Cougar replied to Seaking's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Wish I was out Riding ALL day! -
Yeah, It was kind of hard to figure out witch one was where when pulling them off and tring to keep them in the same. like I said there was not one of them was the same, it was like a bad rubics cube

Thanks Mr Squeeze Now all I need is the NEW parts least I am this far into the project.
-
Gary, I was just going to ask that Question . THANKS I did notice a sharp side and a rounded side. thinking of placing the sharp side inward. My Other Question am I screwed If I put the friction plates in the right way now? Since I have no clue now how they were before (all over the place) the Notches. One more. Do I just Soak the new friction plate as the others have already been oil soaked? How long DO I need to leave the new plate in the oil for? Thanks
-
Dan, there were no (2) Aligned up the same. ALL different directions. *oops* Well now I gatta make them all the same as I have taken them off already But it did work this way for 4 years

Found the (..) Dots on the basket at 5 O'Clock.. I AM SO GLAD I DECIDED TO DO THIS MOD to find out what a crappy job those mechanics did. I still wonder why it work for so long? I just like knowing the theory behind having them matched up At least it will be the right way now. Steel Plates look real good as well, no glazing. Can not wait to get my new parts!
-
Also, it say's there is line-up marks at 11 o'clock and 5 o'clock. I do not see any on the basket.
-
This is the ONLY thing that I did NOT do.. myself. As it was under warranty work for a (I) basket change. So.... What do I do? they should all be lined up correct? And how come this has worked for the past 4 years this way?

After looking at this article ... http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=10518 and viewing this picture... My friction plates are not lined up like that. I did have a new clutch basket installed about 4 years ago. maybe the mechanic messed it up? I noticed that on mine that are scattered all over the place ,there are some plates with one notch and some with two notches. any input on this guys? Thanks, Jeff

Notice the hole in the fairing frame as well right under it.. Mine is apart and I am in the garage, with computer. and I am not sure why there is not a bolt going through there as well. there is a bolt on the back one though. -
You can also use a small modeling brush and enamel modeling paint as well on the needles, Monty is right on the sticking part just move them from time to time while paint is curing.
-
When I went ever farther doing the back-ground color plates it was messing with my volts settings. try and be more careful when taking them ALL to way apart. Just for painting the needles is not to bad. I would never attempt to go as far a I did in the future on the sunpro's as I did if I know what I know now about there insides
-
A tiny screw driver and keep lifting as you go around the back side. I also when to the arts and crafts store and got a pair of rubberized needle-nosed pliers to crimp them back down after doing the mods on them. You can not take apart the Equus Gauges. other wise I would paint the just the needles in them as well. you can just use a black sharpee to paint them .

Looks to me that you did a fine job on the fronts. yep, it is pretty hard to get those to stay in there. -

SAND, SAND and MORE SAND. for another month and a few good rains. Not understanding why folks ride with so much sand on the roads still Let alone the road chemicals junk that is still on the roads as well, not a good mix ! just my 2 cents. And heck I gots 3 wheels Oh, and the HUGE Pot holes Sheesh !

And I woke up from a wonderful NAP, to read this stuff? OH MY!
-
Enjoy or ride and do not worry about the oil not being non synthetic for this change. it will not hurt anything. as long it is for wet clutches. You are so lucky to be able to ride, I will not be riding for another 2 weeks I am hoping. watch out for sand if you live in snow country! BE SAFE! ENJOY! Jeff

SahWhheet!

Wish you would have posted about the broken glass. I have 3 of them sitting right here I would have sent you one. I also did the same thing as you did. but now I am switching over to the Equus gauge's. Looks great, and I know what you went through taking those rings off as well Jeff

Thanks.. Yes I was wondering how you would clean the friction plates to sand or blast them. So I will blast just the steel then. As I only have about 13 K on my friction plates. I have not even got my parts yet *LOL* but learning lots. this will be done next week. I will to the stater next winter. I am thinking with the heaver load on the trike. this would be a good thing to do. do NOT worry, I will be asking more Questions Later !

Squid, so I do nothing with my regular plates correct ? Just bead blast the new steel plate? Confused now. but you know me, that happens a lot
