  1. Any one have a 1st gen front fender lying around and in need of a good home? My current fender is cracking in the area of the mounting holes. I tried epoxy and that appears not to be working . Not sure what years are interchangeable. joe

  3. My 84 has been running great all summer long, until last week. It has sat for about a week, due to rain and the like. Pulled the Tender, and it fired right up. The LED Volt meter did not lite and the "Battery" showed in the bikes display window. The bikes volt meter was in the middle of the scale. The bike ran and idled smoothly. I reved the engine several times nothing changed. LED volt meter was still out and the "battery"lite was on. After about 10 minutes running, the volt meter fired up and settled into 14 volt charge indicator and the battery lite went out. Could this be a bad LED Volt meter? Could it be shorting and causing the battery lite to come on? Is it a bad battery? Stator? It does something to ya riding a bike and the red light is flashing and the battery box is on. It sat for three days and today it did the exact same thing. :detective:Does anyone have any ideas. Saddle_Bag

  5. The old girl has started dripping antifreeze out the hose under the seat. I started checking the site. The drain valve under the radiator is the off position strait up? or around 1 o'clock? I thought it was 1 but the photo from an old post appear to point strait up. I've got an 84 standard. joe:225:
  6. So the plate is merely decorative. .............................. Not a thing to worry about if it isn't there??
  7. Ok Sports Fans, I need a way to reattach the plate to keep pressure on that rubber plug. I have 50 miles to get to my favorite shop. Silicon? RTV Blue? RTV Black? Bubble gum? I tried drilling out the screw, and tried an extractor. The drill bite didn't cut very well. I tried a regular bite, and the extractor threads didn't dig in and rounded themselves. Scratch the craftsman tool off the list. I think I look for my snap-on guy. I'm really open for suggestions. joe
  8. Russell Stainless steel lines makes a fitting up high on the triple tree with a bleeder. I put a speed bleeder nipple on mine. Bleeding is easy. joe
  9. Forgot, the phillips head that came with the impact tool fit the screw head perfectly. I had a concern about that as well. Two pops with the hammer and the screw head fit tight. That is until the screw broke. joe
  10. Ok, went to the garage, got a good seat , took the snap-on impact tool and gave the screw two good pops. I used the impact tool like a screw driver. The screw started to turn out, I thought. The darn thing broke off. It looks like about an 1/8 of an inch down in the hole. I did by a screw extractor. A craftsman tool. I just could not catch up with the snap-on guy. Tomorrow I'll try the extractor. The bite is on one end and the extractor screw is on the other end. Maybe I'm not thinking positive enough.......................I'm afraid to take one of the other ones out to see how long it is. It can't be that long. An inch or so???? And there can't be that much in there. joe
  11. I really didn't want to take them off. This cover was loose and rattling. I first started to tighten. It would not budge. I tried taking it out, it moved a bite and then stopped. With the frame so close, it prevented me from getting a straight shot at it and with the wrong bite, the screw head rounded. I'm gonna use the impact this weekend, after i try penitrating oil on Friday.(and let it sit til Saturday) joe
  12. Bought the hand impact tool. Got it at a local tool shop. Any thoughts on heat??? I'm going to work on it this weekend, work has me busy til then. joe
  13. I'm not going to blow a big hole in the cylinder, by hitting the screw with a hammer? A number 3 phillips. I get one tomorrow at the Ace hardware. I'll let you know how it goes. joe
  14. The cover plate on side of the engine, each cylinder has one and it is held in place with a phillips head screw. The cover was loose and rattling and the screw would not turn in or out. Well the short is the head is now stripped out. Any thoughts on how to free the screw. I thought about drilling out the screw head............I'm afraid of ripping a hole in the cylinder. I believe the screw is fused to the aluminum in the block. AHHHAHHHH. joe (Saddle_Bag)
  15. With all the foul weather, the old girl is taking a cold weather nap. Started her today and noticed that oil is coming from the shifter stem. I assume there is a bushing of some type???? I have never had a drip from there before. How do I stop the drip??? joe:starz:
  16. I believe the company is Russell..... They make stainless steel lines for M/c's. Check at a dealer, or on line, they sell a SS line with a built in bleeder. The line from the metering valve to the left front caliper. I also replaced the master cylinder with one off of 87 (I think). I think that was the year. Got it used from a cycle salvage in Ohio. Slightly bigger, but if you turn it right it will slide right in. Bleeding the brakes on the 84 now is a breeze. The parts are still available for the 87 master cyl. Good Luck, joe
  17. Talk about helpful. Thanks to all. I started out with Rick at Buckeye. Found out that I have a credit that I forgot about. When you send the old stator back, don't forget about the core credit.   18. Mine died at 69000, Put a progressive shock back there. It has an adjusting ring, and it came with a wrench to adjust it................ I can't get to the ring, and so I can't adjust it........................paid for the adjuster and don't even get a chance to use it. joe
  19. I lost one of the clips that hold the side panel in place. The rubber and metal thing that holds the side panel down??? Does Yamaha still have this things listed?? Can they begotten?? Or has someone come up with a better way to secure these things. Any Ideas? joe:fishin:
  20. OK, It is called a boss? So having 1/2 of a boss allows the oil to drain. Why does the 1/2 boss seal? This is where I have a leak. I'm sooooo confused. After reading old posts , alot of us have leaks from this bolt , and a lot of wild tricks have been used to stop the flow. Thank You for the pictures. joe
  21. No, I'm talking about the bottom one. The one with the copper washer. What is on the back . This is the one that seals to the middle gear cover. There is no flat spot on the back, it is a half circle and it won't seal with the engine. I think I really need a picture. I'll work on it. joe
  22. I'm looking for an answer to a problem I'm having, and decided to go to the experts. I just completed a stator replacement. All went well, the second time. I don't want to explain. I am having an issue with the middle cover. After removing the allen screws, and removing the cover and gasket, something looked odd. On the back side, I expected a cylinder like backing on the bottom screw hole. To match up to the case with the gasket. (I have the copper washer) The top half of the cylinder is not there, and looks like it never was??? To put it simply, the dam thing won't stop dripping oil. It won't seal. I have never seen the back of this plate befoe, is there a piece missing or broken off. Any thoughts??? joe
  23. Oh, The stator mounts to the engine cover, not to the engine .
  24. I had to connect them together cause the three wire plug melted down. I have been running it for over a year after the plug melted. I was told to solder them the next time. Is there a flywheel/timing wheel under the the cover??? I'm going to digest the steps and I'm sure I'll have more questions. Thanks, I was beginning to thing I wasn't connected. joe
