    I have a guy that will mount the tires for $20 each. He does good work. Still would rather get the tires locally, but $160 from Amazon is hard to turn down.     2006, so yes, 2d gen. The bike has 8k miles. I took it in at 7k and had the 4k service done because I wasn't sure it was ever done (bought it at 6k). Had them go over the bike and check: steering column bearings rear shock bushings. loose swingarm bearings specifically. Mechanic said the front tire was overinflated, but other than that, the bike was solid. Rode to Tulsa and the bike still wobbled somewhere between 70 and 85. Note that I could keep the bike straight. But if I "shook" the bike, it REALLY started to wobble. On my Liner, if I "shook" the bike, it would right itself. It was not normal.

    I started at 44 and dropped by 2 lbs increments to 34. Guess it wouldn't hurt to drop it down in the 20s. My old bike had the same tire. I remember the lower the pressure, the better the tire felt. It did not have the wobble...but it couldn't go as fast either.

    I can get Avon Venoms for about $160 front and back on amazon. Wondering if there is a brick and mortar store that will match these prices? I'm in Dallas.

    My girlfriend did not care for the ultimate pillion on my Liner. She preferred the original. So, you might want her to try before you buy.

    It's a 2006. But only has 8k miles on it. No warranty. I was encouraged by the post I found. Seemed like someone had finally found a fix. Seems if this is a constant problem on the Royal Star that Yamaha would look into it. Tight gears or not, I don't think the whine I have is in the normal/acceptable range.... Still love the bike and know that earbuds will fix it. But IMHO earbuds should not be a requirement.....

    Rode from Dallas to Tulsa and back over the weekend. Had the bike checked by a mechanic before I left. Did the 4k check which I don't think was ever done. Checked the front tire. Found it to be overinflated, so got it down to normal. I believe this is the original front tire. Adjusted the rear tire pressure down by 2 lbs increments Wobble never went away. REALLY wanted this to work out. I'm wondering if my front tire is out of balance, or might be the cause. But this is my girlfriends bike and I think she's lost all confidence in the tire. Probably just going to call it a lesson learned and put some new Venom's on the front and back. Resell the slightly used Kumho.

    Has there been a certified "fix" for the Royal Star Whine? I understand some have worse than others. Later models seem to have it better. Synthetic oil helps. But has there been a source identified (clutch basket is thought to be the cause) and a fix? Saw this in an earlier thread: After 3 trips to my local dealership to see about an I-basket swap, the dealership felt it was a final drive (rear end) issue and not a clutch issue. Two trips and a call to Yamaha yielded that there was a "message" out about improperly installed spacers in the final drive housing. Mine was found to have this issue. The tech pulled mine apart, found the grommets that hold the spacers were not seated correctly, liberally lubed everything and put it all back together. I have only been riding it for about 150 miles since the "fix", but so far all the whine and chirp is gone. Wondering if there was something to this.... Needless to say, my 2006 has the whine bad. Pretty much whines in all gears if there is a load of any kind on the motor. Love the bike EXCEPT for this. It's something I don't want to live with...might have to get a different bike if I can't come up with a solution.

    Any solutions to this problem yet? Bought ready to sell my 06. Love it. But just rode it from Dallas to Tulsa and back. Whine is annoying!

    Just rode the RSTD 540 miles this weekend. My butt is killing me. What seats are you guys comfortable riding for long distances on? I have a 2006 RSTD (new to me).

    Was reading an old thread about the Kumho Wobble: http://venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=50114&highlight=kumho+wobble I recently put a Kumho on and have the wobble at 75mph. I'm going to adjust the air pressure before I try other things. Looks like air pressure, suspension part replacement, and tightening things up solved this for most folks. Any other solutions?

    Tried this weekend. Sidewall blew out. I may try it again, but would put a tube in it to reinforce the sidewall. Nice rounded shoulder and tread pattern. But cost $126 on line....

    Found a great source for kumho powerstar 758 165/80-15. Found a bunch in the Dallas area at Discount Tires. Still had a bunch in stock when I bought one on 4/14. May be another just so I have one next time.

    Attempted to install a VREDESTEIN T-TRAC TIRES SKU: VREDESTEIN T-TRAC TIRES-V1776 165/80R15 87 T that I purchased on at http://www.tiresbyweb.com for $126. It has a nice round shoulder to it along with a nice tread design. While installing the tire, the sidewall blew out somewhere between 80 and 100psi. After changing underwear, I found a Kumho powerstar 758 165/80-15 at a local Discount tire (they had a lot of them). It went on at 80 psi. We used a tube in the Kumho to reinforce the sidewall. I'm thinking this might be a good idea for any tire where there is difficulty inflating. I'm also using Dyna Beads to balance the tire, so putting dynabeads in a dry tube as opposed to an over lubed tire has merit. I am considering doing this with all of my car tire intallations. In looking at the inflation, it appeared that the tube helped to push the tire inflation "out" rather than "up". I might try the VREDESTEIN again with Tube. But now that I know where to get Kumhos, I am leaning toward sticking to these. I've used them on my VT1100 before with success. It's a good reliable car tire for bikes that need a 165. The ride and handling is very similar to the motorcycle tire. In fact, if you stand up the Kumho next to the MC tire that just came off, you will notice a similar shape....ie flat top.

There is a picture on the star motorcycle link. I've been assuming that if I bought the lights and bar, it was all I needed to make things look like the picture.     I have the "S" (shiny) model and my LEDs really light up the engine! I'll take a picture of those one of these days in post. Blue bike with Blue LEDs. I like them cuz they look cool. But, really, they are for safety. They REALLY light me up from the side and back (and front actually) at night. I highly recommend LEDs for this reason. My Royal Star has lights on the dual exhaust that make it extra visible from the rear.

    Thanks Dave, I AM concerned about my rear end too. I put LED lights under the bags that shine down on the pipes. It lights up the pipes AND the ground around. It made the back end a LOT more noticeable. I'll see if I can take a picture of it sometime. Thanks for the tips on the lights.     http://www.venturerider.org/forum/album.php?albumid=1022&pictureid=6403 I dont' have the front shot that I was looking at the other day. But I think a more modern headlight up front would make the RSTD look nice. Plus it needs more light at night.
