  1. I had started smoking when I was 17 and quit when I was 23. I was a pack a day smoker. I originally started because at 17, I was already 6'5" tall and was showing no signs of stopping. I'd heard the stories about smoking stunting your growth, so I figured this might be a good way to curb my growth. My quitting was a result of two things. I had developed the "smoker's cough" and cigarette prices had just jumped from 55 cents a pack to a horrendous 75 cents a pack! That was an outrage that I didn't have to take!

  3. I rode in our local Veteran's Day Parade with the local Gold Wing group. There were about 20 bikes in our group and we'd all honk at the parade viewers. I have two of the "Bad Boy" horns (Stebel clones) on my 84 VR. My set-up was louder than anything any other rider in our group had.
  4. OK, that is certainly good to know. I don't know that the pads shown to me were the HH, but I'll keep an eye out. Thanks!
  5. I went back to the local stealership today and the ones they sell are in fact the EBC's. If I remember correctly, the price per pair was around $28. I don't know how they came up with a total price of over $80 for all the sets, but they did. I figure I'll just buy the fronts one week, then get for the rear on the next week.
  6. OK, I'm assuming EBC is a name brand. Would these be what my stealership is selling?
  7. OK, I'm gonna have to do some pad replacing this winter. The thieves at the local stealership want $86 for a set of pads. I found these on Ebay for under half the price. Has anyone had any experience with these pads or this seller? Thanks!
  8. Yes I did! A light jacket was all I needed. I went out for about an hour just putterin' around town. The wind was a bit too brisk to chance taking it out on the highway, I just stuck with the residential areas.
  9. Yeah, but it takes longer for the donuts to come back down.
  10. OK, I'm just sitting around with nothing to do but surf on YouTube and I found this. [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mbs64GvGgPU]YouTube - Muppet Show - Swedish Chef - making donut[/ame] Yes, I know. I've got to find something constructive to do like work on my bike or practice my tuba.
  11. I have an 84 and all of my locks and ignition are all keyed the same.
  12. I've been to Dodge City a few times when I worked for a previous company. I delivered to the electric co-op there. At that time, I could only find one half decent motel (this was nine years ago and there are probably more now) and I couldn't find a decent place to eat (that's probably changed by now too). amtrack runs through there and they've still got a depot in the down town area. The old town section looked interesting, I'd like to go back and check it out some time.
  13. At least we're warming up for a little while. I'm gonna try to take the day off tomorrow. Might try to ride the bike a bit.
  14. Does this improve braking? Do the calipers bolt right up without modifications? Is it expensive to do this? Can this be done to an 84 VR?
  15. I saw it snow there one time.
  16. Well.........I was being nice.
  17. PC 680 hands down favorite.
  18. This thread reminds me of a story. Our Sunday School class took a weekend retreat to Glorietta, NM last October. Our class director uses a GPS that utilizes the voice of a Japanese woman. In traveling about Santa Fe, it soon became obvious to our director that this particular Japanese girl had never been to Santa Fe as she kept giving innacurate directions. Reports of the GPS saying things like "You go wrong way! Must turn 'round now! You so stupid!" abounded in our GPS discussions. As for me, Rand McNally makes this thing that I prefer to use. It's something called a "Map". And I don't waste time with Atlases either, I get the full-blown fold out type map. With maps, all the mistakes are mine.

  20. Dang! Gimme a holler when you do! I'd like a ride up to Borger. The wife wouldn't,but I would.
  21. I'm not buying it, not for a minute. We don't (or at least I don't) put ATV tires on our bikes. With all the steel that's in the bead of our tires, I see no way that this can possibly work.
  22. My eldest nephew wants to buy a handgun before "you know who" makes it impossible for him to get one. Nephew wants me to go shopping with him, so I figger that's what I'll be doing this Friday.
  23. So I was out riding again the other day................out on a country road all by myself. There was no one around and not a house or other traffic for as far as the eye could see. I figured I'd give 'em a good long blast just for giggles. To my surprise, as soon as I lifted my thumb from the button the clouds began to part in the sky in front of me. I sat in awe as the very gates of Heaven suddenly appeared in the sky. As I was watching this spectacle, the gates began to open............an angel stepped out as if anxiously looking for someone. He then looked down upon me and said," Oh. It's you. Pffffffffft!" He did an abrupt about face and went back in.
  24. Well, I reckon I'm thankful that today I'm another year older and I STILL ain't been throwed in jail.
  25. AND he's living in Gambia!:yikes:
