  1. Congrats It is coming on 4 years for me since retirement. You will enjoy it and it is highly recommended by me. I tell people don't wait and the company wont fall apart without you
  2. As I say I am just researching, I was on the 1800 riders site for a time and dropped off because they were a little snippy. I will check that site out too. Like I say I am just checking things out. I need a new battery in the spring and am not going to get to excited about removing the alternator until then it is still putting out 14.7 volts. The bike has 184000 km so it might be time to do thing about a rebuild
  3. Just doing a little research, Does anyone know if I can get the alternator out of an 1800 Goldwing without removing the gas tank?
  4. I am sitting at 14.75 volts at 3000 rpm, Not sure what the service manual say on this but 14.75 should be sufficient to keep a good battery charged. Problem is my battery is poor, and given the time of year I will wait until spring to change it
  5. Full charge from a tender when I did the load test, and I have used a multi meter at idle and got 14.5 volts at idle. I will check further to see what is going on with some rpm and check back.
  6. Last few times out I have noticed that the starter didn't didn't have the same zip when I hit the button, and the heated seat and grips are intermittent. Battery tender also seemed to taker a long time to get to full charge even after a good ride. Did a load test on the battery. It started at 12.5 volts and dropped to 8 during the load test, and never regained 12 volts until I hooked the tender back up. I guess come spring I will be battery shopping. Hopefully the intermittent comfort package is related to a poor battery
  7. I like it gives an idea of what the thread is about
  8. Would love to have been there but this work gig gets in the way Looks like a great time was had by all
  9. Had a couple of Canadian Flags sewn back to back and slipped over my antenna. Those things rode every where and never moved. Stopped a ad DQ next town over about 20 miles from home. Had to park the bike where I couldn't keep an eye on it. We sat outside and finished up the treats and when we returned to the bike the flag was gone. Just a matter of sliding it up the length of the antenna, but after thousands of miles and the thing doesn't move leaves me wondering, and I am betting they didn't work there way up and off that antenna without some help
  10. Looks sweet, I miss that blond 83 I had
  11. Pam

    Barn find

Wow wish I still had my 83
  12. Yep my first job was just that pumping gas and checking oil and fixing tire. Days gone by now. Kind of sad. I like the B17
  13. Surprised that pole is such good shape,
  14. She is defiantly a keeper,
  15. Hear in Manitoba we are stuck with Govt insurance, They claim that bikes are grouped in classes, yet a crotch rocket is cheaper than my wing. I worked a long time on the highway and saw lots of rockets wrecked, and can only recall one wing, and it was cut off by another driver. The insurance also covers liability and and medical. They charge they bulk of the premium during the riding season, and in the fall and winter it is about $10.00 a month. I guess I should park it up here in the summer and go south for the winter. I say some stats a while ago and they lump ATV and Snowmobile claims in with bikes. I dare say there are more ATV claims than bike claims
  16. Sorry to hear about your loss. Sounds like things are progressing wit the insurance people. Best wishes
  17. We are now in the heating season, I used to haul fuel and deliver to homes as well. All heating oil is, is light diesel. So theoretically once the weather warms up the diesel price should go down, but by then the refinery will need rebuilding and then we are back to supply and demand.
  18. I sold my Venture a few years ago and went to a Goldwing. (Kind of kick myself for that because I miss that bike) I do drop in on other Bike sites but I find some very clicky and every post is met with little jabs. On this site everything is like one big family. There is so much info for any make or model of bike If possible maintain quoe.
  19. Not to start anything but a parking lot where the public has right of access (Walmart for example) drivers license insurance etc are required, and driving laws do apply. My yard is private property. Dui takes officers off the road for approximately 3 hours so who knows what the reasoning for not going the Dui route was
  20. Had a similar incident, Was half asleep in a parking lot and all of a sudden the vehicle shakes and shudders, I get out and and an older gentleman is starting to back away, I guess he didn't know there was some one in the vehicle. Insurance covered that with nothing out of pocket. Daughter in law also have some young punk run into the back of her once. She get out and checks on the two grand daughter in the back seat. Well I guess this kid gets in her face (She is of average size) and was beginning to intimidate blaming her for his bad driving. About this time my son who is 6'2" 230 lbs get out of the passengers side and stands on the curb. I guess the punk tucked his tail and made nice, exchange information like a reasonable person. Couple of days later Daddy calls wanting to cover the damage so the kid doesn't loose his license. My boy told him to deal with the insurance and maybe the punk would grow up if he walked for a while,
  21. Spent the last two days cleaning up leaves here, Sunday and Monday) Sunday was in the high 40's we should have been riding but I guess that is the way it goes, Monday was only about 35 so even cleaning up leaves was not much fun. I would like to see those waves. The power always leaves me with my jaw swinging in the wind
  22. I had a fork seal go out this summer after a very hard bump (ramp on a toy hauler trailer),174000 km on the bike. Took it to a small one man shop and had the seals and bushings done. I believe he got the seals and bushings from a company called All Balls ??. While he had everything apart he cleaned all the internal parts. For a sealed system I would not have thought that the internal parts could get so dirty, I had progressive springs put in while it was apart as the old ones were starting to show their age as was evident in the handling and ride. Two hours later it rides like a dream again. In comparing the factory springs to progressive springs it is like comparing a chicken leg to a turkey leg
  23. Now I am really sorry we couldn't make it this year after looking at the pic's
