  1. Well, the Missouri River is doing it's best to leave the riverbed and wander where it wants in Omaha and surrounding areas. They are closing parts of I-29 North of Council Bluffs, IA as the water is up to the shoulder. It's making things interesting for sure. A few shots of the river around the downtown area.
  2. Is anyone riding up to Freebirds MD and going through or by Olive Hill or Grayson,Ky around 4:30 pm this Friday evening ? I will be going that way and my riding buddy JD had to cancel out on me due to his work schedule. So if anyone needs a riding pardoner then I will be ready at 4:30 pm kick stand up. I have traveled this route many times and usually just go to Grayson and take the AA HWY to cross bridge into Ohio and 104 to 386 over to 23 north and 270 west bypass to 71 north to Mansfield. I will stay with friends there and then on to Oberlin the next morning early. So if you need a riding friend to at least Mansfield ? PS: I was up that way just last Thursday, and want to let everyone know to please be aware of the roads up that way. Especially I-71 north, they are rough and down right dangerous for a motorcycle in a few places. Please take your time and I would not ride this route after dark. Fuzzy
  3. Maybe I'll see another VR rider in the area. Not much luck running into another VR rider in this area that is a member, but I post anyway. A few of us will be riding from Albuquerque NM to the Vietnam Memorial in Angel Fire NM the Saturday. From there plans are to ride to Red River for the MC Rally. Mid afternoon we will split up and a few will return to Albuquerque and a few will continue to ride. We will ride North into Colorada and west over Wolf Creek Pass to spend the night in Durango. Sunday will be spent riding the loop to Silverton, Ridgway, Telluride, and back to Durango. We will be attending the Bar D Wrangler BBQ just north of Durango for Dinner and then DQ for ice cream. Monday will be the ride Back to Albuquerque by way of Pagosa Springs CO, Chama NM, Tres Predas and Taos. Hope to see someone in the VR family if your in the area. Shamue

  5. As some of you know, I bought a new HD Road Glide in feb. Its ship date from the factory is April 29th. I have checked in on it a few times. Today I get a call from the dealer telling me to come get it. Boy was that a surprise, I just talked to the parts guy yesterday about an add on that I wanted. He didnt say that my bike was there. I suppose he thought I already knew it. So hopefully on saturday I can make the trip to get it. Party sunny with low 50's for temps and north winds at 10 to 15 sounds ok to me. Hopefully I can get things all lined up to get it then. Next week is more rain, like today and tomorrow. So I guess I should get a little more aggressive on getting rid of my Tour Deluxe. Maybe deep down I still kinda like the thing......
  6. A little bird has informed me that the North Alabama Road Riders have had their first fund raiser for St. Jude and they feel they have this thing in the bag. The bird didn't tell me how much they raised but I know it was a multi-family yard sale, and I know those things can pull in some dough. We are doing ours by our St. Jude Auctions and money raised by other members and the main contribution comes from Vogel. So lets not let them beat us at our own game. They are a small group of around 35-40 members , and they are all concentrated together in Al. That makes it easy for them to do things together. So anything you members can do to help beat this ragtag little group of wing riders, bring it on.
  7. Well sort of, Royal Stars anyway. Hadn't seen any till day 3 (cus DynoDon brought his wing to the Central IL M&E Tuesday) Anyhow, saw a black TD going North on the 59 bypass near Poteau, OK (I think that's where I was). And, there's a red and black TD for sale just North of Longview, TX along US259. Later, Scooter Bob
  8. A Red Royal Star Venture sighted on I-75 heading North, Just the rider, wearing Red, Heading for Alligator Alley I-75 North. anyone from here? Saw the rider at 8:30 am, Looked like Rhode Island or SC plates
  9. Arrived here Tues eve for routine 2 week trip. So I thought.... Typical quake on Wed and another smaller one on Thursday. I come here often and seldom experience a quake, never mind 2 during my stays. Friday was something else. I was working in a data center when the shaking started. Holy mother of Jesus!!!!!! I'm 200 miles from the epicenter, I can only imagine what it must have been in Sendai. Long story short Tokyo is pretty much back to normal once the train service restarted on Saturday but the northern part of the country is a shambles with horrific loss of life. I'm glued to CNN, Internet and local channels trying to figure out if the nukes melting down 170 miles north are going to be a factor. I think not, this far south, but what a horrific fate for those folks up north to have survived a quake and killer wave to now have to deal with that. What ever happens in my life from now I know I'm blessed to have to been spared that. Please give your prayers for the lives lost and more prayers for the poor souls in Northern Japan trying to get through all that is going on here.
