  1. OK, took first ride today with the new jacket. 48 deg. when left, 51deg on return home. 2 hour ride. Jacket, with T-shirt, and one fairly heavy cotton shirt on under the jacket. Verdict is-- Stayed perfectly comfortable, not cold, not hot. I will estimate that if I replaced the cotton shirt, with a Wool shirt, the Jacket will be good down to about 40 deg. F. Below that, I would need the electric vest. So, I'm very happy with this jacket. Fit is a little tight, but thats what I like, I hate loose fitting clothing. The Armor installed in Elbows, shoulders, and back, Seems bulky when putting the jacket on, however once under way ( a little navy talk there ) I don't even notice it. Arm movement seems good. My chest measurement is 44 inches, I got the Medium size.(( 44 )) ( this per suggestion on the " NewEnough " website, where I ordered it from ) They stated that these jackets run a little on the large side. I would have to say this is the most comfortable I have been at 50 deg. with just one jacket on, over an average wgt cotton shirt. Also, the new Hot Grips, with 40 gram thinsulate gloves worked just fine at 50 deg. I tried them last week, same gloves at 33 deg. F. and I would say my hands were getting cold. However I'm not in habit of rideing in that cold temps, so won't worry about it. If your in a motorcycle supper store, and they have them, try one on.
  2. I've been a member here for a few years and have met a lot of folks at Don's Maintenance Day and on Meet-N-Eats and the Asheville Rally, but unfortunately my "site time" is sporadic and I mostly lurk (I am not nearly as clever and humorous in my limited contributions as many others are). I ride year round (to work) unless there is snow/ice on the road. My hands were always the part of me I couldn't keep comfortably warm. I tried heated grips but the tops of my hands and fingers still got cold. I was going to buy heated gloves, but was not attracted to the thought of every morning and every evening having to pull the connecting wires down through the sleeves to plug the gloves in and containing the spaghetti wiring harness inside my jacket like loose intestines. I read as many other posts as I could find (on site and off) regarding making your own heated clothing. I did a lot of thinking and planning and procrastinating and built up the courage to buy parts and put holes in a perfectly good riding jacket. I documented the experience with the intent of putting it on the site so that anyone else (cheap like me) feeling adventurous and possessing opposable thumbs with an aptitude to follow instructions might want to follow suit. Essentially for the cost of heated gloves and about $50 in electrical parts I built the spaghetti wires permanently inside my armor jacket and put radiator-like heat in the jacket liner. The attached instructions are a kind of long, but include pictures and hopefully enough detail that someone could tailor the procedure to their particular jacket, gloves, and requirements without a great deal of re-inventing the wheel. 3. I have a new jacket that I would like to post on the classifieds, but I am not sure how to do it. Can someone please tell me what I need to do? Thanks hairman

  5. I just received, a couple days ago my purchase from New Enough. I bought the Venture Air Mesh pants and Intake Air Series 2 Jacket. I am very pleased with New Enough's prices and shipping. Ordered it on Friday morning, got it on Tuesday. Also very pleased with my selection. Both jacket and pants have windproof/waterproof layer and a quilted insulated liner, as well as multiple sections of Armor and padding. The liners can be utilized together or seperately in any configuration or they can we worn without any liners. Its really working well for me as I can wear the liners when I leave at 3:30am for work, 55 degrees and then ride home with just the mesh when its reached 80+. If I had any complaint I guess it would be that the items do not store very compactly. I have to take the jacket in because it won't compress down small enough to fit in the bags or trunk along with the other things I carry. This wasn't a problem with my leathers. It seems to be the Armor that is causing the issue. So here is my question: Does the Armor really add significant protection or could you take it out? Thanks for the info/opinions in advance. Jay
  6. Hello, Everyone need help finding my wife an Jacket with amor in it. She is 5'1" tall. Looking for 3xl. Need help. Have been looking for 3 days on the net and no luck.
  7. If anyone is interested I just placed a like new Men's First Gear Kilimanjaro jacket on EBAY. Size 3XL. It is a great jacket and has been used very little. It no longer fits. The item number is: 120336436767 Thanks, Dennis
  8. getting ready to leave for work, 32 degrees out there .weather man says feels like 20. low when i come home is supposed to be 17 and windy. i will let you all know how well my gerbings electric jacket works. so far it has been toasty warm in the 32 degree weather.
