9:00 pm and feeling fine. I got the 84 unloaded and the smoke cleared out. Looks like a nice week ahead.Going to be on the fishing pier at 6:30 in the morning. No doubt MamaMo will be up to see the sunrise.

We got to Hatteras Island at 1:00 pm. The smoke is so thick from those wildfires 50 miles to our west it's hard to breath. MamaMo feed us some nasty turkey sandwiches I hope the meat was ok. She just bought it from kroger thursday night and had it on ice the whole time down but I think it was bad.She forgot to check the date on the package. So if we make it through should have a good time.More later I got to unload the 84 after supper.:cool10:

Sorry to miss the main event at Freebirds Maint Day. So just tell Yammer Dan to represent WV chapter and eat my share of the food. Were out of here in 1 hr. I expect to see lots of pictures posted when I get to the beach. I got two pc's loaded so our next post is from Hatteras Island. The 84 is strapped down good in the back of my pickup.

Thanks Arthur it looks like unhealthy air and smoke advisories from the Richmond metro on south. If that western Manteo entrance is closed it could mean more traffic congestion from the north. Were leaving in about an hour from now. Should be there by noon. I hope to get in the house rental by 1 or 2pm.

Rumours of possible road closures to outer banks. I need an update on that possibility. We may be leaving early if necessary. #@%# Wild Fires!!

FROG MAN replied to FROG MAN's topic in Watering Hole
Water is back down so we can cross the creek. I'm taking the day off tomorrow to cut tree's from the yard. We still have no phone at home or electric at the camp. Looks like we survived this one OK. Bags are packed to leave now to load the 84 on the truck. -

#@!# Sh#! just had a big tree lay down in my back yard. Almost took out the motorcycle shed missed it by 2 ft. Several more close to the house. This could be a night!! -
It always happens before I leave on vacation something always something. Bad storms one after another all day and night. Internet went down last night now the phone is out but internet is back up.If we get more rain might loose the foot bridge again. The stream is up no way to get in or OUT!! Were leaving Friday night I hope. Trees down, back yard full of water. I stopped by the camp this evening and my brand new locust rail fence is busted by a fallen locust tree. I never told MamaMo yet but that tree hit a ROSE!!

Shady lady felt pretty light coming back from Baltimore. I hardly noticed her back there gliding in the wind. Unlike that 86 I hauled from NC.:whistling:

I pulled an old set of mark lands off the 84 last year. They were not in the best of shape but may still be somewhere in the shed. Unless the pawn shop bandit that made off with my air tools and chain saw got them. If you don't find one look me up at the Skid Inn and I'll take a look around the shed.

FROG MAN replied to FROG MAN's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Bob that nut on mine was so rusty I didn't dare try to break it loose. The scoot sat in storage for 13 years before I got it.It now has only 23K. -
Just add another chorus to that old WV fishing song. I'm gonna miss her when I get home! But right now I'm on RT 19 setting in the sun!!!:rotf:

My fuel gage went from working part time to not working at all. So over the weekend I done a last minute repair before vacation next week. The fuel float assembly is attached to a mechanical wiper arm that brushes across a wire wound resistor in the control unit. As the float bowel moves with a change in fuel tank level the resistance varies from 0 ohms Full to 330 ohms empty. 1. Place bike on center stand, remove seat, unplug the sender connector and clean around the 4 bolts holding fuel float and sender unit in tank. 2. Make sure there is less then a full tank of fuel before removing the bolts and lifting unit off of the seal. 3. Maneuver the assembly around as needed to lift the sender unit, and float rod assembly out of the tank. This can be done without removing the gas tank 4. Take the unit to a clean working area and dry off before working on the sender. 5. Take a small screwdriver flat blade and gently pry off the sender cover side housing. Be careful not to break the 3 metal tabs securing the cover. 6. Now remove all rust particles and loose debris trapped in the sender unit. Spray clean the mechanical wiper arm with an electrical contact cleaner. Using an ohm meter you can measure the resistance at the output terminals. Raising the float 0 ohms and dropping to empty open circuit. The wire wound resister varies from 0 to 330 ohms. 7. In my situation the wiper arm had to be gently bent to add tension so a better contact could be made. I even found the resister bowed in the middle and had to bend it back in to position. 8. When your satisfied with your repairs you can re attach the side cover and plug the sender back into the wiring harness, turn on the key and test your gage before re installing in the tank.Vary the float level and watch your gage indication change. Make sure your float is good before re installing. P/S For your comfort there is a small voltage/current flowing through the wiper arm from the fuel gage. So if your gage arc's while setting on 4 gallon you won't feel a thing. A new meaning to the term After Burners.

Called up my local dealer about slow leak in tire. He says the product they carry is for off road motorcycles only. Recommended using 1/2 can of Fix-A-Flat. I don't think so I heard it is not recommended for motorcycles. Is there anything over the counter locally that is comparable to ride-on? It's $50 to buy a 3 bottle kit on line direct. Do you want it this week add an extra $15 for express shipping.I don't know anything about the Slime product.I'm tempted to order the ride-on but I need it ASAP.

Front tire dropped 12 lb of pressure from Monday evening to Thursday evening. I guess I'll be working on it this weekend. -

Redneck I hate to burn down a piece of history. She lives in the old farm house that once belonged to my grandfather.

We patrol the camp about three times a day. This evening at 6:00 pm I turned into the access road and could see a vehicle parked beside the same rose bush that was stole last time. As I drove closer I noticed a woman standing on our road bank. When I got up next to her car she was getting back inside as I drove by I noticed fresh dirt where a rose had been. I done an immediate U-turn and pulled in front of her car and blocked her in. I confronted her and ask her why she just stole my rose bush? She flatly denied stealing it so I took her licensee plate number and told her you got 5 minutes to put it back or I will report this incident. I'll be back in 5 minutes to check it out. I drove the mile home and called MamaMo. She couldn't wait to get home and open up a big can of whoop #!@ on her. When I drove back down the woman was watching from a distance to see if I would return. Sure enough the rose bush was back where it was. Moral of the story is buy your wife a rose once in a while she might leave your neighbors alone. This is a neighbor who drives by every day. Get this she even called me one night to tell me someone may have broken into my camp and just thought I should know. I hope MamaMo is in a better mood when she gets home. I would hate to think I'm leaving for the beach in a week and she is in jail. What would I do with out her at the beach? Fish,Ride the bike, Check out the ladies on the beach! Hmmmmmm?