  10. Hi folks.. hoping someone out there who has intimate knowledge of this can help me out.. My buddy and I are always looking for excuse to ride the slab and this year we decided that if the timings worked out great we would make a run down the I95 from Houlton Maine all the way down to Florida to catch one of the Shuttle or rocket launches from the 'where ever it is called that they launch stuff into space from".. the name of the place escapes me right now.. too cold, too much snow.. However, we're the type that hates getting lost in a huge thick throngs of a crowd and were wondering if there is a location we could aim for to the north of where the launches are that you could still see the rocket's red glare, sounds and maybe some of the vibrations.. We're thinking that because everyone and their dogs are going to be crowding the general area with the same idea of taking in a launch, we would lodge a few hours to the north, ride south, see the event, and mosey on back to the north where we lodged for the evening.. If you've been to see a launch, and know of a location north of the launch pad, that would allow a couple of Canucks to ride in, view the launch and escape from the thick crowds, please do drop me a line.. Failing that, if you know of a better idea, let me know.. How's THAT for an excuse for the first BIG ride of the season =)
  11. I'm not saying, I'm just saying.... Terry, Blackjack has busted his arze to keep us together for the past three years... and somebody needs to step up to the plate and and pick up the ball and run with it.... so I'm guess I'll try,,,,,, Here in Atlanta the riding conditions have sucked for the past few weeks even though I have been riding on a daily basis to get to work and back. But, this weekend on Saturday it looks like we might have a fairly decent riding day and the Great American Motorcycle show will be in town. All I'm saying is that this might be a good day and opportunity to get together in a spirit of mutual friendship, comraderie and fellowship to get together for the purpose of a ride opportunity, Viewing the show, a meal together and talking about how we will keep the North Georgia monthly meet and eat together. I'm willing to provide an after show meeting place at the Atlanta chapter of the Fraternal Order of Eagles, Aerie 714 near Spaggetti Junction for food, adult libations and entertainment to discuss the future of the North Georgia Venture riders participation in monthly meet and eats. ALL WITHIN THE SOUND OF MY VOICE ARE WELCOME. What I'm suggesting is maybe picking a meeting spot for breakfast, going to the show and getting together afterwards for a group social activity to discuss how we might honor Blackjacks efforts by keeping the North Georgia Monthly meet and eats alive. Speaking for myself, I know that many of the memories and valued friendships that I have realized on this forum have been a direct result of the Terry's selfless commitment to trying to bring us together and I for one would hate to see that end. Please E-mail, PM, post or call me directly with interest in making this happen. Love you guys, Bob, The Atlanta Dragonslayer
  12. A flock of at least 30 robins in the yard, maybe up to 50 or so. Seems strange to see that many together at once, this far north (Indianapolis), at this time of year. Usually only see them in pairs and/or when nesting in the spring/summer.
  13. I just got off the phone with a friend living in North Dakota near the Canadian border. He said that since early this morning the snow has been nearly waist high and is still falling. The temperature is dropping way below zero and the north wind is increasing to near gale force. His wife has done nothing but look through the kitchen window and just stare. He says that if it gets much worse, he may have to let her in. Yuk Yuk!
  14. After a fantastic and wonderful 3-year run, the time has come for me to step down as Host of the North GA Monthly M&E. I had a simple idea when I started this, which was to create an opportunity for those of us in this, and neighboring areas, to be able to get-together on a more regular basis. That was an idea that proved fruitful, and now, after thirty-something get-togethers (we did miss a month here and there), I am thankful and appreciative for all of the extraordinary support. Thanks, too, to those who Co-Hosted events during this time! I'm not going away and there's nothing wrong! I am, thankfully, incredibly busy providing useful/helpful mortgage information to Clients all across the country. In addition, I am in the midst of starting up a new financial-assistance business to help people accelerate the payoff of their credit obligations (including long-term mortgages!), legally and ethically. It is my hope that this change in circumstance will provide an opportunity for others to pick up the ball and run with it; that is to say, I hereby challenge you (that would include anyone and everyone reading this) to schedule and host a M&E of your own! Again, my very special Thanks! to each and every one of you that attended a North GA Monthly M&E or one of the several "Joint Ventures". It really is an honor and a privilege to be a part of this great Forum Family. Terry/Blackjack/Habib
  15. I travel to work day in and day on my 05RSTD! I'm only grounded during ice on the road otherwise rain, snow, or heat doesn't matter I'm riding. Like my old Sergeant use to say "There is no such thing as a rusty Ranger!" Just curious on who also rides all year and how far north do you live? The Maine picture was where I lived as a kid in Loring AFB, Maine. Actually did not ride then.

