  1. Try this link for the manual. http://labs.trunkful.com/vrmanuals/index.cfm
  2. Nice looking ride. I'm sure you will enjoy her. Sounds like you have already been looking for the fixes. There is a great group here and always willing to give advice. If you haven't found it yet, Use the Search function. At the bottom is the google search and them check the www.ventureriders.org button and it will help a bunch. Welcome to the site.
  3. Paypal sent. Hope things get better. Prayers are with you.
  4. Put the bike on center stand. Pull plastic (sides and around the front). Disconnect battery Empty Radiator ( big hex head on the right side of the engine.) Remove Radiator and fan Take the front right (standing on the bike) Exhaust pipe loose from head. Need this to access the back screw on the thermostat housing. Remove thermostat , Two screws. Take wire off the starter Pull the two bolts holding the starter Pull the starter and then reverse the steps. Don’t forget to open the bypass when refilling the radiator. That is the Hex head on the tube in front of the engine under the radiator. You might want to replace the O -ring in the bypass while you are there. Turn it to on while filling the system and warming the engine then turn back to “ off “ after it is filled. If I missed anything someone jump in. Good luck, It will make a big difference in starting.
  5. You need to check the two rubber plugs (per Carb) at the back of the jet holder. I understand if they leak it can cause idle problems. You should check the main diapharms for pin holes On the 87 I picked up last year they looked more like cheese cloth. Use a bright light behind them to check for holes. Good luck with your bike.
  6. I mounted one of these on my 83 and hooked it to the existing speakers and didn't work to bad. With all the wind noise anyway crystal clear recepetion isn't needed. This also has a jack for your Ipod to plug in. http://www.ebay.com/itm/12V-FM-MOTORCYCLE-RADIO-WATERPROOF-SPEAKER-MP3-INPUT-/390333284964?pt=Motorcycles_Parts_Accessories&hash=item5ae1ad4264&vxp=mtr
  7. Here is a site with some of the known problems with a 1 Gen. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=1066 The ultimate fix on the slow starter is to change to a 2nd gen starter with four brushes instead of two. Made a world of difference on starting my 87. As for parts there are several online places to get parts and Ebay is very helpful for new and used parts. There is also a section for member vendors like Skydoc17. http://www.venturerider.org/classifieds/showproduct.php?product=3770&title=first-gen1983-to-1993-vr-needle-shim-mod-kit-21&cat=22 Good luck with your new ride and enjoy it. You may want to go to the Maintenance day at Freebirds in your area on June 8th. Go to the calendar fuction at the top and go to the month of June. If you go there there will be all kind of great people and very helpfull. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/calendar.php?do=getinfo&day=2013-6-8&c=1
  8. I think it depends on the type of Floor board you get. Here are some pic's of some of mine the 1 one ( silver engine and "red " bike is on 83 I don't own anymore). It bolted to the front section of the engine. Second and third pic's ( black engine and red bike) is on a different 83 front brace goes under engine. Forth pic is off 87 Royale also has brace under the front of the engine. All of these have heel toe shifters. Don't know if these will help you of not.
  9. Rapid Fix is good stuff. Tack it together with a little of the "glue tube " then cut a grove in the back side of the break then add the power and a drop or two of the glue. You will most likely sand it down to flatten out the back side. It gets hard immediately. Good Luck
  10. I readjusted the idle mix screws and it didn't seem make any difference the bike would hold idle for a short time then rev up all by itself. The vacuum is somewhere alittle over 4 Inches at 1000 RPM. I had a IgniTech aftermarket TCI that I purchased for another bike a couple years ago and since I had things that far open I replaced the TCI with the IgniTech TCI and plugged the vacuum port On #2 now she holds the idle. Put the seat on and took it for a short ride and it seem to run well. I've got some other things to do before I dress her back up. Thanks all for the help.
  11. I don't understand this. The original only has a vacuum post off #2 to the "Vacuum advance" the YICS chamblers does not interconnect between #1 and 2 Cylinders? Please explain? Also with this how are you connecting #1 and #2 cylinders together? Are you using the YICS ports instead of the regular port off the Carb on #2 ? Marcarl, There was no restrictor in the vacuum line to the "Vacuum advance" line so I stole one off my 87 to see if it would help. Did not seem to make much difference. Is this just a very small hole to dampen the vacuum fluctuation. I did not see it listed as a part you can buy anymore ( at least on the site I was looking at Cycle parts warehouse). It still will not hold a steady idle will set at around 1000 RPM's and it will be fine for a little while then, all be itself, will ramp up to around 2800 RPM. When I readjust it down it will hold a little while then may decay down and die. Reving it up with the throttle it seems fine but the RPM's seem like they drop slower than I would expect. Checked the idle mix jet screws and they are all set at 1 and 3/4 turns out. The vacuum is still around 4 to 5 inches when its running at 1000 Rpm shouldn't this be closer to 9 inches? But I do have them all in the same neighborhood. Timgray, I do have spark on # 3 cylinder. It was almost out of gas so I added a a couple of quarts of fesh gas and about 1/2 can of B12 chemtool and will let it set overnite to see if that helps. Thanks again for the ideas and advice. We'll keep trying.
  12. Picked up an 83 venture a couple weeks ago. Last year I helped PO clean the carbs and couldn’t get the carbs to sync well at that time. But ran out of time to work on it then. He quit riding it last summer and I now have the bike. Had to use starting fluid to get a cold start up. When I pulled the plugs 1,2,and 4 looked about right but #3 was more black. I adjusted the valves and replaced the fork seals this week. It now starts up without the starting fluid. I noticed that #3 does not heat up as quickly as the others. I removed the YISC system and plugged the outside ports with caps and installed bolts in the center two hoses. Replaced the vacuum hose off #2 cylinder to the (vacuum advance). Bike still has the original TCI. Now the idle is not consistent will set a around 1000 RPM and it will run for awhile then ramp up to around 2800 RPM. When I readjust the idle it will hold for awhile then it may decay to around 500 RPM or die. Kinda acts like #3 cylinder kicks in when it revs up. Vacuum readings on one and two are pretty consistent but 3 and 4 don’t want to settle in. The other thing is the readings at 1000 RPM are about 4 to 5 Inches and 3and 4 are lower at 1000 RPM and all four will go to around 11 inches when it runs up around the 2800 RPM. Seems low if I remember correctly show be closer to 9 inches ar 1000 RPM. I sprayed starter fluid around the intakes and really didn’t see increase in RPMs. Wonder if I need to pull the carbs again? Could it be the old rubber plugs in the carb jet holder? The gas is from last summer but I added about ¼ can of B12 chemtool to it only about ¼ tank left. Just looking for other ideas. Maybe need to put it back together and run it some with some new gas. Sorry or the long history . Thanks in advance.
  13. There is a big fuse coming right off the battery. It the red wire with a little retangluar box that has a main fuse in it. If you have a Volt Ohm meter you can check it or a test 12 volt light on the side away from the battery to ground and it should light up if it good. Just some other things to check quickly. THe run stop switch on the right handle bar in the run position? Your not stopping at the ACC position on the key switch? Is the bike in neutral and/or is the side stand up and have you tried to hold the clutch in while starting? If the side stand is down there should be a indicator on the top left of the CMU (middle of the dash just under the warning light). Are you sure you got the starter gears correctly reinstalled they were in the stator side cover toward the front. You might try pulling the small round cover ( two Phillips head screws) off the left side of the bike a (I believe it has a 19 MM nut inside. Put a wench on it and turn it counter clock wise. If it moves OK, Then I would use a jumper cable from the battery directly to the positive post on the starter to see if the bike will turn over. Good Luck
  14. 2003 Goldwing 1987 Venture Royale 1983 Venture 1997 750 Vulcan 2003 Burgman 400 Scooter (wifes bike) 1980 Suzuki Gs 850 L Did not include 1983 Venture parts bike I like fix'n up old bikes.
  15. You might try "RAPID FIX" on it. I've had good luck repairing faring cracks or missing pieces with it. Very strong repair can be sanded and painted if your repair is visable. I found it at my local Auto parts store put here is a link thats alot cheaper than I have found it. http://www.jbtoolsales.com/rapidfix-5121700-dual-adhesive-system-0-5ml/
  16. Welcome to he site and alot of great people and advice. Good luck with your new project.
  17. You might look into a Laminar lip if you don't want to replace the windshield. Don't know how well they work. http://www.laminarlip.com/products.php
  18. Don't remember were I read it but yes it should be at the bottom. Thats what it shows on the carb diagram/ section view in the manual page 5-2.

I went to Michigan Tech a few years ago, almost 40 years ago. I moved a few miles south now I live south of Houston, Tx. Just to make you feel better I was riding today, it was in the mid 40's here.
  20. Look nice. I'm sure you will enjoy it. I spend at least half my time in mine.
  21. You might put a battery charger on to make sure you don't run down the battery. Otherwise I believe you have it.
  22. This should get people out into the country side. How about a picture of you, your bike, and a pasture or meadow with at least 10 cows or cattle in the field. Not a stock yard. Happy hunting. Extra points if they are Longhorns or Brahma’s. Joy is walking thru a pasture and realizing that its not mud squeezeing through your toes.
  23. Will this one work?
  24. First thing I would do even before you get a key made is make sure the engine isn't locked up take the smal round cover on the left side of the bike and make sure the motor will turn with a socket on the bolt in the center. The manual for the bike is on line at http://labs.trunkful.com/vrmanuals/index.cfm. If it turns over you will need to change the fluids. THe carbs will most likely need to be pulled and cleaned and check out the diaphrams for holes and look for rust in the gas tank. Theres a good write up on problems on a 1 gen. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=1066 You will most likely have to tear into the brakes. The one I rebuilt had sat for about 5 years and the brake system was full of a white gellatain " that needed to be cleaned out of everything. When you run into some thing you can first use the search function at the top then go to the bottom of that window and use the goggle search for the key words, don't forget to change the button at the bottom to search the venture riders site. Then if you don't find an answer post a question and this group will respond, there is a wealth of knowledge and very helpful people. Good luck with the project and welcome to the group.
  25. Great milestone Perry. And the Bike still looks great even with that old man riding her. Keep on ridn'.
