  1. Is the "whine" covered under warranty? My two biggest complaints about this bike are the whine and the heat coming off the engine...The whine might even cause me to sell the bike at some point. Very disappointing in an otherwise pretty nice ride.
  2. That was a "Fine" reply.
  3. I was messing around in the trunk today and noticed that on both sides of the trunk is a "channel" and there's also a drain on the left side. Then I noticed that the trunk doesn't have a rubber seal? So is the trunk pretty much waterproof or does it leak a lot? Thanks, Wally
  4. It was the stock Bridgestone tire. I'll know more tomorrow when I look at the tire on whether or not it was defective or had a puncture. Wally
  5. I was in the curves around Romance, AR when the bike went squirrelly, not so bad as to lose control, but bad enough to where the back end was "swaying". I was doing about 55mph when this happened and slowed down to about 40mph...it seemed to be OK and then about 2 minutes later...it did it again only worse... I nursed it for another mile or two and then finally stopped in a church parking lot and looked at it and sure enough...it only had about 10 lbs in it. I went ahead and rode it to a gas station (not that much further down the road) and aired the tire up...it stayed up for about 20 minutes and then lost the air again. But I already had my brother coming after me with the trailer and we took the bike at 6:15pm up to the Yamaha store for a new tire. I could not find a puncture in the tire or any nails or any other objects in the tire, but the CENTER of the tire seemed to have cuts in various parts of the tire...but always DEAD CENTER. I am wondering if the tire was defective...I only have 1800 miles on the BIKE!! Has anyone else ever seen a tire do this? Anyway...now I know for sure what it feels like to have a tire go down... Wally
  6. Just an FYI...PayPal and eBay BOTH side with the BUYER about 98% of the time. The buyer has little or no recourse and because of this practice, I will NEVER sell on eBay again. I am in the middle of a CLAIM from a fellow in Hong Kong over a $1000 camera I sold this guy. Basically the facts are that I sold the camera on eBay and requested U.S. Shipping ONLY, and NO RETURNS. The guy from Hong Kong bought and requested the camera be sent USPS priority mail. I had allowed $20 for shipping. I decided to go ahead and sell to this buyer because he did pay with PayPal and thought I would absorb the additional cost to Hong Kong. I was expecting it to cost maybe $35 or so. It cost me $82.00, BUT, I sent it anyway. I sent 6 emails to this guy with NO RESPONSE about possibly splitting some of the shipping cost. He never responded. The camera arrived and then after about 3 days...he responds to me telling me that maybe we could discuss the shipping, but the camera was not as described and he wanted to ship it back and wanted his money back. I sent him an email back stating the camera was in PERFECT OPERATIONAL condition and that $1000 for this camera (originally was $5000) was an excellent deal. Besides, it cost me extra in shipping and I plainly stated on the ad that I would NOT accept returns. He filed a claim and although they have not ruled yet (should be any day now)...I am prepared to return his money...NOW here is the problem. Once he starts the process of returning the camera, PayPal and eBay are NO LONGER involved in the process or dispute. In fact, on the PayPal forums there are MANY claims of getting items back in PARTS, different serial numbers and in some cases...empty boxes...as long as the box is sent certified...that is all that is required. So I will probably be out $1000 and have learned a valuable lesson. But worse than that...I had an eBay rating of 220 points with 100% POSITIVE FEEDBACK. His ONE negative comment dropped my score to 83.6%. And to top it all off....SELLERS can no longer leave NEGATIVE feedback on buyers...you can only leave POSITIVE feedback. THAT SUCKS. Now I know there are lots of BUYERS that get ripped off, and Snaggletooth you sound like that was about to happen to you...I am glad you were able to work your issue out...it seemed like a DELIBERATE ploy on the buyers part to get your money and not send you an item...I glad you called him out and got your money back. Just remember...PayPal and eBay are almost ALWAYS on the side of the BUYER though...if you sell something...be prepared to always return the money and accept the possibility that you might not get the item back in the same shape as you shipped it to the buyer.
  7. OK...I got my shortened kickstand back from JerryW (excellent job by the way) and now I am ready to put it on the bike... I have done a search and actually was surprised to see nothing in the Venture Libraries about removing the side stand. What is the easiest procedure to do this...can I do it while someone HOLDS the bike up (since I don't have a bike lift)...and how hard is it to replace the spring back on? Any help (pics would be nice) would be greatly appreciated...especially if in a step by step procedure. Thanks. Wally
  8. After this winter, I swore I would NEVER again complain about ANY temperature above 70 degress....I sure hope I can back it up. LOL :sun1::sun1:
  9. It's acrylic...and that's a deal BREAKER for me. Why would I replace my windshield with another one when there is a shield MUCH safer and less scratch resistant. The vent is no big deal to me and I have hear LOTS of people say that vents offer little or no help with moving air around behind the shield. I'm going with the F4 when I get mine. Wally
  10. When I upgrade my windshield, I WILL be buying the F4 (vent or no vent). I believe the Polycarbonate shield is much more durable and SAFE. Wally
  11. You might try ebay....Pinwall has almost anything on eBay you can think of... Yeah, the NEW RSV kickstand is over $200...It must be the chrome plated GOLD bar.