  9. Last week I went to put on my winter jacket and found that I had expanded my wastline and could not zipup my jacket. So I wanted a new Tour Master trans.2. ;As I called around nobody had one. I called competition accessories and they were out too. But the sales said he had other jackets and the price was negotiable. Well he offered me a Fieldsheer Quattro in high Vis yellow for the same price as the Tour master, $152. I think I got a good deal. Also bought Calela's gore-tex Pinnacle glove for $50,in reviews a guy said he wore then in -25 degrees and his hands were warm. Glove is used in Alaska in dog sleigh racing. Hope they are as warm as they say. tew47
  10. Does anyone have experience with the Tourmaster Synergy line of heated clothing? I have a Warm-n-Safe jacket liner and I am not totaly happy with it. I am seriously considering a Synergy jacket liner and gloves and I would like to hear from someone with first-hand experience. Once it gets into the low 30's my Warm-n-Safe jacket must be cranked up 100% and it puts a real load on the electrical system. I've read reviews that indicate the Synergy works fine on low or medium settings. Thanks, Dennis
  11. For months now in various cycle magazines Honda has adds of this guy on a bike in a leather jacket. In the latest Rider it's on the inside cover. You can only see the back of the jacket. Elbow patches, expansion accordion gussets wide kidney belt etc... At first, I liked it and tried to find it, no success..... Then I REALY liked it! Searched all the catalogs, called the local Honda stealer (What an a**hole!) Nothing!!! Come on guys !! Help me here!!! This thing has gone from like to lust!!! I have got to find out who makes this thing!!!! :crying:
  12. As the temps dip down into the 30's at night here in the Carolinas, I was wondering what is the coldest temp that you've ridden in? With my normal gear on, which is basically a leather jacket and leather gloves, I decide that yesterdays 40 degrees was a bit too cold - but I was pretty good this morning at 46 degrees.
  13. I just saw a Venture Royale with New Mexico plates going through downtown Washington Court House, Ohio. The driver was wearing a New Mexico Riders Jacket. If you are a member I just wanted to say Hi and welcome to Ohio. Nice looking Royale.
  14. I recently returned from a weekend trip up north, about 450 km each way. On my way out of town on Thurs, I saw the forcast was calling for rain on Sat, the day I was returning. So I stopped at my dealer, and purchased a Nelson Rigg Stormrider rain suit. http://www.nelsonrigg.com/pages/Rainwear-apparel/SR-6000-2-Big.htm I know I could have gotten it cheaper on eBay, but that would have meant good planning, and that was not going to happen. Anyways, the weatherman was correct and it was pouring rain for the last 250 KM of my trip home. There are 2 reviews here, and both are positive. First, the Nelson Rigg Stormrider rain pants. They are very easy to get into, even with my boots on. They have a boot strap, to keep the pant legs firmly down against your foot. There is long zipper vertically along the bottom of the pant, that you can zip closed after you get your feet out the bottom. There is an elastic around the waist, that gives you lots of room to slide your hand inside the rain pant, to get into your regular pants pockets, how do I know this? Well, I forgot the key for the bike in my pocket, and then put the rain pants on at the gas station. There is also lots of reflective striping around the legs to make you very visible. After riding 250 KM in a downpour, my jeans were completely dry. All in all, they functioned as well as I could have hoped, and a reasonable price. So, why am I only reviewing the Nelson Rigg Stormrider pants? Well, I did not use the jacket, although I did try it on for size, and it fits perfectly over my riding jacket. The reason I did not use the Nelson Rigg jacket, is I wanted to test my new Tourmaster Flex jackets waterproofing. http://www.tourmaster.com/xcart/product.php?productid=248&cat=3 And I was not disappointed. Some of you may remember I recently sold my Joe Rocket jacket to Squidley, and I bought a new Tourmast Flex jacket system. The Flex has a main mesh jacket, that holds the 5 piece CE armor system, givng you shoulder, elbow and back dual density armour plates for impact, and slide protection. When worm alone, it is a perfect hot weather jacket, with FULL ventilation, that feels like riding in a T-shirt alone, similar to the Joe Rocket Phoenix jacket, while affording you excellet protection from abrasion, and the elements. There is a full outer shell that is 100% waterproof, that ZIPS to the outside, along the neck, sides and cuffs. There are ventilation zippers