under-powered compared to Venture & HD IMHO ... never rode them long enuf to comment on the seat other than to say I liked the positioning relative to handlebars.

I just came across this... Kawi claims a beefy torque peak of 108 ft-lbs at 2750 rpm, with a horsepower peak of 89 at 5000 revs.

I've been using NGK's for years and have been using the Irridium ones for about 5 or 6 years. I've had my '87 for 3 summers now with same irridium plugs. I too stopped using champion plugs many years ago...they never seemed to stand up and yep, I found they broke easy.

Water Pump Knock??
SilvrT replied to Tartan Terror's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Not sure if it's exactly the same as yours but both this bike and my '85 have an intermittent "knocking" sound coming from the water pump area. I totally rebuilt the water pump on my '85 and it didn't make a lick of difference. Because of that and since it's intermittent and never seemed to be a "real" problem, I simply ignore it. -
Some interesting comparison's seeing as how one of our members has moved to a new HD Ultra ('09 model) and in doing so, got me interested. Voyager 103.7ci 107.8 lb-ft @ 2,750 rpm Compression: 9.5:1 09 Ultra 96.00 cu. in. 92.60 ft lbs @ 3500 rpm Compression: 9.2:1 Regardless of the horsepower rating, this new Voyager (and it is all-new including the engine apparently) is looking very impressive in my book.

Pilot...you done went and did it now buddy....got me droolin over that 09 Ultra. I did some reading up on them and yesterday went down to the Harley shop and checked a couple out, talked to the sales guy... it was good. Prices here are... $21,500 for the standard Electraglide "classic", $24,500 for the Ultra and $25,500 for 2-tone paint. I'm looking forward to next spring when they have them on their rental fleet and I can take one out for a day. Pending that experience, I'm seriously contemplating biting the bullet and letting my banker fork out the bucks for me. Heck, the new RSV's are right around $22,000 and frankly, this new Ultra is much more appealing.

SilvrT replied to 6m459's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
I had mine done on my '85. Did a whole lotta lookin for somebody who could do it...got a tip from a local Suzuki dealer and he steered me to an autoglass shop that also did upholstery. I got the seat and backrest recovered for $250 and it was a real nice job done in 2 different colors (tan & black) Do some chekkin around...I'm sure you'll find a good shop there somewhere. -
looks great... curious to know how you managed to retain the stock striping? did you re-do it or mask it or what?

2005 Rebuild questions
SilvrT replied to Wildgoose's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
Goose... just wondering what you "stole" the scoot for ($$$)? I am looking at a 2005 RSMV that has been dumped ... has quite a bit of damage to the fairing, bags, trunk, gas tank, etc but frame, engine, suspension appear good. I can do a lot of the fixing myself but kinda curious what a person should really pay for something like this? The guy is asking $4995. -
Read it? hcek...taht's how I gnerllay tpye thnigs ... and I thought I was just getting old. (oops)

I run both here at work ... no problems at all Works fine on my system at home but I don't run OpenOffice at home...just Office 2003 on Vista Home Premium. (yes, I had to take it coz it came with my new PC which I had to buy in a panic so to speak but it seems to be working fine except I can't use my scanner no more )

I generally do the same when passing those 18 wheelers (gun it) but sometimes, on a freeway or other 4-laner, you can get stuck beside them, depending on the traffic in front of you. Unfortunately, situations such as these are part of the risks we take riding a motorcycle. I've always wondered what would happen when riding behind or beside one of these "bad boys" when a tire recap blows off. It's one of those things I try not thinking about coz that thought scares the crap outta me. I certainly don't want to have the opportunity to relay THAT experience! On the other hand, just being able to relay it to us, like you did, is a good thing coz you got through it safely.