  12. You're right Cougar...most of the time on luggage rack...but he watched me do a little mod today. Thanks guys...Like i said before...it's more practical than purty. But I still think it turned out pretty well. Wally
  13. Ooops...I forgot the tray underneath the carpeted liner...So my tray actually holds a CRUZER TOOLS tool pouch, a progressive tire pump, a dial tire gauge, tire repair kit, wire, zip ties (numerous sizes), and electrical tape (in a plastic bag). Yep...all in there. The tool kit not only has the normal tools...but I even have a metric socket set. AND underneath the tray in the depressed area...the ORIGINAL tool kit is still in there.
  14. OK...my lazy butt went out and took a few pics...it really does look pretty good...of course if I did another one, I could get it even closer to a tight fit...HOWEVER, too tight a fit and the liner just does not go in really easy. Here are the pics... Wally
  15. OK...no pictures yet, but maybe tomorrow. Now some background. I love the size of the saddle bags, but the little rectangle depressions in each saddle bag are kinda useless and the RSV toolkit barely fits in there. So I thought I would see what I could do to make it more TOOL friendly and also less disruptive when I have my saddle bags packed. Here's what I decided to do with the RIGHT SIDE saddle bag to make it more organized. First I went to WallyWorld (no not my house...Walmart), and purchased a plastic tray (kitchen area)...which was 6"x15"x2"...I think it cost about $10. Next, I took the foam rubber liner out and traced it on some HEAVY card board and cut it out with a sharp knife so that I had an identical copy of the liner (except in cardboard). Then I velcroed the tray to the bottom of the saddle bag and butted the end up against the BACK of the saddle bag (actually not butted...I left about 1/8th of an inch)....so that the tray sat off centered and towards the back. I took my cardboard copy and laid it in the saddle bag and marked where the FRONT of the tray was located on the liner. Once I had it marked, I took out the cardboard liner and cut the liner along the mark I made for the tray. So I now have two card pieces...the back end and the front end. I cut another piece of cardboard 6" wide and 2" tall. (this was to be my hinge. I attached the small cut piece to the back piece with duct tape and left about a 1/8th inch gap and then attached the front piece and also left about 1/8" gap and again secured it with duct tape. Now I had a single piece of liner made out of cardboard that had a "step" or hinge towards the front. I secured the hinge so that it would be flexible and yet still strong by using more duct tape. OK...so now I am done with the liner and set it into the saddle bag OVER the long rectangle tray and then the front portion rested on the bottom of the saddle bag. PERFECT FIT!!! Now, to make it look better I had bought some trunk carpet at AutoZone and I cut a piece larger than the liner and then spray 3M adhesive over the top of the liner and then mounted the CARPET to the cardboard and pressed it all in place. It works PERFECTLY and takes up only a little more space than not having it all, BUT gives me a placed to "hide" my tools, gauges and other maintenance items I don't use that often. It looks MUCH better than the original liner and is much more efficient use of space (for me at least). I will add pictures tomorrow. Wally
  16. Good one!
  17. But you'll have a "SWELL" time.
  18. EXCELLENT FIND!!! They are backordered right now, but I I got put on their list and will order the 3 pack once they are selling them again. Very good. Wally
  19. Just curious, is there a "shortie" or "quickie" version of a cover that you can put on the bike...most of the covers talked about in the other thread were full covers that covered the bike from front tire to back tire. I am more interested in the fairing and then maybe just the seats and/or speakers. Or what about 2 separate covers one for the back and one for the fairing? I mean, I don't care if the rest of the bike gets wet. Or even on sunny days, I am still really on interested in covering the top of the bike. Does anyone else want a cover similar to this...or better yet, have one/ Thanks, Wally
  20. Yeah...those are some good pics...but I want to make sure those are the same as the ones seen at the STAR site...in their pics, I don't see as much hardware.
  21. Well, since my dealer here in Searcy does not have an "air pump" on the premises, I had to go ahead and buy one (which will probably only get used a couple of times), but at least I have it now. I may decide to RENT it to my dealer for $79.95/hour though. Wally
  22. Sling, are these the ones that Star sells? They look a little different, or are these some custom made vents. Thanks, Wally
  23. I am thinking of purchasing some lower wind vents (I am already feeling the heat)...and have only seen one picture of them installed....and the angle was from the front, which meant you could barely see the vents. Could someone post several angles of the vents from the back and also a closer view of the clamps. Thanks, Wally
  24. Micro-economics at it's best.
  25. So what's the next step Jerry. I am interested. Like I said, I have an extra kickstand I can send or exchange. Wally