in the chest to allow for air flow. These zippers are waterproof when they are closed, using a rubber flap system to seal the zippers, along with velcro to keep the zipper covers closed. This system works perfectly, and the shell is really waterproof, keeping me almost completely dry. The only moisture I got in my jacket at all, came in via the hand holes at the cuff. I am sure if I had tightened the cuff flaps, that would have been solved. I was dry top to bottom. The Flex jacket is listed as "water resistant" and I am really not sure what the difference is between that and "water proof" but at highway speeds for almost 3 hours in the rain, no significant water got to me in my jacket, so that will be good enough for me. I doubt I will ever even use the Nelson Rigg jacket, as it seems like it would be overkill. There is also a full sleeved inner thermal liner, to keep you warm come the fall and cold weather riding days. All 3 units together, will certainly keep you warm and dry. I just wanted to review some new apparel that I got this year, and let you know what I found. Hope it helps. Sonny
  15. After riding in the snow in Montana in June, I noticed my Gerbing jacket had a split seam under one arm. I knew others had the same issue and Gerbing fixed the problem so I wasn't worried. Should have been. Though the jacket had relatively few hours of use, it was out of warranty and they refused to fix the problem. Please understand. If I had mistreated the jacket, I would feel differently. My observation led me to believe that the seam around the arms on the inside of the jacket is very poorly done. This is a quality control issue and Gerbing should take care of it. I had a seamstress friend take care of it. She also stitched the other arm to prevent it from coming apart as well. If you have a Gerbing jacket, check out those seams. The material has a tendancy to fray once the seams parts. If I had it to over again, I think I would be looking for something besides Gerbing. Lynn
  16. After a few days, we can laugh about some of the things that took place. After the crash, I got up off the road and removed my jacket and helmet, walked to the ambulance to be checked, and they cut my shirt off and my new jeans almost to the crotch! Would have cut my jacket too if I hadn't taken it off. After 5 hours in the ER I got to go see my wife. I expected to see her dressed (or undressed) just like me. WRONG! She was still in her jacket, shirt and jeans. She simply got feisty with them and told them they were NOT cutting up her outfit! Guess I should have thought of that. When we were finally released, she walked out looking fine. I walked out without a shirt and my pantlegs blowing in the breeze, and patches of hair pulled off my chest from the sticky things! Tomorrow I'll see about getting the bike back to the dealer for an estimate. Then I'm sure the fun will begin with the insurance people. Health-wise we are doing better. Mostly just sore. Thanks for the prayers-they really do work. Mark
  17. I have owned this Joe Rocket Meteor Jacket for almost 4 years now. It is a black on black jacket. Jacket is in great condition, never gone down. Jacket has a full sleeved thermal liner, which makes it very warm for fall or winter riding. With the liner removed, the jacket can be worn in the warmest of weather. 2 air vents in the sleeves provide much ventilation, keeping you cool, while protecting you from road rash and the elements. There is a very large exhaust vent on the back to assist in keeping yu cool and dry. Jacket has no rips, no tears. There are 2 issues with the item, the zippers on the sleeve vents are broken, I opened them 4 years ago, never had reason to close them, and they oxidized. So the vents are always open, there is velcro around them, so if you wanted to shut them, you have to just close the velcro. All other zippers are fully working with no issues. Also, some areas of the jacket are a bit sun-faded, and look a bit brown. This is because I ride, and I ride alot. I have never been on the bike without my full gear. All in all a fantastic jacket, that may save your skin one day, literally. So why am I selling it? Well, I bought the jacket about 55 lbs ago, so my "loss" is really your gain. I will attach some pics of the jacket soon. I might list it on eBay, but before I did I wanted to see if any of the group here might be interested. The jacket new was $250. I will take the first $50 OBO. PM me if you are interested. Sonny
  18. Has anyone purchased from this vendor in Ohio? http://store.valueaccessories.net/index.asp Want to order from them, but want to know they have a good reputation before I do. I want to buy a new OSI mesh jacket for hot weather riding. Thanks...
