  1. Watch your mouth...it is NOT a v-twin. It is a v-4. That being said, I would certainly start with a good carb sync. Pretty common that they are not done perfectly from the factory and often not from the dealers. It's easy to do. Easy to learn if you have never done it before. You will need a carb sync tool to do it though. Most of us here are partial to the Carbtune II. http://www.carbtune.com
  2. I found that the easiest way is to pick up a set of ball end allen wrenches.
  3. Here you go. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=3384
  4. Yes...they should. It can sometimes take a LONG time though. and I mean several months.
  5. This is one that I can add....wear the proper footwear. This kind of goes along with number 13. You can't put your left foot down if your shoe laces are wrapped around the shift peg. Don't ask how I know.
  6. I received the following reply to my email to Rick's Stators. Maybe there is hope. I'll let you know more after I talk to him on the phone. How much additional capacity to you guys think we need? It will be limited of course by the number of windings and etc. that they can fit. Here is the response: Dear Don, Thank you for the e-mail. I spoke with Rick about it and he asked me to get a good contact phone number from you so that he can give you a call. He did some preliminary research, but he wanted to talk to you as well on this stator. Please let me know the best number to reach you at and what times are best. Thanks, Amanda Amanda Shaw Marketing & PR Administrator Rick's Motorsport Electrics
  7. Very good write-up. I'll leave it here for a couple of days and then move it to the tech library. Thanks for taking the time.
  8. Take a look at this thread. Just cook the stuff. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=1058
  9. Yes...a little bit but nothing to cause any problems. Just put the centerstand up first. The side stand will touch and ride on it but not noticeable. The only way I became aware of it was one time I pulled the bike off the centerstand then when I started to put the sidestand down, I felt the centerstand move a bit.
  10. You can also go directly to the Sirius site to see all the units that they offer. I have XM and from looking, it seems that though they both offer XM with MP3 built in, they just don't have the storage capacity yet that I would like to see. http://shop.sirius.com/edealinv/servlet/ExecMacro?nurl=control/CategoryHome.vm&ctl_nbr=2640&allradios=Y
  11. A company named Rick's has been specializing in motorsport stators for some time now. I've just sent him an email asking what the possibilities are of him building a high output stator for our bikes. I'll let you know what I hear back from him. Here is the web site. http://www.ricksmotorsportelectrics.com/index.php
  12. I don't know about the ones on Ebay but I have the one that Carbon built and it is excellent quality. Great workmanship and looks to be a bit heavier material. Not sure about that though.
  13. I agree about the Odyssey. I've had mine for almost 4 years I think. Great battery. Also recommend a battery tender. Keep it topped off through the winter and it will last a lot longer.
  14. Yes....there is no reason to cut them off. I've removed several sets and never had to cut them. I just use a very thin bladed screwdriver between the rubber and the bar. Just work it all the way around then pull them off.
  15. I just added this article from Pegscraper. It is also linked from the tech library. The biggest complaint about the orginal Royal Stars was the lack of power. This does not look to be a cheap solution but the Dyno results show that it is a GREAT solution. If you own an original Royal Star and really want to release the inner beast, this is the solution. http://www.venturerider.org/carbswap/
  16. Fantastic article submitted by Lynn Nicholls. Lack of power was the main complaint about the original Royal Star and according to the Dyno tests...this certainly solves that problem. http://www.venturerider.org/carbswap/
  17. I often get emails from new members asking how to start a new topic. Even the terminology can be confusing for folks who have never participated in a discussion forum before. It is typically called a new "Thread" but that means new "conversation", "topic", "discussion", etc. So...to start a new thread just choose the area that you want to post to. Examples are "Watering Hole", "General Tech Talk", etc. Click on that topic area and you will see the list of current "threads". At the upper left, just above the list of threads is a blue button that says "New Threads". Click that button and you are on your way. Don
  18. Now that sounds cool. Does it have an amp built in also? And the pictures and instructions are where?
  19. Hey...you are at the right place...that's about the only requirement we have here. Glad you have joined us. Don
  20. Darrell, Glad you have joined in. Hope things at the MTA are going ok and please know that if I can ever be of assistance, just let me know. Don
  21. The URL way is only if you are posting a link to a picture hosted elsewhere. Now if you click on the paper clip...it opens a window just like the "Manage Files" button. Don
  22. This is pretty cool. Wonder if it would work on the Venture? http://www.webbikeworld.com/r3/spider-led-light/
  23. This is a fantastic discussion. If you two could put this together in a tech type article it would be great for the first gen tech library. If you decide to do so, just put it together in html format or even in Microsoft Word format or any way you want to. I can make it work from there. Don
  24. Installing Harley Davidson License Plate Bracket Light Kit Submitted by Tartan Terror Anyone owning a Royal Star Venture knows full well the lack of good lighting on the rear of this motorcycle. Although I have seen may good ideas I chose the Harley Davidson license plate bracket with the incorperated taillights. Harley Davidson’s part number for this item is 68230-97A or 68230-97B. Both will work well and the only difference is that the “B” part number has a full backing behind the Plate portion. http://www.venturerider.org/hdlights/image002.jpg Step 1: Assemble the lamps onto the chrome bracket. The lamps are easily installed onto the frame and are held on by allen head bolts provided in the kit. You must also flatten the two raised nubs on the plate portion of the plate portion. After all assembled cut off the plug in connector as the Harley plug will not fit the RSV. http://www.venturerider.org/hdlights/image004.jpg Step 2: Remove the License Plate from the Venture and gently pull out the wires inside the pod behind the removed plate. Find the Blue and Yellow wires inside the pod. Next connect the Blue wire on the Harley lights to the to the Blue wire on the RSV. After doing this connect the Red wire on the Harley lights to the Yellow wire on the RSV. I connected the wires using a male female type of connector so I could take the lights off easily for repair or cleaning if need be. Note: If you test the lights after you have made these connections lights wont work. You must bolt the plate and lights to the bike to ground the lights! http://www.venturerider.org/hdlights/image006.jpg http://www.venturerider.org/hdlights/image008.jpg http://www.venturerider.org/hdlights/image010.jpg Step 3: Tuck wires into the pod carefully and Bolt plate frame to bike. Test lights at this point and if all is good you are finished! Lights will operate as brake and running lights and will add lots of great light on the rear! http://www.venturerider.org/hdlights/image012.jpg Here is the Finished product!!! (Sorry the Pic is a little dark)
  25. I would be very surprised if the V4 does not already meet most EPA requirements and if not, it would be VERY simple for it to do so. Heck...with the addition of the carbon canister, it already meets the strict California requirements. It wouldn't be very difficult to add fuel injection. I really don't look for the V4 to go away because of EPA regulations.
