If you want to Remove both fairings, find all the parts from a salvage bike, replace the Handle bar Swich Units, and make a lot of new wireing runs. Most likley replaceing the entire wireing harness from the newer model would be the eaisest way to get all the new wireing in place. It could be done. But--- lots of work, your money would problably be better spent on some other upgrades. I have not heard of anybody doing this, but, there is always a first time. ??

A local dealer, had a New 07 RSV, offered it to me for 12,500.00 4 months ago. Plus, shipping, and State Sales Tax I would check every dealer, in a reasonable distance, see if you can find any new left over 07's or 08's.

'86 RSV Driving Lights
GeorgeS replied to mechanic1's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
I have a set of 35 watt each driveing lights. They use H3 bulbs. I measured the current Draw on everything last Friday. Here are the Numbers. Key On, Engine OFF, Radio + CB On. 1. Fuse's Removed for ALL light systems --- 1.66 Amps 2. Tail lts + Front Markers On, and Low Beam on --- 8.5 Amps 3. Switch to High Beam On -----------------------8.92 Amps 4. All lights On, and Low Beam, And 2, 35 Watt drive--- 15.01 Amps 5. High beam + driveing lights -------------------------- 15.33 Amps 6. Same as test #5 with Brake Lights ON -------------18.91 Amps So, the 35 Watt Driveing lights are pulling about 6.1 AMPS. So, by interopolation, 55 Watt Drive lights would draw about 10.1 Amps. You have about 26 Amps from your Stock Stator, at Average rideing speeds, over average miles driven. You will only get the full 30 Amps, at sustained speeds of over 65 MPH. -
which one to keep?
GeorgeS replied to Kurt827's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Those engines run to 150K plus, don't worry about miles. Sounds like previous Owner has covered all the bases, on Normal Repairs !!! As to the Air Pump, If you put Progressive springs in the front, you don't need air pressure up front. And with the Progressive Springs, you get a much better Ride !!!!! Everybody agrees on that . ( also add a SuperBrace ) Then just pull out the bad Air Pump unit, and Install a line to Fill the Rear Shock with a hand pump ( ie. just like the 2nd Gens are set up ) Easy to do, not sure but I think the parts from a 2nd gen will do the job. You save the weight of all the Air pumping system parts. Also you can now remove the Control Panel for the Air system, and free up some Space on the Panel to use for something else. Meters, Switches, etc etc. I have not done this yet on my 89, but I looking into it, as I allready have the front forks working just fine with no air pressure. Yes Sir!! Keep them both:thumbsup2: -
Cut out the white tatos, and rice!! Replace with whole grain bread, and lots of dark colored vegies !! Replace the taters and rice, with more protien!! Eliminate ALL SUGAR, REPEAT, ALL SUGAR !!!! ( consider the stuff as poison ) Its much worse then fatty foods. Sugar, makes instant fat cells !!! Remember, 1 can of Coke, is 40 grams of sugar !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thats more then is allowed on most diets, for an entire week. Meet me at the gym tomorrow morning, and lets pump some IRON !!! ( I don't mean a Harley )

If a vehical is stolen, I have also heard that, the mfg. can be contacted by law enforcement, and a Satilite Siginal, can activate the Transponder, and pin point the latitude, longtitude of the vehical. I don't know if this is true, but I'm sure the units will be upgraded with that capability at some point.

Speedo groan clarification
GeorgeS replied to Gearhead's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Look at it this way. On a 1st Gen, if over 50K, open the Instrument panel, hand lube the speedo, replace all the bulbs, resolder all the connections on the circuit board, for the warning circuits. ( Not the LED Board ) . Just the one that has two cables pluged into it. In other words, greese the bushing in the Speedo, and greese the drive cable, before it Self Destructs. Do it sooner, or do it later and pay up. !!! -
One fellow, took off his rear wheel to have tire replaced. At dealer, they screwed several sheet metal screws into the old tire before removeing from the rim. Verdict was, it was still holding Air. !! I had a front puncture by a rock early last year. New tire. Ride on in it. About 2 months later I noticed the pressure was down to about 15 lb. after being parked in garage for 2 months. I found the puncture, and replaced the tire. The stuff worked for me. Nuff Said. I buy it by the case now, and put in all my MC tires !!

