  1. Price appears reasonable ... make sure you give it a real good road test before making an offer.
  2. Anything NEW will be beyond my price range unless I win the Lotto. I'll be looking at Wings somewhere between 2001 & 2004 when I am ready to make that move.
  3. :rasberry: Maybe I'll buy an older vMax or Royal Star just for messin around on.... (and to avoid the "traitor" label..)
  4. Question for ya ... both Wings I rode were 2003 models (yes, the Honda dealer was demoing used bikes). I found that both of them seemed to "bang" and have what seemed to be something loose near the rear when going over bumpy areas on the street such as railroad tracks or potholes. Is this normal?... maybe just the plastic rattling? Seemed the rear suspension hits harder than the RSV.
  5. True... it will take some getting used to the footpegs (but all my prev bikes were footpegs); however, highway pegs are available.
  6. Went to the Gastown motorcycle show 'n Shine yesterday. Loads of amazing bikes there and so many people came out as the weather was hot. Sorry, no pics...forgot the camera at home. ENNYHOO ... Honda Canada was doing demo rides so Nina & I got to take a spin on a Wing. Now this was the second time I rode a newer Wing but the first time for Nina to ride. Most of the demo was in heavy city traffic but did get to see how it handled on the highway and in corners as well...even a tight 90 degree one at 3 times the posted limit (which was 20 km/h) and I think I dragged something on that one! Well, for those who have one, you know what I'm talkin about here. This bike is nothing short of a breeze to drive. It takes the corners effortlessly. It weaves thru heavy traffic on the freeway without even thinking about it. I looked where I wanted to go and it was if the scoot read my mind because in a flash, I was there. And the POWER!!! It's awesome! Slow speed balance is far superior to our RSMV ... even just coming to a stop ... I could practically come to a full stop and not even put my foot down... Oh yeah, and REVERSE sure was nice getting it back into the parking spot! The downside ... and I only have two. Nina found the seat too "recliner style" ... if that makes any sense. She prefers to sit up straighter but the seat seemed to force her to slouch. ... no biggie... we can fix that. In opposite, I found the seat caused me to sit up straighter ... but that is ok except the handlegrips were lower than I like ... again, no biggie... we can fix that. So, in as much as WE like our RSMV .... sometime before next summer it will most likely be replaced with a WING. See ya at that other "dark side".
  7. This comment just made me think of something... About 5 years ago I test drove a new RSTD and I found I could scrape the floorboards quite easy when going around corners (as in turning off one street onto another...slow speed, 90 degree turn) ... yet I have not once done that on my RSV. I'm wondering if there is less ground clearance on the RSTD than there is on the RSV? I don't see that tho as it's just a trimmed down version of the RSV. ... maybe there was no air in the rear shock?? hhmmmmmmmm
  8. Ditto on the superbrace and progressive springs... had both in my '85 and I took that baby up to (almost) 230 km/h and it was extremely stable. I say "almost" coz at that speed, I was more intent on the road ahead and only glanced at the speedo.
  9. bike??? where??? all I see is a woman's A___
  10. thanks M8t ... I await your followup with baited breath LOL
  11. hmmmmmmm... can you elaborate on this? specifically what spacers are you referring to here??
  12. heh.. Monty, I been working professionally with computers since 1987 - 23 years ... and it never fails... just when ya think ya know "most everything", it all changes and then ya have to learn a bunch more ... (thank you Mr Gates! LOL) I've just upgraded our Windows 2003 servers to new ones with server 2008 .... there's similarities but so many differences and new things!! Next month we're upgrading/replacing 7 of our workstations to Windows 7 & Office 2010 .... ggrrrrrrrrrrrr ... more chit to learn! and inevitably, more incompatibilities to be discovered.
  13. As long as the plastic that is damaged is fixable (and you can do that yourself) or you can get replacement parts cheap and the engine running gear is good then it's probably worth while. I looked at one a couple years ago but it was too busted up to take the chance. Fairing, tank, lowers, trunk and bags were all damaged yet the bike still ran and drove good.
  14. The above method works in other programs too such as MS Word or Excel you can also use Ctrl + or Ctrl - but it doesn't work that way in all other progs.
  15. I use the engine for braking a lot and most of the time, use the front brake in conjunction with the back. I'm glad for the hint on this site that suggested swapping the inner & outer otherwise I would have been on metal long before now.
  16. looks cool but really... once you're on 4 wheels ..... it's just a cage with no roof that seats 2
  17. I was able to get the "HH" pads from a local supplier. Glad I checked them before my trip in Sept pulling the trailer coz we'da been broke down somewhere had I not... either that or the brakes that were there woulda failed and we'd never have to worry bout nuffin no moa ...
  18. Interesting that the big ice cream cone isn't melted......
  19. Additional grommets are a "snap" to put in ... so are those button snaps. You can get a little "kit" for installing them.
  20. I think it's because they haven't bothered to "go the distance" in finding a proper solution and having a mated set machined. Either that or it was too costly to a) have mated sets machined and b) replace both under warranty. I do know that "way back when" they did take gear lash measurements and Yamaha would then ship out a basket that supposedly would mate to that but I think it became too much of a "hassle". (this according to a mechanic at a local Yammi shop who's been around quite a while) ahhhhhhh so here's a reasonable answer...
  21. Just curious how many miles you guyz are getting on a set of rear brake pads. I just pulled mine @ 27,660 kilometes (17,187 miles). These are the OEM "original" pads (first time change). I swapped them side-to-side about 8,000 km ago and now the outer is almost to the metal and the inner ain't got much more than that. I do use my front brake a fair amount and they still have lots of wear left.
  22. Why is it that some whine and some don't and the one's that do, we change the basket on and some the whine goes away or diminishes and others it doesn't ..... I believe it's because the basket gears and the primary gears are not a mated set and it's just by LUCK that some mate while others don't. Having said that, it's just like playing the lottery ... you might hit the jackpot but most likely you'll not win or get a small payoff (aka some whine reduction).
  23. what year of Harley are you hearing... 1948? Today's Harley engines are much quieter than our RSV engines IMHO. If only my engine was as quiet as my son's 2003 1200cc Sportster.... Even my 2 1st gen's engines were quieter than this '06 yet the Sporty engine is still quieter than they were. And I'm talking when it's not moving ... just sitting there running... even revving it up ... the HD engine is very tight and quiet in comparison.
  24. I'll be watching for this in Sept when we go on holidays.... pulling the trailer for the first time. As for the whine coming back .... I think it's slightly louder now than it was when I first put the "I" basket in but still not enough to be bothersome. I will say this tho ... even though I really like this RSMV, I hate the noisyness of the engine and if the whine does get worse, I will be selling it. I am looking at 3 possible replacements already ... a Wing, an HD Ultra, or the new Victory Cross Country with the optional trunk. The first 2 I've ridden .... now to find a dealer who will allow a demo ride on the Victory. Speaking of which, has anyone ridden the new Cross Country from Victory???