  17. I am bidding on a pair of mirrors but they will only ship to the USA. Would someone in the family please allow me to use your address and then re-ship it to me here in the frozen north? I will be happy to pay for the mailing as well as some thing for your time and trouble.

  20. We had a great time today at Blackjack's North GA Monthly M&E! The weather was perfect! We met Sling and Peggy for breakfast in Augusta and then rode to the museum. Blackjack brought in his group and then we toured the museum! Really neat cars! Even a couple of scoots there! A trip to DQ was in order afterwards and then Sling and Peggy and Sleeperhawk and I went home via country roads. What a ride and even saw another Venture! Here is the link to the pictures! http://s7.photobucket.com/albums/y262/venturerider/Sleeperhawks%20Mechanic/2010/Sleeperhawks%20Mechanic%20Microcar%2020101009/ Thank you, Blackjack (and all of you), for putting this together!
  21. I caught a glimpse of a Venture (2nd gen)passing through Mc Rae, GA this afternoon as I was heading home from work traveling north on US441. Was it someone on here??? They were riding 2-up.
  22. Well, since I will not make it to Nelson, BC like I wanted to I figured I can still enjoy my ride to work... Both there and back. I will be departing Lubbock, Texas the morning of 4/July. Heading up to Rawlins, WY for the night. The following morning I'll depart Rawlins, head north following Highway 287 through Yellowstone all the way up to Whitehall, MT, where I will likely stop for the night. Then take the slab up to Spokane, Washington where I will have to decide whether to slab it all the way to Seattle or take US-2, 97, and Highway 20 to intersect with I-5 just north of Seattle. There will probably be an overnight stop sometime in there depending on which way I decide to go. Then the last day will land me at the Lab I will be working at in Vancouver, BC. This route seems better than slabbing it the whole way up there but for you folks that live in the Yellowstone area, I am DEFINITELY up for suggestions. I am looking to see quite a bit on the way but still make reasonable time. Same goes for folks in Washington, I am certainly up for route advice, and would appreciate any and all input. Route advice, the essential things to see and take dorky pictures of myself and bike along the way are all appreciated and welcomed. Thanks in advance! By the way, I plan on posting pictures along the way and some updates to this thread - just in case anyone is interested.
  23. I thought the guys in far north might like to extend there riding season alittle.
  24. Our trip continued today with a ride from Estes Park to Hill City SD. We took 34 down to Greeley and then picked up US85 north through Cheyenne and Lusk WY. We stopped in Lusk for lunch. I must say that the area of north of Cheyenne is very sparce of people and signs of life. You might ride for 20 miles and not have a curve to deal with. Things got more interesting as we approached Custer SD. We didin't take many photos today but I've loaded some of what Valerie did shoot to the web at www.traynorphoto.com/day11 Real unique naming strategy I have going isn't it? SPOT track: http://spotwalla.com/tripViewer.php?id=6473 Tomorrow we're just going to tour around the Black Hills for the day. We may ride through Spearfish Canyon and stop by Sturgis to see if anything is going on yet. We turn east and head for home on Friday. Dennis
  25. While making a 10 hour road trip in the pickup, I saw: Red and Black RSV pulling a trailer north on I-65 just south of Louisville about noonish. Thirty minutes later I saw a group of 4 RSV (maybe a few other bikes in there) northbound on I-65 near Elizabethtown, KY. Then near Bowling Green, KY, saw a Midnight Venture parked under an overpass on north I-65around 2pm-ish. Saw a few mor on I-24 near Chattanooga also. Wish I had been on mine, but it was not an option. Hope all made it safely to their destinations.
