  1. OK, here's the symptoms.. This afternoon while waiting at a signal I looked down at my amp gauge, and it shows a deep discharge. The turn signal was on, and the front brake was on. So I had a bunch of lights going on, and the amp meter fell every time the signal blinked, or the front brake was applied.. However... when I applied the rear brake the change needle barely showed any draw, and the rear brake light did light up. Rode it home from the Doc's and never had any trouble starting it, and as long as I didn't use the blinkers or the front hand brake the gauge show'd normal charge. Now I just went out to check things out again, and without starting the engine, I put on the left and right turn signal they lit up but didn't blink. They did show a big battery draw. I fired up the engine and tried them and away they went and blinked like they were supposed to. All lights, including the headlight, were bright, running or not. Any ideas? This is really weird... I might also add that the bike has a new battery.
  2. Published Wed, May 28, 2008 8:44 AM COLUMBIA, S.C. South Carolina has joined six other states that let motorcyclists, mo-ped drivers and bicyclists run red lights that don't change within a couple minutes of their stopping. Gov. Mark Sanford signed the bill into law Tuesday. It requires motorcyclists, mo-peds and bicycles to stop for two minutes before entering an intersection if a traffic signal has not turned green. Motorcyclists pushed the legislation because they said automatic signal controls using sensor embedded in roads don't always detect their bikes. The American Motorcyclist Association says Arkansas, Idaho, Minnesota, North Carolina, Tennessee and Wisconsin have similar laws.
  3. Hi Guys! I just got my new cooler rack from Al's Motorcycle Accesories (Wow he does nice work!) Now, with the cooler sitting in the rack it (of course) blocks my turn signal lights. So, I would like to hook-up a couple of LED turn-signals to the back of the rack. My Diamond-R LED brakelight which is mounted under the trunk, takes care my brakelight issues, so now I just need some LED, turn signal lights which look complementary to everything else back there. Hopefully, I can find ones which can be mounted flush against the mesh along the backside of my cooler rack. Power for the cooler rack lights will come from my trailer hitch power plug. Please, let me know if you have any suggestions. I don't want to spend too much on them, but I do want them to look like they were meant to be there. I will attach a couple of pics so that you can get a better idea of what I'm working with. Thanks in advance & Be Safe! Pete.
  4. On my 83, to manually cancel the signal lights, I have to push down on the button. On Squidleys 86 that I rode, to manually cancel, I pushed the button in. This was the same as my 79 850 Special I had before the Venture. I like the push style much better. I did not remember to look closely at squid's bike to see if it is the same basic set up as my Standard 83 with his being a Royale. I know there is more controls above it that I don't have, but I forgot to look at how they attached. When was the changeover on this and what will fit mine with the "push in cancel"? My auto cancel works, sometimes I like to cancel quicker. RandyA
  5. I hooked up my passing lamps today. Found the wiring diagram here on this site, followed it, now here is what I have. With the lamps turned on, right turn signal works fine. Turn on the left turn signal, both turn signals and headlight flash and the radio goes dead. I have gone over the wiring to make sure everything is hooked up according to the instructions that I have, but still the same thing happens. I have my power from the battery through a fused wire to a relay, from the relay I ran another wire to a seperate switch, from the relay another wire powered by ignition. Any ideas guys, sure could use some. Thanks.
  6. 07 venture purchased new in oct.....want to add running /brake/turn to the rear....i see on this sight kits from cruisercustomizing....one from tri-star........so ..which is the better of the two as to hook-up, performance.....and, can you get red lenses for the signal lights or do you have to get red bulbs......
  7. Does any one know where I can purchase red turn signal lenses for the rear of an RSV? I want to purchase a run-stop-turn module and will be needing red lenses.I know I can get red LED's ,but don't want to use a load equalizer and I like the self canceling turn signals.I have seen them on other member's bikes on this forum, but can't seem to find them anywhere.I also thought about using the Harley accessory tail light, but don't know if they could be wired to also function as turn signals.Any help would be greatly appreciated, such as where to buy, part #s,etc.
  8. will the front turn signal from a '83 fit a '93?? am looking at one on e-bay and don't want to bid on it if it won't fit. Don H.
  9. More chrome! Has anyone tried these things? How does light shine through chrome? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Yamaha-V-Max-Road-Star-VStar-650-1100-CHROME-LENSES_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ35580QQihZ011QQitemZ320198418772QQrdZ1QQsspagenameZWDVW
  10. Left turn signal doesn't seem to work when I apply the switch. When I apply the 4 way flasher all lights work. I assume that it means that I have a switch problem at the left handlebar control. Iowa Guy
  11. i am looking at the schematic for the cruise control system and i see that the speed signal is picked up electrically off the back of the speedo cluster. without pulling my speedo off to check, does anyone know if this is a milliamp signal, or a 12 volt pulse that triggers the cruise control box. ( i have a friend with an 85 vmaxx and he has an 86 venture that he wants to pull the cruise off and put on the vmaxx.)

  13. Well I have a problem with my turn signals they work on emergency flash and they burn fine when the bike is running but when I try to use the turn signal all I get is a buzzing noise from the flasher/hazard relay. Bought a used one from Pinwall cycle parts same thing buzzing noise. I attempted to clean the contacts in the switch. Is there a voltage I should look for at the main connector to the flasher/hazard relay? Thanks Jim
  14. What headlight modulators are people using and is there any problems with the light bulb burnout feature. I was looking at signal dynamics and the Kisan ones. Thanks Jim.
  15. Hello, I am trying to track down the lack of turn signal on my 1991 I have checked all fuses and connections-the bike is almost skinless should I consider replacing the signal relay?-its $130.00!! The front "turn signal" lights are fine in a runny light condition-but no turn signal. The back siganl lights give me nothing-all bulbs are new I worked hard all winter to get the bike painted and detailed-just bought it last year BUT I can't ride in Cleveland Ohio without turnsignals Your input would be greatly appreciated
  16. Is it just my bike? or do you have the same problem? Myself. (not that far away) Like to turn my turn signals on before I turn left or right. Just like I do in my truck. The problem I have always have had is the turn signal always turns OFF (times-out) before I get to the turn and I have to set it again, Is there a way to make it stay on longer? Thanks for any info. (2000 RSV) Jeff
  17. Has anyone else had this problem? The wire harness for the front turn signals, light bar, etc, is routed right between the steering stops below the headlight...In the past few weeks, a wire has worked up over the stop and been pinched and shorted out the lights. Last night I lost all my lights, I found the right turn signal wire cut and fried, last week it was one of the light bar passing lights, and before that , the same turn signal. I have tried pulling them as far as they will go in either direction, and still stay plugged in, but they keep working back in the line of the pinch point. I used zip ties to get them out of the way this time. I think I have an idea about an alternative way to route them but it may require drilling a hole in the back half of the fairing and feeding them through...this would eliminate the problem altogether... Unless someone has a better idea, I will try that next week... I am heading out for a few days this Friday for a color tour, so I don't want to tear into it right now....stocking up on fuses and electrical tape for the trip in the mean time...
