  1. Thanks guys for all the info, Can't wait to get at this time and weather permitting. 0c or 32f here this morning so if nothing else I am going to have some good reading because I don't have a heated shop. Might have to make a color change. The purplish black needs an up date I think and now is a good time. Russ I got the emails. Looks good now just to get at it
  2. Russell Scan and email would be great and I can print here, Dan As Russell says I am from north of the tree line, so I recognize those ebay carbs from a twin cylinder snow mobile. They are so easy to deal with, I just hope those virago carbs are easy. I am betting most of the battle will be getting them onto the bench
  3. I did open the drains and flushed out a bunch of old gas that would not even burn in a fire. I filled them with spray carb cleaner because that was all I had. Going to try to get the carbs off and deal them on a bench. Bought a lift the other day so I won't be sitting on the floor or bend over. Any one know what make of carbs these are? Either way the only way I see to really do anything with these is to get them onto a bench, unless some one knows how to get at the sliders with them on the bike? I am very familuar with ski doo carbs, being as Mr. Owl said from 40 miles north of the tree line No Mask in the deal, also came with a covor and leather bags, I think he ws baseing his his idea that it was seized on someone else's say so with out doing a little looking himself.
  4. Ok guys here is what I wound up with. a 1992 Yamaha Virago, 23000 km The engine is not seized or at least I was able to free it with no effort, Carbs are in dire need of attention because they will not even open despite the cable trying to turn the butterflies. All the lights work. Only thing missing is the right side side cover.
  5. Good to know guys, Thanks for the info. I will let you know how this washes out
  6. My son as an 83 aspencade, It had the same issue, I would hardly turn over with a new battery, We took the starter out and rebuilt/cleaned it up. It was full of old grease and dirt and all the other stuff a starter get built up in it. We also put on a new starter selonid. Problem cured.
  7. Good point, I get the impression that this guy isn't a bike guy. Said he got the bike in an estate and stored it outside. I am thinking it might be in gear, I don't know why he says it is seized but time will tell.
  8. Any one have any info on these bikes, I am looking at one as a project I haven't seen it yet but the seller says the thing is seized and the throttle controls don't work. Pic's look good but pic's and deceiving.
  9. Well the snow finally went away enough to get the bike out of the shed and snake through the snow patched and hit the road. Just a short trip, but wow. It has been almost a year since I have rode (back surgery:) but what a blast
  10. I get stuff shipped to an address close to the border and drive down and pick it up. Lots easier and the cost of the items usually off sets the cost of driving down to get them

    first ride

Snow still up to my knee's so the bike is shed locked
  12. Thanks for all the kind words folks, I plan on getting to as many events as I can, Trouble is the wife still works and there is so many things to do and so little summer.
  13. Yesterday was my last day to work. After 31 years I am drifting off into retirement. Still have to turn in my tools and some kit but that will come in April.
  14. Let the party begin!
  15. Don't know if I would start the engine to pump the fluid out of a cooler line. The tranny moves a lot of fluid in a very short time. I think by the time you ran around the front end of the vehicle the tranny would be dry. I would disable the ignition and just crank the starter, after I ran the engine and tranny with some sea foam in it. Then a couple of complete fluid and filter changes. I would also consider drilling the torque converter just my 2 cents

  18. Not to offend anyone but Old age and trechery in many cases over comes youth and exurberance (spelling ??? )
  19. To compare the 2012 stats with year 2000 stats, you would have to factor in the increase in riders, Just like comparing gas prices to 1975. No mater how you look at it those numbers are to high. It would be interesting to know the number of crotch rockets in those numbers. Rode safe
  20. I had the same problem on my 83, Took the front springs out and they were consiiderably shorter than the minmum length. Put in a set of progressives and problem fixed, I never ran any air in the front after that. Sure inproved the handling, and no more dive at a stop sign
  21. I made three trips down to the basement and around the rec room before I got that new can of coffie out of the pantry this morning. Yep must be the door, because my mind is like a steel trap.......One that has been left in the rain to long:confused24:
