  1. Today I was impressed, flattered, amazed, shown generosity, floored and just plain blown away. The people that showed up were not what I might of expected, they were much more. in fact, I really did not think people were like this anymore. Y'all pitched in, offered help where it was needed and many offered donations. Y'all are a bunch of really nice people, even in person, lol. I have a whole new outlook towards VentureRider.org members! When y'all spoke about a family, y'all really meant it. I sure saw it today. I had PM's for offers of manuals, mc jacks, drinks, coolers, chairs, a tent and many other things. Many of those items were here today. MonkeyNutZ (Rainey), ThunderNutZ (Laik) and NumbNutZ (Lyric) have two new Granpa's - Granpa GunBoat and Grandpa Ponch. The kids latched on to them and they really enjoyed each other. We had 20 bikes show up and had about 25 people here - from three states. My first M&E and it turned out very very well. I want to thank every one that came. i really enjoyed meeting y'all and hope to see y'all in the future. A special thank you to Goose. He helped a lot of people with vents and carbs tuned with his famous gauges. Lonestarmedic solved my flashing battery light issue (thank you) and texasyamahamama's E4 error. Granpa GunBoat was very helpful in moving things around and helping. BVinson helped out a lot himself with items for the M&E and even smoked some brisket early this morning (just after midnight). MAINEAC closed the day leaving in his Ryder truck. if I missed anyone, whoops. I know, I know - Pics please - http://s17.photobucket.com/albums/b53/gigawhiskey/Southern Maintenance Day/?albumview=slideshow Now I am safe in my neighborhood! They prolly think if they mess with me, they have bikers to deal with! I noticed they all stayed inside, guess it worked, LOL.
  2. I don't think I could take this walk! This is absolutely spectacular. May make you queasy but definitely worthwhile..... El Caminito del Rey (The King's pathway) is a walkway, now fallen into disrepair, pinned along the steep walls of a narrow gorge in El Chorro, near Álora in Málaga, Spain. The name is often shortened to El Camino del Rey. History In 1901 it was obvious that the workers of the ChorroFalls and GaitanejoFalls needed a walkway to cross between the falls, to provide transport of materials, vigilance and maintenance of the channel. Construction of the walkway lasted four years. It was finished in 1905.In 1921 the king Alfonso XIII had to cross the walkway for the inauguration of the dam Conde del Guadalhorce, and it became known by its present name. The walkway has now gone many years without maintenance, and is in a highly deteriorated and dangerous state. It is one meter in width over a 700-meter fall, and over time it has lost its handrail. Some parts of the walkway have completely collapsed and have been replaced by a beam and a metallic wire on the wall. Many people have lost their lives on the walkway in recent years. After four people died in two accidents in 1999 and 2000, the local government closed the entrances. However, adventurous tourists still find their way into the walkway.Another mid-day stroll for the ecotourists among you........ http://www.brightcove.tv/title.jsp?title=1438490562 .
  3. Bought an Odyessy PC680 battery for my RSMV. The battery I got with the bike when I bought it in November/07, crapped out on me. Left me and the misses stranded in Port Dover on Friday the 13th in the pouring rain, mixed in with the thunder and lightning. Motorcycle people are great people, very friendly. A complete stranger from Alberta, visiting relatives, pulled his BMW MC up to mine, pulled out a set of booster cables and got me started. Gave him a big hug and a thank you, rode home in the rain. Today, pulled the old battery out, drove to Great Northern Battery in Hamilton and got myself the Odyessy. Hopefully no more problems for a while. I'm tired of the garbage that goes up for sale from places like China that dealerships dump into our bikes because they are so cheap. Made in North America, that's what I like.
