  1. Don, Jerry, and Dave - Thanks for your offers. I met up with Brian (tx2sturgis) not too long ago and he is letting me borrow his Morgan CarbTune. Thanks again! And a special thanks to Brian for his generosity!!
  2. Terrific! (PM sent) Thanks Brian. My schedule is pretty flexible so I'd be happy to ride up to Plainview anytime today or tomorrow. So whatever would be most convenient for you. My only restriction for today and tomorrow is that I've got a class from 9-10 tomorrow. Just let me know when and where would be good for you and what I ought to bring, if anything, and I'll be there. My number is in my profile if you would rather call than communicate through here, but it makes no difference to me. Thanks again! Rick M.
  3. I knew it was a long shot, but no luck. There were 3 for sale here, called all three. No one had extra parts. Good luck, hopefully you can get lucky and find some on e-bay!
  4. Put on the EBC pads sunday and they have been much quieter... a little squeal now but I don't have that gd awful grind. I'll squeeze some more of that grease on the back of the pad and clean the rotors again... Thanks for asking the question whistler, I thought it was just mine! Rick M.
  5. Don: I was hoping to get this done soon, but I've been saying that for a few months now, so it is not that big of a deal. I really appreciate your willingness to give me a hand here but so far it looks like Jerry is a wee bit closer. If I don't get it done by November, I am going to try to make the get together in November, we could plan on doing it then, if that works for you and if I don't git-r-done sooner. Thanks again! Jerry: Thanks, you're a bit closer than Houston; I'll take you up on that if someone else doesn't chime in sooner. I'll be out of town from 25-Sept to 4-Oct, so it sounds like for us it would have to be after then. Touch base when you find some time. I'll make sure to update here if I get it done sooner. Thanks again both of you! - Rick M.
  6. Don't bump it too hard, you'll need more than just the right one [sorry I cannot help you with the parts - I'm sure someone will chime in that can ] Actually, now that I think about it, there are a few 1st gens for sale around me, I'll give them a call and see if they have any extra parts... I'll let you know
  7. Not to draw this out any longer and I am terribly sorry for your troubles but +1 to the Civil suit. This probably wouldn't even make it to mediation... If it did I seriously doubt you'd end up going to court. A lawyer will cost a few bucks, BUT you can always ask for the recovery costs of your attorny and court costs (if you go to court) to be part of your suit. Don't forget about the year that you had to go without the bike... all that wasted gas and the pain and suffering... (Just, sortof kidding about that) But there is NO doubt you have a good civil case here, especially if you have documentation of what has been going on. 2ndly, most shops are insured for stuff like this. The other route you could go is look into theft charges... (I don't know if you looked into that at all, sorry if someone has suggested it). It would be a cut and dry case. 3rd, call your local news channel... Again, sorry to hear this, it is truly a shame
  8. Congrats; that is some expensive looking tupperware... I mean nice lookin scoot Seriously though, I've never ridden anything smoother than a wing... Including my RSV (and a BMW - but the BMW came close). I'm sure you'll love it
  9. Wow, sounds like you've hit some great stuff! Hope your trip continues to be a good one! Drive safe
  10. I have yet to order a CarbTune and I just flat out have not had the time to make my own yet and I still need a tachometer but I've been reading a lot lately about the signs that lead one to believe that it is time to do a carb sync and I feel that my bike is due... So here it is; Is there someone in or near west Texas that has a equipment, know-how, time, and patience to meet up with me and give me a hand syncing my carbs? I have an 01 RSV and am in Lubbock, Texas. I'll certainly be happy to meet you wherever and at your convenience of course. Thanks in advance! - Rick M.
  11. Since PayPal said it is too late, I'd go ahead and contact your CC company and let them take care of it. CC companies offer protection against that kind of jazz too.
  12. I have never dealt with them inparticular but If I were you at this point I would go ahead and file the dispute with PayPal too, not just ebay. Here is some information: https://www.paypal.com/helpcenter/main.jsp;jsessionid=KnTKx2JZvhYTVFzPLLzJbsYjK2zGjV5vNG8CvYLnymSJyJ0T5ghp!-973790507?locale=en_US&_dyncharset=UTF-8&countrycode=US&cmd=_help&serverInstance=9006&t=solutionTab&ft=browseTab&ps=solutionPanels&solutionTopic=800060&solutionId=12454&isSrch=Yes If they don't help, I'd go to the credit card company you used to fund the PayPal transaction (if you used a credit card). I do not have experience filing claims with PayPal but I have done it with my credit card. My CC company was very quick at getting the issues resolved. Also, make sure you have as much information as you can regarding your situation. ie. Receipt for transaction, item numbers, dates and times of communications AND the communication itself (if you have copies of the e-mails and transcripts of what you left in a message to them). Good luck friend.
