I have basically asked the same question a week ago without any real affirmation of a reason why. I used them on two VTX's I have owned and the best thing I can say is you never have to buy a filter again and the reports of being able to run them 20-50k without cleaning and recharging them, of course that is on the pavement only driving. Again on the VTX the intake seemed more throaty. On price I have been watching them on ebay from $65-$99. I was looking for some real fuel mileage/performance testimonies

When I try to down load photos it won't let me because it says they are too large. Does this site have a feature that will allow me to down size them.

Actualy I have owned it just three weeks today it's a 07 with 20,125 miles. It still has 15 months of factory warranty and we love it.

Yes they are the stock exhaust tips.

What rear trunk did you use? It looks like it is setting on the luggage rack and is mounted to the backrest. Is this set up for your application or did you have to do some custom work? Here are photos of our 07 RSTD. -
Is it normal for the chrome to go south on these tips? When I was in the bike buying process I looked at two different bikes with less than 10k on them, one had bought spares already to replace the ones on his bike and the second bike had flaky chrome tips. I bought a bike with 20k and the tips looked great until I went to turn the tips the other day and realized the bottom side had flaky chrome. So as I asked is this normal or is there some way to protect them. I was thinking of taking them off and sanding the chrome off and painting them with heat resistant crinkle black paint. I have also found new on ebay for $69. Talk to me boys and girls.

I have used them on the two VTX's I have owned and beyond the ability to remove, clean and recharge them, I didn't find any real benefit. I didn't do any testing of fuel savings due to it's insignificance. So does anyone have any real reason to use them with the exception of never having to replace them? I have found them on ebay for $65, has anyone found them cheaper? BTW I posted this in the RSTD tech form because I have an 07 RSTD, I say this because I don't know if the Venture is different.

Thanks for the nice complements. It is funny when you buy something new and think you have digested everything about it, then a week later you are washing the bike and you realize that the rear brake light SS visor that you have on your wish list is already on your bike. I cant believe I didn't see it when I bought the bike. The biggest thing I'm enjoying is the windshield, it is a tinted ClearView two up w/top re curve and vent. It also came with the stock shield/plastic and I was sure I would be switching it back to the stock, but like I said I'm loving it. I just love the rear view!

We got the job done Friday afternoon in Ft Pierce FL, it is an 07, it had 20k on the clock with 15 months of factory warranty remaining. The attached photos are at the dealership, they made me a sweet deal with taking my VTX in trade. They were a Honda dealer and not Yamaha maybe it made some difference. I have a question and remember my bike is a RSTD not a Venture, how little air can I run in the rear and not hurt something? It had "0" in it and we liked the ride yet would some what bottom out on severe dips in the road, otherwise rode like a dream. Today I put 35psi in the rear and didn't care for the stiffness one up. So I'm thinking about running 5-10psi in it, any problem with that? Hey RSTDdog give me a call 239-560-6934. Here are the Photos at home.

RSTD Looking to buy one, that is a Yamaha Royal Star Tour Deluxe. I drove two over the weekend. The first was an 06 at a dealer with 30k. it had corrosion on it I think it has been ridden up north in the salt. When I drove it I found things like cruise and self canceling turn signals that didn't work. Although it ran OK when I returned with it the dealer asked what I thought about it and I replied "Road hard and put away wet". The second one was a black 06 bought new in 07 with 9k miles on it, WOW what a gorgeous bike I was ready to just put it in the trailer. But, we test rode it as you should and was disappointed with the obnoxious WINE and the slow speed steering was scary, it felt like the front tire was flat. The bike was difficult to turn then would turn like it was going to flop, so you had to push it hard then hold on as to not over steer. Now very frustrated we had to walk away from this bike as well. On our drive of 2-1/2 hours back home I realized I had hot feet ridding both bikes. I currently ride a VTX 1800 C with forward controls and my feet never get hot. Is the hot feet normal on this bike with the floorboards and the chin fairings? I ride in southern FL and most of the time it is 85 degrees plus so I'm wondering if anyone has installed vents in the faring or even cut holes in them to duct air back around the floorboards? Also any suggestions of what was wrong with the steering on that bike? We bought an 07 RSTD w/15 months of remaining warranty. I have added the wind wing air deflectors and hwy pegs which these photos do not show, the rest of the mods were on the bike at time of purchase. I also have bought a Shark stereo and have to get it installed this next week. BTW the deflectors fixed the hot feet issue along with the highway pegs.

I don't know what to do now I have been looking for a while for a non-Goldwing touring bike. Started looking at 1600 Kawasaki Nomads and really liked the features and the look of the bike. So this week I drive my VTX 1800 C over to the dealer and drive an 05 Nomad, what a pooch. Then after talking with owners and several dealers I'm convinced a RSTD/Venture is the bike for me. My problem is I have had problems even seeing one of the bikes to set on. I found a leftover 09 RSTD in Naples FL and drove down there this morning and sat on it. Now I know it is the bike for me, but when I look at many adds of bikes for sale they state they have had new clutches installed. This concerned me due to the bikes having less than 30k on them. Putting a new clutch in a VTX is almost unheard of, so I joined this site to find out about clutch issues. Guess what I come across, a thread about the whinning noise, and what I'm hearing is if the owners knew about the whine issue they wouldn't have bought the bike and now I'm I have now clew what to start looking at in a used touring bike. I now own a RSTD 07 and am enjoying it! BTW, I was required to were a helmet when test driving the bike and heard no whine what so ever but now I have it home and without a helmet I hear a wine at different RPM/Speed yet it isn't loud enough to cause me a lot of grief. I do plan to have it checked out before the warranty is gone which is Nov. of 2012. Any suggestions of when I should approach the Dealer with the clutch basket issue, now or later near the end of warranty?
