  3. Thanks for all the ideas. I found a shop in Omaha that still has the mercury ( quicksilver ) and they are shipping it to me. I don't have a problem with mercury...as long as you are careful and wear gloves and not try to swallow any of it, you should be fine. Heck, Dentists used to put in your mouth as fillings. If I remember right...maybe thats why I never passed a test in school...Could be why my moniker is what it is...I'll have to ponder that for a spell. Snaggletooth, who is from Omaha let me in on it. They only have a few bottles left for about $25 plus shipping. Cie la Vie. Thanks for everybodys help. You guys are the best Ken:cool10:
  4. Hello Gents I had an accident with my mercury filled carb sticks ( I spilled the mercury on my driveway ) My question is Does anybody know where I can find just an ounce or two of mercury...I spilled about half what was in there. Thanks for any ideas Ken
  5. Thanks Guys I'm going to try the RLU, it seems more than likely the problem. I didn't even know I had a RLU. Live and learn.
  6. Sorry guys, been extremely busy the last few days The light that blinks is the red light with the headlight icon lit. It will come on either with the high beams or low beam on. The high beam also activates the passing lights...ie I will have all three lights on when on high beam. The low beam will have just the headlight glowing. The red light and the icon will come on either low beam or high beam. I used the 4 blade relay that was mentioned. ( I can't remember the type or number ) I have been thinking that I have a weak diagnostic board but I don't know how to fix it. The blinking light is not on all the time and I can get rid of it for a short time by switching from either the high beam to low beam or vice versa. BTW, all lights work fine, it's just the icon and flashing red light. Thanks for all the help, I hope this explains it. I hope I'm not too confusing. Thanks again
  7. I have a question about a problem I'm having with my headlights Firstly, I have added a set of cheap walmart passing lights to my 89 Venture. I can be driving down the road with either my extra lights on or off and the little computer on my dash will blink on. I can turn off the passing lights and the trouble light will go off for a few minutes and then start blinking again. I installed a relay and tried to wire it the best that i can. The switch for the passing lights is the high/low switch for the dimmer switch on the left-side handlebar. BTW...my lights work fine. My question is: Has anyone else have this type of problem with this type of setup and what did you to alleviate the blinking light on the dash? It's starting to drive me nuts. Thank you gentlemen, I'd appreciate any help that you might think of. Ken
  8. I bought the adapter on E-Bay for roughly $50. I think you need to shop around a little. BTW I use Purolater filters...most bang for the buck IMHO Here's one for $55 http://www.ebay.com/itm/250988750735?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1438.l2649
  9. I've got a 89 and I just had something similiar happen in the last few weeks. I had a leak out of one of carbs on the left side ( rear ). I tapped the carb with a plastic screwdriver and viola it has fixed it. It could be that your float valve has a little dirt in it. Seafoam and a few taps on the side of the diaphrams cover. Did it for me!! Good Luck !!
  10. 89 with 2700 miles, bought it a few months ago with 2075 miles 86 with 36,000 miles bought it in 08
  11. An elderly man is stopped by the police around 1 a. m. and is asked where he is going at this time of night. The man replies, "I am going to a lecture about alcohol abuse and the effects it has on the human body." The officer then asks, "Really? Who is giving that lecture at this time of night?" The man replies, "That would be my wife."
  12. :lightbulb:Hey Guys Just a note to let you guys know about a better and cheaper way to do the fork seals: A genius named Frank Cuthbert has made the suggestion to replace the seals with generic seals from the Auto Parts store. They last longer, they're cheaper and you can pick them up almost anywhere. Federal Mogul 40x52x7
  13. :stirthepot:As a Bronco fan.....that's just damn funny:rotf::rotf: :stirthepot:
  14. Prayers sent, good luck and quit trying to wrestle with the bears.
  15. I would love the number...I can't keep seals from leaking...thanks ken:lightbulb:
  16. Wasn't quite ready for that one....but that was funny. Bravo !!!:rotf:
  17. Great...I just ordered a set of calipers from him. I don't feel like getting screwed, so I'll keep an eye on him...Thanks for the heads up.
  18. Gentlemen I just had to crow a little and tell someone ( at least someone who will appreciate it ) what I found this week. A 1989 Venture Royale with 2075 miles. Of course I was turning flips when I heard about it, being the kind of guy that I am. I already owned an 86 with 32K, but when I heard about this one...I had to have it. I won't brag about the price but I almost stole it. Now for the questions: 1) It still has the original Brickstones on and I plan to buy either Avon Venoms or Dunlop E-3s. I have the venoms now but I'm not crazy about the weathering and checking on the sidewalls. Do the E-3s have the weathering problems like the Venoms? 2) I just ordered a set of progressive springs and I plan on installing them ASAP. Compared to my 86, this thing bottoms out way too fast. Would there be anything else you guys would do to the suspension to make it more enjoyable/driveable? 3)Anybody interested in a nice 86 with 32K and fresh paint ? 4)What else would you do to a basically new bike with 22 year old parts? All help would be greatly appreciated Ken ( stuck on stupid )
  19. All of you brainiacs.... I live at 6K feet, I love to ride over the continital divide ( roughly 11K-12K feet ), yes I live in God's country ( Colorado ) just kidding... What my question is, and I've been looking for a couple of years, how should I set up my jets for this altitude? Different jets, needles and all that. It seems to run rich now and I've tried the needle mods with the small washers...and it did help, but it still is not perfect and if you would know me...you know how anal I am. I seek perfection. If anybody can steer me in the right direction, I'd be forever grateful. BTW, I bought a 86 XVZ1300 DSC from a guy from Los Angeles sight unseen, I've taken off the cannister and rerouted the vacuum lines so it is set up much like a "normal" 86 XVZ1300 DS. New plugs, wires, caps, KN air filter, sync'ed the carbs, I run Sea foam every other tank, very heavy right wrist ( I love to go fast ) Again, any help or direction would be grateful Stuck-on-stupid Ken
  20. :thumbsup2:Thanks to all that wrote back with all the ideas. Well, Believe it or not, it was the battery. Dead as a doorknob. I never in my life thought a battery could die that fast. Thanks again for the help, you guys are the best. Ken
  21. Yeppers, I checked the fuses and cleaned all contacts on fuses, I will try the battery thing and relay. Thanks guys for the ideas, you guys are the best. Ken I'll let everyone know when I get it fixed and what caused it.
  22. Hey Guys I went to the Grocery store on Saturday and when I came out to go home I inserted the key and at first the lights blinked on and then nothing. Great, I thought to myself. I went home and grabbed my truck and trailer, went back and hauled the bike back home. Here's where it gets interesting...I turned the key to the acc. position and the radio started playing intermittantly. I was tired and decided to work on it on Sunday afternoon. When I went back and took the lower half of the fairing so I could get to the starter ( I thought it was probably a loose wire on the starter or a grounding strap...It wasn't ) I would turn the key to Acc. and the radio would not work, but when I turned the key to the On position, one little light came on in the radio but it would not play and nothing else would light up ( ie. dash light, pump, lights...completely dead ) but the little light on the radio was on. It would only come on in the On position and go off in the Acc position. But still nothing else would come on. It's got me stumped. I checked the starter solenoid. It's not loose however I know little else. If any body would be so kind as to point me in the right direction, I would be grateful. Thanks Ken:fingers-crossed-emo
