Anyone have this happen
gibvel replied to gibvel's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Shoot, and I just sold my 1st gen. Hmmmm which reminds me, I haven't put my gremlin bell on yet...maybe that's it. Thought it was too cold out, still, for the gremlins to get out and about. Makes sense though. Fewer motorcycles out, more gremlins per bike. It's all a percentage thing I guess. -

Yeah, just a little miffed at the POs mechanic (you drop a bolt, you find a bolt. If it's not on the floor it's in the scoot and you'd better find it) but very, very thankful that I made it 500 some odd miles before it went south. Very helpful that Dale had the exact same thing happen to him about 2 weeks prior to mine. That experience was fresh in my mind so it all made sense quickly I understand about the tripometer resetting only when disconnecting the battery, that's what made me think it was the battery, but how about the station presets on the radio staying and not the tripometer settings. Seems to me, if the battery were going, the stations would reset as well. Unless their reset voltage is below the tripometer's or they have a flash kind of memory for that...which I doubt. -

Thanks Redneck, didn't want to hear that!! And Mama Yama wants me to pay over $100 for a new switch that may last another 2 years? -

Thought about the ignition switch too but it was changed last June of July by the PO (only reason I know that is because the stupid tech who did the work dropped one of the bolts and it landed between the frame and the radiator and wore a hole in the radiator by the time I got back home from Amarillo with it). Not saying that the switch still couldn't have gone bad in that time but I would think it's less likely to have. -
What do you have on the front? Radial? Bias? Just can't see how you would have near as much of a contact patch on tight turns, with that car tire, as opposed to a MC tire. Given that, as some say, the car tire would still flex, there are 2 factors. 1. That car tire was made to take more weight than what you'll have on the RSV. So, while it will flex it will not flex as much as designed for and will probably give a razors edge on the road. 2. you have substantially more "tread" to a auto tire where as a MC tire has more flat surface. As an example, try getting any NASCAR driver to drive with tires that have tread. They would just laugh...not enough contact area with a tire with tread, hence the slicks, more contact area. Good luck.

Go out to start the bike at work yesterday. Hit the switch, turns over but doesn't start. Hit the switch again, engine turns and stops (kinda like the hot start issue sound), hit the switch again bike starts. Get on and notice that the odometer is actually on the odometer (I usually leave it on trip 1 and have left trip 2 unreset since I got the bike (to keep track of how many miles I've actually ridden it since getting it.) Both the tripometers are reset to zero. However, all of the radio stations I have set are still set as normal. It was 42 one the ride in and dipped to about 30 in the morning but was about 57 or so when I went to start it. Have no idea how old the battery is. It's a sealed, yamaha branded battery so I figure it's probably the second battery and is, roughly about 4 or 5 years old. It was low enough winter before last to not even turn the scoot over. Put it on the battery minder and it was good to go again and rode with it all last summer. Kept it on the minder every week or so this winter so no problem till yesterday. I'm thinking this is a sign that the battery is dying and the voltage dropped low enough to, have the hard start, reset the trip meters and put the odometer back showing. Any thoughts?

Ooooops, sorry, it has to be You, your bike and a caboose but your trunk must be shut!! Good job, looks like a winner to me.
-
Exactly what I did this summer. The 03 YZF600R isn't exactly the off road type but it's better for all around riding like, in town, some highway, more nimble etc. Still have the 99 for the long trips, better comfort and all the bells and whistles.

Don't know. I think I could get into that Charcoal Silver 08!! Only thing I don't care for on the 08 is the tank detailing. Makes it look ... I don't know ... smaller?

Yeah, they all have the CB, Intercom and Pillow top...wait, not sure about the midnight having pillow top. But, yes, CB, Intercom, Cassette deck...

That's what I thought as well.

Rear Shock Air Pressure
gibvel replied to a topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
Chili, Where do you keep your front tire pressure. I notice a slight wobble in the front, on corners, if the tire pressure is a bit low. I usually keep them aired to max sidewall. Also maybe want to check the head bearings for play and tightness. -
Actually, I thought it was DocO who was supposed to supply the first prize.
-
Okay, but what's the first prize?

Thanks for the pic Dan. That does give a good representation of the tint on the shield and a good view of how it looks from behind. That picture may have answered the post I just posted about the curve at the top being an optical distortion. Oh, look, you beat me to it again. You're just quick like a bunny, aren't you!!
-
One other question. I understand that there's a little "flip" up at the very top of the shield. If you look through the shield, at that point, is there any optical distortion that would cause any problems?

Ahhhh the 2006 Model Tank badges, right? http://www.totalmotorcycle.com/photos/2006models/2006-Yamaha-RoyalStar-Venture.jpg

There was, at least, 1 on a 1st gen. that I saw, I think maybe 2.

Yeah, Dan, those are all options I was going to go for. Thanks for the heads up about the flies though...although I do wear a full face. Thanks for the info guys. One nice thing is, I may not have to pay for shipping if I want to run down and get it.

I think I'm, kind of, Long waisted, Kbay. I do have to stretch quite a bit to see over though but I can still see over it. Wouldn't want to ride for any length of time sitting like that though. I'm still deciding between the XL and the XXL myself so, hopefully I'll be ordering one or the other here soon as well.

Cool WIKD!! That bit about the water movement is very informative. That's exactly what I wanted to hear. That it moved the water even without rain-X.
-
Dave, Is that for your Venture Royal? I just sold my VR and didn't just now took that out of my CP. I'm looking for that info on the RSV that I still have. Sounds like their fairly similar though, height wise. Thanks

A couple of questions: 1. I'm 6' and, if I sit up straight, I can see over the stock shield. With the XXL I've Heard tell of people, shorter than I, being able to see over the XXL. Is there any truth to this? What are your experiences? 2. Does the air move water up and off the Clearview shield better than on the stock? This is also something that I've heard. Some say that the Clearview has more rake to it which makes the water push off of it better in the rain. Thoughts and comments. Thanks all.