  4. O.K. people...we are getting down to the short strokes, as they say. We are having some difficulty in getting the actual count on the number of shirts ordered so far because some people are only leaving their first name or their initials when they are emailing their t-shirt order and it's darn near impossible to figure out who's order it is. WE need the full name, and email address or telephone number, how you are paying, the number of t-shirts being ordered, the colour (black or grey) short sleeved or long sleeved and the size. Email your shirt order to: Venture_rally_stuff@yahoo.com ANYWAY....it looks like we're around 75 t-shirts ordered right now. WE need at least 100 shirt orders to make this fly! ANYONE wanting a T-shirt needs to get their order in NOW!! I need to call in the order Friday morning so we need to hit 100 by this Friday morning at 7:00a.m. at the latest. Anyone that has not yet registered needs to do that now as well, because the T-shirt that is included in that registration is part of that order. Send in your registration to: venturerally@hotmail.com PLEASE...PLEASE...PLEASE....let's hit the 100 shirt mark and make this happen!!
  5. Will it ever end or would someone please get a handle on these people. Jury Duty Scam DO NOT DELETE WITHOUT READING ! This has been verified by the FBI (their link is also included below). Please pass this on to everyone in your email address book. It is spreading fast so be prepared should you get this call. Most of us take those summonses for jury duty seriously, but enough people skip out on their civic duty, that a new and ominous kind of fraud has surfaced. The caller claims to be a jury coordinator. If you protest that you never received a summons for jury duty, the scammer asks you for your Social Security number and date of birth so he or she can verify the information and cancel the arrest warrant. Give out any of this information and bingo; your identity was just stolen. The fraud has been reported so far in 11 states, including Oklahoma , Illinois , and Colorado . This (swindle) is particularly insidious because they use intimidation over the phone to try to bully people into giving information by pretending they are with the court system. The FBI and the federal court system have issued nationwide alerts on their web sites, warning consumers about the fraud. Check it out here: http://www.fbi.gov/page2/june06/jury_scams060206.htm And here: http://www.snopes.com/crime/fraud/juryduty.asp
  6. Yammer home and going to bed. Had great time at Maint day. Got to see people again. No sleep since Friday morning!!! GOOD NIGHT!!!
  7. The 2008 VentureRider Rally committee is having to deal with the fact that the response for this rally has been far less than anticipated. To date we have approx. 29 people registered. The event is just over 7 weeks away and in view of the poor response, we find we will probably need to make some changes to what we had planned. The plan originally was for the campground to provide a breakfast for us each morning…our thought was that it would have been better and easier for us if we were all having breakfast together in one place so we could chat and socialize and then head out on our rides, similar to what we did in Colorado. We negotiated hard with the campground to get a good price on a good breakfast, however that was based on a party of approx. 100 people. With the response that we have so far, it would appear that we will have to cancel that breakfast and hopefully get our deposit back. We will then simply head out each morning to the various spots for breakfast and then meet at a spot to head out on the rides. The response for the patches and T-shirts has also been less than anticipated. The people registered so far for T-shirts, which includes pre-registrants, is approx. 31. Similar to the breakfast order, the t-shirt prices that we received were based on a minimum order of 100. We are far short of that and since there is a 3 week turnaround from order to pickup date, we would need to have that order in by approx. June 1st – that’s only 2 ½ weeks away. If we do not have the minimum order of 100 units, the price would be far too high and we will have to forget the idea of t-shirts, which we know would be a shame to many members. Response for the trailer raffle ticket sales has also been very slow. To date we have had 11 people buy raffle tickets, for a sales total of $295.00. To buy the trailer for this raffle we require at least $1,150.00. We are not even close and if we do not reach that amount in time, our suggestion would be to simply buy some decent prizes with that money. Those people who have already purchased raffle tickets would have a chance for some very nice prizes…perhaps a GPS, an IPOD etc. The bottom line is this: if we do not get enough response by Friday May 30th, we are going to make changes. We will NOT cancel the event, those that want to come and have a good time will still do that, and we are looking forward to that. I know this committee is looking forward to meeting some new friends, and getting re-acquainted with some old friends. We will however, cancel the group breakfast and also have to cancel getting t-shirts. If that happens, those that have pre-registered and paid up will receive the appropriate refund when you get here. The Wednesday evening wrap-up dinner is still on. Here again are the contact and email listings for the various functions: To register contact Hal at venturerally@hotmail.com To order patches or T-shirts contact Al at venture_rally_stuff@yahoo.com To purchase raffle tickets contact Reiny at reinyrooster@hotmail.com The link to the rally page that has all the information that anyone might need is in my signature below. If we don’t get sufficient numbers to continue as originally planned by May 30th, the rally registration after that date will be $30.00, which will include the Wednesday night wrap-up dinner.