  19. Thought I would pass this on. Rod -------- Original Message -------- Subject: Date: From: Paul Thompson Reply-To: To: http://rs6.net/on.jsp?t=1102181506928.0.1011190681102.45497&ts=S0346&o=http://ui.constantcontact.com/images/p1x1.gif http://www.newenough.com/neml_images/page_images/new_neml_logo.gif http://www.newenough.com/image/path/15212/small/Default.jpg?1208877284 Ladies PowerTrip San Jose Mesh Jackets Now $25 We bought a huge group of these full mesh jackets last fall. I knew when I bought them they'd be hanging around all winter. But now summer is almost over and I HAVE TO get rid of the rest of these jackets this summer. At this price I'm loosing about $5 per jacket. Abuse me! Take'em all! About the jacket: The San Jose jacket is primarily designed for hot weather riding. The entire shell of the jacket is a "free air" mesh design which allows wind to blow right through. To enhance the crash worthiness of this jacket, it comes complete with removable armor in the shoulders, elbows and back. To add to the useful temperature range of this jacket, it comes with a removable vest-type thermal liner too. These liners can be useful on day rides where it is cooler in the morning, but warms up in the afternoon. There are only about 400 of these jackets left in our warehouse and I expect we'll sell them all pretty quickly, so use the drop down menu on the product page to view the sizes and colors remaining in inventory. MSRP $124.99, Now $25 As always, thanks for your patronage... http://www.newenough.com/neml_images/page_images/paul_sig.gif Paul Thompson, President New Enough, LTD email: daniel@newenough.com phone: 888-530-7351 web: http://www.newenough.com Forward this to a friend! http://img.constantcontact.com/letters/images/safe_unsubscribe_logo.gif This email was sent to prhenderson@cox.net by daniel@newenough.com. 20. I have just recieved an order from Newenough.com today. It arrived exactly as described and very quickly, (most stuff coming to Canada seems to take quite a while to arrive from most suppliers, probably our customs agents doing their (ahem!) job). I was surprised to see that they have a section for us hard to fit riders, and, as each product fits differently, they attempt to give you a chart with actual measurements so you tell what size will actually work for you depending on product line. I have to tell you if they wouldnt have had the chart I would have ordered a size or 2 smaller on the Joe Rocket mesh jacket I ordered. It fits well and I am very happy with it and the very good price they had on it. I thought that 85 bucks for the joe rocket jordan jacket with liner and padding in my size was an excellent deal as most places for something comperable were close to double. So thanks NewEnough for a job well done. Brian:cool10:
  21. I got my leather jacket hung up in my left sidecase the other day, the jacket got betwwen the latch and the catch. I like to never got it open, and when I did, the bag now doesn't apear to be shut all the way on the rear unless you push down with your hand on the back half. I also got a little water inside the other day when I got caught out in the rain. I have looked for some type of adjustment on this, as I am sure there is one, but nothing jumps out at me. Any ideas on this?
  22. Am looking to purchase some sort of textile riding jacket that has lots of vents for air flow and matching textile pants. Any suggested retailers? many do not seem to offer pants in the...shall we say...more "robust" sizes!
  23. I feel the need to provide a shout out for New Enough. They have been the best internet vendor I have ever used - for any product. On Tuesday morning, I ordered a First Gear Killimanjaro jacket - on sale. Got home from work yesterday (Wed.) and there was a box on my back steps. Yup, sure enough - 1 DAY TURNAROUND! And the shipping was included with the purchase. And they contributed a dollar to our website. The jacket is mahhvulus loooking dahhlink. RR
  24. I am looking at upgrading my current leather jacket with one that is cooler in hot weather. I have looked at a few but the one I like the best is one from buell. It has a liner that zips out and and the front opens up to let air flow through it. Does anyone have a jacket that they like that sounds like the one from buell. If so what kind is it and what style.
  25. :mo money:I am looking at buying a hot weather jacket. So far I am looking at the Joe Rocket Phoenix 4.0 Mesh Jacket and the Tourmaster Draft-Air Mesh Jacket. The Motorcycle Super store has a great price on these. Anyone have any experience with these jackets and this store?
