1. When the book says it won't start with it in gear AND THE KICKSTAND DOWN, believe it. Clutch don't help in that situation. Put it in neutral and it works as advertised. If you're talking to me, you can bet on it. Any time I'm not using the stool (the maintenance one), it will be lashed to the ceiling. Oh, and thanks for the drop/no-drop explanation, DragonRider. That's almost another gallon of gas.
2. Sounds like the bike didn't go down, just you, right? And, you have a medical excuse. That doesn't count. Let me tell a tale told by an idiot . . . My daughter's about to move to New Jersey and yesterday she wanted to go for a ride before she headed out. Great ride. Mostly flying around the flagpole, but we covered most of the county--all back roads. After 3 or 4 hours we decide to head back. Everything's fine. Get to the driveway, stop, open the garage door, and start down into the garage. Made it in, everything's OK. (You don't know how this hurts to continue here . .) Now, and this is where the "stupid" comes in, I plant my right foot on the tool tray of my roll-around maintenance stool. The stool shot forward, the bike and I, and my daughter, shot to the right. The bike didn't go all the way down, the handle of my jack stopped it. HOWEVER, the bike won't start. Got all the flashing lights, fuel pump winding up, etc., but it's like the kill switch is engaged (but it isn't). I was too disgusted to check it out yesterday, and still haven't today. Maybe after it cools down a bit this evening. My question is, since the bike didn't go all the way down, and since I didn't get beat up (nor did my daughter), does this count as a "drop" where I have to hit the 'donate' button? Let me save you some time, folks, yes, I do feel like one of the old fools I used to make fun of. Actually, I still do, it's just that I'm one of them now. I'll wait for your responses before I punch the button.
3. I've read several posts here about the Metzler tires self destructing and have wondered why. The reasons have varied from "no quality control" to "their just junk tires." I'm not a Metz fan--I run Avons--but I'm wondering if a thing I saw recently on ABC News could shed some light on the subject. It was an investigative report by John(?) Ross and dealt with the manufacturing dates on tires; some companies are selling tires that were produced as long as 10 or 12 years before they are bought off the shelf as "new." One of the consequences, according to the report, is "tires dried out on the inside" causing separation of tread at low mileages. They used anecdotal evidence for the most part--similar to the Bridgstone problem a few years back--but there was one shot of a tire in a cage that destructed while spinning. No guarantee that it was properly inflated or anything else though--just their implication that is was. By the way, they were going by the manufactured-date code on the tires. For instance, the code 199 translated to the 19th week of 1999 for manufacture. 1902 would be the 19th week of 2002. Mr. Tartan, can you verify any of this as feasible/plausible/probable? I gather you're in the business and I'm not sure I trust ABC News. (Can anyone else verify it?) Thanks for any input on this. Again, I'm just trying to get at the truth through objective evidence.

5. Googled "saddlebag liners" and got a few hits. Here are two. You might want to Google it yourself--there's a page of 'em. I can't remember where I bought mine, but they were about $90 for the side and trunk bags and included name sewn on each bag. Real handy for travel--just pop 'em out and take them to the room. http://www.tlcproducts.com/servlet/Categories?category=Yamaha http://www.jcwhitney.com/Motorcycle-Saddlebag-Liners/600014545.jcw?VT=sch&gclid=CIOa8Ze9xZMCFRLoxgodVhxWHA Hope this helps.
6. Great comments! Love the F1, too. I've got a friend who's been anti-Ferrari for some time. Had lunch with him after the last 1-2 sweep and he finally admitted that Ferrari just has its stuff together better than the other teams. I told him I heard a new rule for next year would require the Ferraris to TOW a competitor half the race each and that Hamilton was adding front tow hooks to his car right now. (Yeah, we're still friends.) F-3 . . . reminds me of the Japanese Grand Prix in '71(?). It was an F-2 event and Jackie Stewart came over to give lessons. Amazing. After the first half dozen laps he looked like he was racing by himself--way out in front! Tartan Terror would be proud because all you could see above the cockpit were his tartan colors on the white helmet. Used to watch Indy and NASCAR, but my attitude toward both of them has changed. Indy because of the split mentioned above and NASCAR . . . well, I'd just rather watch paint dry. I guess the sport has left me in the dust. (I've never seen Kyle Petty race, but saw his dad and his granddad, Lee, race many times--on TV.) Monaco? I'm biased . . . gotta' be a Ferrari 1-2 sweep (although Michael had his problems there a couple times).
7. Crap! $5 a drop? OK, Don, I'll send my next paycheck to you . . . I lost count on the drops a couple years ago. ---------- OK, me an PayPal are going to have to part ways--I can never get in there withou a fight. So, Don, PM me your mailing address and I'll just set up a monthly donation through my bank. You'll have to open their mail and take the check to the bank, but I don't want any account information for a direct payment, OK? Thanks.
8. Don, Just checked the PayPal donation site and realized there's no way to commit to several donations over time. That is, instead of making a one-time donation, set up a series of payments. This would be very convenient for donors and would give you a warm-fuzzy about income consistency--all voluntarily. Any way you can arrange this? Just a thought.
9. Thanks and yep, I was confusing the two. Sure didn't look right, but couldn't break the code. Thanks again.
10. I looked through the thread(s) here on xenon lights and figured a changeover would run me 150-200 bucks. Is this the same thing everyone's talking about, or am I missing the fine print? http://www.jcwhitney.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Product?storeId=10101&Pr=p_Product.CATENTRY_ID%3A2014567&TID=8014524F&TID=8014524F&productId=2014567&catalogId=10111 Appreciate comments/advice. Thanks.