  13. Very Nice! I'm guessing 1976. P.S. I hope it is going to be more than a cat scratcher!
  14. Great job, by the way. Looks like a great fit!
  15. I would paint the bags to match the bike... Mostly because it would be less work. Also, it would keep it original (presuming the bike has not been painted before). When I look at used vehicles one thing I look for is to see if I can tel whether it has been painted before or not. This is because painting a vehicle (or parts of a vehicle) is a possible indicator that there was a problem at some point. (There are some that get painted just so they look better or because the owner did not like the color or whatever, but you never know.) This can be a moot point though for a few reasons. 1) If you plan on keeping your bike for a while AND you want the bike to match the saddlebags because you like it better then go for it. 2) If you do a nice job (or whoever paints it) then one may not be able to tell it has been painted outside of the factory (other than the colors not matching what was offered OEM that particular year) 3) not everyone shares the same concern as I do about a repainted vehicle... Bottom line, It is your bike, pick which color you like the best and go for it!
  16. I've been seeing a lot of these lately... Wish I had a few extra bucks laying around; I love the color scheme of my bike BUT I'd be willing to give that up for a new (0 miles) bike and a full 5 year warranty... By the way: So do you know anything else about the California edition of the 2010? or what else is to come with the RSV?
  17. Sounds like you'll be in good hands! Good luck!!
  18. I actually tried that this morning. The sounds mine make are inconsistent. Sometimes they are perfectly quiet and sometimes it sounds like a metal-on-metal scrape/squeal or something... I don't know how else to describe it. Mine have been this way since a few hundred miles after I got it. I have about 75% pad left on all 4 in front. I wanted to try rouging it up (since I know that glazing can cause some squeal) and no dice. Same deal. The only thing I have not done (not including changing the pads all together) is replaced the spring (that run 20 bucks a piece) that keep the brake pad tight. I have adjusted it so that it holds the pad tight, like it is supposed to, but I have not replaced it (and the book says to replace those with every pad change). I am pretty sure what I have on there right now (the fronts any ways) are the yamaha metallic pads. I'm fed up with this (it is embarrassing) so tomorrow morning I'm going to replace them with the EBC organic (not the HH sintered ones, just the organic). If it makes a difference I'll let ya'll know...
  19. Well that is good to know and what I was curious about to begin with... I'll fork over the $1.00 for a few feet of wire to git-er-done and not worry about it. That 1.00 sure beats having to buy ANOTHER radio...
  20. The seating on the RSV is similar to that of the VTX but the handlebars are much different. You will notice a big difference there. All good notes here. Regardless of what kind of tires are on there (but especially if they are the Avon Venoms) make sure you take a careful look at the sidewalls all the way around for any signs of cracking. And it may be helpful to ask to see when they were put on, as a bike with that kind of mileage could indicate that it was stored for a while, or whatever. But again, it would be a shame to buy the bike then have to put tires on it right away.
  21. FYI: Post #2 of this thread lists some great info on lamps... Someone else will have to chime in on your question about the 5 or 8 degree spots, I don't know. I use the Wagner 4449s right now which are 11x4.5 (I think) and 35W bulbs. I have them aimed to light up the road down the way infront of me and a little of the shoulder on either side... In terms of visibility from oncoming traffic, in my opinion, the lights are lights and I don't know that anyone would notice a difference between the two options - but again, someone with more knowledge of lamps can chime in I'm sure. The lamps switching with high beam, low beam or on all the time is just a matter of who installed them and what wire got tied into to activate the relay (or split the power lead). If you want to change yours you just need to tap into the high or low beam wire (if you want it activated that way) or a separate circuit that turns on when you turn the key on (if you want them on all the time and to NOT be without headlamps if your headlight circuit blows). There are a few threads on here with the OEM instructions in it indicating which headlamp wire to tap into for each case if you want to change your setup. I'm sure many would highly recommend installing the relay and powering the lamps directly from the battery if you do not have them setup that way already. [by the way, hope you are enjoying your new ride! ]
  22. Good question Rick... I'd be interested to see what the shop has to say about it and what if anything they can/will be willing to do to make it right (no pun intended).
  23. As part of trying to figure out my silly radio problem I purchased a radio control unit (the head on the handlebars) for my RSV and I ended up needing to replace the radio unit itself. So I have a control if anyone needs it - I'll put it in the classfides later when I have pictures and a video of it working (I just need to get them off of my camera, which is at the house right now). I bought it from Pinwall on ebay for ~200+S&H. It works fine, I plugged it in and it works just like it did in their pictures/videos. It was off of a 2005 RSV with 40k. I'm looking to recover most of my expense, but since it is not straight from them I'll take a little less than the $200 and I'll cover shipping (within the US). Let me know if you need one and we can settle on a fair price. I'm going to hang on to it for a while (before I put it up on fleabay) just in case I need to replace the one on my bike too, but for now, I'll hang on to it unless someone on here needs one.
  24. HAHA, If this one wines too you gould get away with saying that you stole it from the jetsons!
  25. Well... If they still make the Venture, I don't see why they would drop the RSTD completely as it is just the venture without the trunk and front fairing... But, it isn't on the website... So maybe it'll be released in february when the 2010 calif. ed. comes out as maybe they had enouph stock of the old jazz to produce these 1999 RSVs.