  8. Jeannie will be coming HOME early next week. the Dr.s on her team, have determined that her heart is TOO weak and fragile, to undergo any type of surgery. she told the social worker, when asked about a nursing home:"hell no! i know what you people will do.you get me in there, then won't let me out, and then the next thing i know, you'll take my house!" at any rate, she will be here, with me, until her time gets short, then they will send out "hospice people" to keep her comfortable, 'till, her time runs out. and now , words fail me. i can't thank ALL of you enough for the support and prayers. just jt
  9. well no one has ever made a plea like this that i know of ,so here it goes. we have around 5,000 members on here, some just sit back and enjoy the benefit's. alot of us are doers. nothing wrong with that. but in my opinion we need more people around the two countries usa, and canada to sponser meet and eats. believe me folks they are more fun to get together than you can imagine, and a great chance to meet great people and help promote a great site. i love seeing people get together and have a great time. i enjoy putting on meets and attending them. it's not hard to do. if anyone wants to have a meet and eat but does'nt know how to do it just ask and i and many others would be glad to give you input. i know i could do one almost every weekend and never get tired of it. nice thing about meet and eats is the people that don't have alot of vacation can participate if they are close to home. so think about it and lets do it. bill :clap2:
  10. Minorities We need to show more sympathy for these people. * They travel miles in the heat. * They risk their lives crossing a border. * They don't get paid enough wages. * They do jobs that others won't do or are afraid to do. * They live in crowded conditions among a people who speak a different language. * They rarely see their families, and they face adversity all day, every day. I'm not talking about illegal Mexicans; I'm talking about OUR TROOPS! Doesn't it seem strange that many Democrats and Republicans are willing to lavish all kinds of social benefits on illegals, but don't support our troops and are now threatening to defund them? Please pass this on; this is worth the short time it takes to read it.
  11. wow I like the new stuff to edit our profiles........neet...... can't wait to see what people with do theirs! Played with mine a little....lots of fun to figure out.
  12. Is there a way to print out the names and phone #'s of the people in the vr assistance list by state? Thanks Mike
  13. And they say bikers take chances..........but not like this..........this is suicidal.................... In Zimbabwe , Africa, you will find the magnificent Victoria Falls , at a height of 128m. The location is known as the 'Devil's Swimming Pool'. During the months of September and December, people can swim as close as possible to the edge of the falls without falling over. These falls are becoming well known amongst the 'radical tourist' industry, when more and more people search for the ultimate experience. Would you dare?
  14. I like Mellow Yellow better than the blue. I have been using it since Don put it there. What is funny, when people see this page up at work, they wonder if I have an issue with my monitor. So, I will keep this theme until it gets pulled. Who all uses this theme?
  15. HOW TO CALL THE POLICE WHEN YOU'RE OLD AND DON'T MOVE FAST ANYMORE.George Phillips of Meridian, Mississippi was going up to bed when his wife told him that he'd left the light on in the garden shed, which she could see from the bedroom window. George opened the back door to go turn off the light but saw that there were people in the shed stealing things. He phoned the police, who asked "Is someone in your house," and he said "no." Then they said that all patrols were busy, and that he should simply lock his door and an officer would be along when available. George said, "Okay," hung up, counted to 30, and phoned the police again. "Hello, I just called you a few seconds ago because there were people stealing things from my shed. Well, you don't have to worry about them now because I just shot them." Then he hung up. Within five minutes six police cars, a SWAT Team, a helicopter, two fire trucks, a paramedic and an ambulance showed up at the Phillips' residence and caught the burglars red-handed. One of the Policemen said to George: "I thought you said that you'd shot them!" George said, "I thought you said there was nobody available!"(True Story) I LOVE IT - Don't mess with old people.