NO, they will NOT work with STOCK, wireing and switch, Stock does not have a RELAY, and the wireing is only #18 wires, Your Stock Horn is wired to the " Signal " fuse which is allready feeding, Turn sigs, speedo, tack, temp gauge, Brake lights, turn signals, DON'T EVEN THINK ABOUT IT!!! Also, pumping 10 to 15 amps thru the Horn Switch might burn up the switch !! If you make the installation, get a Bosh Relay, and control the Relay with the stock switch, and use #16 or #14 wire to feed voltage thru a NEW Fuse, ( 15 AMP ) to the Relay, and from the Relay to the Horns !!!

They are installed in many more vehicals, then is being divulged to the public. If you get in an accident, the information on the box, also has speed, time, brakeing distance, etc etc. They can figure out from the information on the recorder, if you were in violation of any laws, at the time of the accident !!! If you end up in court, as result of an accident, the Information On the Box, can get you in trouble, if box says you vioated a law leading up to the accident. !!! The units do NOT show up on the Wireing Diagrams of the Vehicals either. I think I read that GM was big on this. If you want to find the thing, you have to hunt for it in the vehical. I also read somplace, that if you find it, and Unplug it, the vehical Will Not Run !! I can't swear to that, but thats what I found, when researching the subject a couple of years ago. But, don't be to concerned, Dingy Harry, and the New Saviour will take care of us ALL, we are in good hands !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Been a few postings latley concerning Stebel Horns, and horns in general. Last few days I've been researching " Horns " as to the loudest avialable. I drove around the other day, looking for " Stebel " Horns, couple of auto parts, and 2 motorcycle dealers. The answer was " we don't carry them " . Hmmm ?? Ok, yesterday I was at local auto parts, to get something else, I noticed Horns on the shelf, labled, " CARRAND HORNS " They were shaped, about the same as the " Volvo Horns " or " Fiamm " car horns that we are all familiar with. These were Labled, " Magnum Blaster, Horn, 138 Decibels " So on close examination, I see they are actually made by " STEBEL " !!! --Apparently, Stebel Horns, are being sold in the U.S. Under other brand Names -- So I bought one, the " High Tone " took it home, and Tried it on The bench with spare Battery, WOW!!! IT WAS LOUD. !!!! I compared to my bike which has 2 of the WOLO, ( same as Volvo, and Fiamm style ) ( 119 DB ) And the original BEEP Beep OEM Yamaha installed. ( total of 4 units installed ) ----- THE ONE, HIGH TONE, STEBEL 138DB WAS LOUDER, THEN THE 4 HORNS INSTALLED ON THE BIKE !!!! ---It actually hurt my ears, the bike installation, did not. ( Test, done , INSIDE the garage, with doors closed ) So I ran down and bought the Low tone, I installed the Two STEBEL's in place of the 2 WOLO's, and My - &*$%^ are they loud. No Air pump to mess with. I have them mounted Inside the Air Intaks on each fairing. Just remove the Plastic Grill, an Stuff them into the Air Intakes. Its a tight fit, but they do go in. The " Carrand Horns " P/n is 3-0115 and 3-0114--- The instructions, claim they should be fused at 10 Amps-- Each---- I am useing a Bosh Relay, and #16 Wires, and have a 15 AMP ATM type, fuse, feeding power to the Bosh Relay. Useing #16 stranded wire, to carry Power. Stock Horn Switch supplies a Ground to the Relay Solinoid. I'm not saying this is the best set-up, but, ---- I'm Happy with it !!!! Beep Beep Beep, ( no more of that nonsence !! ) Bye the way, Its still Raining in Seattle !!!!

battery cables
GeorgeS replied to barend's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Its behing the INNER Wall of the Fairing. About 2 inches fwd, and 3 inches left of the Battery left side. Its there, and Its Important. Remove the bolt head, and Resolder all the Studs to the Black wires there, I think there are 4 black wires Grounded at that point. -
Cut out ALL Sugar !! Thats the one most effective item--- SUGAR = BAD GASOLINE IN YOUR TANK !!!!! Cut the Carbs in half, and double the protien !! I eat lots of Egg whites, and give the Yokes to the Dog !! Those three items, and your on your way, a good start even without going to the Gym