11. Just wonderin' . . . . . . where's Spring?
12. Thanks for the memories . . .
13. Ding, ding, ding, ding . . . We have a winner!! Oh, and the only Rubber Ducky I remember was that truck driver thing, Convoy. Don't remember the guys name, but it can't hold a candle to this Laura thing. Too bad he didn't die instantly instead of hanging on long enough to "sing" that song.
14. Brian, No offense, but this could be a candidate for that other thread on "worst songs ever." Just sayin' . . . good idea, bad execution. (Yeah, I'm an OF who doesn't appreciate the metal.)
15. I believe that's TWO words, but I was educated in West Virginia, so I could be wrong . . .
16. "I'm going with.....an old 70's song.....Seasons in the Sun! ACK!" You were right the first time. However, there are too many "coffee house" songs of the 60s to let ANYTHING else take the title. And, does anyone remember Joan Baez? Of course, she's disqualified because those weren't songs she was warbling. OK, now you've got me started . . . all these losers rattling around in my head . . . gotta' go find the Prozac.
17. This one's been around before . . . too funny.
18. Nylon wing nuts. If it does, you have bigger problems than a lost seat!
19. Just installed the Baron's 1.5" risers on my 03 RSV. Baron's guarantees they'll fit without re-cabling. They did, but if it hadn't been for a few folks here who'd done it, I might not have installed 'em. The cables fit, but it's not easy. I had to install the right side first, then the left, after I'd loosened the clutch side bundle at the handlebar. Since we're having some crappy weather, I haven't been able to check them out on a run--check for binding, etc.--but what a difference they make in positioning. (I installed them to avoid hitting my knees in lock turns--works fine for that.) Good luck.
20. I don't carry, but I feel fine (and appreciative) when I'm around the legal carriers. This has been a great thread, both entertaining and informative. There have only been a couple low spots, i.e., deviation from logic and reason, skirting on demagoguary, but even these have been good contributions. I also agree that this mudhole has been stomped dry and it's time to move onto other subjects, hopefully related to morotcycling.
21. Again, thank you all. I didn't have to raise the tank; it was a bit of a tussle and a challenge, and I didn't have to pull the neck cover. One thing I did have to do: I had to put the right one on first. I had loosened the left cable tie (on the bar) and couldn't get the right side on after I got the left one on. After a few minutes of grumbling, I tried putting the right side on first, tightening it down finger tight, then raising the bars as high as the dash would allow, and slipping the left side in. Worked like a champ. (No pictures--I didn't want any evidence.) Now, I've got plenty of clearance between my knees and the brake and clutch levers. So much, in fact, I'll be able to LOWER the bars from max position a bit. Now, I've received a lot of help on this board and I want to do something that'll make me feel a little better. Since your advice (and a PM) saved me at least $70 bucks at the dealer's, I'm making a small donation in your names to this site. Don't know what that'll do for you--won't even get you a cup of coffee, but what the heck. I'll work out the details with Don, but for me it's the best way to handle this. Thanks again.
22. Thanks, guys, that's exactly what I needed--a little inside info. Now, if the garage warms up enough tomorrow, I'll get that come-along. By the way, I'm trying to get the bars up enough to keep from hitting my knees in lock turns. I'm sure they'll work because I can ALMOST raise the stock bars enough. Thanks again.
23. OK, I've lost another round of "Stump the Dummy." That'll be the subtitle to my autobiography one day, "King Loser of Stump the Dummy." I bought the Baron's 1.5" risers some time ago for my 03 RSV and am just now getting around to installing them--the garage and outside temperature are 38 degrees, plenty warm enough to do this simple job. To make a longer story shorter, there isn't enough slack in my cabling to allow the handlebars to slip into the risers. Oh, sure, I could hook a come-along to 'em and the garage wall, coul put it all back together and drop it off at the dealer, or I could even take Baron's up on their guarantee. BUT, before I do any of these, I wanted to check and see if there's a trick to this, or if the temperature is too cool to allow the lines to limber up enough, or is there a clamp I cannot see that's holding things up? Any and all assistance is greatly appreciated. Snakebit.
24. Had the same problem with a 3/4 and a 1/2--concluded it was from buffeting, which I was getting when I rode with the face shields in the up position. Couldn't touch that spot on my forehead for a couple days afterward. With the shields down (the beam-me-up-Scotty position), no problem.
25. TJ, I've had trigger finger for a few years now. In my instance, it was brought on by diabetes (so the doctor says). I've had the injections you're talking about. I don't know the exact compound but there is a numbing agent and a mild steriod to shrink the tendon (if I understood the doctor correctly). My injections were in the knuckles of my index fingers and at the base of my thumb. There is some pain, but grin and bear it because it's worth it. As far as how long between treatments, it will vary. My first one lasted for a few--3 or 4 years--and the last one, a little over 2 years ago is still effective. If the injections don't work, I believe the next step is similar to surgery for carpal tunnel syndrome, but don't quote me on that--I haven't gotten that far yet. Do you really need to fix the condition? Don't know, it seems to me to be more of a nuisance than something that has serious consequences. Shouldn't be a problem riding with it/them: your fingers will not be in a position to "trigger" and griping the handlebar will also prevent it. Ride on and good luck.