  16. spent a nice afternoon with cindy, dale and allan, ate at a fantastic pizza house in st. charles. good people, good food, made for a perfect sunday.
  17. I've had it with my radio on my 83 VR.. I screwed with it non stop, cleaned it and and even replaced it with one I picked up that i know works. The brass pin connections are just too tricky. I saw somewhere on here at one time where someone had retrofitted a marine radio into the same location as the original.... but I can't find the post again.. I know lots of people just use MP3's and i pods. those are great, but I still like the plain old radio for around town. Any thoughts ideas or knowledge on how to put a marine radio in that location. thanks Clay
  18. just a reminder! the benefit bar-b-que, for rattlesnake, is this coming Saturday. it will be held at the Refugio V.F.W. grounds, in Refugio, Texas. if you can make it, - - -wonderful! if you can't, - - -you lose out on a really good feed, and meeting lots of new people. just jt
  19. Moped

    Big Rear

A lot of tire talk lately but have not heard anything about rear tires. I was wondering if anyone has put a 170/80/15 or 180/70/15 on. I'm interested but the clearance is so close to driveshaft on stock size I wonder how they will fit? I have read a number of people have installed the 170's and more interesting Metzler shows the stage 1 upgrade for the RSV to the 180's. My main interest to change is to get whitewalls other then Dunlop 404's. They claim better mileage, smoother ride and handling.
  20. Man I thought I was bad....:rotf:I just checked the stat on the front page and there's 62 people in the waterin hole! Of course ..at this hour the question is: Are you up early or like me are you still at it from friday?
  21. rotordriver

    map

How do you folks install the maps with the places you traveled to on this site? Also thanks to everyone for the help on various repairs. Your all a great bunch of people looking out for each other.
  22. What a wonderful resource I have found here in both knowledge and kind like minded people. I just hit the donation page with a meger donation to say thanks for such an obvioulsy well run site! I have only been around a week since getting the Venture but thanks to this site, I will now make some upgrade decisions with confidence and feel I already have a good understanding of my new bike. Everyone here has been so real, kind and gracious. A rare find on ineternet fourms. The only other one that comes close is the Canon Photography On The Net forum, another hang out from another passion of mine. Anyway just wanted to extend my thanks to the administrators and moderators of VentureRider, you guys obviously have this well figured out on running an outstanding site. God bless and ride safe!
  23. I took Peg to the doctor last Wednesday due to a pinched nerve in her back, there were so many people there sneezing & hacking so much I tried to keep Peg from catching something instead I catch walking Pneumonia over the deal:sick: so I'm out until next week sure do miss riding the bike and hate being stuck in the house too, never thought I would get tired of watching TV. O well just wanted to say be careful everybody due to the fact that so many people are coming down sick this year. And the Medicine I'm taking is some strong stuff too. After 15-20min I'm ready to float away. buddy
  24. First day at Bike Week. Was supprised that there were not so many people there. You could walk the sidewalks with out bumping into people. Going back on Sunday might be different. Maybe it was to cold! Venders were still putting out their things. Even the Speedway was easy to get into and out of. Saw only one other Venture and that was at the Speedway. It was a 2nd gen blue in color. Parked at a church 1st street south of Main st. near A1A. Cost was $4 for bikes and $6 for trikes. I have used this lot for the last three years, both for Bike Week and Biketoberfest. I just don't like to park on the stree and have someone mess with my bike. Good luck to all those who are going to "Bike Week" and ride safe. Ken:080402gudl_prv:
  25. Finally found a trunk for the ride!! That's the good news! Bad news is that I still need the key/lock mechanism, and the backrest for the Mrs to lean on! I call upon the hordes of Venture owners to scrounge through their piles of extra parts to help a fella out!! The 85 trunk is the large one, I believe it was the first year the big trunks were introduced. If any of you fine people can help me out, just PM me. I'm not looking for donations, I'll gladly pay for parts, and reimburse shipping. Thanks to all the great people on this site. You have helped me with my bike in many ways!!