GeorgeS are you OK? I'm very, very worried about you
GeorgeS replied to Dragonslayer's topic in Watering Hole
Here's the deal, There are lots of Rivers out here, they all run West From the Cascade Mts. going to Pudget Sound, or the Pacific Ocean. ( about every 10 miles, North to South, there is a River-- { with Fish } ) I'm on High Ground, about 400 feet down the valley to the Cedar River, I can look down on it from my back yard---- !!! No Problem, as they say. --- It Rained (( POURED )) for about 37 hours straight, about 10 inches around Seattle itself, but much more North and South of the Metro area. ---- Last week the Snow of 2 to 4 feet piled up on the Cascade Range, Temperature went UP-- and the Rainfall was about 15 + inches up in the Mts. So all that snow is melting. Most of the Rivers have a Dam, Up Stream in the Cascades someplace, so they are able to control the Water , MOST, of the time, but not this time. About 25 rivers, hit 15 to 35 feet above Flood Stage, and out here, it happens fast when it happens. So lots of folks that live close to the Rivers ( about 25 of them ) in Washington, got flooded. The last of them are Cresting just about now. ( this afternoon ) I-5, is Closed for 15 miles, near Centrailia, I-90 is Closed in Downtown Seattle because of LandSlide. Also its Closed Over the Cascades, for Avalance Control. I-5 North of Seattle Was closed, but may be back open now. All Highways In Washington State, going over the Cascade Range, ( Canada, to Oregon ) are closed for either, Snow Fall, Water over road, Avalance Control, or Land Slides !!! The Entire Town of Orting, Wa. was evacuated yesterday about 5 PM late afternoon. Water was up 1 to 2 feet over the entire town, the Mayor, gave up and Issused an Evacuation Alert. One guy on a TV Station, made a comment last evening, that EVERY, State and Federal Highway West of the Cascades was Closed down at some Point. Either for Standing Water, of MudSlides. Note: for Easterners, "" Land Slides "" !! are a common occurence out here, as the soil is very Sandy, and Gravely. After long periods of Heavy Rain, it gets Saturated, and just starts to Run down the Hills, ( We have Lots of Hills !!! ) Also, to make it even more fun, All those 100 and 200 ft. Xmas Trees, around here, have very Shallow Root Systems, If you Add Wind on top of all the Water, they start to go over !!!! That turns into lots of Downed Power Lines, The Pinapple Express, is moveing South Into Oregon State, so they are still getting pounded down in Oregon. From What I've heard its worse down there. If your in Idaho, Montana, N.D, Colo, Wyomeing, get ready, the Snow is comeing your way !!!! ---- When I moved here in 1983, I made Darn Sure , I bought a house on HIGH GROUND!!!!! So far, So Good --- knock knock on wood. Anyway, I got the HOT GRIPS, installed this morning--- They work Good !!!!! But it was a pretty long drawn out job installing the wireing -- I might move to Texas !!!!!!!!!!!!!! or somplace ?? -
Very good point !!! Also, as to the Carb heater's, just install a switch to turn them off, if running with heated clothing. Or, just pull the fuse, and forget about them. Thats what I would do .
-
After the Engine Reaches full operating temperatures, the heaters should Turn Off. Or at least they are supposed to. Would not be a factor for long rides, but for sombody who does a lot of just short trips, of say 15 miles, yes this would be another factor, to consider. After considering all this, --- If ---- I were to buy a 2nd Gen. I would Immediatly Install the Aftermarket Stator, AND, an Odyessy Dry Cell Battery.( probably 2 of them ) 27 Amps for a bike this size , is absolutly insane. Its hard to believe Yamaha installed that weak of a charging system on this bike. ( Ahemmmm, I have been quietly looking around for one )

Up to 10 inches Western Coastal areas, Seattle to Central Oregon South. 15 Plus inches over the Cascade Mt. Range. Flood warnings on all western coast Rivers. ( lots of them ) Flood warnings up for the Spokane Wa. and into Idaho. Avalanch Warnings on all Mt. Pass Roads. High Snow Melt rates in the Mt. Ranges due to High Temps. All roads crossing over the Cascade Range from West Coast are a Mess. Don't drive this way !!! Best to take a plane to Hawaii, if you need feel the need to go somplace !!!
-
OK folks, Update from the Weather Man in Seattle !!! The Rain is comeing !!! Starting this afternoon. 20 Inches !!!!! Bye the time that gets to Idaho, and beyond, Its going to be SNOW !!!! Get out there and Sharpen Up your Snow Shovels ----

I am just keeping a daily watch on price. Whenever there is a Drop. I stop and top off the Tank. However this mess in the Middle East, is sure to start effecting the price in the next couple of weeks. All the promised new Gov't Handout programs will have to be paid for, look for gas Tax Hikes. Calif, has been talking a 39 cent / gallon Tax hike on Fuel !!!! They are 40 some Billion in debt down there. Arnold has his hand out !!!
